She was trying to keep herself awake, but it was so late, she just wanted to sleep. Maybe this was a dream? Suddenly, Spirit released a fire-filled snort, and Sandy jumped, her eyes now open enough that she could tell what was going on.
This ghost, she was familiar with. Duskull were native to her home region, but it didn't make encountering one any less scary. She quickly stood up, trying not be paralyzed in her fear. In order to do this, she casted her gaze to the floor, refusing to look into the creature's rotating eye. Spirit knew he had to do something about this thing, and now he was annoyed. He had known stopping was going to bring trouble, but Sandy had insisted.
"I can't let you have it..." Sandy muttered, finding her voice a little after she looked down. Though, the girl's posture would tell anyone that she was nervous, scared, and anxious. She was shaking, whether it was out of the fact that this Duskull just scared her that badly, or that she knew she was running out of time, she couldn't settle down.
"Spirit!" She called suddenly, looking up to meet the Ponyta's amber gaze. Spirit reared up and began charging towards the Duskull, fire burning and cackling around his body as his Flame Wheel formed. He hadn't lost yet, and he wasn't ready to lose to some half-pint Halloween decoration.

The Duskull picked up on Sandy's hesitance but the blonde human wasn't the reason it had been drawn to the girl. The weakly panting Chikorita was in deep pain and was practically drowning in sadness, such emotion made for a delectable feast in the eyes of a ghostly creature. Especially when it was a victimised creature of this wicked forest. Swirling around eerily on the spot with it's single, glowing red eye faltering from one skull hole to the other, it was soon taken aback as the saddled up Ponyta took a stomp forward. It's ragged cloak like body flailing as a rough wind suddenly spun in a cyclone like motion around it's ghastly body. This spirit was going to fight back for a chance to pay it's regards to the forest and drain the remaining life force from it's precious little guardian.
Bracing itself, the floating Duskull soon picked up on how aggravated Spirit was starting to become. The mere mention of his name had sent the fiery steed on a charging frenzy, his body flickering with teasing ashes before completely blazing alight with an inferno of flames. Too wrapped up in the erupting sight to move, the floating spirit hoped that the horse would set fire to the forest and burn the dreaded place to the ground but alas, it didn't happen. Crashing right into the hard skull of the ghostly Pokemon, it released a high pitched shriek of a wail as it's entire body began to burn with great intensity. Struggling to float back up properly, a trail of smoke rose off the Duskull's burnt body as it came up off the ground and back into view.
Slightly askew and looking ready to fall back to the ground, it appeared this one still had a bit of fight left in it. Raising both it's cloth like hands, the vicious spirit release numerous sound waves from it's dark palms which pulsated right into the face of Spirit. Although the attack didn't leave any damaging marks, behind the Ponyta's hazelnut eyes was a different story. These beams were messing with his mind, brain washing him in a sense. Becoming confused, he neighed out angrily, shaking and bucking his legs as if trying to get rid of these thoughts in his mind.

Spirit had full health, her Pokedex alerted her to that fact. But he was confused, and she could see that even without the Pokedex. She pulled out a Pokeball and summoned Muchy. The Quilava glanced around sleepily, but he barley had time to process things as Sandy set the sick Chikorita down just behind him. She knelt down and raised her index finger, focusing it in front of his face.
"Guard it." She mentioned, motioning to the shallowly breathing bundle. Munchy looked back, then spotted Spirit and the Duskull just ahead of them. Before he had a chance to respond to Sandy, she had already gotten up, approaching Spirit slowly. She made a quick motion to get to his side so she didn't startle him from behind.
"Come on boy, Relax a minute. You'll hurt yourself doing that." She said, trying to talk him down. But the wild look in the Ponyta's eyes told a story of pure confusion, and she knew he had no idea what he was supposed to be doing. He reared up and Sandy backed away quickly as his hooves hit the sand with a crisp clunk against the dirt. She put her arms out in front of her, trying to calm him. Finally, she managed to get up to the point where she could touch his side, giving it a gentle run across with her hands to try to get him to realize that at least it was her.
"Hey boy, you recognize me right?" she asked, combing through his fur as she watched a slight recognition spark in one of his amber eyes. She knew she had a rocky relationship with the fire horse, but this seemed to be more or less calming his wild state. He stopped thrashing, but the confusion dancing deep within is eyes told Sandy that he was still confused.
"Okay, focus alright, I need you to try an Ember for me okay boy? Just an Ember." Spirit's ears pricked forwards. He knew he didn't like following orders, but his head was pounding, and he couldn't remember half the moves he knew at that moment. So he listened to Sandy, and began his attack, Sandy stepping back just in case something happened and his attack backfired.

The Duskull floated shakily, its energy severely depleted by Spirit’s last attack. Who knew that physical attacks could even hit a ghost? But it had only been the flames that had really damaged it, not the actual blow itself. Another bout of flames, and the ghost would be history. The Duskull crept closer, its sole red eye glowing ominously as it gathered dark energy, wrapping it around itself. The shadows seemed to extend, swirling around beneath the ghost as it prepared to attack. It was determined to beat this fire horse, so that it could drain the delicious energy from that sickly creature. The Ponyta staggered, its eyes glazed over with clear confusion. The Duskull cackled and raised its hands, preparing to attack.
At that moment, something clicked in Spirit’s mind. Sandy’s gentle words finally reached him, and he centered his focus on the approaching Duskull. His eyes narrowed, and he focused his fire, the heat in his throat further dragging his mind from the clutches of confusion. The Duskull, unaware of the Ponyta’s change, surged forward, its eye flashing as the shadows swirled around its hands in a claw. The heat in Spirit’s throat was bordering on unbearable at this point, and he spat forth a flurry of tiny flames. The embers slammed into the Duskull, and the ghost let loose an ungodly screech. The ghost curled in on itself, fading away as the deep shadows wavered, then dispersed.
