Name: Magnus J. Roland
Gender: Male
Age: 16
Appearance: Magnus stands at a solid 5 feet 10 inches, every inch packed full to the gunnels with awesome. His all natural spiky blue hair reaches for the heavens, possibly because of Magnus' will to overcome any odds as a trainer, and possibly, because he never combs his hair. His eyes are naturally green, but since Magnus is actually nearsighted, he wears red colored contact lenses to reflect his inner manly passion. Physically speaking, Magnus is fairly muscular, built more for long term endurance rather than burst strength. His skin is tanned from long summers out in the sun, and he is always cleanshaven, no matter the circumstances. As for clothing, Magnus prefers to show off his figure by rarely wearing shirts, instead opting for loose khaki pants, gaudy belts, and sandals. He has a 'cape' that he made himself some years ago that also doubles as a rucksack in a pinch.
Personality: Magnus is a loose cannon cop with a chip on his shoulder who's willing to break all the rules to save his daughter from the mafia.
Well, except He's not a cop, he doesn't have a chip on his shoulder, he's not willing to break ANY rules to fight the mafia, and he certainly doesn't have a daughter. In fact, maybe that was a really bad analogy. Let's start over, shall we?
Magnus is a loose cannon. He's a pretty decent kid, but he has the tendency to go absolutely overboard at the least opportune times, sometime upping the ante to ridiculous levels. He himself would tell you that “It's WAYYYY cooler that way!” and while he might be right occasionally, most of the time, he's just creating problems for himself, and often others.
Magnus' temper is quick to flare, sometimes with disastrous results. His mother can't count how many fights her son has been in over the years, and Magnus simply gets into more of them every day. It really doesn't help that Magnus thinks he's the best that's ever lived, and doesn't hesitate to make that known to those around him.
Really though, he's only cocky and temperamental because his father left his family when he was a kid. He's simply compensating for some old emotional wounds that have yet to heal completely. As a saving grace, even though Magnus can blow up in your face, he is equally quick to forgive if he feels wrongs have been righted. He doesn't like holding grudges, and is sometimes almost impulsive about making friends.
All in all, Magnus is also a little deluded about how others view him. He would sum himself in a single word: “AWESOME”, while others might have a few choice others to say to his face, if they knew he wouldn't get offended.
History: Some legends are made, and some legends are born. The Jury is still out on Magnus J. Roland. His family moved to Goldenrod when he was maybe 3 or so years old, and he can't even remember where he lived before. His father was a mid level manager in the Silph Co., and his mother worked part time at a cafe in town to pass the time. The oldest of 3 children, Magnus was a tad on the ambitionless side, planning to perhaps follow in his father's footsteps in the Silph company. All of that sort of changed when his dad took off to who knows where with his secretary when Magnus was 10, leaving his mother alone to raise 3 children.
Even though Ms. Roland did a pretty outstanding job of raising her kids, she was constantly working to make ends meet for the family. Magnus was always sort of a needy kid, and not having his mother around most of the time was quite difficult for him. He became a bit calloused, and set himself apart from the other kids by seeking to be better than them. First, it was sports, and while Magnus was a fairly talented athlete, Eventually, his peers eclipsed him. Magnus then turned to fighting to set himself apart, and quickly built up a bad reputation in his area. His mother eventually had to do something with him, so she sent him off to a relative in Kanto. That's where Magnus first learned to appreciate pokemon. He slowly learned that these creatures were stalwart companions and friends, the kind that would never leave him in the lurch if he cared for them enough. After spending a good year in Kanto and building his current persona, Magnus returned to his hometown of Goldenrod, and began preparations to begin the pokemon league challenge.
