The summer sun was unable to penetrate the dark clouds that covered the sky. Instead, hail rained down upon the ground like tiny crystals. It was beautiful but quite irritating when an ice rock landed on your head. Rane Lyre was exiting the city, having gotten her first Pokemon and some supplies. Her black jacket managed to act as a slight cover for her and her hood was draped over her dark hair. She didn't mind the cold at all, for she was used to this kind of weather in Blackthorn City, where her home was up in the mountains. Her Charmander insisted on walking beside her instead of taking shelter int he Pokeball. As much as she apprenticated his companionship, she felt he was having a miserable time walking in the hailing weather. Luckily his tail managed to melt some of the ice into water. But instead of getting hurt by the solid snow, he became slightly drenched. Trying to ignore this, she scanned her surroundings, hoping to start training her Pokemon as soon as possible.

The opportunity to train her Pokemon's mettle in such extreme weather conditions would present itself all too soon. Given the fact that Rane and her Charmander had decided to brave the weather, it meant that they would be completely visible to passing by Pokemon trying to escape the hail. One such creature was a caterpillar like worm which was keeping itself hidden within the nearby bushes dotted along the routes. It was an absolute paltry type of shelter and did little to prevent the scornful hail striking from above with fury. The leaves themselves may have been ideal for sheltering from rain but the leaves were all too fickle in their defence against the falling hail. Its body already battered and near frozen from all the stress, the Wurmple was biding its time. All it had to do was wait for a nearby trainer to come by and it was saved. There was no way this plan could fail. It was dare it thought, foolproof. As the trainer would pass by, the Wurmple would somehow get its attention. That part was still bit of a shady one to itself but it would manage. Somehow. After that, the trainer would then kindly secure it away in a Pokeball and take it away to somewhere safer. ANYWHERE but here. Cackling to itself as it thought of how amazing its plan was, it coiled over suddenly as it nearly missed its chance from laughing over its ingenious plan. Just as it had anticipated, was a trainer walking by. Shuffling forward, it then saw the light of the Charmander's tail and gulped. It was cold, granted but it hardly wanted to be torched alive. Wincing, it tried to think of a subtle way to get her attention. Shrieking out, it fell somewhat sad moment's later as the hail cancelled out with the incessant pitter patter. Realising it had no other options, the Pokemon lifted up its head and took aim. With a sudden expulsion of a silky string like adhesive, it shot it forwards and grabbed a hold of the girl's arm. Tugging backwards, it hoped that she'd get the message. Although, to any rational trainer, it'd seem as if the Wurmple as trying to attack it. Not such a foolproof plan after all then. Encounter

The hail really was a pain, literally. Luckily the shards weren't big enough to give someone a concussion, but it still hurt. Rane reminded herself to buy an umbrella next time she visited the Pokemart. Her eyes scanned the glade, hoping to spot any sign of movement. Her own Charmander was also alert, hoping a battle will warm it up. Suddenly, the Charmander caught a scent and froze in place, his eyes shifting around, trying to pinpoint the source. He let out a warning growl to his Trainer. The fire on his tail began to blaze up more in aggression. "What is it?" Rane asked, noticing Ryuu tensing up. Suddenly she felt a rope-like substance latch around her arm. "What the-!" she gasped, startled as she felt the stringy substance become taught as it tugged at her arm. She whipped around, spotting a flash of red in the bushes. Then she saw the tiny, worm-like body and recognized the creature as a Wurmple. Her Charmander acted quickly, spotting the source of the attack on his Trainer. Ryuu rushed forward at the Wurmple angrily. The hail slowed down his movement and vision but he managed to take aim and lept at the Wurmple, aiming his sharp claws at the tiny insect. Charmander used Scratch

The Wurmple was in for it now, the bug pokemon tried to bring forth it's spikey hide right at the Charmander, but missed. The sharp claws wracked across it's side, and near it's back. The Wurmple wasn't going to give up that easily. It had made a mistake, but it knew what retaliation felt like. The pokemon came forward seeing that Ryuu was close enough, and swung it's head right at the Charmander. Knocking Charmander back a bit, it managed to deal a decent amount of damage at the fire starter.
As the battle continued, the two pokemon were pounded with the hail. Sometimes it was only small pieces that looked like the size of an acorn or a berry. But the others are more like baseball sized. Several pieces of the hail came down striking Ryuu first, then landing on Wurmple causing the bug type pokemon to shiver a bit. Just when would this annoying hail end?

Ryuu let out a satisfied growl as his claws managed to rake through the Wurmple's scaly hide. However, the Wurmple's retaliation caught him by surprise as he was tackled in the stomach. The Charmander grunted in pain and quickly lept back before the Wurmple could deal another blow towards him. Ryuu crouched low to the ground, tail weaving behind him as the fire on his tail burned even brighter, despite the hail. From Ryuu's attack, the sticky substance managed to break off, releasing Rane's arm. She quickly brushed off the web on her arm. "Thanks Ryuu. Now let's show this bug not to mess with us!"she said. Her Charmander let out a sound, showing he was ready. Rane's eyes narrowed, watching the Wurmple's movements. It seemed to be waiting for their move. She decided the best move was to go on the attack. Charmander being much larger than the Wurmple has put them on the advantage. "Give it another Scratch attack,"Rane directed, hoping it'll hit. Ryuu didn't hesitate as he rushe forward, claws poised to strike. Charmander used Scratch

The Wurmple whined, clearly not liking the way this battle was going. It hadn't wanted to battle in the first place, but things were going badly nonetheless. The Charmander and his trainer didn't look too pleased with the tiny worm. But all it had wanted was to escape this blasted hail! Cursing its luck, the Wurmple decided to just go with it. Tackle had proven to be a good attack, but the feisty little bug was all about strategy. It wanted to try something new. Huffing out a calming breath, it tried to ignore the pelting hail, and sat patiently waiting for the Charmander to attack.
Ryuu took the Wurmple's pause in battle as an invitation to attack. Leaping forward, the Charmander ran at the tiny worm, claws extended and ready for an attack. Just as he was about to close in on the Wurmple, the bug attacked, spitting poisonous spines at the Charmander's underbelly. Yowling in pain, Ryuu slashed his claws wildly at the worm, growling in satisfaction as he felt them meet resistance. The Wurmple staggered backwards, fresh gashes littering its tiny body. But its strategy had worked. It had caught the Charmander off guard, and the salamander hadn't even seen the attack coming. Unfortunately, the poison from the spines was unable to do its job, as Ryuu quickly ripped the spines from his body. But the hail did what the poison couldn't, pelting down and damaging the Charmander. The Wurmple, now growing quite weary, wondered absentmindedly when this battle would end, and if there would be any escape from the hail.

Ryuu felt the wounds where the poison needles pierced his belly throb with pain. Gritting his teeth, he pushed away the sensation of pain to the back of his mind. Right now, he had to concentrate on winning the battle. The Charmander shook his head impatiently as shards of ice pelted him. He was going to be full of bruises by the time this battle ended. However, Ryuu was grudgingly thankful that it was ice shards that was falling from the skies instead of rain.
To Rane, it looked like both Pokemon were nearing their limit. She had to make sure Ryuu would be the one victorious when this battle ends. The hail really was becoming a great obstacle. She was sure her Charmander had a better chance of winning, but the continuous hailing weather was diminishing those chances. "Give that Wurmple another Scratch!"she ordered. Nothing else to do but go on the attack. Ryuu happily obliged. The Charmander darted towards the Wurmple, his sharpened claws swiping down, hoping it'll hit.

The Battle seemed to be on its few ends of the trail as the pokemon were both getting tired. Though they wouldn't give up these final few rounds as each one prepared to give it their all. Ryuu had heard Rane's call in order to make a move. It had to admit the wild wurmple was strong, but Ryuu was better. It raced forward and prepared to swipe at Wurmple again. The pokemon winced as it was not even close in an attempt to block the attack. It was just too tired as it too the hit. But it knew there were only going to be a few more moves left in this battle, the wurmple could see that Ryuu was starting to breath heavily as much as it was. As Ryuu stepped back it flinched once more as the hail began to pelt down on them once again, the unforgiving pieces of frozen ice were starting to be a nuisance. Well they were a nuisance in any battle really. Charmander felt the damage as it continued to worsen, but Ryuu wasn't going to give up so easily, it had to finish this battle. Seeing that the hail had died down a bit, Wurmple crawled forward like every caterpilliar pokemon would. It charged straight on with Ryuu knocking it bac a bit. But Ryuu uprighted himself before he would fall and hit the ground. Relieved that it was nothing serious, Ryuu felt more confident that he could finish this battle. But the hail struck again as it came down hitting the Wurmple this time as it flinched in surprise. Just when would the hail come to an end? Wild Pokemon Battle

Rane could see her Charmander was running out of strength to fight. The trainer was sure her Pokemon can survive the Wurmple's next attack but the hailing weather might finish him afterwards. Guess it's now or never...Rane thought. Quickly, she slung her backpack off her back and her hands rummaged around inside. Then she found what she was looking for and took out a red and white Pokeball. Rane hoped the Wurmple looked as weak as she thought. If her calculations weren't correct, then Ryuu might not be able to pull through this battle. "Here we go..."she muttered under her breath before tossing the Pokeball towards the Wurmple.

The Pokeball flew forwards and lightly tapped the Wurmple on the head. Curiously, the Wurmple felt the warm light wrap around it and seemed genuinly confused. A Pokeball? Capture? This was all very crazy for it. It didn't seem to like the idea of being captured at all, but then again, not many Pokemon liked that either. The warm light sucked it inside soon after, and the ball fell to the floor. Ryuu watched the hail pelt the Pokeball as it rocked back and forth on its bottom, seeming to try to will the Pokemon inside to stop fighting, but the Wurmple was still going strong. It continued to rock the Pokeball, a small attempt to try and get out. Though, all things would tire out carrying on like that eventually, which it did. The Pokeball came to a slow stop, clicking shut as it signified the pesky bugs capture. With a certain joy, Ryuu rolled the Pokeball back to his trainer and stopped it in front of her, pleased to have helped capture such a small wriggling creature. __________________________________________________ Ryuu is the victor~!

"Yes!"Rane cheered, feeling triumphant as her first battle turned out as a victory. Her Charmander had rolled the Pokeball that contained their new ally over to her feet. Grinning, Rane crouched down and gave Ryuu a few pats on the head. "Heh great job Ryuu. You really were the best out there,"she praised, giving him a good-natured noogie on the head. Her Charmander gave a cry of protest and batted her hand away with his paws, as if embarrassed by all the praise, but by the wave of his tail and gleam in his eyes, he actually was quite pleased. Rane picked up the Pokeball, sensing the light weight of the Wurmple inside. "Guess you're stuck with us now,"Rane said to the Wurmple in a light-hearted tone. She wondered what its nickname should be. It took a few moments to decide bu she eventually figured one out. She remembered a Wurmple could evolve into either a Cascoon or Silcoon. Two different options....she finally decided. "Welcome to our team Gemini,"WurmpleName: Gemini Gender: Male Level: 6 Moves: Tackle, String Shot, Poison Sting Ability: Shield Dust Nature/Personality: Modest; Gemini isn't exactly the brightest Pokemon but he is willing to work hard to achieve what he wants. He can be a bit of a coward though. "Why don't we take a break Ryuu?" Rane suggested. Her Charmander let out a yawn to show he agreed. The two of them found a leafy tree that sheltered them from the hailing weather. Rane sat down and leaned back against the tree, while Ryuu curled up next to her. Rane looked up at the sky, deep in thought while Ryuu began to doze.

As Ryuu and Rane relaxed under the sheltering branches of a nearby tree, the icy storm finally dissipated, bringing the pelting hail to an end. The sky was far from clear, however, as bleary gray clouds continued to blot out the sun. The lack of sunlight cooled the air and threw off the Pokemon of the route. Several of the more nocturnal creatures awoke, their bodies thinking that it was nightfall.
One such creature sat perched in the branches above Rane. The owl-like Pokemon was roused from its slumber by the lack of sunlight and the dropping temperature. Blearily opening its eyes, the Hoothoot glanced about, wondering absentmindedly why the Sentret were still playing outside if it was close to nightfall. As the sleepy owl contemplated this, a Pidgey flew dangerously close, knocking into the branch and causing the Hoothoot to slip. Down the owl tumbled, flapping its tiny wings in a futile attempt to slow its fall. With a thunk, the rotund bird landed smack on the ground next to Rane and Ryuu. Grumbling angrily, the Hoothoot blinked up at Rane, a scowl set on its beak. Clearly, this Pokemon was not in the mood to play around. It was annoyed, and it planned on taking its aggression out on Rane.

The crackle of branches instantly jerked Rane from her thoughts. She quickly straightened up, her senses alert. She thought she could hear a distinct call of an owl. At first she thought it was her imagination, for it was still daytime. Suddenly, something round and fuzzy plummeted from the tree and crash landed to earth. Rane quickly scrambled to her feet, clearly startled by the sudden appearance of a Hoothoot. Her Charmander had also quickly woken up from his nap, opening his wide blue eyes to see a Hoothoot right in front of him. Ryuu quickly jumped to his feet, staring wide-eyed at the owl. "Geez, and I thought Hoothoots can fly..." Rane muttered, trying to calm her rapidly beating heart. Suddenly, she noticed the angry glint in the Hoothoot's eyes. She didn't know why, but it seems this Pokemon wasn't at all happy to see them. "So you wanna fight us huh?"the Charmander challenged, his flaming tail waving as he, too, saw the aggressive glare of the Hoothoot. "Heh, you picked the wrong pair to fight with,"Rane smirked, glad to see Ryuu was also eager to start battling again. "Scratch attack now!"Ryuu let out a battle cry and lept at the Hoothoot, his sharpened claws poised to strike. Ryuu used Scratch

Hoothoot did not care. It was a pride thing he had been taken off guard and embarrassed the least he could do was defend his honor. Now it was time for a battle. This Charmander before him was obviously quite strong and not scared of him, but maybe after a round or two this little salamander would be tooting a different horn. Hoothoot was ready as it prepared for its own attack.
The Charmander however was quicker out of the gate. It went straight for the Hoothoot without skipping a beat. Its sharp claws penetrated the soft skin of the Hoothoot quite deep. The avian yelled out in pain as the Charmander seemed quite pleased with itself. Without warning the Hoothoot defensively used a deep growl attack scaring the charmander into a quick retreat back toward its trainer to regroup. Hoothoot was not going to take this match lying down as it took flight hovering a few feet above the ground glaring at the Charmander.

Ryuu was now thinking twice about attacking the Hoothoot head-on. The growl from the round owl certainly startled him but he refused to backdown. Some small growl wasn't enough to send him running, and he was now going to prove that. Rane watched the Hoothoot hover above the ground, waiting for Ryuu's next move. Another scratch attack might prove a bit difficult since their enemy was flying bird. "Let's show this Hoothoot your Ember attack!" Rane decided, hoping her Charmander had good accuracy. Ryuu's tail flame seemed to grow bright as the orange lizard prepared for a fire attack. He felt his stomach seem to bubble with hot lava and he opened his mouth wide, ready to shoot out a jet of flame, hoping the result would be a smoking owl.
