"I hate mornings."
The disgruntled teenager emerged from the PokeMart, stocked up with a few more supplies. She stopped for a second just outside the doors and swung her bag off her shoulders to unzip it and plunge a hand into its depths. Struggling, she extricated the object of her desire - a green bandana. Her hair was a mess today, sticking up in every direction.
Letting her bag slide to her feet, Tanya carefully put the bandana on, tying the knot good and tight. Satisfied she didn't look like a total dork, she zipped her bag back up and swung one arm through a strap, letting it dangle a little loosely on her back.
The sun was gentler in the mornings, casting a calm but warm light down upon the stirring city. Over the din of the morning, she could pick out the sound of waves crashing in the distance. Maybe later she'd pay a visit to the beach.
Tanya smiled to herself and began a trek into the city to explore. Though it was tempting to let her Pokemon out, she repressed the thought; they could all cause a bit of a problem. Saphira could accidentally burn someone; Fiero would just rob everyone in sight; and Kalian would go flying away in a simple breeze. Eh, they were her oddballs, but she wouldn't unleash their havoc on the innocent city.
Humming under her breath, auburn hair shimmering in the sun despite its messy appearance, the girl strolled down the sidewalk away from the Mart, free arm swinging as if she had not a care in the world.

A gentle stroll through Cherrygrove City - slowly advancing along the seashore path, an inquisitive Delibird inhaled deeply. His entire squad had been deployed on 'special duties' this Easter. Allowing his eyes to lazily drift over the horizon, sliding onto the picturesque rooftops of the Cherrygrove seaside terrace, the plump red penguin's mouth twitched into a subtle smile. Water sloshing quietly to his left, the warm morning sun hugging his small figure; this assignment was a far cry from a Delibird's usual Wintertime Service.
Approaching an obscurely ornate ice cream parlour, settled neatly at the edge of the beach, the Delibird crept around and swiftly hopped into the kitchen at the back of the café, conveniently open onto the vast sandy surface of the surrounding beach. Vibrant red feathers dressing his body, Delibird himself found the fact that he had not been noticed amusing. Craftily waddling to the dessert deposits, the Ice-type scooped out a large irregular mass of freshly-made chocolate ice cream. The delicious clump of chocolate had been cooled to a temperate cold enough to attach itself to a human hand upon contact; Delibird's natural ability and environmental experiences allowed holding the ice cream to feel no different to attempting to clutch any other sweet non-desrcript semi-liquid stolen goods.
Joyfully licking the chocolate from his sticky wing, the Delivery Pokémon mindlessly wandered across the street towards the inner city. Pleasant skies, refreshing ice cream, interesting task; the Delibird felt that his morning had progressed in a truly perfect manner - until he suddenly felt something firm halt his journey, knocking his ice cream from his arms. Without any time for mourning, the bird looked ahead, a huge black mass blanketing his vision. Nervously taking a step back, Delibird gasped inwardly, eyes falling upon the shiny black flank of a Houndoom.
The large helldog growled aggressively at the Delibird - offering a ten second warning. Without hesitation, the Delivery Pokémon began to bound down the city street, forcing his little body to travel with more speed than it ever had before. Houndoom dashed after it, quickly closing the distance between the panicking Pokémon and itself, taunting the Delibird, loud barks laced with mockery. Eyes tightly shut, Delibird rushed forward, wishing to open his eyes to anywhere but Cherrygrove City.
For a second time, Delibird was stopped in his tracks due to impact with an unexpected surface. Wide eyes jolting open, the breathless bird focussed his vision on a teenage girl. Striking green eyes, glorious auburn hair; diving onto the already toppled female, Delibird hugged her tightly - he had found his recipient. The vicious canine landed vehemently in front of the pair, glaring harshly at Tanya, venom dripping from every exasperated pant. The Fire-type falsely launched itself at Delibird a few times, snapping and growling loudly. Exhaling short bursts of flames into the air, licking the space just inches from the red and white Pokémon's face, Houndoom cruelly relished in this intimidation. While its preferred outcome was to rip the offending Delibird apart, the Dark-type felt that dealing with a Trainer was an unnecessary inconvenience. One final whip of its arrow-pointed tail, Houndoom began to walk away, with a snort and a smirk.
While the Delibird remained shocked by his ordeal, all birds in the Service had been trained to be professional, always. Removing himself from Tanya, the Delivery Pokémon bowed in apology, followed by an unsteady smile. Turning to his sack, the Flying-type tugged at a round object, revealing itself to be a Pokémon Egg. While not damaged from the attack, the entire surface of the Egg seemed to be charred, entirely masking the colour. Offering the delivery to Tanya, Delibird allowed his trauma to take over and dropped to the ground, wobbling as he settled onto his back, panting slowly. The adolescent Trainer noticed that the layer of ash seemed to brush off easily, disappearing at her touch. After more thoroughly wiping the Egg clean, Tanya discovered the colour...

The day was just beginning to feel nice. Tanya stretched, rolling her shoulders to ease the ache she felt there. Each step jostled her bag against her shoulder blades, various items held within thrown in pell-mell and not sorted. She was the typical lazy teenager - what did you expect?
Closing her eyes to bask in the warmth of the rising sun, she let her mind wander. How were Nadia and Tyler doing? Their battle had been an inspiring one. Her boots clomped quietly across the pavement, clothes tickled by a soft breeze that also stirred the loose strands of hair escaping her bandana. The temptation to let at least one of her Pokemon accompany her through her walk in the city was beginning to grow.
But first, there was a small red and white problem heading her way.
Eyes still closed, she felt something collide with her legs and toppled over with a gasp. Emerald eyes flying open, she took in the Delibird hugging her torso as if she were a buoy in a violent sea. There was a menacing growl, followed by a blast of heat.
The snaps of the Houndoom's jaws, as well as the licking flames spurting from its mouth, served to render Tanya silent. It seemed to regard the pair with a disappointed gleam to its eyes before turning and stalking away with a dismissive flick of its tail. The girl breathed again, relief coursing through her veins. The Delibird, too, looked relieved at the absence of such an intimidating foe. It bowed to her in apology and gave her a smile.
Delibirds were often used to, well, deliver stuff. As it turned and rummaged in its pack, confusion was born in her mind. Something... for me? Yeah right... she thought inwardly, brow furrowing. The bird retrieved a scorched, sooty round object and presented it to her.
Tanya accepted it quietly, murmuring her thanks, and began to brush the ash off. It came off with ease, and after a thorough wipe-down, it was revealed to be a purple egg. It bordered on the shade of magenta, and the teenage girl studied it with a barely concealed look of glee and awe. Glancing up from her new Egg, her eyebrows shot up as she saw the Delibird plop down onto its back.
With deft movements, Tanya maneuvered onto her knees and scooted over, looking down at the panting Ice type. "Are you okay?" she asked, gemstone eyes filled with a quiet concern for its well-being. No Pokemon ever came off better in a scrape with a Houndoom. Notorious for being vicious, and infamous for their pain-inducing flames that never quite stopped hurting. The girl hugged the Egg close to her body, as if it were extremely precious - which it definitely was.

Somewhat surprised at her show of concern for him, the Delibird blinked his beady eyes a few times at Tanya, tilting his head to a side before he slowly, steadily got to his feet. That Houndoom certainly had been one of the more worrisome hazards he had come across in his line of work, but he had all his limbs intact and it was likely that he could ask for a bonus the moment he got back. Job had its perks, after all. "Delibird!" The rotund avian chirped in a happy manner to let the redheaded trainer know that he was alright or at least as alright as he could be after such an ordeal. He could stand and walk, and that in the end was really all that mattered. He dug a short list out of his burlap sack and crossed off a name thoughtfully before stashing it back inside and heaving the goods over his shoulder. "Delibird Deli!" He called out to Tanya just before he left, warning her in a friendly manner to take good care of the egg he had delivered to her; he hadn't come this far for nothing after all! With that he took a deep breath and marched off make his next delivery, eyes alert just in case the Houndoom decided to randomly pop out again for round two. He began to hum something that sounded suspiciously like "Dreaming of a White Christmas" before disappearing into the city's many alleys. Unknown to Tanya however, a certain creature was hidden high up in one of the trees lining the boulevards; Its long, sinuous body was coiled around a thick branch from where it was sunbathing in the morning light. The Delibird had caught its attention, as it knew the bird to be food and delivery service both. As the bird left however, the golden-eyed animal grinned from ear to ear as it saw the egg in the trainer's grasps--a rather pretty one at that. Still, not too pretty that it wouldn't eat it; Eggs were one of its favored foods after all. Perhaps there was a way it could relieve this human of her prize? An easy breakfast was so hard to come by nowadays especially when the birds here were either smarter or more vicious. "Ekanssssssss..." The young snake hissed deviously as it smoothly glided down the tree trunk and snuck up behind the trainer whose reddish-brown mane fluttered ever so picturesquely in the wind. Female. This would be easier than it thought. "Ekannnnsssssss!" The snake struck, coiling itself around one of Tanya's legs, hoping to startle her enough that she would drop her prized egg... Ekans [Lvl 7] appeared!

Tanya smiled in relief as the bird seemed to be fine. It pulled itself back onto its feet and consulted a list before waving at her and chattering what she could only assume was a warning to take care of her egg. With a light chuckle, she secured an arm around the egg and waved as the Delibird began to fade from view.
With a quiet exhalation of breath, the teenager rose to her feet and straightened the hair tickling her cheek. She looked down at the purple Egg in her arms and couldn't suppress the giggle that burst from her rosy lips.
Sure, it was responsibility, but still! The mystery of what Pokemon lay inside the Egg! Oh how the very thought made her heart race. With a quick roll of her shoulders to adjust the way her backpack rested against her back, Tanya prepared to continue on in the city. That is, until something very solid and sinuous struck her in the back of the legs and wrapped around one. A gasp of shock whistled out past her teeth; the better part of her attention was focused on not letting her new delivery take a tumble to the pavement. Her arms tightened around it to keep it from spilling out.
Green eyes flicking down, balance still wobbly, Tanya spotted hungry golden eyes focused on her. No, they were focused on her Egg. There was no mistaking that lean purple body, almost pure muscle, coiled around her leg.
Ekans!
Instead of undiluted fear, a sense of joy seemed to radiate from the girl. Of all the Pokemon that could have found her, it was one she grew up with in her childhood! Her father had owned a young Ekans she used to love playing with. Since that fond time in her childhood, she'd held a certain affection for the Poison type.
This one seemed a little more intimidating than the one she'd known, though. And bending down to pet it on the head wasn't the smartest idea. Instead, Tanya reached slowly for her pocket and pulled out one Ball she'd stuffed within it just in case of situations where she couldn't reach her bag - situations like these.
Pressing the button on the front of the capsule, the Ball grew larger within her palm. She pointed it down before her and watched as a red beam erupted and shaped itself into her Meowth, Fiero.
The feline blinked against the startling brightness of the morning sun before turning around. A loud hiss and the cat leapt back. Obviously this was not his idea of a good morning. Tanya's green eyes sought Fiero's amber ones and pleaded with him. "Use Bite," the girl murmured, eyes slipping back to watch the snake still wrapped around her leg. Fiero grinned and launched himself at the snake without hesitation, his earlier shock forgotten. Mouth agape, he aimed to sink his sharp little fangs into the area behind its head.

Fiero dived at the writhig pink snake before it knew what was going on! Its long, pearly White teeth pierced the snake's scaley skin before jumping backwards, avoiding the Ekans' counter attack.
It came soon enough, though. The pokémon jumped at Fiero, tail first. It wrapped its way around the Meowth quickly, squeezing tightly. Ekans had no intention of letting go.

Time seemed to speed up as Fiero sank his fangs eagerly into the snake's scales and bit down before leaping away. The Ekans had emitted a raspy, throaty hiss before its muscular body loosened its grip around her leg. It charged forwards and wrapped itself around the Meowth, who let out a sharp growl that blended pain and anger.
Her leg tingling from blood resuming its usual flow in her veins, Tanya winced as the snake constricted its body tightly around her little kleptomaniac. She knew that he wouldn't be able to squeeze an arm free to lash out with his stronger Scratch attack. Even so, Fiero would have a hard time trying to use any other attacks either.
Tempting as it was to return him, the girl sensed something that told her to let him fight for as long as he could. Head dipping to reassure herself, Tanya quickly tried to think out another command for her Meowth. Before that, she had to prepare for anything - ranging between capture and healing.
Bending down, she quietly knelt down on the ground. Green eyes focused on the combatants, she pulled her backpack off and set it on the ground before her. Once she got the chance, she'd catch that purple sucker. Her heart thrummed a steady beat in her chest.
Her arms kept the Egg snuggled tight against her chest, safe from further harm. A rustling sound from her bag distracted her, and an orange head poked out, staring around. With everything else that morning having stolen most of her attention, she'd almost forgotten of her newest addition.
Ignitus peeped, black eyes sparkling as they fixed on his new 'mother' figure. Tanya grinned sheepishly and reached out to scratch his head with a couple fingers. "Don't be watching this right now, sweetie. Not til you're a little older," she crooned under her breath, gently pressing the Torchic's head back down into the bag. He peeped a few times in protest, but didn't decide to leap out in defiance.
Finished with that, the girl focused on the battle again. "We can work around this! Give it another dose of that Bite of yours!" she said confidently.
Fiero struggled again, mouth opening wide as he prepared his counter attack.
Sparkling ivory teeth glinted in the sun just before the feline aimed to bite down harshly on the mass of scales closest to his face.

And Bite he did! Biting as deep as possible, Fiero got the message across. 'You fight with me, I will destroy you'. "Ekans!" the snake let out a loud hiss in anger and, instead of releasing Fiero, wrapped ever further. Ekans was starting to press down on Fiero's ribs! Fiero had better get rid of this pokémon quickly! Before Meowth could react, Ekans' tail end opened up to reveal a small, sharp stinger! Ekans brought it round and showed it to Fiero taunting him. It plunged itself into Fiero's abdomen to cries of pain! Ekans hissed softly and thought to itself 'Revenge is sweet'. The pain Fiero was in pierced her like a physical wound. No matter how valiantly he seemed to fight back, the Ekans was just a little too strong. Her free hand curled into a fist as the girl gritted her teeth in frustration. And I can't even help him! As far as her knowledge went with moves, attacks that kept a Pokemon bound to another, like Wrap, prevented their recall.
Ignitus' head reappeared and before Tanya could stop him, he tumbled from the bag and fell onto his butt. Shaking his head, the small fowl began peeping in indignation at the Ekans and started moving forwards. "No Iggy!" Tanya yelped, lunging towards her Torchic and snagging him around the torso before he could get any further away. "Chiiiiiiii!" Ignitus cried out, struggling in her grip.
He really wanted to help Fiero, who was still mewling in pain from being struck by the snake's stinger. Eventually, Iggy gave up, sagging against Tanya's palm with a dejected look in his eyes. This battle wasn't his.
Tanya managed to awkwardly move the Torchic to rest beside the Egg, both giving off a bit of warmth. Ignitus snuggled in, still watching the battle forlornly. Her own eyes sparkled with the beginning of tears at the sight of her Meowth slowly being crushed. The other half of her brain, the logical side, was processing ideas for their next move.
Using Bite again would likely just enrage it further, and do more harm than good. Scratch wasn't even physically possible, given his arms were pinned to his body. So what did that leave? A sudden spark of hope lit up her green eyes. Growl... if he can do it right... she prayed, taking a deep, steadying breath in through her nose.
"Fiero! I want you to Growl as loud as you can! Deafen it!" she yelled, tone mixed with anguish and confidence. Fiero's sensitive hearing managed to pick up on his trainer's command over the agonizing, throbbing pain coursing through every nerve in his body. Mouth opening wide, the feline gasped in a huge swallow of oxygen.
Amber eyes locked angrily on his antagonist, Fiero let out a shrieking growl, expelling every last store of air in his lungs. It was enough to cause Tanya to wince and wish she had a second set of arms to plug her ears; maybe it had enough oomph behind it to get the Ekans to realize this was one target it didn't want to be anywhere near. Even Iggy was dazed by the volume of the shrieked Growl, his head bobbing forwards and back as he tried to restore his hearing.
Hell, she wouldn't be surprised if her parents in Blackthorn heard her Meowth.

Fiero's Growl caused major pain in the Ekan's sensitive ears, making it slink to the ground weakly. However, the snake refused to let go of the Meowth, making it wince in pain.
This snake was tough... really tough. Hopefully, Fiero will be able to make a comeback.

Iggy chirped in triumph as Fiero's shockingly loud growl had successfully loosened the crushing hold he'd been embraced with. Tanya's keen eyes watched as the snake seemed to ease up, still keeping Fiero bound, but leaving a critical avenue of attack wide open.
They could still turn this around. With a small, hesitant smile clearing away some of the panic from her face, the teenager called out to her Meowth once again. "Alright Fiero! Now that it's loosened up, wiggle your arm free and give it a revenge Scratch! Make it pay for the pain you've been afflicted with!" she said in clear tones, trying to instill a fighting fury within her feline.
Amber eyes blazing, the tawny cat squirmed and wriggled until one arm was extricated from the coiled mass around his torso. Raising it in the air, trembling slightly due to blood rushing back to it, Fiero extended his claws and slashed down at whatever part of the Ekans he could reach.
He aimed to put as much power as he could behind the blow; he meant to pay vengeance upon this scaly foe. "Chii! Chiiii!" Ignitus peeped out to encourage and embolden his fellow Pokemon. Tanya chuckled hoarsely and rubbed the Torchic's head again, grateful that he wasn't in that Ekans' strong hold.
Actually, Iggy would more likely be swallowed than crushed. She couldn't repress the shiver of fear at that mental image, and subconsciously clutched Iggy closer to her body.

Fierro managed to find an opening and slashed at the Ekans with great force, making it release its grip on him. Fierro shook himself off and grinned widely as Ekans panted heavily. The attack took a devestating toll on the snake and it seemed to be close to fainting. The Ekans soon used its Poison Sting attack, releasing poison barbs from its mouth and it Fierro hard. He shivered from the impact but shook it off, glaring harshly.

Soon, the purple colored egg begin to move wildly in Tanya's arms. It began to crack, the wiggling becoming faster. Soon, the egg cracked from the top and out came bursting out a small brown baby bunny Pokemon. It yawned tiredly as if it had just woken up from a long slumber. It rubbed its tiny eyes and gazed up at Tanya, tilting its head in a cute manner. "Neary?" it cried. It soon smiled happily and giggled, pressing its small paws on its cheeks to hide its rosy cheeks.

As the Ekans finally released Fiero, both Pokemon and human sighed in relief simultaneously. The feline shook his body out, stretching his formerly compressed muscles and attempting to work out the knots before he was assaulted with a spray of stinging poisonous needles.
Tanya let her grip slacken and nudged Iggy carefully, who got the hint and jumped from her arms. Shifting the Egg more securely under her arm, the girl reached into her backpack and retrieved an unused Poke Ball, green eyes fixed on the snake as it faced down Fiero. The feline's tail swished back and forth rapidly, displaying his agitation with the serpent.
He would just have to stomach it down.
With uncanny accuracy, she held her arm back and then let it spring forwards, fingers releasing the shiny red and white sphere they had been clutching. As it arced past Fiero and aimed to land on the Ekans, she could only utter a silent prayer to capture it successfully.
But her attention became diverted when the Egg she was holding began to tremble and then shake wildly. Ignitus peeped and cocked his head to the side as Tanya spluttered. "Oh no that Delbird's gonna kill me for breaking his Egg!" she wailed, completely unaware of the process of hatching. Ignitus fell over in shock and muttered a few noises of incredulous disbelief.
As the Egg fell apart in her arms, the Pokemon within plopped gently into her arm. It yawned before peering at her and making a cute noise of curiosity. Adoration bloomed in her eyes as she stared down at the little bunny.
"Awwww aren't you a little cutie!" she cooed, tickling the little Pokemon's stomach with a couple of fingers. Iggy peeped loudly and began to peck Tanya's knee. It seemed her Torchic was a little jealous. She reassured the small fowl with an affectionate pat before she fawned over her new Pokemon. "I think... I'll call you Angelus!" Tanya declared, smiling at the small rabbit.
Despite how badly she yearned to just coo over the little Pokemon snuggled in her arms, her head turned back up towards the battlefield, anxiously awaiting to see she had captured the snake yet.

As the Pokeball was thrown towards the Ekans, the snake tried to dodge the upcoming object, only its attempt failed as it was sucked inside. The Pokeball bounced to the ground and began to totter side to side. It moved once. Twice. Three times.
DING!!
The capture was a success! Angelus grinned widly and cried out with joy. Not only was it just hatched, it found a new friend as well. Surely the Ekans would make a good edition to Tanya's team.

Tanya grinned and pumped her free fist in the air as the capture was successful. Angelus slipped from her arms to hop over to Fiero, who was staring sullenly at Poke Ball a few feet in front of him. Tanya rose to her feet and gracefully swept over to the statue-still ball, picking it up and smiling at it. "Welcome to the team Veleno," she christened her newest addition. Fiero tagged along behind his trainer, muttering under his breath.
Angelus followed, seeming entranced by Fiero's presence. After depositing the ball into her bag, the girl turned around and recalled the tired Meowth. Angelus seemed offended, but softened as Tanya rubbed her head affectionately.
"Ah, you'll see him again," she assured the rabbit, tapping her on the head gently with her own Poke Ball and storing it safely into her bag. Ignitus peeped, looking curious as to why he wasn't being recalled as well.
The sun's light streamed down on the street, causing the auburn haired female to raise a hand up and shield her eyes. "We're getting in some training, Iggy. You're up next on the docket," Tanya explained, flashing a bright smile at the little fowl. Iggy peeped excitedly, running around in a circle.
With a quiet exhalation of air, the teenager peered down the street before walking at a brisk pace. Cherrygrove teemed with Pokemon; they'd be sure to find one in no time.
Ignitus followed, running as fast as his short little legs could carry him. His head swiveled around, watching warily for anything that might pop out and scare him.
