This discussion started to rise up in the Mod Rewards section and I thought it'd be a good idea to get members involved in it too. I have been thinking lately about how we can begin to introduce TMs into the rp.
In the games, the two main ways of obatining TMs have been to either find them as items in the overworld or to buy them from shops. I'm not sure how practical the first method would be and although I can set up a TM shop, it just sounds a bit mundane and setting prices for all of them would be my worst nightmare.
But lately I've thought of perhaps a better idea. We could set up specialist NPCs in each town, each being kind of like the guru or master of a particular TM. These trainers will be much more of a challenge than the everyday NPC that are present right now and it'd also fit in well with my plan to slowly make the rp more difficult and challenging as most of our members are already experienced trainers anyway.
For each specialist NPC, they could use one particular tactic against the player such that it directly relates to a TM and if the player manages to overcome the NPC and his/her strategy, they would then receive the TM that caused them so much grief. For example, one trainer may use the Sub-Punching combo and after defeating him/her, you would receive TM01(Focus Punch). I think this has the potential to educate people and make them aware of the kind of tactics that are out there. Maybe this could make us all better at battling in general.
My final thoughts on these kind of NPCs are that they should perhaps be entirely optional to battle. It'd kind of suck if a trainer with a team of Spikers and Walls jumped out of the bushes at you when you only wanted to get to the next city. =( Also, perhaps you could battle these trainers multiple times to get the same TM over and over again since I never liked the fact that some TMs were only obtainable once throughout the game. This could mean that players with a high-leveled team could farm these TMs and sell them to the more inexperienced members who might not want to engage in difficult battles yet.
Having said all this, I don't think all TMs would be suitable for something like this and inevitably some TMs will be purchasable in shops. Others I could add as rewards in exchange for Mod Points or Rocket Points.
I'd love to know what other people think about this idea and whether anyone has better ideas or could add to the current one for making TMs more readily available.
