Name:
James Alphonso Dudley
Age:
10 years old
Gender:
boy
Trainer Type:
He is largely a trainer, but if he sees a challenge of any kind he is normally inclined to at least consider.
Hometown:
“Goldenrod City - A developing city where people and Pokémon come and go as they like.”
Appearance:
Simply put, the ten year old trainer is yellow haired and brown skinned with green eyes. Typically he will wear a loose, classic white T-shirt with a plain teal vest overtop. His wrists will have teal cloth bands, and a watch is hidden beneath one of them. His legs are covered with baggy camouflage cargo pants, and his shoes are nearly-new black and white sneakers. The boy could not rightfully be called chubby or skinny, but somewhere in between from a life spent in a largely safe environment. He has little stamina or strength, and will have to build it up during his journey. His build is slightly stocky, and he is of average height, 4'6", despite his occasional insistence that he’s tall.
His hands have only had to hold school things, but are slightly worn from occasional rough play in the outdoors. His skin is the color of milk chocolate, with a smooth, sheltered complexion. His eyes are blue-green, youthfully round but focused with a point near the edge. His nose has an upward hook. His face is angular, but softened by youth. James’s blond hair is straight, thick and short with a widow’s peak so that it does not need much attention besides washing to stay neat, although sometimes he runs his hands through it when upset.
Personality:
James has the mindset that value on life is placed not on the life itself, but the qualities that life has; beauty, strength, and adaptability are all must haves. Any character qualities that enhance those things are what he strives to keeps. He is egotistic, and insecure; he consequently has developed a habit of putting others down to raise himself up, basically a bully. He is selfish, ambitious, and very dedicated to whatever cause he chooses. Although he knows that he must be adaptable, that is the one quality that he finds difficult to nurture in himself; he is inflexible, and handles unforeseen circumstances quite angrily. Imperfections upset him.
On the bright side, he is funny, clever, and charming/friendly/kind when he wants to be.
James is used to getting his way in life. He does not know how to forgive people as he's never been required to, and so holds a grudge for a very long time, at least until he forgets the person's existence. Whenever something unpleasant happens to or is said to him, James tries his best to forget it, after an appropriate immediate response, of course. Never let it be said of him that he was a wimp, or else he'd... protest that he was a wimp. Although he can be baited into dares, James has a strong sense of self-preservation, and will not do anything that is TOO dangerous.
History:
Born to Lelia Jones Dudley and Aaron Herbert Dudley, James Alphonso Dudley was entitled to a life of all the care that money could buy, barring royalty. Both of his parents worked at full time jobs; Aaron was a successful entrepreneur, and now has steady work as a businessman, although his love is for tinkering. Lelia is a scientist trying to invent new breakthroughs in the genetic world of pokemon. Both of them sometimes work with shady deals, but most of the time they keep themselves clean. Their jobs keep them preoccupied, so unless they take the tyke to work (which they do, a few times, James clinging to their tailcoats in the office building), James is watched by a babysitter until he is able to go to school. After that, he normally stays a bit later playing with his friends since his parents’ work schedules generally matched up with the school hours, give or take 3 hours. After all, there was plenty of caterpie to poke sticks at and pranks to be pulled on the girls who squealed and ran.
James’s father was a businessman, and his mother was a scientist. Whenever the topic of parents came about, that was what he boasted; his parents were important people who made lots of money, and James hoped that his classmates would understand that that made James, in turn, powerful. He got along well with some boys, but others avoided him and called him a snob. Girls never liked him, but he didn’t really like them that much for a while, teasing them and picking on them for sport. Picking on anybody he considered weaker was a sport, a once-in-a-while pastime that didn’t involve dangerous dares to prove one’s worth. Who cared if the venonat was nearly as big as they were? They could catch it with their bare hands! When it bit the unlucky boy who had pounced on it, James’s group of friends and he kept their silence about why the venonat had attacked them; after all, he was cured of his poisoning and all was well again. James was glad that that hadn’t been him, and from then on was careful not to actually perform any dares involving pokemon, turning the dares onto the other person with the “double and triple” dare strategies.
He was never lonely; whenever he felt bored, he would go strike up a conversation with the butler at home, or call one of his friends. Sometimes it hurt whenever one of his ‘friends’ betrayed him and decided to call him mean names, but he would call him names back and comfort himself with his existing friends. And the pet purrugly always hissed at him and never let him pet it. He frowned and then took his revenge by chasing the cat away before tending to his scratches with tears (never gaining sympathy from the butler). James wished that just sometimes someone would stay nice to him forever. He knew that people would only be nice to you if you were nice to them, sometimes, but he wished that the love of some people, like his parents, were unconditional. Sure his parents were good to him, but he wondered if he really, really tested his limits if they would even care and scold him like Officer Jenny did after he vandalized the police station wall. It turned out that his parents were displeased with him about that, and he got grounded for that incident. It comforted him to know that they did love him at least that much… even though being punished was annoying.
He knew that his parents’ work was very important, and as he grew older he became more interested in it, and was treated to interesting lectures from his dad and was allowed to watch his mom as she brainstormed new ideas. Sometimes letters came that his parents would look concerned over, but when he asked they explained that some people thought that their important work was bad, and wanted to stop them because they didn’t understand the good that they were bringing about. This confused James a bit, but after talking over the concept with his friends, they all agreed that that was one super comic book idea. His parents were like heroes, he realized. And if he wanted to be cool, then he’d better be, too.
When James turned nine, his family took an even greater interest in what he was interested in, and he was given all sorts of trinkets and gadgets to fuel his interest in pokemon. They saw that his interest lay in pokemon, and so his mom in particular tried and succeeded in getting him to see the merits of breeding better pokemon. James was fascinated that pocket monsters who were generally weak could become much stronger. His dad encouraged innovative thinking, and James wondered about the make of the pokeball. The big textbook gave him a headache when he tried to read it, but he didn’t stop thinking of the concept in his mind. He wanted to make his parents happy, make them think that he was clever. Everybody was looking forward to when he would turn ten years old and go visit the laboratory. Some of his classmates had already gone, and he wanted to get going already!
Goals:
James is determined to become an awesome pokemon trainer. He wants to become strong, and for now daydreams about being “the very best”, but later as trials beset him his goals will change. Instead he will struggle to keep control, to become strong enough to make his parents proud, and to be strong enough to crush most anyone who might crush him. First and foremost will be the challenge of cooperating and training his pokemon.
Once he does become strong, his goals will change to prove that he’s strong, and after that to become more devious.
