After the event at the Bellsprout Tower, Ethan had a new goal: to find himself a new nickname in the Johto region. He basically spent a week in the Pokemon Center to think of a new name for his music career, and also to record some new tracks inside the comfort of Violet City Pokemon Center. He went outside a few times a day only to eat, feed his Pokemon, and to have some exercise. He had this certain kind of motivation going on.

During the early part of the week though, Ethan thought he was being stalked by a Shuppet. Eventually, the ghost type seemed to have taken a liking of him and phased through the walls, greeting him. It was a strange experience for Ethan, as even though he wasn't spooked by ghost or ghost type Pokemon, he found the encounter unusual. What even unusual was that the Shuppet doesn't speak, hum, or murmur. It was perhaps the quietest Pokemon he had seen. One thing he was intrigued though, was whether or not the Shuppet could read his mind. Could she? The Shuppet even went to grabbing one of Ethan's Pokeball and captured herself in it, as if she had been watching or reading Ethan from afar. Lastly, it seemed to be a slightly different color from the usual Shuppets.

After the week was over, it was done. He had made tracks and he had named himself DJ. Berrythorn, named after his love of various berry toppings on his pancake, or just that some berries or berry juices taste great in general. The thorn part though, came from how he could be blunt like a thorn obviously on a plant sticking out comments.

With the Violet badge on hand and the thing he needed to do in Violet completed, he had decided to move on from here. Swapping out a few stronger Pokemon for weaker ones, he step foot in Route 32 first, making his way toward Union Cave.

He wondered what Pokemon or trainers were around this city.

It wouldn't take too long to find out what would be greeting them on this new leg of the journey. Almost a second after Ethan and co had made their first foray into the lengthy route 32 that a noise, rather irritable, could be distinguished far off in the distance behind them. It was subdued at first, gradually increasing in volume until it became not unlike that of a bothersome fly disrupting any happy semblance of peace and quiet with its incessant buzzing. Louder and louder it got until faint words could almost be made out. "eeeeeeeeeeeeeee-----iiiiiissss----errrrrrrr" It suddenly died off but a moment later, the full sentence could be finally be heard. "HEEEEEEEEEY!!!!!! WAIT! MIIIIIISSSSSTEERRRRRRRR!" With nobody else in the nearby vicinity, it was clear that this was directed to none other than Ethan himself. Had his musical career rocketed off enough that he was now being flooded for autographs. Perhaps the owner of the voice was wanting a recorded signed, maybe a poster, or other merchandise. Or perhaps... It was something else entirely.

Now coming into full view, it seemed the person that had been calling after Ethan was a diminutive little youngster. Wearing typical adornments for trainers of that clique, he shifted his cap to the side and stretched forwards, resting his hands on his thighs as he struggled to recapture his breath. He certainly had run quite far to be so out of breath. Eventually regaining his composure, he looked over, in pain to a degree as if suffering from a stitch when he managed to string together why he had got Ethan to have stopped. "Hey mister. You're that guy right?" Motioning his head forward with a gesture, it was almost as if he was recognising his accomplishments as a musician. Sadly, it would be a little off target. "Y'know! The one who beat Falkner!" His connection being made clear, he carried on. "I was there, y'know. Front row seats! Wow-a-wow. What a fight. Still can't believe you plucked Falkner's victory right from his nose!" Looking up to Ethan with a sense of adoring, he seemed overly excited. "How about we have a battle?! I wanna take on the guy who beat Falkner! Yeah!" Tossing the Pokeball forward he had in his hand, he revealed a Pokemon not quite as enthusiastic as his trainer. If anything, a little dopey.

Walking quietly by himself, as there wasn't a need to talk to anyone, Ethan thought he heard something, and indeed there was as the sound got louder and louder. He stopped and looked around to see what it was. He saw something orange and blue running toward him, and the voice shouting was a child yelling at Ethan.

"Hey mister. You're that guy right?" the trainer listened and was a bit startled, as this could meant a lot of things. It wasn't until the youngster talked about the gym leader fight that he internally sighed a breath of relief.

He smiled and replied to the kid politely, "You... were in the audience? There were a lot of you I couldn't remember everyone, and the gym leader seemed like a few years older but he's quite intimidating too, so please forgive me if I don't remember you." Ethan felt that he was actually relieved to find out that his career hadn't started this early, thankfully!

Looking at his Pokemon and his request, he happily obliged, though it wasn't like he could escape a trainer battle. He smiled and tossed out a Pokeball, speaking, "Well, I am pretty much on my way to the next gym and city , which I think it's Bugsy's gym, right? After this fight do you want to come along? You could watch my next battle too, you know? But it'll probably be a week or two to get my Pokemon ready as I want to use different Pokemon this time... Go, Ratz! Start with a Bite! Okay, I'm not training this one for the next gym but I think Ratz could get out of his Pokeball for a bit."

Staring up with adoration at his new found hero, the youngster was clearly quite taken with Ethan actually responding and acknowledging him. The last hero he had looked up to had been something of a farce and not as heroic as they had made out. This Ethan though, he was something else. "Gee mister! I wouldn't expect you to have seen me! ...I didn't have the best of views either, it was kinda crowded... But but but the battle was what mattered. As your Pokemon went against Falkner's I saw everything with perfect clarity." His words going about a mile a minute, the boy was clearly over excited about having caught up and met with Ethan. What Ethan said next did little to deter the youth's superabundant excitement. "WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAHHHHH! WHAT?! REALLT?! You mean, you're asking me to come to your next battle?! Wow! I didn't think you'd say that!" Both of his fists clenching and shaking with a mixture of nerves and excitement, he stuttered around before finally getting his words out correctly. "S-S-Sure! I gotta go tell my mum and make sure i'm free but I have relatives in Azalea. I bet I could travel over, stay the night and watch you fight in the gym! Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeah!" Jumping up and down enthusiastically, it seemed Ethan had certainly acquired a super fan of sorts. And it was hard to tell if he had listened to his musical beats at this point. Having almost lost what track of what he had originally requested, Gordon blinked as Ethan mentioned Ratz and given him some time out of his Pokeball. "Oh right! The battle! Duh!" Shaking his head, he looked at Ethan's choice.

"Huh cool! Rattata are amazing. I always wanted one but I could never find them." His face becoming a little glum, it mattered little as it was soon alight with wonder as Ethan ordered his Pokemon to move. Responding without hesitation, the rodent went scuttling off onwards to its target with a series of agile pounces before it stood before the Wooper, opening its maw and gnashing down with its impressive set of incisors. Letting out a short yelp, the Wooper hopped away as it wriggled its feet and jumped aside. "Wow! So that's the kind of move a gym beating winner fights with." Supporting his chin with his hand, the youngster thought hard. He had taken on Falkner more times than he could count and had lost each and every challenge. A lot of the time it was due to the fact he had a very simple grasp of move effectiveness but he was pretty sure what he would order would work on Ratz. "I never seem to get to use this move as it never hits but... No harm in trying! Wooper, Mud Shot!" Nodding, the little creature look a little green around the gills before it coughed up what could only be described as a hurl of muddy looking mucus. Flying through the air, it crashed aplomb against Ratz, leaving the rodent muddy and looking a little less agile than before. Blinking unbelievably, Gordon cried out. "Woah! It hit!"

Ethan was tkaen by surprise by the kid's excitement, as something simple as watching a gym battle would excite him. Perhaps that for someone like him, where he's at the age where he had his own quest to develop a career, being excited by a stranger's battle would not be the first few things on his mind. He replied when the idea swimmingly went well, "Well, now how do we keep in touch when I do have the gym battle? Because I will likely just walk into the gym like I did with the Violet Gym. I would have to give you some notice before I walk in, right? Like an appointment? And can you go to Azalea by yourself if you haven't defeat Falkner?"

As the battle resumed, he was just a bit startled by the kid's naive response. He politely responded and continued his next move, "Oh no, that Bite is just the move a Rattata has. They have sharp teeth for a reason, right? I think if you look around there should be some. Hopefully you will encounter one after this fight. Alright Ratz, go for a Bite again!"

The Rattata squeaked and readily ran toward the blue salamander, making a run as he hasn't battle in a while.

His eyes blinking, it appeared the youngster was all too blind sided by the idea of watching this up and coming star battle in another gym challenge that he had totally forgotten about the finer details such as travelling and how exactly they were going to keep in touch. Gulping, a slight look of panic appeared over Gordon's face but thankfully, he was a quick thinker and quashed the problem that he been presented to him. "Oh! Uh! That's easy! You have to have a PokeGear right? All the cool kids have one these days." Lifting up his wrist, he pointed to a watch looking device that could actually flip into something not all too dissimilar from that of a mobile phone. "After this battle i'll give you my number and we can call each other! That way you can let me know when you're thinking of taking on Bugsy." Despite having presented a PokeGeat there were a number of other foreign based alternatives that were on the market. C-Gear, Poketch... Surely something Ethan would have access to. The only quandary that Ethan presented didn't appear to be too much of an issue. "Huh? Travelling? I'll just get my parents to help me travel there. I've been telling them about you and how you defeated Falkner with no trouble at all so i'm sure they'll wanna see history in the making too!" Despite his words, it was likely the kid's sheer pester power was at work there.

Clearly taken by the idea of Ethan's advice, Gordon excitedly punched the air and had a quick look on the spot despite being in the middle of a battle. "Awww cool! If you've caught one, i'll definitely go out and capture one of my own. I'll have a look right after this battle and once I do, i'll capture it and i'll show you it the next time we meet!" Getting carried away again, it was a good thing Ethan hadn't forgotten they were mid battle. As he ordered another move to continue on the fight, Gordon gripped his cap and struggled to come up with a move. "Awww shucks... My pa is always telling me to use Mud Shot as it's the strongest move I have. I'll go for that again." With both Pokemon commanded, the battle itself ensued. Darting off with a spree, Ratz was still the faster Pokemon and it wasted no time at all in avoiding the previous pile of mud it had been hit with and proceeding onto its opponent. Using its impressive teeth, it bit down fiercely with a text book bite, causing the Wooper to sound off with a cry of discomfort. Struggling to get the tenacious rat off, the Wooper instead decided to use the close proximity of the Rattata against it. Its stomach gurgling, the Pokemon began heaving against and let out at point blank range a powerful mud shot. Covered from head to toe in this mucus like horrible ground attack, Ratz finally backed off, although he definitely looked a lot worse for wear given how close that attack was. "Woah... Is my Wooper actually pulling through today?!" Clearly not used to getting an advantage, Gordon didn't quite know how to react.

Ethan looked at the kid's phone, how did the child get one and not him? Oh right, he didn't plan out his journeying thoroughly as he thought only food and his laptop and his Pokemon would suffice, and plus, Pokemon Center have phone service. He smiled awkwardly to cover up and said, "That's great!... I don't have a Pokegear, but I'll call you when I reach Azalea, which by then hopefully I am ready to take on Bugsy. Then it should maybe take you a day or two to get there?"

Then, resuming his mind back into the battle, Ethan looked with concern as the Wooper was more in-shape than his Rattata. "Your Pa is right about the Mud Shot. Just make sure you don't use it on a flying type Pokemon and you should be fine. Although I hope you don't mind me switching out because I don't want to see my Rattata faint," Ethan replied, taken by surprise that the Wooper was actually surprisingly strong compared to his Ratz.

"Return, Ratz," he held out a Pokeball to return the close to fainting Rattata, and then tossed another ball out. "Go, Dynner! Use-- OUCH!" Out from the ball, a giddy Charmander appeared, and readily poked his trainer with the lizard's sharp claw. It was just a poke on the legs, but the sharpness was good enough to induce some pain.

"Ou-- use Scratch on the Wooper!" Ethan yelled painfully as the impish Charmander's claws were enough to torment him.

Youngster Gordon eagerly waited for Ethan to finish speaking before he spoke again. " Sounds good I am super excited to hear from you so I can watch your next battle. My folks will be glad to watch as well it if ends up being anywhere near as amazing as your battle with Falkner. They do not get to watch good battles very often so I think they will enjoy coming to see you as well." As the young boy finished speaking his Wooper looked at him like he was an idiot for not paying attention to the battle.

Before turning his attention back to the battle the young lad wanted to thank Ethan for his advice. " That is very good to know. I already believed Pa about it being a strong attack but I will have to remember that if I ever run into a flying type. I welcome you to switch Pokemon but if I recall the rules correctly I get a free move if you do so." As Ethan replaced his Rattata with his Charmander the young boy thought of what move he should use on the new Pokemon. He had never fought a Charmander before so he was at a loss. " I do not know what to do here Wooper so try a Tail Whip attack and let's see if that helps."

Wooper ran forwards and whacked the Charmander with it's tail a few times lowering it's defense. As the fire type recovered it was time for Dynner to attack. He ran forwards and Scratched the Wooper across the face with his sharp claws. Wooper covered it's face for a moment as a reaction to the attack before it recovered enough to wait on Gordon's orders. " That Charmander has some mighty fine claws if I do say so myself. Alright Wooper lets try our best and use Mud Shot again." The small water type then gathered mud in it's mouth before coughing it up. The mud landed directly on Dynner's legs slowing him down while also doing decent damage especially coming from a Wooper.

" Gee wiz this battle has been fun. It looks like it is pretty close now as well. I cannot wait to see what you have in store for the next round. I really hope it is something special like a preview to your plans in your next gym battle. Are you ready for the next round my friend?" The young man said as he waited to see what Ethan would do next.

"Well then, maybe next time I'm in the gym against Bugsy, hopefully you'll catch a Rattata by then," Ethan smiled as the deal about the upcoming weeks seemed to be sealed. The only thing left was for him to train his Pokemon.

After switching the Rattata to his Charmander, Ethan watched quietly to examine the current battle. He replied politely, smiling, "Yup! This is actually funner than the pressure a gym leader gives you! Though I'm sorry that I won't be using Dynner in a bug gym as it would be too easy. And I don't think I will be using Ratz either. So the next move would just be training him. Alright Dynner, Scratch again!"

Though Ethan wasn't sure if the kid knew that he was using a clearly type-disadvantaged Pokemon. Was he just dumb to use the Tail Whip or was he using the move to trick him?

Ooc: The funny thing is even with it's speed reduced by half in the next round Dynner still outruns Wooper.

As another round was about to get underway Gordon was really eager to capture a Rattata so that he would finally have one and there would not be anything to stop him from watching Ethan's next gym battle if he managed to capture one. The young boy had been impressed by Ethan so far and was a bit saddened by the news that Ethan was not going to use Ratz or Dynner in his gym battle but at the same time was glad that he was helping Ethan train his Pokemon so he could get ready for the next gym. The young boy smiled as he looked over at his Wooper before he began to talk.

" Aw shucks I was hoping to see what Dynner could do in the next gym as well as Ratz but I still do want to watch regardless of which Pokemon you use. It ought to be a rip roaring good show I reckon." He said as Wooper smiled in agreement. Wooper saw Ethan and his Pokemon as a wonderful way to learn how to fight better and so far it seemed to be paying off as Dynner seemed to be having a bit of a hard time with it so far. Wooper was quite excited to see what Gordon wanted to do next as well as Ethan and it did not have to wait long to find out.

Before the young boy could give an order Dynner ran towards Wooper as fast as he could. He extended his claws and used a powerful Scratch attack across the small Pokemon's belly before calmly walking away. Wooper was rather slow to get back up but it managed to do so after struggling. Gordon was worried for his Pokemon but he still thought there was still a chance he could win the battle. " Are you OK Wooper you took quite a good hit there? I can feel it in my gut were are close to winning this. You just have to hang on a bit longer." He said as Wooper looked at him as if it were still desperate to prove itself.

Upon seeing his Pokemon standing as straight as it could Gordon knew this battle would not last much longer. One more hit like that and it was over but at the same time Dynner was looking a bit tired as well so the boy hoped that Wooper's next attack would end the battle. " Alright Wooper let's end this with a Mud Shot." As Wooper hurled another chunk of mud at Dynner the fire type became covered in a thick pile of mud lowering his speed even more. He was still standing however and that meant there would have to be at least one more round.

"Well, I don't think it hurts to train, or play, or have fun with Pokemon that you may or may not plan to use in the next gym battle. Sometimes, a Pokemon battle is just to have fun, right? And it would be fair for the other Pokemon to have some fun too," Ethan replied, making a point that not all Pokemon battles are about preparing a gym battle or a gym battle itself.

He then added an encouragement to the kid, stating, "Your Wooper is quite impressive though, that you made me have to switch out from my Rattata. If you do catch a Rattata or another Pokemon and then train them a bit, I'm sure you can defeat Falkner."

"Alright, looks like this will be the last round. Dynner, use Scratch and give it your best even though I sent you to battle a water and ground type! Show the Wooper how painful your claws are," the young trainer ordered, and also passive aggressively remind his Pokemon that, those claws are quite sharp and painful.

Youngster Gordon was a bit disappointed that Wooper could not knock out Ethan's Charmander with it's last attack. The young lad knew that Wooper was not very fast and even with Charmander's speed greatly reduced he did not think Wooper would be able to outpace the fire type. The young boy thought he had done everything right but even that did not seem to be enough as the next hit would likely knock his Wooper out. He did agree with Ethan that Pokemon battles were supposed to be fun and this battle had certainly been quite fun for the young lad he just wished he could have won.

" Aw shucks I have to admit this battle has been really fun and a really nice challenge as well. Maybe a bit too challenging for me and Wooper but it is still something we can learn from. I really wish I had another Pokemon so this battle could last a bit longer but I know someday I will catch a Rattata of my own and I will be one step closer to being ready to face Falkner." The young boy said with a smile. He did not mind losing too much to such a nice trainer but the young lad knew it would have been a bit more helpful to Wooper if they could have won this battle which was unlikely at this point.

He was quite pleased to hear that Ethan thought his Wooper was impressive. Not many trainers would have shown much respect to the losing side this early in a trainers journey so this was a rather nice sign of sportsmanship that the young lad appreciated. He really hoped he could raise Wooper into a Quagsire one day so he could have a fitting rematch with Ethan. " Thank you not many people would be so kind to such a young trainer and Pokemon such as me and Wooper. One day I hope to raise her into a Quagsire and maybe we can have a rematch someday." He said before Dynner ran towards Wooper and Scratched it's face knocking it out.

Seeing Wooper hit the ground the young boy knew he had been bested. " Wooper you did your best you have earned a rest." He said before he walked over to Ethan. He was quite grateful to have met such a kind trainer and wanted to give him some kind of reward. for winning the battle. He reached into his pocket and handed Ethan 160 Poke as prize money. " I have to take Wooper to a Pokemon Center to get her healed but I look forward to watching you fight Bugsy." The young lad said as he slowly walked off to get his Pokemon treatment

Dynner fought well and gained 2 levels. He is now level 17. He also gained +1 happiness and has +2 happiness overall. He is trying to learn Dragon Rage but he can only know 4 moves. Would you like him to forget a move to learn Dragon Rage?


Ratz fought well and gained 1 level. He gained +1 level and is now level 14. He also gained +1 happiness and has +2 overall.

Ethan listened attentively to the youngster's words, smiling that this battle had been fun for both of them. He grinned as he responded, "Hey, remember that your Wooper was the tough one for me to switch out first. I wish you best of luck to catch a Rattata as well. Or maybe another Pokemon that you would like to raise. The more Pokemon you have, the longer you could take the battle." He nodded subtly to himself, that traveling with Pokemon you like was a very good reason to capture a Pokemon.

"You welcome. Hopefully next time we battle your Wooper would be even tougher for me! Ha," Ethan replied quickly, and then watched the battle unfold. He was a bit tense for sending out his Charmander on a double disadvantaged Pokemon, but that risk was worth it! As the boy was leaving, Ethan waved and shouted that he will remember to contact the boy when he's about to have a gym battle.

After the boy left, it didn't take too long for his starter to glow white. Dynner was evolving! he gasped and thought as he realized this. His Charmander was evolving to be a... Charmeleon! Ethan let the newly evolved fire type examined himself, just as Ethan catches a few more glimpses of his fire type before congratulating and thanking Dynner's help for this battle and returning him. He was elated that he witnessed his first evolution, too bad that he wasn't going to be using his Charmeleon on the next gym.

Ethan energetically brisk walked toward the Union Cave, and after walking a bit, he slowed down because he thought he saw a red-haired person in front of him. He didn't exactly have a good memory of a certain redhead, especially if the person in front of him was that trainer. Though with his Charmander evolved, maybe he could let his improved starter fight that Totodile.

Approaching ever closer, the reminiscent figure that Ethan could see off in the distance was no doubt someone from Ethan's past in the region of Johto. The young male's distinctive bright red hair and blue jacket and scornful look on his face were belonging to that of someone Ethan had actually bumped into from somewhere much earlier on his journey. Before the realisation could sink in as to whom it was, it seemed that in his hand was a Pokeball. Holding it sternly, he watched as he shouted off a number of indistinct orders. Reeling in closer, it seemed he had a Pokemon out which was taking on what appeared to be a tubby yellow monster. With his shaded Pokemon easily claiming victory, he recalled it and turned on the spot having felt another presence. "Hmph! You just had to show your face at this time didn't you? I remember you. Don't think I forgot so easily that one time in New Bark." Leering his eyes as he dropped the unconscious body from his grip, the male stood up and folded his arms as his sardonic gaze bored into Ethan's very being. "That so called victory you won... Well, i've had a lot of time to reflect on it. If you ask me, I don't quite think your 'win' applies. It was more of a technicality that you managed to get lucky."

Sneering, he seemed to spit on the floor. With the male's auburn brown eyes staring at Ethan's own dark black eyes, it was as if hostile sparks could go flying off at any minute. "I was hear to power up my Pokemon after the pitiable display that lame gym leader put up back in Violet. But I can more than spend a minute or two to pay you back. Don't think you can win this time around. I'll dispose of you just like I did that Makuhita." Falling silent just as he lifted up the Pokeball he had just used from the battle prior, he snarled at Ethan. "You do remember me don't you?! HMPH! Zubat! Let's teach this loser what it means to be the best!" There was no turning back or running from the teen now, and the young trainer just needed to embrace this upcoming battle and defeat this redhead again, for the rematch that he had wanted.

"Dispose? Calm down. Who do you think you are? Crime lord?" Ethan retaliated with his own response, how could such a trainer like him use that kind of word? He huffed up his chest and responded with no hesitation, "Of course I remember your snarky attitude! Do you act this way just so people could remember your horrible personality? You have some bad personality to go with that hair."

"Congratulations on your gym victory, but you're not the best yet," in heat of moment, he added as he got ready for battle. "Wavy, use Charm on the Zubat!"

He tossed out the Pokeball to reveal a cute, baby Pokemon. "You better be ready because I kind of expect to bump into you again." He simply flat out accepted Silver's challenge, as there was some tension between the two already.
