Your Words in my Head
Knives in my Heart
Perhaps Berry had not been watching as carefully as she should have, but the flashing navigations on screen had caught her attention, and she couldn’t help but watch coordinates flicker on and off of the Pokenav’s screen, it was much more interesting than trying to keep track of the stupid mutt that was bobbing in and out of the tall grass. In fact, how was she supposed to keep Hotaru out of trouble anyway? That mutt never stopped for anyone and Berry considered herself no exception. So instead her eyes remained on what Sandy was doing, though unfortunately the peace would not last for long.
There was a yip that drew their attention as Hotaru came barreling out of the tall grasses with an angry looking lady Nidorino on her tail. Literally. Sandy cast a look at Berry, who offered a shrug in response. <<Sorry.>> But Sandy didn’t waste time as the frightened pooch rounded her legs and hid behind her. “Cut her off, Darryl!” she called as she tossed a Pokeball into the air, the mustard-colored shrew appearing within the Nidorino’s path and effectively cutting her off from Hotaru.
Berry looked to Hotaru with a huff. <<Can you keep your nose out of things for just a minute?>> Berry chided, Hotaru’s tongue lolling from her mouth again. <<That was a minute!>> and technically, she was right, having been at least a whole minute before she had come bursting through the underbrush. “Alright Darryl, Eathquake!” Hearing the command, Hotaru braced herself. She always hated this move of Darryl’s but it was usually effective.

Choosing an effective counter to the rampaging Nidorina that was getting riled up, Sandy's trusty Darryl appeared in a flash. Right in the path of the Nidorina, it caused the vexed female to skid to a halt as it noted the presence of a new threat to its territory. Letting out a low sounding growl as she continued to score her claws along the ground, it seemed like she wouldn't back off but rather take on Darryl instead. Slowly lumbering from side to side, the Nidorina wasn't too sure of what this Sandslash was capable of but it could tell the Pokemon had a confidence about it that was lacking in other Pokemon. If she wanted to defend herself, she was going to have to give this fight her all. Launching forward with both of her arms raised, ready to strike with a powerful attack, Sandy's order would sound just in the nick of time. Commanding Darryl to use an Earthquake, it seemed like a quick and easy way of finishing off this creature. Acknowledging it, the shrew went launching up into the air before curling into a spiky ball. Coming down with an almighty crash, it set off a trigger deep down in the earth below, shifting the tectonic plates to quake at Darryl's masterful blow. Shaking furiously, it wasn't long before a stretch of earth went flying upwards in response to the terrible quaking. Smacking the Nidorina right in the chops as it jumped into the shifting ground, the Pokemon let out a high pitched yelp as it went flying backwards and disappeared into some shrubbery. That was definitely a crisis averted. Wild Battle

Sandy sighed in relief. She didn't know why the Nidorina had been so hostile, but at least Darryl had quickly fixed the situation. She crouched down as Darryl came back to her, gently stroking the top of her head. "Good girl, you've gotten really strong you know." she said with a soft smile, and Darryl gave her a putt of agreement. Her Sandslash had come a long way from when Andrew had first given her to him.
Ready to go now, she stood up and held out Darryl's Pokeball, telling her to return as the red light shot from the ball and returned her to the small sphere before Sandy placed it back with the others. She continued down the path, wondering what else they were going to encounter today with Hotaru and Berry following close behind her.

Though short, the encounter had had quite the impact on the participants' surroundings. The earthquake made the entire route tremble, setting off a few bunches of birds shooting into the sky and signalling for ground runners to skirt off through the trees. With the nidorina defeated the route was left much quieter than it had been at the start of the morning. But it wasn't void of activity either. Just as the quake had scared off pokémon, it also drew in a brave few. Whether it be to protect what was theirs or mere curiosity couldn't be said. All Sandy would know for sure is the rush of tall grass parting off to her side as she traveled further into the route. A soft red coat with black accents and bushy cream tufts were a stark contrast to the lush greens. The canine slowed, looking up at the trainer with its onyx eyes; bold and dark. Soon it's attention dropped down to Hotaru. After a couple twitches of its button nose Growlithe hunched down and barked. It's throat rumbled with a playful growl. A wild Growlithe (LV 26) challenges Sandy!

Hotaru's tail wagged as the playful canine suddenly appeared from the bushes and Sandy smiled softly at Hotaru as she squared up to the other canine, bouncing on her paws and happy enough to see a fellow creature. The Earthquake was a large one, but this dog wanted to play! Berry had other ideas however. It was looking for a challenge, wasn't it? Maybe it was acting like a simple minded, playful canine, but it wanted a fight.
<<"Look, dog, it wants to fight you. We're here to train, we don't have time for playing.">> Berry said, Hotaru stopping to lift an ear at Berry's words. One ear dropped in curiosity. <<"What do you mean?">> she asked, looking from the dog to the turtle that was sitting on her back. <<"Just watch.">> she hopped onto Hotaru's head at that, and the dog squished one eye shut as she did so.
"Berry, what are you--" the blonde didn't have time to finish her sentence as Berry let loose a blast of water that headed for the creature in front of them. "Berry! That's....a little bit of overkill don't you think?" Sandy asked sheepishly as she watched to see whether the attack would hit the dog.

The Growlithe jumped from side to side still waiting for the games to start. Well that was til it notice Berry the Squirtle move forward. Quickly back up and showing it's fangs, in aggression before jumping forward. Fire grew into the dogs mouth before biting down Berries arm knowing that the shell is a bad place to bite.
Berry was already set to attack after all the little turtle didn't want to play, it was ready to train. It let out shock wave of water hitting the growlithe. While it was a super effective move the growlithe shock off most of the water and stood there ready to launch it's next attack. Battle

Sandy watched as the Growlithe was soaked by Berry's attack, Berry grunting in a little pain and annoyance as the Pokemon clamped down onto her. Her arm looked like it had a small indent where the teeth had been. "Berry, are you okay?" she asked, to which the Pokemon nodded steadily. <<What me? It's going to have to do better than that!>> she promised. From the Squirtle's tone, Sandy could tell she was fine, and so the battle was ready to carry onwards.
"Alright Berry, another Water Pulse!" The command didn't go unheard, and Berry sucked in a breath before unleashing another stream of water. Hotaru looked on from beside Sandy, tail wagging softly as she watched her fellow team member work. She wasn't that used to training, since she had been living at Sandy's home while they took on bigger challenges, but she was starting to get the idea about how it worked as she watched the other Pokemon battle.

Any Pokemon, person, or living thing in general could see the rapport that Sandy had with her little Squirtle. Berry was definitely a great companion to blonde-haired hero, the two were inseparable. Growlithe thought that perhaps it could stand a chance, being that the turtle was still in its first evolution and all, but it would come to terms with the reality that Sandy wasn’t about to let Berry faint anytime soon. It also didn’t help that the water Pokemon had an obvious advantage over the fire pupper, a famous rivalry in the elemental realm. All Pokemon knew that fire and water Pokemon were quite the rivals.
The dog Pokemon barked ferociously at the water starter, these wild hounds were known for the wariness of mankind and were famous for their move “roar” which helped them escape from battle in a pinch. Growlithe, undomesticated, went in for a Take Down attack! Berry was ready though, as she held the eviolite, an item suitable from unevolved Pokemon! In return, she blasted that hound with another mighty Water Pulse, soaking the pooch even more! At this point, the Growlithe wasn’t looking too good, perhaps now would be a good time to throw a ball in an attempt to capture it! Battle

((Mod note: not sure how Mid only got 18 damage from the first Water Pulse, as when I calculated it, it came to at least 44.))

Berry’s attack certainly packed quite the punch on that puppy Pokemon! The Growlithe was nearly blacked out, exhausted from battle. Its once fiery breath was now dulled and muted, and any chance to run away was now out of the question as it wouldn’t make it far. What would its fate be? Scavenged apart by the vultures that roam the sky? Growlithe knew those pesky birds would love to have a warm dog for their dinner, picking on him like a childhood playground full of bullies.
Berry’s water type attacks proved quite fruitful in the wake of battle, in fact it ensured a very good chance of capture for their wild hound. As the Growlithe was about to fall over, a blue ball was thrown its way. Oh? What’s this? Usually Growlithe had ran away by now, or had defeated its enemy in battle. This mechanism was quite foreign to it, but there was no time to contemplate its usage. The ball knocked the puppy on the head and swallowed it whole, consuming the fire Pokemon in one big gulp. With little to no fight left, the Growlithe barely stood a chance. Ding! The great ball had done its job and captured the Pokemon successfully.
Berry gained 1300 exp! Hooray! The battle was over now, and Berry had done quitea good job at taking control of the battle effectively. Hotaru wagged her tail gently. <<Wow Berry, you were great!>> She said as she bounded out to the other Pokemon. Berry nodded. <<I don't know what else you expected when I'm up against a fire type.>> Sandy felt her clothes shifting against her body as Berry clambered back up onto her shoulder, and she smiled softly, giving Berry a pat on the Shell as Hotaru brought her the Pokeball. "Great Job Berry."
<<Like you had any doubts.>> Berry joked, patting Sandy's shoulder with a paw. "So, you know how it's done now, don't you Hotaru?" She asked the Wolf Pokemon with a gentle tone, causing the dog to raise her ears. Sandy was coming to learn that Hotaru was more keen on playing with things than she was with fighting them, but she would really prove to be one of the Team's best assets in the next gym, and because of that, it would be beneficial for them to train.
Of course, that wasn't to say Sandy would simply make her Pokemon fight in spite of their own feelings, but she had a feeling Hotaru wasn't exactly opposed to fighting either. In fact one of the only Pokemon she owned that didn't like to fight that much, was PenPen, and the monkey was back in Newbark town, enjoying her days playing with the local children. "Alright you two, let's move on, we've got a full day ahead of us." Sandy said, motioning for her Mighyena to follow as they made their way to a different Route.

Shortly after arriving on route 38 Sandy was stopped dead in her tracks by the sound of a loud roar in the distance along with the sound of hooves hitting the ground in rapid succession. The sound was approaching very fast and it was not long before a very large Pokemon came into the view of her Pokemon. The large yellow and brown Pokemon stopped just a few feet away from Sandy as it looked at her and her Pokemon and snorted angrily. Being a Pokemon known for its aggression Tauros was not a Pokemon to be trifled with and this one was no exception. The angry look in its eyes gave Sandy's Pokemon no doubt as to its intentions as it swiped its hooves on the ground ready to charge again. Sandy had been unlucky enough to venture into the territory it claimed ownership of and it was not going to let her walk around on its land so long as it had a say and a battle was the only way it was going to be calmed down enough to allow her to do so. There was the option to try and run away from it however given its size and speed that might now be the best option under the current circumstances. No matter what she chose to do Tauros was not going to be very happy though it had no control over how she would handle the situation. All it could do was hold its ground and make sure she did not go down the current path any further. A wild Tauros( Level 20) appeared. Would you like to battle or run?

Berry looked down at Hotaru, who had been acting a bit strangely ever since they had stepped foot onto this particular road, and she tapped Sandy's shoulder a few times. Sandy turned her head to the Squirtle, who pointed the distressed looking wolf out to her. "Hotaru, are you okay?" Sandy asked with a bit of concern. The Mightyena lowered her ears with a soft whine. <<I keep hearing something...it seems far off but-->> Her attempted explanation was cut off with a growl, and she lowered her ears when she noticed it had spooked Sandy slightly.
<<What?>> Berry asked, and Hotaru suddenly hopped in front of Sandy, just in time for a Tauros to appear in their view. "Oh...uh...we aren't here to cause trouble..." Sandy tried to assure the Tauros, though it didn't seem to be of any use. It was angry and there didn't seem to be any changing it. Her Mightyena was about to launch into an attack, but Sandy stopped her. "Hotaru, no, come back!" she commanded, the dog stopping in her tracks and looking back to Sandy in question.
"I'm worried you're going to get seriously hurt, let someone else take care of this." she said, knowing one of her Pokemon with a long ranged attack might end up getting this done easier. "Darryl!" she called, tossing a Pokeball and summoning the shrew who appeared in front of Hotaru. "Earthquake!" she commanded as Hotaru jumped back towards Sandy's side.

The angry Tauros snort angrily as the dog Pokemon challenged it to a fight. This was its fight, it was not going to let this trainer take its land. Tauros bowed it head and dragged it hoof in the sand wanting to charge towards Hortaru. Hortaru got read to leap into fight, just before she got spring into action she was called back. Daryyl was sent out.
Daryyl let out a big yawn, she was having a nice nap in her Pokeball. Her eyes were opening to see the Tauros charging towards her. Tauros got off a succefull horn attack as its horn grazed Darryls hard flesh while it did hardly any damage, the tackle Darryl got after was sure to wake Darryl open.
Darryl now fully awake, clapped her hands together and drove it into the ground. Listening to her trainer as using earthquake as the ground split and shook. The Tauros yelped in pain before flopping on the floor with pain. Darryl got a critical and fainted the angry Tauros. At least Sandy was safe now.
Darryl fought well in battle. Darryl gained 1,000exp making them 1,000/1951 and +1 happiness. Hotaru fought well in battle. Hotaru gained 1 level making them level 24 +1 happiness Is trying to learn Assurance forget a move to learn?

Maybe the attack was a little too strong, because one shake of the earth later, the Tauros was down on the floor, writhing in pain. "Oh, uh...good Job Darryl I..." she didn't know if she should approach the Pokemon, but she finally did, kneeling down beside it to make sure it would be alright. But for fear of more Tauros planning to exact revenge, she decided against staying too long and instead signaled Hotaru they were moving on as she recalled Darryl.
