Name: Darek Aeolian, son of Sakersha
Age: 22
Gender: Male
Trainer Type: Darek is a ranger at heart, and sets his goals most directly there and with the IPF
Hometown: Nixtorm, Ransei Region
Appearance: Darek has rugged but gentle features. His jaw is square and firm, but softened on the edges, and his grinning mouth is stern sometimes, but never harsh. His solid eyebrows are finely built, arching slightly in an easy curve. His eyes have a subtle slant to them, his irises are colored a very vibrant, deep, sparkling emerald, and his eyelashes are a bit longer and with a smooth curl to them. His bangs have a tendency to fall just over or above his eyes, and his rugged brown head of hair sweeps to the right, mostly short in length save for a couple of small braids behind his right ear that are perhaps a little longer.
Darek has relatively pale skin, even with his exposure to the sun it has only developed a very subtle layering of tan. Build wise, one might call him wiry and lithe, though perhaps that would be a little generous. He's not very strong at all, and actually somewhat frail. Certainly, he's not horribly thin, though perhaps still a little below average, and he stands at a good six foot and an inch or so. He's definitely leaner and stronger than he was during most of his teenage years, but even now he is still physically on the weak side.
Darek doesn't keep to much to one specific outfit, though his wardrobe is only as big as the next guy's. Casually he keeps to long sleeved shirts and a brown furred vest in colder climates, and simple long pants and sturdy shoes. On anything more pressing though he wears leather, finely crafted by himself, complete with a cloak in cold weather, and in formal cases he wears a suitable suit, with a scarf in chilly areas.
Personality: Darek is rough and rather laid back on the exterior, laughing things off with a dry humor and perhaps a little too much sarcasm for his own well-being. Whenever made awkward or embarrassed, his first reaction is to try and shrug it off with a light hearted joke, sometimes rather unfortunately. Truth be told, he is a bit shy and at odds with people, even at times with close friends, finding more peace in solace than company, though he is far from antisocial. He simply has a hard time in his past connecting with those around him, and that has left him with some inner doubts and conflictions.
The irony perhaps is that while uncomfortable with direct interaction, when put in a position of leadership or authority, Darek proves quite adept, and can take charge efficiently and swiftly. He is a natural leader with an intelligent mind, and off a social basis he can prove to be sometimes surprisingly serious, with a strong will and dedication to those causes he believes in. He has a creative and sharp mind, and with an iron resolve to back it, he will try to accomplish almost anything. Especially if it means helping others and proving his worth to everyone and himself. Humbly though, as it is more the gratification he seeks than the reward, and he has a deeply ingrained sense of honor, one that leads him to prefer to avoid the spotlight. He simply wishes to work hard and be a good person who is something.
Unfortunately, that applies to everything. This is most evidenced in his difficulty following other's orders. When faced with a problem he is determined to solve, he will stop at just about nothing, and very little amount of persuading can stop him. At the core he is bold, and bull headed, and more than willing to do something stupid if it would help. And even more so if he believes he might somehow demonstrate his value and being in the process, or that he can truly do good.
Darek's rather disappointing childhood and teenage years have left him more than just stubborn and socially estranged. It has also left him still with a few lingering feelings of inadequacy that even his years in Sinnoh couldn't fully wear away, and a need to prove himself. He has at least managed to get away from the idea of being what is expected of him, but he still feels a need to be heard, to be good for something, not just a burden. One thing that he has realized to himself though is his hatred for war. Fighting leads to pain and strife, and reminds him all too clearly of his own war ravaged land. Survival should not depend on being strong, and everyone should deserve a chance to excel in their own way. Some people, are just different, and Darek is very open minded about that, which coupled with his own inner doubts, makes him perhaps a little too trusting of strangers with nice faces, and all too vulnerable, something he hates but is time and time again victim too.
History: Darek was born the son to a fearsome war leader in an aggressive region. Seven Kingdoms were separated and constantly at odds within the expansive region of Ransei, and Darek and his family were at the head of Nixtorm, the sixth kingdom, known especially for it's cold and unforgiving harsh climates. Each kingdom had some sort of bone to pick with any number of the others, and while the region was friendly to other neighboring regions, within it was a fierce game of power and control. The way of survival was to grow stronger than the rest and defeat them all. Trainers were expected to do battle with others, pitting themselves and their teams against their foes until only the strongest were left. Levels and strength were all that mattered, the cunning and strategy used in battles, the tactical power of a leader. His father was prided for being a fearsome warrior, and a mighty trainer, bearing a team of strictly trained and doggedly obedient pokemon, whipped into the finest shape and fighting force. Among his family, the arts of war was their life, and only the greatest fighters rose up and were glorious. The highest expectations were placed on him, being the son of such a fearsome warrior, a family and lineage of fighters and leaders.
You can imagine then the disappointment then when he was a frail runt. Even when he was teenager, he could barely hold his weapons, never mind fight with them. He grew to have no self confidence, and spent his time constantly trying to prove himself to his family, his father, everyone. They all doubted him, picked on him, pushed him down. Whatever he tried to do failed. He would go against orders just to try and show himself as of some sort of value, and in the end only cause more problems. And with his lack of confidence and his growing social awkwardness, he had a hard time giving orders. And trying to train the pokemon of the household was even worse. Whenever he looked in their eyes, he just saw aggression and deadness. It was like they had lost any sense of soul and simply become beasts of war.
Finally it came that Darek had to leave. For himself. For everyone else. Taking a ship to another region, he spent many years in Sinnoh, traveling the harsh terrain and mountains. The solitude did him good, and his stays in Snowpoint slowly helped build his confidence. Away from all the expectations of his past life, he started to trust in himself a bit more. He lived on his own, supported himself, and started to become a bit stronger, in a multitude of ways. He slowly went from scrawny and short to tall and at least decently nimble and athletic, if still not very outright strong. Time played a big part in this change, but away from his family and the aggressive nature of the entire region of Ransei, he was able to live on his own, and just have peace. The quiet built his peace of mind, and through his calm his confidence slowly rebuilt itself.
Darek began to enjoy the company of pokemon and others again, away from the stress of dealing with those from his old life. He became easygoing and friendly when dealing with others, even if he never really fully overcame his awkwardness. And he grew bolder, his own character developing now that he could realize himself without the pressure of others on him. Here he was just another windblown traveler who find himself in the snowy city in the mountains.
Finally, taking a tip from someone he had become good acquaintances with, he scraped together the money to travel again, this time with a different purpose in mind. Vanishing as suddenly as he had arrived, Darek purchased passage on a cruiser making way towards Jhoto. He had grown into a man, and now it was time he proved himself one. He didn't have to be the warrior that they had expected him to always be, but he could still be strong. In his own way.
Goals: To fully find himself and prove himself right in his own mind and to everyone else.
Other Info: Frail constitution, resistant to the cold but uncomfortable in the heat.
