Penelope was soooo happy today! She was finally a Pokemon trainer at the age of fifteen! With two Pokeballs by her belt, a Bunnelby from her parents and also a Scatterbug from her organizational activities, she had finally been allowed to be a trainer like many others that she saw! Making her way to New Bark Town, alone, she paid a visit to the professor to inform the professor that she was a new trainer. After she had finished her visit, she headed toward Route 29, where a lot of new trainers seemed to also start there.
Although she didn't like the car ride, she was finally glad that she was free to walk and enjoy the outdoor with her new friends. (She had to commute first to New bark Town because her Pokemon would be too weak for her to walk safely all the way from Goldenrod.) Even though she haven't figure out what to call them, but based on the interaction she had before she left Goldenrod City, and some of the playtime back there, she had an idea of what kind of personality the Pokemon have.
Though when she got to New Bark Town, the crackling thunder and hailing weather wasn't what she expected when she arrived to New Bark Town. Thankfully, her backpack have her extra layering clothing for the cooler weather, on the downside that they take up at least 30% of her backpack space. Keeping herself safe from the falling ice drops, the young and cheerful trainer set out to explore whatever that a new trainer was supposed to experience. This bad weather was terrible for a trainer starting out like her, as she couldn't have a first picnic with her two new friends. She'll have to have a make up picnic another time.
OOC: introduce other Pokemon (marill, bellsprout) later. Naming later.

The Pokemon living in the tall grass around New Bark town had been putting up with the terrible weather for far too long now. The storm had come out of nowhere and it did not seem to want to end no matter how they they begged Arceus to make it stop. A little hail here and there was nothing terrible but this storm had become a nightmare for those who called the grass home. There were not many options to try and escape the madness and as such the Pokemon living here were pretty rattled up as Penelope began her journey. They would not put up with much at all and just the mere sight of her walking on the route caused some of them to cry out in anger. None of them were more angry than a Pidgey who had been watching her ever since she had made her way towards the tall grass. The flying type had been getting cracked by the hail for hours now just waiting to take out it's frustration on the next poor trainer to try and start their journey and unfortunately for Penelope she happened to be the first brave trainer to start her journey as of late. The bad weather was the primary reason people were not starting their journey but the aggressive Pokemon angered by the storm was another the other reason as they acted far more aggressive than before. Most of the newer trainers had decided to wait until the storm passed and the wild Pokemon calmed down before heading out but not Penolope. The brave young lady was nearly tackled by Pidgey as it swooped down from a tree. The flying type was itching for a fight. The hail had caused it's anger too build into a uncontrollable rage and a battle was the only way to unleash all of the anger and hatred coursing through it's veins. As the bird waited for Penelope to select a Pokemon it spread out it's wings and cawed trying to show off a bit before the match started hoping to show just how strong it was. A wild Pidgey level 5 challenges you to a battle. Please select a Pokemon.

Just as she thought she would be walking safely in this terrible weather, Penelope heard something flying toward her direction. Luckily, she ducked and now don't have a head injury. Phew! After she resumed from the ducking position, she saw a fidgety and upset Pidgey, who seemed very much eager to start a battle with her.
She couldn't believe it! It would be her first battle, right here in this bad weather! She shouted happily at the Pidgey before selecting her first Pokemon to send into the battle. "Woow! It's a Pidgey! You want a battle? Me too! Come on out, Bunnelby, we have a fight ha! Start a Leer okay!" Her hand pointed toward the Pidgey, and then jumped up and down at her excitement. She was glad to have a battle so soon after exiting Professor Elm's Laboratory.
Tossing a Pokeball, it revealed a brown and gray rabbit, who seemed to be just as energetic as the trainer who called out the creature. The Bunnelby hopped around, happy that it had a battle to fight. Seeing the Pidgey, who was more than ready to fight with its wings spread and such, the Bunnelby got into position and executed a Leer attack.

As the Pidgey stood in it's battle stance, the avian received acceptance on it's invitation to battle. Well, it was more of a demand, anything to release some of this pent up anger from the onslaught of hail stones ruining it's day. The brown bird felt the shards of ice strike at it's body, as it began staring blankly at the girl, who came across all too eager to start a battle. How could she have so much energy in such dire weather? Most would do anything to get out of hail and find some form of shelter but here she was, practically skipping on the spot with glee. Her cheerfulness rubbed the Pidgey off the wrong way and this irritation was only heightened by the sight of her just as cheerful Pokemon. A Bunnelby, it wasn't a familiar sight but to the Pidgey, it looked similar to the Sentret which usually swamped the area.
Both Pokemon baring similar speed, it was the Pidgey who couldn't sit around for much longer and ended up attacking first. Or rather, setting up a plan before going full throttle. Perched on the dirt path, the Pidgey kicked at the ground to up heave some dirt and dust before stretching open it's large wings and flapping the dust cloud into the direction of the energetic rabbit. Striking it's eyes, the Bunnelby instinctively raised it's paws, rubbing at the sore and irritable feeling of dust invading it's vision. Line of sight now blurred, this didn't put a damper on the battle as Bunnelby could still see, barely. Finding the brown blur in the shape of the Pidgey's body, Bunnelby leered it's eyes in that general direction. Catching eye contact, the Pidgey felt a shiver run down it's spine but it might've also been the hail which was constantly pelting at them both.

Happily accepting the angry bird's mean challenge to a battle, Penelope and Bunnelby were going to try their best on fighting their first opponent. Both of them were happy with how the first turn had turned out so far. Even with the Pidgey kicking chilly sand up in his eyes, Bunnelby was still optimistic about defeating this feathery opponent, as seen from his uppity squeak and hopping and pointing at the fowl.
"Hey, your kicking was rude! Bunnelby, go for a Tackle!" Penelope hollered, making a comedic frowning face toward the hopping Pidgey. She wasn't exactly happy about her Pokemon having sand kicked in the eyes. Neither does Bunnelby, as he was frowning madly at the Pidgey too. Despite the hailing weather and cool atmosphere, the duo were still energetic enough like they were about to be on air for a comedy series.
With sand in his eyes, Bunnelby was still able to make out where the Pidgey was. Dashing forward, the young bunny charged toward the opponent, hoping to make a hit with his vision slightly and temporarily blurred.

Like the round before Pidgey made the first move despite having equal speed. With it's defense not being as high as it usually was the bird was cautious about it's move choice. If Bunnelby got lucky it could do considerable damage. The rabbit had been partially blinded last time but it could still make out the general outline of it's target. To make sure it could not see anything the flying type chose to give Bunnelby another dose of Sand Attack just in case the rabbit had hopes of getting lucky. Usually it would have been a good idea but this Bunnelby had really good eyes. As a second cloud of dust flew into his eyes Bunnelby could hardly see a thing but that did not stop him from trying to make Pidgey pay for being so sneaky. Hopping forward in a thunderous rage he rammed the bird with the full weight of his body as the Pidgey flew back in pure shock that it had been hit after making Bunnelby go almost completely blind. He was very proud of his accomplishment as not many Pokemon could still score such a well placed hit. His luck had not run out so far but with almost no vision in either of his eyes it was too early to tell if his streak of good fortune would continue. Although the hail was still bad news it was worse for Pidgey who now had suffered from the Tackle attack. Still in a state of disbelief that it's plan had gone up in smoke the bird began to panic. Tackle was it's only other move but even then it would have to hope for some good luck in order to make a comeback in this battle. When the stubborn and annoying Pidgey went to kick sand in his eyes again, the Bunnelby wasn't really happy about this situation. With his vision lowered, the Bunnelby hopped forward hoping to hit the foul hard once more, and hopefully ending this battle. At this point it wasn't the hail that bothered Bunnelby, but the sand-kicking Pidgey that was making this difficult. The Pidgey was ruining his happy atmosphere! The battle could have been a little more... friendlier.
As he was hopping, Penelope was a bit confused about her Pokemon acting on their own, but it might not have been a bad thing. She shouted, gasping in surprise, "What are you doing, Bunnelby? Oh! You must be hopping because it's cold! Are you? Well, go for a Tackle again! Maybe the Pidgey would stop kicking sand!" She pointed at the Pidgey as she spoke, wanting the Pidgey to really know how kicking sand at your opponent might be a bad thing to do. Now, Bunnelby just needed to try to make a hit because he could only see a blur of tan colored thing amidst the green grass and brown soil on the ground.

The onslaught of sand, which was being kicked up by the enraged Pidgey becoming more annoying than the hail itself, had begun to rub the Bunnelby off the wrong way. What they had wanted to be a friendly first battle had been anything but, although it was the Pidgey which was being uncooperative during the whole situation. It had swooped out of nowhere with a bad attitude from the beginning and by this point, it had actually annoyed the Bunnelby somewhat, enough for it to act on his own accord. Vision still blurred and chunks of hail striking against his body, the long eared rabbit was far from giving up despite this handicap.
Using his ears more than his eyes due to the sand, the Bunnelby heard the words of Penelope quite clearly. Given the order to continue with the physical assault, the Pokemon was more than prepared to finish off this rude avian. Shaking his body to shift the shards of ice out of his fur, the Bunnelby noticed that the sound of flapping wings gushed to the side of him. Worried that it was about to cut off the last bits of his vision with another Sand Attack, this time, Bunnelby lunged into action first. Barely spotting the brown blur of the bird's body, the Bunnelby bounced forward a couple of paces before using his ears like a pair of fists to punch at the Pidgey.
The first strike seemed to miss, the Bunnelby landing from his jump with a slight stagger on the ground. But it wouldn't stop there! Curling his top lip with slight irritation, the Pokemon when in for another strike, landing a hit directly into the chest of the Pidgey. Knocking the wind right out of the Pokemon, the avian let out a weak squawk before landing back on the ground with a heavy thump. This Pokemon's Sand Attack days had come to an end, for now!

The annoying battle seemed to finally had come to an end, as the temporarily slightly blinded Bunnelby had successfully pulled off a Tackle attack that finished this battle. The moment of victory for them was an INCREDIBLE feeling! Even though the stormy weather had been a bit chilly, Penelope and had happy-go-around Bunnelby were jumping and hopping and throwing their hands in the air celebrating their first victory! This wasn't hard at all, right?
After their victory freestyle dancing celebrating, Penelope approached the injured Pidgey, kneel down, and offered a gesture to pet the Pidgey. "You did great, Pidgey! Ooh, you're so soft! This was our first battle so I want to thank you! Why don't you go somewhere safe and rest up? Hehee. Thanks for the fun!" After she petted the feathery Pokemon, she waved her hand to say goodbye to the Pidgey as the young fledgling flew away. When the route seemed quiet again, she wondered where to go. The sky also seemed to quiet down, and stopped hailing as well. Though she could still feel a chilly atmosphere in the air.
"Ooh, I think the weather is getting better? Come on out, Scatterbug. It's safe now and you can sit on my head!" The young trainer took this opportunity to sent out her other Pokemon, and invited her bug type to sit on her head as they explored the strange Johto route together, on their way to New Bark Town.

The weather wasn't being the most gentle of phenomenons, causing many Pokemon not necessarily common to this route to flee their dens in search of better places. The swarming Poochyena weren't used to this hail and cold, and many of them were swarming to get to different areas. Perhaps like a migratory 'going south' for warmth? Either way, the occasional bark or howl could be heard despite the weather as many of them ran across the path or in the grass. One in particular watched the trainer pass with intense curiosity. What was this human doing all alone on the path? And with those... those... Pokemon! So the girl was indeed a trainer! Which meant... Poochyena jumped out from the grass it was hidden in, snarling and snapping it's jaws. Saliva dripped from it's maw as it glanced at Penelope's Pokemon hungrily. All this swarming, running, howling and jumping was making Poochyena -very- hungry. It's tail and fur fluffed up to make itself look larger and more intimidating. It was clear this ravenously hungry Poochyena wasn't about to let the trainer pass without a battle. Although, if she handed over her Scatterbug for Poochyena to have a nice meal, a battle would be avoided. Wild -swarming- Poochyena (Level 3) has appeared! Will you fight or flee?

Even though Penelope was an alert type of person, the sudden appearance of the Poochyena took her by surprise. Though to be fair, she was too happy with her first victory, as well as walking, to be paying attention. Unlike when she was camping and actually quiet at night, the situations were different enough that she wasn't alert to sense a Pokemon lurking in the bush. She went from having a big grin on her face to a gasp in 0.5 seconds, and her Bunnelby basically just tripped and felt on the floor from the surprise attack. Lastly, thankfully, Scatterbug held onto Penelope's head the entier time, because otherwise she would fell over too! It was a Poochyena! She wasn't sure if these usually live around here, but she saw one right now, alrrright! However, something felt unwelcoming about the Poochyena, and the young trainer wasn't sure what. "Scatterbug, go down and give the Poochyena Tackle? It looked like it wanted to fight!?" She tiled her head up, as well as rolling her eyes up a little, and instructed the Scatterbug what to do. She thought that this battle would give her Bunnelby a nice, little break. OOC: Coincidentally enough, I was about to train Scatterbug on my second battle on this char. also it looks like she wasn't sure but just have the scatterbug use tackle anyways~ Since the battle hasn't started until the mod post, I hope it's okay that I equip the Silk Scarf I just got onto Bunnelby.

Uncertain of the Poochyena's strange behaviour, Penelope sent forward her Scatterbug to battle for her this time, giving her order rather cautiously. The Poochyena was merely hungry after all the travelling it had done and anything, from the trainer herself to the little bug now presented before it, looked like a tasty little snack for the canine to devour. Lowering it's head with glaring eyes, the dark canine leered at the little Scatterbug, as if warning it to just give up now. But obviously, that wasn't how battles happened. With her tiny little feelers wriggling, the Scatterbug scurried across the grassy plains of the route, moving fearlessly towards the Poochyena. To most, a set of sharp fangs were scary and for something as small as Scatterbug they appeared to look even bigger. Despite this, she still went in for an attack.
As she reached the young pup, the bug pushed herself up from the ground, tackling head first into the hungry Poochyena. Hitting it right in the chin, the Poochyena craned it's head backward and seemed to whimper in pain. The attack had dealt a fair bit of damage. So whilst the Poochyena appeared intimidating, it was nothing more than a soft, little puppy. It's whine turning into more of a growl, the dark Pokemon took a sudden pounce forward, striking the Scatterbug with a fierce jab of it's snout. Rolling backwards, the force had knocked the bug away but she was far from injured. Wriggling herself back onto her feet proudly, the Scatterbug was ready for round two!

Scatterbug wasn't comfortable with the way the Poochyena was looking at her. She felt like the Poochyena wanted to eat her or something. Problem was, she thought the canine-looking Pokemon would look for meat that would be more delicious, like her mate the Bunnelby. Since when do beasts with sharp front teeth look for squishy bugs as a meal? While she don't have bones like the Bunnelby, her bodies were definitely not enough to satiate the hungry Pokemon's, well, hunger. She tiled her head side ways for some seconds during this train of thoughts.
Realizing that the Poochyena did actually wanted to battle, Penelope's smile lit up and began cheering for her young Pokemon. "You did great, Scatterbug! Now go for another Tackle!" She put two hands around her mouth, hollering with enthusiasm of a child, and encouragement of a soccer mom. Well, she's still young to be one. Bunnelby followed the cheering part, jumping up and down casually and shouting "Bunn-el-by!" to cheer his teammates. He got to fought the first battle, now it was his teammate's turn!

An irate snarl escaping the clenched fangs of the Poochyena, as Penelope and Bunnelby began to cheer in support of Scatterbug from the side lines, the hound merely lowered it's head. Crimson eyes still focused on the little bug, it's nose twitched ever so slightly, as the two Pokemon continued their stare off. For the canine, it didn't matter what food was presented before it, whether it was Scatterbug, Bunnelby or Penelope herself. The Poochyena was so hungry that it would eat all three if it had the chance! Though judging from the previous tackle attack from Scatterbug and just how much wind was knocked out of the dark canine's sails, it was unlikely that this beast would be triumphant with a feast for afterwards. For now, it needed to put it's hunger to one side, no matter how desperately starved it felt and focus on defending itself from harm.
Ears pinned down to the back of it's head, the Poochyena stood defensively, hoping that it's intimidating snarls would keep Scatterbug at bay. But the little squishy creature had worked out that despite the canine's size, it wasn't all that strong. In fact, she clearly had the upper hand in this battle, or whatever other appendage would better suit a bug. Wriggling forward once again with her little feelers, the Scatterbug went straight for the Poochyena, this time weaving in between it's front paws quickly and tackling right into the underbelly of the dark hound. Yelping out in pain, the Poochyena struck the Scatterbug with a paw before moving away, almost fearfully. One of it's eyes had closed tightly, likely to deal with the pain it was experiencing. It's body in general was swaying hazardously, as if it were ready to pass out at any moment.

OOC: Using one Pokeball, self update IC: After another Tackle had landed, the battle seemed to show that Scatterbug was on the winning side. The Poochyena opponent was not looking well, like it was going to pass out. Little did Penelope know, her Scatterbug could actually hit hard enough to send a small dog to yelp in pain. However, the Scatterbug wasn't that small either. Not sure what to do with the situation and feeling a bit terrible for the Poochyena, Penelope stared for a good few minutes trying to think what to do next, while the Poochyena was scattering and not attacking yet.
Then, something struck her with an idea. "Oooh, Scatterbug, step back! Pokeball, go!" She called her bug Pokemon, and came up with an idea that could be helpful to this situation. Grabbing an empty Pokeball from her bag, she tossed the capture device toward the opponent. Even though she had no plan for a Poochyena, perhaps she could find the Pokemon a home, like, somebody! Yeah!
