As Ethan made his way towards Goldenrod City a small purple Pokemon darted from the tall grass going from one patch of grass to the next at a high speed closing the gap between itself and Ethan. The small Pokemon was a master of scaring Pokemon by how quickly it could strike as well as being pretty sneaky as it's size allowed it to stay hidden for the longest of time. The small size did have it's drawbacks however among them was it's rather poor endurance which led to it using the tactics it did to keep itself alive in the big city. Being the smallest Pokemon in the area outside of Ditto which could change it's size at will the small purple Pokemon could not use conventional tactics with any reliable hope of staying safe. This particular Rattata had taken great interest in Ethan's Cottonee as it was a Pokemon not seen around these parts likely due to the pollution the city produced which scared most grass types off. Seeing such a strange Pokemon so close to the city caused the small rat to gain a large amount of curiosity as it began to wonder what other Pokemon the human may be hiding in a Pokeball that it had not seen before. Letting that curiosity get the best of it the rat stepped out of the grass as it made it's presence known to Ethan as it began to walk towards him. It's teeth were hanging out of the front of it's mouth as the rat began to regain it's focus knowing how dangerous a human could be if they wanted to capture a wild Pokemon like itself. Carefully scanning the area around it to make sure there was no other humans Rattata took up a tough looking pose hoping to intimidate the human so he would not try to attack until Rattata was ready to strike first in the event the human chose to have a battle. If not the rat had at least gotten an up close look at a rare Pokemon which alone had made the risk of getting so close to Ethan worth it. A wild lv14 Rattata has appeared. Would you like to choose a Pokemon or would you rather flee?

Seeing a Rattata jumping out of the tall grass and slowly approaching Ethan, he thought the little rodent Pokemon was being cute. Since he did had a Rattata before-- now Raticate-- he looked at the Rattata and couldn't pass up an opportunity to battle a wild one. His Raticate, after all, wasn't exactly a wild one that he had battled and captured, but more like adopted, so to speak.
Seizing this opportunity to squeeze some training for his Pokemon, he called out to his Charmeleon instead, and let his Meowth rest for a little longer. The Charmeleon looked at the Rattata, who was shorter than the lizard, and grinned. Soo... a Pokemon that looked just like his teammate before Ratz evolved! How cute! "Dynner, come on out and use Dragon Rage!" The trainer ordered as he tossed out the Pokeball and gave command. The fire type wasted a bit of time trying to entertain the little rat with his silly expressions before executing a dragon rage attack.

Interested in Weecot, the Rattata had emerged from it's hiding place in hopes of being able to examine the unfamiliar face but instead, the human had chosen to face it in battle. Somewhat annoyed, the wild creature nattered it's fangs in a grumpy manner, bracing itself for the upcoming battle. If the human had an unfamiliar Pokemon such as Weecot on his side, then there were no doubts that he would have more mystery Pokemon. It didn't hold much confidence in itself but the Rattata was ready to defend itself. Atleast until it saw it's opponent. Jaw dropping, the purple rodent was unable to hide it's surprise as the body of Charmeleon towered over the small creature. How on earth was it supposed to win?
Still, Dynner didn't seem too bad as he started to pull funny faces but the Rattata wasn't sure if he was trying to lighten the mood or if the Charmeleon was mocking it. Snapping it's fangs forward in warning, the Rattata wanted the Charmeleon to back off but Dynner had his orders. With a shrug of his shoulders and parting of his jaw, the fiery lizard shot forward a burst of blue flames which coiled in the air. Heading straight for the Rattata, the purple rodent froze as fear cloaked it's body and upon collision, the burst of flames faded, leaving the sight of a fainted Rattata behind.
Congratulations! The wild Rattata was defeated! Dynner gained 1 level and grew to Level 20! +1 Happiness Weetcot gained 1 level (due to holding Exp. Share) and grew to Level 24!

OOC: moving exp share to Charmeleon
IC: The Rattata didn't last another round when battling Dynner, and Ethan felt alright about that he was able to move closer toward Goldenrod City. The intensity of the blue flames from Dragon Rage was enough to put the Rattata out. Ethan said goodbye to the fainted Rattata as it recovered a little and ran away. Now that it was just him and his Pokemon again, he recalled his Charmeleon and Cottonee, since now that his grass type had been out in the sun for a while. Now just walking by himself, he wondered what he would encounter next, the type of people living around Goldenrod City, as well as what kind of Pokemon would be living out in this urban center. Besides the Seviper that he had encountered earlier, other Pokemon haven't been much of a challenge to him right now. Brushing that thought aside, he walked with a bright smile on, because the day was quite enjoyable to be thinking about some random Pokemon he just fought off.

As Ethan walked daydreaming about whatever his next encounter may be a rather familiar looking Pokemon was waiting for him a short distance away. The small Pokemon had witnessed one of Ethan's earlier battles from a distance and it had been wanting to get some revenge for it's species ever since the human had won the battle. The it was really small unlike most of the other Pokemon on the route it's huge fangs allowed ti to fight even the strongest Pokemon with at least some degree of success. Though that very means of fighting was dangerous as well leaving no range between itself and it's foes. In packs it's strategy worked very well however a single species tended to do rather poorly when battling trainers who frequented the area. As uneasy as the young Pokemon felt about jumping into a battle it's sense of pride was on the line. It could not let this human beat up another member of it's species or else it's kind would quickly turn into a punching bag. The purple Pokemon bared it's large fangs as it approached Ethan ready to pick a fight with him whether he wanted to or not. The Rattata had not thought about any of the risks for very long as it drew closer and closer to him until only a few feet separated itself from Ethan. It's large fangs would hopefully cause the human to make a mistake when selecting a Pokemon however if the mere sight of them did not help then maybe if it actually used those fangs on him they would certainly help. For now Rattata kept it's eyes on it's target. No mercy was going to be shown and whatever Pokemon he sent out was going to go though a world of pain. A wild level 16 Rattata appeared. Please select a Pokemon.

After defeating the Rattata from earlier, it didn't take him long to encounter Rattata. Or, rather, the Rattata had some business with him and was waiting for him. He stopped as soon as it seemed that the Rattata wasn't going to run away if he got any closer. Now that he had stopped walking, Ethan stared at the Rattata silently for a couple long and slow serious seconds before actually sending out a Pokemon into the battle. He was just hoping that this route would have something more interesting, but now he was stuck with two Rattatas in a row, especially now that he even have one, but evolved, himself.
"Come on out again, Felime. Start with a Fake out!" He tossed a Pokeball and ordered. Fake Out was a really good move to have his Meowth keep, because now his cat Pokemon could attack first before the opponent would get a chance. He have no plan on having Meowth learning another move over this one for now.

Nattering it's large fangs, the wild Rattata felt worried knots form in it's stomach but there was no way that it was going to let this human walk all over it. Taking pride in it's species, there were many passing trainers who would turn their nose up at the sight of the purple rodents or simply use them as training fodder. The Rattata couldn't allow such insults to continue and Ethan was going to be the first target in this Rattata uprising. Even if he did own a Raticate, it meant little to this purple rat. It was the wild ones that it fought to protect, not the silly human ones who were too weak to defend themselves in the wild.
Soon enough, Ethan chose to send forward Felime the Meowth and the Rattata didn't even hesitate. With great speed, the Rattata planned to sink it's fangs into the first opponent as quickly as possible. If it could pin the Meowth down, then she wouldn't be able to avoid a flurry of bite attacks. But Felime was not only swift on her feet but also in her mind. Remaining perfectly still, she waited until just the last moment before unsheathing her claws and landing a surprising slash across the rodent's face. Suddenly frozen on the spot with wide eyes, the purple rat recoiled backward from the swift blow and rolled around the grass in agony.

This particular Rattata had a prideful, aggressive appearance, such that Ethan could feel the mouse won't back down as easily. Even though Rattatas naturally have teeth sticking out of their body, the pose that this Rattata held before the battle started translated into preparedness and a warrior-like quality. The small but brave Rattata was like a warrior facing a giant, such as Ethan. Thankfully, Ethan's minion companion Felime were able to strike first with a sneaky attack, scratching the rodent with her sharp, piercing claws.
"Great job, Felime. Now go for a Scratch attack!" Ethan cheered, though it wasn't a surprise as his Pokemon were gradually doing better and improving in the skills of combat. Hopefully by the time he finished this scenic route to Goldenrod City, he would be ready to fight the next gym or something. After a decent rest from walking in Ilex Forest, of course!

The wild Rattata tossed and turned, still reeling in from the mixture of pain and surprise from the previous Fake Out attack. Wincing a red eye shut, the purple rodent realised it had just made a giant fool of itself and the only way to redeem the name of the Rattata species was now to attack back. It had fast feet and whilst the Meowth had caught it off guard before, there was no way it could lose the second round. In a game of cat and mouse, the mouse has just as much of a chance to be the victor. Rolling back up onto all four clawed paws, the Rattata glared angrily over at Felime, who in return, cared very little for what was going on in the wild Pokemon's head. Instead, she heard the order from Ethan loud and clear and with a twitch of her ears, prepared to go in for the ending strike. Leaning forward, the feline pounced straight for the Rattata, who wanted nothing more than to flee but couldn't help but freeze in terror. Sets of sharp claws and wide fangs aimed straight for it, the Rattata's bottom jaw quivered, until it felt the final scratch of Felime, which was enough to end the battle.

OOC: replacing growl for feint attack lol
After battling another Rattata, Ethan wasn't sure what about him that was attracting these rodents. Maybe they can sense that he was training a Raticate? Or perhaps he smelled like Feline and this made some cat and mouse aggression? Or maybe he just smelled like food for the Rattata? It would be nice if Pokemon could talk human so he could find out why, but Rattata could neither talk human nor use psychic telepathy.
After sending the last Rattata off, Ethan returned his Meowth and continued walking again. He hadn't realize it, but he was beginning to feel hungry from walking through the Ilex Forest, and he could use some food right now. He dug into his bag to find some snacks, a bag of almonds and then a bag of peanuts. He walked casually as he opened the first bag and then the second bag, eating a whole lot of nutritious nuts. Then, he gulped down some water to wash down his mouth. Filling himself up with a quick snack, he continued his way toward Goldenrod City, where he was still trying to make his destination.

Leaving a small trail of fainted Rattata's behind him as he progressed, Ethan continued his way towards Goldenrod City. He hadn't long stepped out from the dense, Ilex Forest and already he had been swarmed by a number of wild Pokemon. Simply wanting to enter the city and have a break, rest his Pokemon and perhaps have some food, for now, all he could do was settle with the snacks and water that he had been carrying with him. The dirt path along the route was full of twists and turns, accompanied by patches of tall grass, where wild Pokemon would jump out at unsuspecting travellers. Particularly ones with food. So as he strolled along, eating a few bags of nuts, it was a particularly brave move that he had chosen to make. Something could swoop down and steal the snack right from his fingertips, swing down from a tree branch and yank it out of his very hands or simply jump out of the tall grass and devour him whole, with the bag of nuts as a side dish. But no such scenario occurred and instead, he was able to snack in peace.
But as his footsteps continued to crunch against the dirt path, his presence alerted a very peculiar Pokemon. Sitting beneath a tree just off from the path, Ethan had probably spotted it before it had spotted Ethan. Rotund, the half yellow, half brown Pokemon looked up from it's feast of berries, in which a very large pile sat just in front of it. Becoming instantly protective and territorial of it's mound of food, the wild Pokemon staggered to it's feet hurriedly, tripping up over itself in the process before staring at Ethan. Licking some berry juice around it's lips, the obscure Pokemon wriggled it's fingers toward Ethan, as if trying to ward him away. But this could've also been taken as an invitation to a challenge, especially as the Drowzee began to very slowly step closer and closer to Ethan.
A wild Drowzee (Level 20) has appeared! Please select a Pokemon to use in battle or Flee!

After eating his snacks, Ethan finally stumbled upon something new on this route. From the look of this rotund Pokemon and hazy, lazy eyes, he knew for sure that this won't be some lively Pokemon. The Pokemon wasn't moving very fast, and also clumsy enough to tripped over itself before getting close to Ethan. Seeing this as another opportunity, the young trainer tossed out a different Pokemon this time, to allow the Meowth to rest up a little bit more.
"Come on out, Ratz, we've got a... snail! Use Bite!" Ethan tossed a Pokeball and gave command. The furry mouse sniffed the air and clicked his teeth. He could smell the food that the Drowzee was guarding, as well as berry juice around the mouth that the previous lick had missed. Perhaps when Ratz would use a Bite attack, it would chew onto fatty bits of this Pokemon, but the skin looks a bit tough too.

Not wanting to entice Ethan into a battle, Drowzee immediately understood it's mistake and tried to take it back by thrashing it's arms back and forth, as if trying to say 'no.' However, this only appeared to look even more aggressive, so Drowzee let it's shoulders slack and it's nose hang for a moment while Ethan settled what Pokemon he was going to use. When it had something to protect, Drowzee could fight relatively easy. Besides, it didn't want to give up it's treasure trove of berries. It didn't mind having to get it's nose dirty for a little bit in order to continue this nice day relatively unbothered. However, it might decide to eat somewhere a little further away from the path next time... Ratz entered the battlefield and was immediately keen to the presence of the berries. Drowzee had by now licked up the last few drips of berry off it's face, but that didn't take away the delicious smell wafting through the battlefield. Ethan probably couldn't tell, but to a Pokemon the sense of smell was strong, as were the berries. Not that it mattered. A Pokemon stood in the way, and Ratz didn't mind a good battle. Maybe he'd find something to chew on after this, like a stick at the tree or something. Either way, The sheer speed advantage that Ratz had meant that it would be able to get the first hit in without immediate retaliation, so Ratz dashed forward, aiming a well placed bite on the side of the Drowzee. It let out a silent cry, obviously surprised at the potency of the attack, before staggering back and examining it's own side. That definitely hurt. Angered, Drowzee lowered it's head closer to the ground and drug it's foot across the dirt as if it were a Tauros about to charge. Not nearly as intimidating though. As it lumbered forward for a headbutt, it was on the mark, albeit not as powerful as the bovine beasts it mimic'd. Instead, Ratz seemed to brush off the attack, leaving Drowzee in a state of confusion as it backed up to avoid those fangs once more. Breathing a bit heavier than earlier, Drowzee's eyes flashed over to the pile of berries before flickering back to Ratz, morbidly curious what move was about to knock Drowzee out and down for the count. If it was lucky the berries would still be there and another Pokemon wouldn't take them. But, as luck would have it, Drowzee was in a battle so the tides probably weren't in it's favor. Wild Drowzee - Level |20| Health: 18/60 Current Status: Trying to use my head... Successful Headbutt! Ethan's Ratz - Level |23|

Ethan figured that Drowzee was trying to communicate something, but the body language wasn't helpful to get the message through. What was that arms waving supposed to mean? He shrugged it off and continued watching the battle continued. Ratz was fast, faster than the Drowzee to land a painful bite on it. In return, the staggering and dragging Drowzee landed a Headbutt on Ratz, which was not that damaging. Ratz clicked his teeth intimidatingly in return, brushing off the headbutt like a scratch on the surface.
"You did great, Ratz! Now go for another Bite and we can finish this battle!" Ethan cheered, already getting bored of this opponent Pokemon. Sure, if this opponent would be giving a little challenge or does something cool, he might be interested. For now, he was just casually walking toward Goldenrod City. Ratz clicked his teeth to signal that he understood, and eyed the Drowzee directly, letting it know that he wasn't here for the berries. He also thanked the Drowzee for joining this battle, because it would be over soon.

The Drowzee shuddered slightly as the wind blew by ominously. The wound from Ratz's previous Bite still stung, and Drowzee could feel it's side beginning to throb with the pain. One more of those and the psychic Pokemon would be counting stars for a few hours until it came to. Hopefully bird Pokemon didn't come to peck at it while it was asleep, or something come behind it and steal it's berries while Drowzee attempted to come to. The creature held a one track mind when it came to food, especially berries, so of course that would still be the biggest worry. However, the battle seemed to pose a big enough threat to at least divert it's attention for a turn or two more. Honestly, that's all Drowzee felt like it could last. Ratz was given an order, but before executing it, the rat locked eyes with Drowzee for a few moments. The power of a glance, especially one between Pokemon, had the capacity to share a lot of information that trainers may have not known. Either way, it was conveyed well as Drowzee understood the meaning of this battle. It wasn't a battle for it's berries. It was a battle for experience and the sake of a trainer battle, to be honest. Drowzee didn't mind helping the Raticate become stronger if that was it's part in all of this. As long as it kept it's berries for when it awoke, there would be no issue. It would faint and come back to eventually. The fear and uncertainty of the battle slowly began to melt away as Raticate began it's charge. Using his small paws as leverage against the dirt, Ratz took quick leaps and bounds towards the now-confident Drowzee. Wiggling it's fingers at Raticate, although no attack was quick enough to hit the moving target, Ratz was on Drowzee almost immediately. Taking the courtesy to bite it's other side instead of irritate the same wound, Ratz chomped down and then skittered away quickly to avoid an unlikely retaliation. Drowzee stumbled back a few steps before falling down to the ground. There was a soft squishing sound as Drowzee fell back on it's berries. At least it would have one or two that hadn't been squished, but better one or two than none when it woke up. Besides. Perhaps it could have berry juice when it woke up? Either way, Ratz and Ethan were victorious in this strange, quick battle. Wild Drowzee- Level |20| Health: 0/60 Current Status: ... No Attack! Ethan's Ratz - Level |23|
