Essence had been lurking in the dark shadows near the Guild Gent's House, watching the brand new and what she imagined to be expensive pair of running shoes resting on display in his home. She had been planning to sell the pair of running shoes. However, she needed to wait for the perfect time to do so. At first,, it appeared that the right time would ever arrive for her, but eventually the elderly man had decided to turn it in for the night and head on to bed. "It's about time." Essence hissed under her breathe a bit. She would then glance over at Brinley and Hedwig. "Alright, here's our chance. Brinley you're going to stand guard here. So, be sure to let us know if the old man wakes up or if any unexpected company arrives." She ordered her fire fox. Brinley nodded her head and turned her attention towards the old man's bedroom. Essence would then turn her attention towards the Rowlett resting on her shoulder. "You're going to sneak in and grab those sneakers. It shouldn't be too difficult for you to do with that special ability of yours." She stated with a smirk. She had managed to steal the Rowlett from a foreign trainer, after being intrigued by the Grass and Flying-type striking appearance and unique Pokemon ability. Luckily, Hedwig did not seem to mind traveling along with her and wrecking a little havoc along the way. Perhaps, she viewed her old trainer as too weak and boring.
Essence and Hedwig made their way over towards the Guild Gent's House. Essence would use her advance thieving skills to unlock the window closest to the pair of running shoes without causing any commotion. She then extended her arm. allowing Hedwig to fly right inside of the house and scoop up with running shoes without barely touching it due to her Long Reach ability. "Great job, Hedwig. Now, let's get out of her." She whispered obtaining the running shoes from her Pokemon. She would close the window back before sprinting back towards her motorcycle and Brinley. She would switch out her leather boots and replace them with the running shoes before making her grand escape.

"Excuse me, Sir! If I'm not mistaken, you are Guide Gent, the tour guide? Would you be a gentleman and show me the way to Mr. Pokemon's house?" The old man smiled and looked up at her. "I am, but as for the tour, I was just about to go on my morning run. It shouldn't take too long, if you just wait here. Or perhaps you'd care to accompany me?" There was a twinkle in his eye that suggested, assuming you can keep up."Then it's a race, old man!" Trixie let the act drop and clapped her fist against her palm. This was the kind of thing she'd spent years training for. Of course, it probably wouldn't do to go all-out against an old guy. She could go easy on him, right? "Very good then. Hup-hup!" replied Gent. And he was off like a rocket. "Wait up!" yelled Trixie as she was caught flat-footed, and had to scramble for a moment before she could settle into a comfortable running pace. As she closed the distance between herself and Guide Gent, she could hear him calling back over his shoulder about the nearby Pokemon Center, which she quickly passed on her right. Pokemon Center, good to know, she thought, as he turned an abrupt corner. Having time to brace herself, Trixie followed with ease. A few lefts and rights later took them through some kind of hoity-toity residential district lined with palm trees. Are you kidding me? she thought as she saw the sidewalks crowded with ladies carrying umbrellas and grocery bags, and dog-walkers trying to manage their agitated charges. Guide Gent seemed to be weaving through the crowd without breaking a sweat. As Trixie followed, she splashed through a puddle, dousing a nearby Houndour with a splash. The startled puppy Pokemon let out a whine, followed by a snarl from its Arcanine companion, and as Trixie frantically backpedaled away her leg snagged in the leash of a playful Lillipup. Breathlessly muttering apologies, she staggered away from this dog too. Guide Gent must already be at the end of the block by now. So Trixie took a page out of her parkour playbook and dashed through a front yard, feeling the freshly-watered flower bed squelch beneath her feet. She dropped down into an alley, tossed a thumbs-up in the direction of a friendly Zigzagoon who waved at her from its perch atop a trash can, clambered over a chain-link fence, slid down the guardrails of a few staircases, and found herself nearly face-to-face with her guide - who, without missing a beat, was sharing fun facts about the city's own Pokemart. The final stop on their little tour was the majestic waterfall spilling over the western half of the city. Trixie could see Guide Gent making a beeline for a certain pier. She picked up her pace. Closing in... drawing even with... and even passing the merrily jogging old man! She had done it! She took a flying leap off the pier, splashing down into the lake below, giddy with the thrill of victory. Her elation was cut short a moment later as Gent reached over the pier to help her up. I just won a footrace... against some old man, she realized. That was hardly anything to be proud about. She was attempting to dry herself off with a gym towel when she saw Gent pulling out of his bag a water bottle and... some new running shoes? "Yours look to be in rather bad shape," he said, gesturing to Trixie's shoes, which were splattered with mud and dust. "Would you like to have these? Think of it as a gift for accompanying an old man and listening to him ramble." Struggling to catch her breath, Trixie could only smile and nod. [words=633] 400 to Cacnea egg

Sloane entered the Pokecenter, looking about at some of the trainers waiting for their Pokemon to be healed. She had seen these places before, but had never had a reason to go inside. It felt like being at the dentist. Did she have to pay? How much was it!? Was it irresponsible to heal her Pokemon when they were still able to fight? The Nurse looked friendly enough, red hair in two odd loops. Sloane held back a smile, remembering how nervous she was. Peb also was nervous, the Roggenrola shook on her shoulder. She got to the counter and cleared her throat. "U-um excuse me, I have three Pokemon and they're all quite hurt. How much will it cost to have them healed?" She asked, hoping it wasn't too much. She had been saving her money for expenses in the dig sites, she even considered getting a small apartment in Violet City while she explored the Ruins of Alph. The Nurse smiled. "Pokecenter services are free of charge to any trainer~" She said with a smile and a nod. "May I please see your Pokemon?" Sloane handed her Sloshy and Butterscoth's pokeballs. When she reached to grab Peb he wobbled nervously. Sloane raised an eyebrow. "P-Peb? Are you alright?" She tried to grab him but he slipped onto her other shoulder. She blushed when she saw that an old man, waiting for his Pokémon to be healed no doubt, grinned at her situation. She clenched her teeth and swirled around a bit, managing to catch Peb off guard. "Peb...I know you're scared but it's not gonna be anything to worry about, this Nurse will heal you up!" She handed Peb over in his Pokeball to the Nurse who put Sloane's Pokemon on the queue for healing. The old man approached, and Sloane looked over curiously. Was he gonna make fun of her? No he had a look of intent. He wanted a conversation. "Hey, I saw you make poor Mikey cry. Good work" He smiled, showing a tooth gap. "Wh-wha!? I didn't mean to!" Sloane gasped, surprised that this old man had somehow been watching! Creepy! "That was his first trainer battle." The old man chuckled. "You really did him one! Kee kee kee!" "Excuse me sir, did you want something?" Sloane asked, tilting her head. "I see that you are a trainer, and one probably going on a long adventure. I can assume this much from the way you battled." The old man seemed a bit more serious now. "I am called the guide gent, I help new trainers get their bearings, I was going to talk to Mikey but the boy ran off to train as soon as his Pokemon were healed..." "You have advice for me?" Sloane asked, leaning forward, eager to get any tidbits that would help her case. "Not quite girl! After my long life I still hardly know how the Pokemon types!" He chuckled, his tooth gap making a whistling sound. "I want to give you some running shoes, they can help you jog around the battlefield quicker to give your Pokemon commands faster." "That sounds incredible! You're just...giving these to me?" "Yes, behold!" The old man reached into a big black sports bag he had with him and produced...two pink crocs with a flower pattern. "The running shoes. You don't know how lucky you are." Sloane wanted to be polite but her face flushed with disgust at them. These weren't worth any advantage in battles, she might as well take these to be polite and then never use them. She would have more pride losing a battle than winning with these. "Keeee ke ke!" The guide gent laughed, putting the shoes away. "I was just kidding! Those aren't the running shoes! Here, try these on!" Guide gent then produced a pair of pastel purple and white tennis shoes. Sloane grinned, these were almost stylish. She accepted them and did a quick bow of gratitude. "Thank you mister, these will definitely help me a lot!" "But remember, if you use these to act twice you can only do it once, and your Pokemon will be tired and need time to refocus, meaning your opponent will also be able to get two moves in as well." He said grimly. Guide gent then looked behind Sloane at the counter, he smiled. "Your Pokemon are ready." Sloane turned around and accepted the Pokemon from the nurse, thanking her briefly before turning again to try and thank Guide Gent another time. However, when she turned around, he was gone.

Yuki finally arrived in Cherrygrove after hours of traveling. Going back to New Bark wasn’t the best decision in hindsight. It started raining half way through the trip and the roads became muddy. His legs got knee high in it, covering his pants and shoes. The mess made him fearful of Nurse Joy’s wrath, but hopeful for some understanding. Walking into the City, his gaze met a elderly man, who invited him to clean up and wait out the storm. The former criminal was weary at first, but concluded that the man meant no harm. He was given a hot bath and allowed to use the washer to clean his clothing. His shoes were still a mess, however. Not wanting Yuki to go bear footed, he offered the boy some of his old running shoes. Yuki gave him many thanks and cleaned up the dishes of their lunch as a sign of this. After this, he left for the Pokémon center.

ZAIDEN KABILA Aspiring Champion Bike Mode: N/A | Time: Day
Zaiden’s arrival into Cherrygrove was an eventful one to say the least. As soon as the mousy-brown haired lad stepped foot inside of the city’s inner limits, an old man with short grey hair walked up to him. Then old man waved to the young teen, beckoning for Zaiden to approach him, and smile brightly. “Hi, I’m known as the Guide Gent around here. You look new around here, don’t ya?” The guide Gent began, which caused Zaiden to pause like a deer caught in headlights. He was new – all the way from Viridian City where life was just a bit different than he had found it to be in Johto. The outskirts of Cherrygrove didn’t look all that much different or all that much similar to Viridian, to be honest. If Zaiden’s quiet nature was any sort of surprise for most, the Gent would take it in stride.
“I knew it!” The Guide Gent nodded to himself as he cupped his chin in its hands. There was a strange sort of twinkle in the old man’s eyes that made Zaiden feel uneasy around him. “You look like you’ve traveled pretty far. Maybe Kanto?’ Zaiden nodded his head, though a bit apprehensively. This guy was either pretty decent with guessing, or pretty creepy one, and Zaiden wasn’t sure which to make of it. “Yes..sir…” He muttered underneath his breath for a second and searched around with his chocolate brown eyes for his nearest escape route. The Gent smiled, nodding his head affirmatively, before continuing on in his thoughts. “Care if I give you a tour. There’s a prize at the end.”
Zaiden relaxed a bit though one hands silently caressed one of his Pokemon’s Pokeballs and nodded his head. “Sure.” After that, the Guide Gent would begin walking and beckoning with his hand for Zaiden to keep up. For an old man, the Guide Gent sure could move! He zipped over to a small red-and-white Pokecenter and pointed to the front doors of the establishment. “This here’s a Pokecenter,” Zaiden blinked, confused. These were common all over the place, especially in Kanto. Were other people really that confused by them?! Before he could try to interject, the Guide Gent continued on with his speech. “Sometimes, they’ll let you stay the night in town so that you don’t have to worry about sleeping outdoors, though not all Pokecenters offer this! Also, they heal your Pokemon back up to full health if you go inside and ask Nurse Joy to heal them. Remember to visit each Pokecenter in town especially after a grueling journey through the woods. It could make the difference in your next fight.” Zaiden only half listened because honestly…he knew this!
Then off they went again. To the Pokemart, a small blue-and-white building where the Guide Gent pointed to the front doors. “This here’s the Pokemart.” And now Zaiden desperately wanted to interrupt him but his anxiety made him swallow back his words. It was impolite to interrupt other people and this Guide was yammering away about all the latest facts he had over a literal store that sold supplies. “They sell all sorts of supplies – healing supplies that can restore hit points to your Pokemon, cure paralysis, cure poison, and cure other serious ailments. They also sell Pokeballs to help you capture wild Pokemon with. Some sell fishing supplies…” And on, and on, and on he went. Ok, got it. Then the Guide Gent walked Zaiden over to Route 30 to explain Mr. Pokemon’s house and the trainers that awaited to face off with each other in Pokemon battles on the route.
Eventually, the long winded guide gent would walk them over to a small little house with two windows to peer inside. “And this is my house! Well, thank you for listening to me, you can visit my house any time you need. Here ya go, as I promise, a prize for listening to my tale!” The Guide Gent handed Zaiden over the shoes and explained how they could help him speed up his progression and go faster. But…they were just shoes?! Ugh, ok, this was just a tad ridiculous to have to go through for some shoes…
The prize are some shoes?!

"Please, allow me."
The dirt road lurched up towards a ranch home with a humble front porch and a cherry-red roof, chimney puffing happily into the overcast sky. Kids in scarves and coats sped past the front gate after street Meowth.
"Good weather for a jog," the Guide Gent joked, chuckled, and settled heavily on his front step. "What did you say your name was, fellow?"
The man set the Gent's bags on the stairs before straightening up and flashing a winning smile. "Kei Sykes. Always happy to help."
"Mr. Sykes! Well, you're certainly the kindest salesman that's stopped through town. You're not going to try to sell me snake oil after buttering me up?" Shooting Kei a look.
The two broke out into laughter.
"Er, actually, I'm here to... well, I'm on my way to win my first badge."
"Really!" The Guide Gent snorted. He paused. "Really!? At your age!? How impressive!"
"I wouldn't say that," Kei bumbled, rubbing the back of his head. "I'm just a little late is all..."
"Ah, but you've had to sacrifice a lot to get here, haven't you? I can't imagine finding the time to be a trainer in my old age!"
A shadow passed over Kei's expression, but he didn't say anything.
The Guide Gent was deep in rumination now as he reflected. "Oh, to go back to those days... It was ages ago. We didn't know nearly as much about Pokemon as we do now. Every day was its own adventure! Almost lost a few fingers... Nonetheless!
"I'm always happy to help a new trainer! Spare me a few minutes, Mr. Sykes, I have something for you- No, no, I insist!" tay @ adoxography

Valon wondered around Cherrygrove City, cold from the snowy weather. He was approached by an mysterious old man. "You ok son?" The guy asked him. "It's freezing!" Valon shivered. The old man gestured towards a nearby house and said, "Come inside and warm up, I made hot cocoa" Valon nodded and followed the man inside the house. Once inside, the old man pulled up a chair next to a crackling fireplace and gestured Valon to sit. He then poured hot cocoa into a cup, added marshmellows and gave the cup to Valon. "Thanks!" Valon said. The old man sat in a nearby and said, "What's your name?" "Valon sir." Valon said "Why hello Valon sir!" The old man chuckled. Valon's face turned pink. "I'm only joking m'boy!" The old man said. "I'm the kind old gent." The kind old gent looked at Valon and continued. "You should be prepared for this weather. Sadly I do not have any clothes in your size but..." The kind old man walked to the closet and took out a pair of shoes. "Try these on." He said giving the shoes to Valon. Valon put on the shoes and oddly they fit perfectly! "Oh good! A perfect fit!" The kind old man said. " Feel free to stay a bit, that snow won't let up." Valon sat with the kind old man, waiting for the weather to calm down a little... [235 words towards Wooloo egg]

Charlie was used to the hustle and bustle of a busy city, and Cherrygrove was rather small compared to their hometown, so they weren't overwhelmed. But thy certainly were lost! They'd never been here before, and while it was a smaller city, there were still a lot of buildings and they had no idea where the mart was or how to get to the next route. It wasn't long before one of the residents took pity on them, and pointed them in the right direction. Charlie was thankful, and was happy that someone had been nice enough to point them to the right places. What they weren't expecting were the random shoes shoved into their arms as the stranger quickly sped away. They blinked down at the shoes, they looked new and they doubted they'd even been worn before. Perhaps they'd been stolen and it was better to pawn them off to a passer-by instead of keeping them... Charlie shrugged and put them in their bag, deciding to try them out later. Free shoes were free shoes, they weren't the one to take them.

The Guide Gent's House
It was spring in Cherrygrove City, and the town was in full bloom. The trees were a vibrant pink, the grass was bright green, and the scent of flowers mingled with that of the salt water. The streets were full of people enjoying the sunny weather, taking walks and playing with their Pokémon. Winter was over and spring was here. Teddy released all his Pokémon, and they darted off to play under some nearby cherry trees. The trainers decided to explore the city with their starters, careful to always keep their other Pokémon in view as they took in all the sights.
As Teddy and Crissy walked down the street, they reached a house with a sign out front reading “Full-of-Energy, High-Speed Old Man.” The two gave each other a confused look, before turning to continue down the street. But they didn’t get far before an old man burst out of the door. “You’re a rookie trainer, aren’t you?” the man exclaimed. Teddy was about to reply that he already had a few battles under his belt, but the man continued without waiting for a response. “I can tell! That’s OK! Everyone is a rookie at some point. If you’d like, I can teach you a few things.” The man was loud, and he spoke fast. “So that’s what the sign is about,” Teddy whispered to Crissy, who giggled. But the old man took no notice of them. “Ok then! Follow me!” he shouted, before sprinting off down the street. Crissy quipped, “No, that is what the sign must be about,” before the trainers ran as fast as they could after the old man.
The duo finally caught up to the man outside of the Pokémon Center. He explained that they had machines that could heal Pokémon, just like in Professor Elm’s lab. “That’s good. Buying all the supplies to take care of this knucklehead can get a bit pricey,” Teddy said, gesturing towards Charlie. Charlie just snorted and rolled his eyes. Teddy was about to walk into the center, but the old man raced off again. This time he stopped just down the street, in front of the Pokémon Mart. The man loudly explained that the store sold Poké Balls, before darting off again. That’s helpful, Teddy thought to himself. I’ll need plenty of those if I’m going to complete my Pokédex.
The man then pointed out a few other locations, such as Route 30, and the sea. Teddy and Crissy arrived to each stop on the tour sweaty and gasping for air, but the old man never seemed to notice, and just continued to sprint around town. Eventually, they found themselves in front of the old man’s house again. As the pair collapsed on the grass, the old man dashed into his house, reappearing moments later with two boxes in his hands. He handed one box to Teddy, and the other to Crissy. Upon opening it, Teddy found a pair of new running shoes. The duo gave each other another puzzled look, unsure of why this strange old man was just handing out shoes.
“No one ever keeps up with me. They all get tired or bored and quit before the tour is over,” The old man explained. “So these are for you, as a token of my appreciation. And by the way, there’s something else in there.” Teddy looked into the bottom of his box, and discovered a map folded inside. All the places from the tour were marked. “Thank you! These will really be helpful. And the tour was very informative too,” Teddy said, as he put on his new shoes. Crissy also expressed her gratitude. Before they could say goodbye, however, the old man had seen another new trainer, and had sprinted off to greet them. “Well, he definitely is a full-of-energy, high-speed old man,” Teddy laughed, as the trainers walked off to find their other Pokémon.

After a resounding victory over a certain red-haired trainer, Shinya finally entered the first major city in Johto. The one and only Cherrygrove City. However, before doing anything else, the Team Skull grunt thought it best to get a tour of the city. Since this was his first visit to Johto, he wasn't all that familiar with the region or its cities. Thankfully, through the use of his Pokegear, Shinya discovered that an elderly man by the name of Gent gave tours of Cherrygrove City to new trainers. So, following the map on his Pokegear, Shinya made his way to Guide Gent's house and knocked on the door. "Hey, old timer! You around?!" Shinya yelled as he pounded on the door, until said door finally opened and he got an answer from the elderly gentleman who greeted him on the other side. "Well, hello there. I don't recall seeing you around here before, so I'm assuming you're a new trainer. Is that right?" Gent asked Shinya with a welcoming smile and tone of voice, used to this sort of thing by now. In response to this greeting, the Bug type trainer simply rolled his eyes and decided to respond with a rather snide remark. "Oh no. I've lived here for years. Ya must've just never noticed me until now, pops." Shinya shook his head as he spoke, then snickered at his own words a bit. However, despite Shinya's rather rude response, Gent found himself chuckling a little as well, maintaining his friendly smile and demeanor. "I see. You're more than a little rough around the edges, aren't you? Well then, in that case, perhaps you'd like to join me on my daily run around the city. I can give you the tour as we go, and if you're able to keep up with me, I'll throw in a little something extra. Tell me, how does that sound?" Shinya definitely didn't expect this sort of reaction from the elderly man, but it did intrigue him for sure. And after a minute of thinking it over, the Team Skull grunt gave the old man his trademark grin. "Tch. Okay, old timer. You're on. Just don't keep me waitin' for too long when I pull ahead of ya." Shinya said to Gent, sounding very sure that he wouldn't have any trouble beating an old man in a foot race. Even if this wasn't technically a race. "Only if you'll do the same for me, young man. Now, let's begin the tour." Once Gent had finished speaking, he exited his home, closed the door behind him, then took off running down the street right away. Straight away, Shinya was shocked by how fast Gent was for his age, taking a moment to collect himself after witnessing such a thing. "Dang. He moves pretty fast for such an old guy."Be that as it may, the Bug type trainer was never one to give up a challenge, quickly getting his grin back and running after Gent as fast as he could. Keeping up with Gent did prove to be a bit of a challenge, but Shinya managed to pull it off and listen to the tour as they ran through the streets of Cherrygrove City. Even as he ran, Shinya listened to everything Gent told him, making some mental notes as they went. Eventually, the tour was over, as the two came to a complete stop as soon as they made it back to Gent's house. As soon as they did, Shinya immediately started to catch his breath, then pulled a water bottle out of his bag and drank from it until he was satisfied. "Phew...Gotta hand it to ya, pops. You're not so bad for a man your age."Gent took a moment to catch his breath as well, but since he was more used to this sort of thing than Shinya, he was able to do so with minimal effort, then smiled at the trainer from Alola once again. "Oh, that was nothing, but thank you. Now, I am a man of my word. Wait here just a moment." The elderly man went back into his home, then returned a few minutes later with a brand-new pair of shoes, presenting them to Shinya. "These are Running Shoes. Please, take them with you on your journey, Shinya. I'm sure they'll be a great help to you." As the Team Skull grunt listened to Gent and looked at the shoes he was offering him, he recognized them from the internet and knew what they could do, grinning once again as he accepted them from the old man. "Yeah, I'd say these will come in real handy. Thanks, old timer." Shinya then sat down and quickly changed his shoes, not wanting to miss out on the benefits that went along with these shoes for even a single battle. "Think nothing of it, young man. Best of luck on the rest of your journey through Johto." Gent returned to his home after that, and Shinya got back on his feet, placing his old shoes into his bag. And now that he had a pair of Running Shoes, he knew exactly where he wanted to give them their first test run.

The blue-haired educator walked along the pathway through the route back to Cherrygrove slowly and searched high and low for the Gardener she’d heard about who was trading away their Purrloin. Purrloin were one of the many Dark Type Pokemon she wanted to research to understand better. She knew from the limited data that she collected on the wild feline that they were known to use their charms to sway others into letting them steal their personal belongings. Why would Purrloin be so keen on stealing what they didn’t own, though? Many Pokemon gathered shiny or ‘valuable’ items, and most of the time they had no idea that they were stealing the items. She had to hope this was the same case for this specific type of feline.
Though as she approached one individual after another and posed the same question, “Have you seen a Gardener who is looking to trade their Purrloin?” Mishu would get the same answer. “Oh, no, miss. Sorry. I haven’t.” Several shrugged and shook their heads, before carrying on about their days. She grumbled underneath her breath and shoved her hands into the pockets of her pants as she walked aimlessly through the city in search of the elusive and mysterious trader who seemed to be more fairytale than reality. Had she misread the message she’d seen? There were several traders throughout all of Johto and many of them were in different cities. Surely, she didn’t mix the Gardener up with someone else? One girl stared at her with wide eyes and pulled on the apron that was tied around her waist. “Oh…no miss…Miss Pacey is trading some Pokemon, but she’s no gardener and she doesn’t have a Purrloin…” She explained, shaking her head heavily.
Mishu paused and blinked several times. Wait…what? “Miss Pacey?” She asked slowly, to which the other person nodded her head firmly. “Yes! She works at the restaurant at the end of this street. It’s sitting there on the corner.” The lady pointed, turning her head to stare through the thick fog in the distance. Mishu slowly nodded her head and turned her attention in the same direction as she squinted and tried to stare through the fog. “What is she trading?” She asked, more to herself than to the other woman. “Her beloved Electrike and Numel. I think she’s done trading now, though…actually…” The lady laughed and turned away with a wave of her hand. “I think I heard about someone trading a couple dark types in New Bark, though!”
Mishu spun around on the tips of her heels to head off towards Route 29 on her way back to New Bark. With every step forward, it seemed like life was dragging her three steps backwards. Had she really mistaken which of these cities the trade she wanted was in? It took her a lot to eventually buy the Ditto from someone especially since the mousy-brown haired teenager she’d managed to buy the Ditto from was very quiet and barely spoke. She had to work slowly with him, getting the young lad to open up and agree to the sale. Then, the way they parted was just as awkward as the strange, quiet kid seemed to just…shuffle off… Maybe that was the nature of teenagers altogether? Had it been that long since she was a teenager herself, that she’d forgotten most of her most awkward phases in life?
Before she could step one foot on Route 29, a man rushed up from behind her and yanked hard on her arm. Ow! She spun around to raise one hand up and pull her other free from his grip but this old man must have had the death grip of a polar bear! No matter how hard she shook or tugged, he only seemed to cling on tighter to her! “Hey there, miss! I don’t recognize you around here, so that must mean you’re new!” His voice piqued up at the top of his lungs. “Well…actually…” But he would cut her off effortlessly at ever turn. “Fret not, miss! I’ll help you along the new journey you’re embarking on!” She sighed, shaking her head as he tugged at her arm and lead her to all the different stops. “I’m not…”
“This here is called a Pokemart!” He explained, tugging her along to the front of a large blue building where a man in a uniform stood outside the doors and waved at them. “They sell all kinds of things that can help you with your journey. Potion to heal your Pokemon, balls to catch wild Pokemon, and items that can help you in battle!” Mishu’s eyes stared at the on-the-clock employee of the Pokemark with a strong ‘please help me’ pleading gaze. As her ‘guide’ pulled harder and lead her off to their next stop, the employee simply shrugged and went back to his job of ‘encourage more people to shop here’. “And this is a Pokemon Center! They can heal your Pokemon if they get too sick or injured and you can use their PCs to switch your Pokemon around in your team!” Guide Gent explained, pointing to a large white building with its red trim, large glass windows, and bright glass doors. He pulled and tugged her to their final stop. “And this is my house! Here’s something for your troubles…it can make your travels go by a lot faster.” He handed Mishu over a pair of shoes that simply did not go with anything she was wearing…Oh…ok?

The travel from New Bark Town was not too bad, but it was a little different having to travel through the cold and wintery weather. Platinum and her Pokemon had traveled on their feet for quite some time and she could feel her feet starting to ache a bit. Her expensive pink boots were cute, but they were not the most comfortable. Luckily, Platinum and her Pokemon would find themselves being invited to join an elderly gentleman for a quick rest and a cup of delicious hot chocolate. He also ordered her some warm cookies, but her newly hatched Swinub popped out of his Poke Ball and devoured them before Monroe and her could even attempt to try one. Platinum had to stop her Pokemon from fighting against each other before she prepared herself to head back out into the cold. Surprisingly, before Platinim and her Pokemon would step outside the door the gentleman stopped her and offered her a pair of running shoes. She thanked the man for his kindness then replaced her boots with the running shoes before finally making her exit out of his house.

Matthew had been surprised to learn just how big of a city Cherrygrove really was. It was surprisingly easy to get lost in the place with its beaches and various connecting routes if you weren't sure where you were going. Luckily, early on to his stay in town he had come across a kind old man that everyone referred to as "the Guide Gent". Matthew had never caught the man's actual name, though the man seemed to revel in his nickname and title, so Matthew had thought better than to question it too much. The Guide Gent had previously shown Matthew around the city, showing him a few locations of importance and advising him about a few areas that might best be avoided unless you were looking for trouble or to be attacked by some wild creature. It had been a fairly insightful conversation, all things considered. Now, Matthew was taking a moment to sit back and rest with the Guide Gent at his relatively humble home. He had spent some time in Cherrygrove and its surrounding area now, but was beginning preparations to leave the city behind. It wouldn't be right to leave without saying goodbye to his new geriatric friend, so he decided to pay him a visit. Have some tea, catch up for a bit, and then hit the road from Cherrygrove one last time. "So what brings you here today, Matty?" asked the older fellow. Matt would bristle a little under the nickname (something he had not agreed to at any point), but he wouldn't begrudge the old man for it. Maybe it was just the man reminding Matthew of old caretakers and servants at his family home in Saffron, but he had developed something of a fondness for the Guide Gent. "I'll actually be heading out from Cherrygrove soon. The place has been great to me, but I gotta hit the road if I'm ever gonna see what else there is to Johto.""I figured it would happen sooner or later. Everyone who passes through Cherrygrove leaves sooner or later; for some it's the Gyms, for some it's to enlist with the International Police. For some it's that damned Rocket gang," the Guide Gent scowled slightly at the mention of the last group, but only momentarily. He was back to cheer and smiling not long after. He and Matthew were sitting on opposite sides of a coffee table, cups of tea sitting between them as their conversation returned to gentler topics. The Gent had a lot to say about Johto and its people, experience to share from his own journeys many, many years ago. When the tea was drank and the Gent satisfied that he had imparted enough stories upon the amateur researcher, Matthew rose from his seat and began saying his goodbyes. As he was setting foot out the door, the Gent called out to him, approaching him with a box. He shoved the box into Matthew's hands, not giving the younger Trainer a chance to decline the gift. "A gift, to help you with your traveling around. A comfortable pair of shoes will get you very far in this life, Matty. Good luck."Matthew smiled, opening the box and finding in it a rather stylish pair of shoes. Surprisingly modern, given the older gentleman's otherwise retro preferences in home decor and lifestyle. "I'll be sure to take good care of them. Goodbye, sir. Next time I'm in town, I'll stop by to check in on you and we can share some stories again."Matthew took the chance to try on his new shoes, testing them with a slight bounce in place. They fit like a glove, and the continued encounters with a friendly local left him feeling a little energized and ready to see what or who else he could come across in his travels. Maybe next time he came to see the Guide Gent, he'd have some more stories of his own to share with the older man?

The usually bright and bustling streets of Cherrygrove – known for their brilliant flowers that were often bursting forth from every stem on every plant that grew along its city streets – were as barren as an abandoned home whose foundation had gave way long ago. The chilly wind spiraled in the air with a horrible sound that seemed to screech through the open alleyways and knocked against the clear glass of the automatic shop doors. Snow littered the ground and piled so high that specialized vehicles would often drive through the streets to clear away the worst of it, so that the citizens that called Cherrygrove could easily drive along their normal routes.
Caribes glowered with narrowed eyes and walked slowly along the barren streets with their hands stuffed into the pockets of their thick winter coat. They would occasionally tug on the coat’s thick collar to make sure it was pressed snuggly against their necks, only to quickly slam their hands back into the pockets shortly after. It was unbearable. Simply the worst weather to ever exist spread itself across Cherrygrove in a thick blanket and smothered out all signs of life for miles. Caribes’ sharp orange eyes would take in the few people who hurried from one building to the next. They noticed as a young couple hopped into a beat up Porsche and rubbed their hands together as though that would help them generate heat while they waited for their vehicle’s heater to warm them up. Pfft. What a stupid expectation. Something that must have happened naturally – like driving home from work on autopilot.
Whatever. An elderly man stopped Caribes on the spot and pulled his hands out of his jackets to greet the Rocket Grunt hopeful with a wide smile. “Hello there! Welcome to Cherrygrove!” Caribes turned away from him with a scorned look and brushed past him. What was this elderly fool thinking? Out in the midst of this impending snowstorm, greeting every stranger that wandered across his path? Did his parents never teach him about ‘stranger danger’ when we was young? “Whatever it is you’re selling, I’m not buying.” Caribes cursed him softly and spat onto the snow near their shoes, before squashing the spit into the snow with their sneakers. The elderly man just shook his head sadly and turned away slightly. “I’m not selling anything…you looked like you were new here. I give free tours to new tra-“ But Caribes cut him off quickly. “Look at me, gramps. What about my greyed hairline and wrinkled face looks like a ‘new trainer’ to you? I’ve just…fallen on hard times.”
They would separate in a disagreement but not before Caribes overheard the gentleman mention the running shoes that he gave to the travelers in the area. Now, a smarter person would quickly change their tune and apologize for such a golden prize! But the weather dimmed Caribes’ mind into simple slush. Instead, they pretended to ignore the elderly man until they managed to get a safe distance away then called their Pokemon out of their respective Poke Balls. “That old fool is giving shoes to anyone. And not just any shoes at all – the top of the line running shoes! So here’s what we’re gonna do…” They explained to their Pokemon, who looked to each other with a confused expression before each would run off to their stations.
While Babadook and Chuckie snuck into different houses and slipped around, checking for signs of anything worth taking, Scizzorhands worked with Kayako to watch over the elderly man to ensure he wasn’t getting close to them. When Caribes’ and their Pokemon finally found the Guide Gent’s house – with a lot of whispered profanities as they slipped in through a shimmied open window, fell on their head crawling in, and tripped over some stacked boxes – Vetril would jump in front of the Gent to distract him with a beautifully hand crafted drawing in the snow. By the time the Guide Gent would finally make it back home, Caribes would slip back out of the house and out of Cherrygrove, down the nearest route whistling happily about his luck. “I say, gang! We’ve scored big with this one!” Caribes promised them, no longer upset about the freezing cold environment they had to walk through.
