Name: Keith Austyn
Age: 18
Gender: Male
Trainer Type: Average Pokemon Trainer, but he's more than willing to dabble into other things, such as contests, to see if they'd be his cup of tea.
Hometown: Goldenrod City
Appearance:
[Tōru Oikawa, Haikyuu!!]Keith's appearance is definitely one that people would describe as 'carefree.' His hair is long and unruly, and while he does ensure that it's not greasy, he doesn't really do anything with it beyond brush it over to the side - the right or left, decided entirely at random. He also takes care to maintain his face, ensuring that it doesn't break out - a daunting task, given his age. Keith's eyes, unfortunately, are nothing really special - a dark brown shade, with tints of green at the very end of them; the greens are hard to notice unless you know what you're looking for. In the way of muscle or real physical ability at all, Keith is definitely lackluster. While he does have height, clocking in a solid 5 feet and ten inches, he doesn't have the muscle to make him particularly imposing-looking.
You can't really tell Keith that he has much variety in his wardrobe. In warmer temperatures, his attire consists entire of brightly-colored tank tops or t-shirts, with the most common color being a sky blue, a salmon color that is often mistaken for pink, and white. His shorts, on the other hand, will rarely deviate from khakis. In colder temperatures, while he won't change from his t-shirts if he can help it, the short khakis are replaced with either blue jeans, white pants or... longer khakis. If the temperature calls for him, Keith also has a jacket stored away. The primary part of the jacket is white, with a light blue line coming up from the sides to the collar. The jacket his two rather spacious pockets on the sides.
Slung over Keith's shoulder is usually a messenger bag that contains any excess Pokeballs, miscellaneous items, or changes of clothes. His pokeballs are instead kept on the strap of the bag, which Keith has outfitted with much the same mechanism as most Trainers use on their belts.
Personality: One of the first things someone would notice about Keith is how overwhelmingly cheerful he is. Chances are, if you tried to approach him, you would be met with a grin, laugh, and an introduction. Keith treats almost anyone who isn't antagonistic as an old friend, whether they want him to or not. This makes me him pretty easy to approach and ask questions to. That said, Keith also has a stubborn streak. Chances are, if you try to get in an argument with you, he'll keep arguing with you for hours on end without losing his 'cheerful' facade. Keith's stubbornness knows no bounds - he'd probably try and argue with someone even when it's blatantly obvious that he's in the wrong.
For the lack of a better word, Keith is very, very lazy. While he did start the adventure of his own initiative and is dedicated to his goal of becoming a skillful Trainer, he'd much rather sit back and watch everyone else do... basically everything else. Keith is very placid and slow to be angered, and when he does finally explode, it's typically very brief before he calms down and resumes his time of idling about everywhere. Keith is also not really one for sports. While he figured he could be decent at them if he put in the time and effort, he usually won't because it 'sounds like a lot of work.'
For all of his efforts to be a powerful Pokemon Trainer, Keith actually doesn't have any natural talent as a Trainer and typically a notch below other Trainers of the same strength. That said, Keith is a very firm believer that talent is something that someone forces to grow via determination, and, as such, continues his journey emotionally unhindered by his lack of talent, attempting to make up for what he lacks with raw determination and effort.
History: Born in the bustling and busy Goldenrod City to two mid-high income parents, from a pretty young age, Keith actually very little interest in training Pokemon. While they were typically the craze for every other kid in the area, Keith couldn't have cared less about the poor little creatures. His attention was usually everywhere else - Finding out how the latest sports were going, getting his grades up, or even just learning to cook. From a young age, Keith became slightly knowledgeable in a variety of areas, but one thing become abundantly clear - For all of his efforts, Keith wasn't actually good at any of the things he tried. He could make an alright soup, but he couldn't make a good soup; he could make an alright hit in baseball, but he could never hit it like someone who practiced as hard as he did should be able to.
This lack of talent in most areas would continue to plague him as he got older. He got an average of Bs in all of his classes, and while he could have made most sports teams if he tried out for them, he probably wouldn't be a regular and would instead by a substitute. As such, rather than waste his efforts, Keith instead spent his time developing the laid-back and lazy personality that he has to this day. He'd walk and talk with whatever club he felt up to hanging out with and would help out if he could, but he never really put forth any effort or tried to become a regular with them.
That said, as his 18th birthday approached, Keith happened to flipping around channels on TV until he happened across something that piqued his interest somewhat - A battle of the Pokemon variety. Some Trainer, whose name Keith could not recall for the life of him now, was challenging a Gym Leader for his eighth and final badge. If nothing else, the battle managed to pique Keith's curiosity. While it was gradual, Keith would begin to look more and more into the Pokemon craze that his peers had always been so entertained by, until his passing curiosity grew into an interest in the topic. And so, when his 18th birthday finally came around, Keith decided that, for his present, he wanted to give the Pokemon training thing a go. He wanted to try being a Trainer.
Goals: While he doesn't necessarily want to be the very best, because he doubts that he can at his current point, Keith at least wants to become a formidable Pokemon Trainer. While he travels, he also wants to try and decide what exactly it is he's looking to do with his life beyond lazing around and drifting aimlessly.
