The hail continued to blast down as Thorn climbed the final hill overlooking Cherrygrove city. She let out a sigh of relief. Between dodging the hail, when it shattered, it made the ground slippery too. Which made it that much more difficult. However, she understand her journey would have hardships and good times. She tugged at her necklace charm and smiled as she raced down the slope. The sun was starting to set, and the moon was starting to rise. The young trainer yawned, as she made her first steps into the city.
Lights illuminated the area casting dark shadows, the girl preferred night to day, and she would have to get herself on that schedule. Sleep during the day Travel at night… She walked the semi empty streets, her eyes scanning for the Pokemon Center. The last time she was here she was just a little girl. It had been ages. She remembered the people being very welcoming. In the distance she saw the red roof and a smile went ear to ear. She ran forward, the doors opening quickly.
She saw the computer phone and went to it immediately. Her fingers delicately touched the numbers. She knew it was late in Blackthorn, but still hoped her mother would answer. She waited a few moments, and then the other line picked up. On the other end of the screen was an older woman with black and gray hair. Her hair tossed in a bun wearing black pjs.
“Goodness Thorn….do you know what time it is?”
“Yes mom sorry I just wanted to check in…how are the Dragon Pokemon?”
“You called me just to ask how the Dragon Pokemon were? Well Axew and Druddigon are fine. How is your journey? Did you read my letter? Made any new friends?”
“I have Leo my Squirtle, and I just caught a rattata his name is Shifu. It feels so odd to be away from home you know…its not the same…”
Thorns mom gave her a look of sympathy. She knew what her daughter was going through with the loss of her espeon. And the elders of Blackthorn wouldn’t let Thorn take any Dragon Pokemon with her either. A new journey meant a new start. No cheats.
“Well Thorn, I didn’t expect it to be. Johto is not Unova you know. Its good to start Fresh. Your espeon would want this for you. Try not to cling to the past, after all the past is the past, and the time is now.”
Thorn smiled placing her hand on the screen. Her mother always had the best words that cheered her up. She saw a few other trainers enter the Pokemon Center and knew they would be wanting to sleep, and being on the phone would be a nuisance she knew this. She sighed looking at her mother. She just had to make it to Blackthorn. She knew her mom was sick, she looked frail on the other line.
“I should probably go, I think the trainers here want to sleep”
“Okay Thorn, You should head to Violet City. That’s where the first gym is. It would more than likely do you some good. Take care, be safe, and call me when you reach Violet City.”
The other end of the screen went black and the trainer sighed. Violet City was so far away and there was still a lot to explore. Despite being trampled by hail, and running around, Thorn Couldn’t find herself wanting to sleep. Instead, she left the Pokemon Center to walk the city. She figured that would be the best way to clear her head. With a Pokeball in both hands, two red beams hit the city streets. Her squirtle and now Rattata walked beside her.
“I can’t sleep well…thanks for keeping me company” She whispered. Her two Pokemon gave a yawn, shaking their bodies awake. Her eyes seemed to lose focus as she thought about her goals and future.
