With the challenger taking a short break to recall his Golett, Pidgeotto started to circle the arena restlessly. The Flying type watched Damien all the time, as if it were anxious to resume the battle as soon as it could. Its eagerness didn’t go unnoticed by its own trainer. “Well, Damien, it would appear that you have my Pidgeotto’s approval so far, if his face is anything to go by.” Falkner commented, stifling a laugh. His eyes returned to the opponent as a new Pokéball flew out in front of him. A very easily-recognised blue turtle popped out, smiling and stretching its muscles. Falker’s eyes widened at the evolved form’s appearance, knowing the power of a Wartortle well enough. “A good call, for certain, but I think you’re downplaying your Wartortle’s offensive capabilities. I’ve faced these many times in the past, and I know that they’re powerful. Pidgeotto, show this one some respect. For all we know, it’ll know Ice Beam.” Falkner finished, recalling the earlier Ice Fang that had shocked him so. Pidgeotto froze in place at the mention of the Ice-typed move, flashbacks of previous bad experiences flooding its mind. It nodded timidly to acknowledge the Gym Leader’s words. Falkner sensed his partner’s unease and immediately spoke again. “All we can do is anticipate the worst and give our best in return, so try not to worry about it. Instead, reduce Turret’s accuracy just as before with a Mud Slap!” Still clearly unsettled by the idea of the powerful, Super Effective move being a factor in this battle, Pidgeotto nodded its head once more and closed in on the arena floor. Reaching the solid earth beneath it once more, Pidgeotto made a sharp ninety degree turn and glided swiftly across the stadium. The speed of the evolved bird was rather overwhelming to the newly released Turret, who could only stare in amazement with his mouth agape at the sight before him. As it approached, Pidgeotto dragged its talons across the floor, causing a low scratching sound to rumble through the otherwise-quiet stadium. Lifting its eyes to pinpoint Turret, Pidgeotto then slashed the air between the two of them, a heap of mud careering from its feet and into the Wartortle’s face. Turret shouted loudly in shock, trying to shake his head clean of the filth that had just coated his eyes. “Now, Pidgeotto, a Gust before he can react!” Falkner yelled hastily. Pidgeotto gave a shrill cry and flapped its wings as soon as it heard this order. Another high-powered storm woke in the stadium, lifting dirt and debris from the floor and striking both Damien and his Pokémon. Turret took the brunt of the wind’s force, resisting it better than his allies had earlier. Once the gale died down, he returned to trying to clean out his eyes. Specks of dirt flew away from him, but not nearly enough to enable him to see clearly again. Realising this, Turret gave up on restoring his vision and ran in the direction that he had last seen Pidgeotto in. Growling, he opened his mouth to reveal a surprisingly sharp set of teeth. Hearing a flutter of wings, the Turtle Pokémon bit down powerfully on what he assumed to be Pidgeotto. The Flying type roared in pain as its leg was clamped, shaking its lower half as fast as it could to try and free itself. Turret refused to let go, however, a smile now starting to form on its lips. After a few seconds, he released his grip and allowed the bird to take back off into the sky. Falkner said absolutely nothing, his mind already turning to his next move. VS. Leader Falkner

Turret wasn't the only one who stood in amazement of the pidgeotto's splendor; though perhaps Damien was the only one with which a cold shiver accompanied the feeling. The gust of winds that was whipped up around his turtle pokémon were the strongest he'd ever seen. Ripples of the windy torrent lacing through the field and breezing by the trainers standing at the ends of the stadium. Quiet words escaped him. A renewed hint of worry. Had Falkner been holding back before? Were his other pokémon just a warmup for this monster bird?
The ranger clenched his fists harder to regain focus. He couldn't lose his nerve now; Turret would never let him hear the end of it. "Wet those feathers, Turret. Use Water Gun!" Damien called to the wartortle. Sadly he had no way to recover accuracy or slow the bird down, but they could be a bit of a nuisance by making it more of a chore to soar around the room by adding some extra water weight. With any luck it'd keep the avian in better range for Turret's other close range attacks. Too bad the ranger hadn't even thought of looking into ice moves for his starter. A more strategic, or experienced, trainer probably would have waltzed in here with that sort of advantage but Damien... Damien hadn't thought passed getting over his mild fear of the feathered beasts. When Booker fell into his lap it was practically a blessing.

Well, that was certainly not something that Faulkner was expecting. Though, based on the commands, the leader was able to surmise that the turtle did not know the proclaimed Ice based attack. But it could be a false sense of security! He couldn't risk it. "Pidgeotto, give it another Mud-Slap, for good measure!" He called out, after hearing the proclaimed Water Gun. Not good. Even still, Pidgeotto was fast and quickly arose from the ground with another mud ball clenched in its talons. It swooped by quickly, even kicking up some dirt before slinging the mud into Turret's eyes. But the retreat was not quick enough. Turret's water gun found its mark and blasted Pidgeotto right out of the sky! Drenched down to the bone, Pidgeotto does manage to regain itself, a little 'coo' while balancing back to its feet. Both wings were spread to keep it up as the damage it starting to wear on it. VS. Leader Falkner

"Yes! Good job, Turret," the ranger encouraged his blue turtle. Despite yet another slap of mud in the face his wartortle was able to get a good blast of water to hit the bird. Maybe the moisture would help clear out some of that sand and dirt bothering his pokémon's eyes; though it was more likely to just give easier fuel for the mud slap.
The pidgeotto, and Falkner, weren't like to give any time to clear away the specks agitating poor Turret's eyes though. "Use Water Gun again! One more good hit and we've got this so just take your time to aim," came his instructions. Admittedly the adrenaline was flowing thoroughly through his veins at this point, making him rather antsy for the climax of this fight. He knew Turret would be about the same; itching to land the final blow and win. They had a bit of time to spare, something Turret would likely need with the layers of mud coating his face, but not a ton. The gym leader's pokémon was no slouch and was wearing Turret down. The gusts and sticky slaps of grime weren't highly damaging but their effect would build up. Already his watery partner was notably feeling the bruises as he scuttled around.
He was so close! Just one more, one more attack needed to land and he would win his first badge. "Keep at it," he added confidently as he stood on the sidelines of the battling pokémon.

Falkner couldn't help but give a little smile, for Damien nor did Turret know his secret move. One that was hardly seen in the wild "fighting well Damien, but sadly we will not go down so easily." he boosted willfully. Falkner maybe a happy and calm male outside of battle, watching his bird type Pokemon soar to there best is what really got him going. "Ok, Pidgeotto roost!" his Pidgeotto stopped hovering above the air and landed calmly on the ground and started to glow a bright yellow before shaking it off and flying above the battle field again. Pidgeotto seemed to have been given a new bill of health, and was ready to fight. Turret first of all seemed a bit annoyed by it all, but he managed to regain him self a fire a water spray at his flying foe. Oddly enough to looked like it did more damage the round before. But Falkner almost looked pleased, with how this fight was going. Lets hope Turret can hold on. VS. Leader Falkner

Another surprise trick! Damien was taken aback when the ruffled feathers of the pidgeotto glowed a bright yellow as it seated itself albeit momentarily. Once the light had faded it looked refreshed, and wasted no time in soaring back into the air to look down upon the field. Fierce eyes scanning below, Turret still managed to catch the fast moving avian with a shot of water.
"You're prepared for everything!" Damien exasperated, a little awed by just how good Falkner was. With a move like that in reserve, and pidgeotto always moving first, Turret would need to land a really good hit in order to take it down. But Damien wasn't dissuade from trying to win this thing. If anything it made it even more exciting. "But we're not done yet either." He smiled, taking another look at the opposing pokémon as he lightly bit his lip. This was risky but... he needed more damage and accuracy.
The ranger grabbed Turret's pokéball and recalled his trusty partner, deftly sliding the ball back onto his belt and snatching up a new one. "Come on out Bear!" he yelled as the female snover appeared waving her bushy hands in the air and cooing happily. "You weren't the only one with one last surprise, though normally she'd be at just as much disadvantage as your pidgeotto when pitted against one another. But I'd say right now she's probably a good response to that Roost of yours."
This next round could swing either way. Bearithusa certainly had a type advantage and mud free eyes to overcome another Roost, but a good solid gust could just as well be the snover's end too. Damien tingled with adrenaline as he wondered what Falkner would do now. He knew what he was doing. "Let's shake things up with an Icy Wind!" he called excitedly, throwing his arm out to indicate the encircling bird. The arm was quickly brought back to rub his cheek as the hailstorm started up. He'd forgotten about that ability. Bearithusa shivered cheerily as she got into serious [not really] combat mode, reveling in the chill of the air she herself caused completely unaware of anyone else's discomfort.

Hearing that Damien have his share of surprise too, Falkner almost had let his guard down from fighting that Golurk and Wartortle. Could it be another annoying electric type Pokemon?... Whatever that he would send out next, Falkner decided to have his Pokemon go on the defensive again to be prepared for whatever comes next. "Pidgeotto, Roost again!" The bird once more elegantly slowed to a stop on the ground, and its body glowed in bright light as it recovered some more health to endure Damien's surprise party. After the Snover appeared, the air in the area felt cold, freezing even. Even though the gym was pretty much indoor, a makeshift cloud was born from the Snover's ability, using the condensation in the air and flow of air from air condition, and hail began forming in the area. Then, Falkner hurried and ordered his Pokemon to use Gust to counter the wind. The swirling tornado-like wind beat the first blast of icy wind from Bear and hurled the poor grass type in the process, but Bear just got up and sent out a chilly blast of wind toward the Pidgeotto. The Pidgeotto shivered for a bit from the cold, and then with a few chunks of ice hitting from the makeshift clouds, the flying type Pokemon passed out. Seeing that his Pokemon had been defeated, Falkner took a second to process that and returned his Pidgeotto, thanking his feathery friend for giving its best. Then, he smirked and went to pick up a box of reward that a gym aide had put together for the winner. Picking up the box himself and then walking toward Damien, he smiled, "Very Well, Damien. You have given me a great battle as well. Here are your prizes for defeating my gym challenge. It was my pleasure giving your Pokemon a hard time and also meeting your interesting Pokemon. Your next challenge should be in the next town over, Azalea Town. The gym leader there won't be easy though."

Bearithusa was ecstatic in the fight, practically dancing around as she was knocked about in the gusty bird's attack and sending chilling winds herself. But even with the energy put into her attacks it was clear what had been the deciding factor: the hail. While the snover's higher damage output thanks to the cold's effectiveness versus the pidgeotto made the recovery move nothing but a momentary stall, the avian's speed might still have won it the match. But, the extra tiny bits of damage sustained from the icy pellets summoned by Damien's pokémon ensured that there wasn't another turn.
He was rather impressed with himself, despite consciously he'd completely forgotten about Bear's ability. The young lad cheered alongside his little frost tree, the waddling snover scurrying back with her bushy hands raised awaiting a high five for her efforts. The ranger complied, of course, receiving a freezing rough smack on his hands before she resumed her own little victory celebrations. Luckily he was wearing gloves, a thought passing through his mind as he rubbed his palms together and brought his attention back to Falkner.
"Thank you, Falkner!" he replied excitedly, perhaps a little loudly considering the guy was standing right in front of him. "This battle was a great learning experience. I don't think I would have won without the type advantages, one more go and your pidgeotto could've had Bear fainted."
Damien accepted the box graciously, opening it up to spy the shining badge among the other winnings. Eagerly picking it up between his thumb and forefinger he raised it out of his shadow to admire for a few moments before slipping it into a clutched fist and dropping his gaze back to the bird trainer. "I'm familiar with Bugsy, as Azalea is my home town. I haven't met him in person but the way everyone talked about him I know not to underestimate his bug pokémon. We'll be ready!" The snover gave an uproar for emphasis.
"Good luck in your next challenge. Hopefully you get something more exciting than an electric type," he added with a smile. Damien returned Bearithusa to her pokéball and waved good-bye to Falkner before taking his leave of the gym.
