The inexperienced gym leader and his evolved flying-type Pokemon still had one large advantage over the higher-leveled Wooper. The speed of the Pidgeotto was much greater than the Wooper's, and that could be just what Falkner needed to defeat Megan and her Pokemon. The speed of the Pidgeotto made it almost certain that Falkner's attacks would land before Megan's, giving him a large and speedy advantage. He listened as the trainer called out to her Wooper to use Water Gun. In quick response, Falkner directed his Pidgeotto attack. "Now, Pidgeotto!" Falkner said. "Hit that Wooper with a Sand Attack!"Falkner hoped the hit from the Sand Attack would help to lower the Wooper's ability to land accurate attacks upon his Pidgeotto. The Pidgeotto flew quickly at the Wooper, and before it could even hit the flying Pokemon with its Water Gun attack, the Pidgeotto had kick sand right into the Wooper's face. Where the sand had came from? The Pidgeotto had been too quick for anyone to have actually been able to tell, but before anyone knew, the Pidgeotto had kicked it up right at the Wooper. Before the Pidgeotto could get away from the Wooper, though, Peacheti landed a large Water Gun attack right onto the Pidgeotto. Although it wasn't a very strong attack, it still was capable of dealing some damage to the gym leader's Pokemon. I can't lose... Falkner thought to himself. These are my father's Pokemon. I may not be as strong as my father was, but I cannot allow them to lose. I will not let my father down. "Nice attack Pidgeotto!" Falkner said, commending his Pokemon for the perfectly executed Sand Attack it had landed. Falkner then spoke to the trainer and her un-evolved Wooper. "Once a Pokemon evolves, its stats grow. Pidgeotto's speed is even greater than that of a Pidgey, after having evolved from that same Pokemon!" Megan knew the disadvantage she was at with the fast flying pokemon against her, but she believed in her team and knew that they could do it. Peacheti was hit with another Sand Attack but the sand in her eyes did not deter the little Wooper from landing another Water Gun attack on the avian.
Megan gave a little fist pump "Way to go Peacheti" she said as well as if the little water pokemon had defeated the larger avian already. "Let's keep it up!" She said smiling.
Megan heard Falkners words on an evolved Pokemon "I see, well let's hope it's ego wasn't also boosted with it's evolution" she chuckled to herself thinking she was funny as she had seen the Pidgeotto ruffle it's feathers a few times before.
"Peacheti, another Water Gun and soak 'em this time!" She said a funny glint in her eye as she was gaining a little more confidence as the battle wore on.

Even with the Sand Attack lowering Peacheti's accuracy Falkner knew he would have to try and do some damage if he was going to win this battle anytime soon. He had faith that the reduced accuracy would protect Pidgeotto this round and so he decided it was the right time to go on the offensive. " I can say Pigeotto is a bit more confident than Pidgey but as far as ego goes we will just have to see. Pidgeotto try a Gust attack so we can try to weaken that Wooper little by little." He said as the bird Pokemon summoned a small gust sending various debris towards the young Wooper. Being partially blinded was bad enough but now the young Pokemon was getting pelted by sand and rocks kicked up by the gust. Things did not look so great at first but Peacheti was not going to give up after one good attack. She took in a deep breath then fired a small amount of water at Pidgeotto who was not expecting her to strike back so quickly but the revenge strike did not quite match Pidgeotto's strength allowing Falkner to avoid drastic measures for now. " That was a good hit but as you can see Pidgeotto's boosted stats really come in handy, evolution is not always a good thing but in this case it is the main reason Pidgeotto is edging out this battle right now." Even with his confidence being at a high level the young gym leader was far from securing victory and he knew he could not afford to make too many mistakes as Pidgeotto had no replacements. " Let's see what you can do in this next round as your Wooper still has reduced accuracy at the moment." He said as the next round was about to begin. Battle

One Pokemon down. she still had six more on her hip. Peacheti doing a splendid job in whittling down the larger birds health. Budew would make no sense to bring out in this battle it would be an easy pick off for the gym leader, and bringing Perdu out made no sense so in reality her team consisted of Peacheti, Corla, and Flamemare. Two water, and a fire. Before battle Megan decided that Flamemare was only if things were absolutely dire, and at the moment she though the two water types would be able to hold out this battle.
Pidgeotto's gust did some damage to the small water Pokemon, as well as kicking up more dust and debri into it's petite frame. Megan heard Falkner say "Let's see what you can do in this next round as your Wooper still has reduced accuracy at the moment." Was Falkner trying to taunt her or attempting to give her advice in the form of obvious battle details, Megan wasn't quite sure his tactic anymore from her earlier boost of confidence and praise.
"Alright Peacheti, I know you're having a hard time locking in on that Pidgeotto but I need you to give a good Tail Whip alright?" Megan said to the Whooper, hoping she understood to try her best and they would deal with the situation at hand as it was dealt to them.

Falkner did his best to hide it but he felt nervous, it was a big responsibility to be a gym leader and he hadn't quite gotten the confidence yet, nor understood his biggest goal was to test the trainers and motivate them to become stronger, and not just win all the battles. He worried he would make a mistake and be a disgrace of a gym leader, and everybody would look down upon him, and, and.. he cut off the thought and turned to the practical of the battle. That part he could easily handle. "So you are trying to get to hit harder? Since it doesn't work well with Water Gun, you must have some other sort of plan you are trying to put to use," Falkner continued his analysis, trying to guess what Megan was going to do before she did it, and counter it before it would cost him the battle. "I don't know what it is going to be so the only way we can try stop it is by taking you out before you are ready," He continued and Pidgeotto rolled its eyes impatiently. It really tested its patience having to work with the unsure young gym leader compared to the father who had trained it. The bird had promised to stay at Falkner's side though, so it did its best to endure it. "Use another Gust Pidgeotto!" Falkner finally ordered and the bird quickly went to work. Peacheti staggered as the wind beat around her again, pushing her here and there but she managed to stay on her feet and she waved her tail around the best she could. Only then did she realize that Pidgeotto couldn't see her tail in the direction she was facing since it was right in front of her and not very high up. It looked plussled at her as it wondered what she was doing. Battle

Falkner was trying to analyze her game. Really she had none. This was her first Gym battle, and while she had battled other trainers and pokemon battling someone who already had years of experience was not something she had really come across in her travels yet. He knew that by weakening her tear he had the best shot and defeating her and sending her dreams down the river and she needed to bolster up her attempts. Hearing him call for Pidgeotto to use another gust she hoped that Peacheti could get in one more Tail Whip before she would switch her out.
But things do not always go according to hopes. While Peacheti tried with her might her lowered accuracy in the wind storm that the large bird created was too much for her and she was not able to land her move until the bird was already out of her reach.
Megan called her back and sighed disappointedly in her past leadership as a trainer. "You did well Peacheti, I'm sorry I was not more calculative. Rest please," she said as she pulled the Wooper's Pokeball off her hip and retracted her in a flash of red. Megan did not want to call out Wildfire yet so she grabbed her first Pokeball off her hip and held it in her hands for a moment. "Alright, Corla it's you and me. Let's do this as a team like always."
Corla popped out of her Pokeball in a flash and surveyed her surroundings. "Okay, let's start off with a Bubble attack and see how that goes! I know we have this together!"
A little spark back in her eyes as she and Corla, the only pokemon on her team she had been together for so much was by her side.

That a trainer could come to his gym without any plan at hand, was not what Falkner expected, unless it was a kid with one or two pokemon who didn't know a thing about training at all. Falkner tended to get a few challengers of that and he had dealt with them quickly. He licked his lips a nervously as he found it really hard to guess what Megan was up to and make sure he lived up to his fathers name and didn't dishonor the gym. It was a lot of responsibility which was put on his young shoulders. Falkner tensed when Megan recalled Peacheti, was it now she would set in motion her plan? "Be ready Pidgeotto, hit whatever comes out with a Mud-slap," Falkner warned, and only half wondered about the bit of Megan's apologize he had been able to hear. She had wanted to be more calculative which had to mean his expectations of her setting something up to win it all was right! What popped out of Megan's pokeball was another water type, and Falkner briefly wondered if he was facing a water specialist, just like he preferred flying types, until he remembered the poochyena she had used first. Pidgeotto was ready and Corla barely got to materialize before she got a fistful of mud straight in the face. The bird didn't wait for Falkner to give a new order and quickly followed its first attack with another, and a gust whipped around the wartortle. Corla was pretty skilled though and she managed to keep her focus anyway and soon bubbles flew through the air and knocked the bird out of balance, forcing it to flap hard to regain it and stay airborne. Falkner had seen quite surprised when Pidgeotto had moved on its own, and he looked a bit uncertain now. "Good job Pidgeotto," he called out but with a tone that made the bird realize what it had done and it looked guilty. It might be the most experienced of the two but it had promised to support the boy with this work, and running the show alone didn't do any good. Battle

Megan knew she probably should have kept on the trail a little longer and leveled up her team a little bit more but there was nothing she could do now and in the midst of battle lingering on those sorts of thoughts was not good to keep the match at hand in front of her. She new she didn't have much of an advantage with her team and she just needed to out smart the Gym Leader.
Megan's fists balled up as the Pidgeotto went for a Mud-Slap to gust combo. Typical. Her eyes glanced up at the LED screen in the gym momentarily to see the damage that was awarded either party. What she did know is that Falkner and Pidgeotto were famous for using Roost when things got tight and she wanted to attempt to avoid that at all costs, she and her team were weary enough as it was from this battle already.
Her brain was calculating every possible attack she could do right now, staring down at her feet she remembered what the kind Gentleman told her about the shoes. She moved her toes and bit and looked at Corla calculating if her plan would work.
"Okay Corla we're going to try this." She took a deep breath, "Corla, Bubble attack on the double!" She instructed and watched with wide eyes all while praying to whatever diety exists in this world please don't miss, please don't miss, please don't miss.

If Megan wanted to avoid Falkner using Roost, she should probably have thought of some tactic which could stop that move or disrupt healing. The gym leader was thinking about the move as well, it was tempting to use to keep going but he also knew he had to use it at the right time. Was it now? Megan had spent quite some time lowered Pidgeotto's defense but she kept using special attacks like bubble which confused him and made him uncertain. He was certain a skilled looking trainer like she had something up her sleeve and he worried he was falling into a trap without noticing, he didn't dare to think she just hadn't planned it through as much as she perhaps could, she wasn't a rambunctious youngster. "Pidgeotto, use Roost," Falkner decided, he wanted to be on the safe side and this would buy him some time while he figured out what Megan was up to. Hopefully it wasn't too late. Pidgeotto clearly was surprised of that order and it looked at him in disbelief. It still felt great and had a lots of energy left, no need to use it now. Falkner looked sternly at it and it resigned to do as ordered and landed to take care of its feathers. It left it wide open to Corla's attack but she still almost missed it as she hadn't expected it to land. Pidgeotto, Quick! Gust to blow those bubbles away! Falkner urged as Corla sent another batch at them. This was an order the bird could stand behind! Clever and would take the opponent by surprise, just like Falkner's father had did so many times. Still standing on the ground it beat its wings hard and the wind it made forced the bubbles to turn and fly back at Corla! Battle

Fists clenched as she witnessed the battle take place in front of her eyes. Corla was just too slow on her first attack and Falkner was able to get a Roost in out of Pidgeotto. Well Damn. "You guys can do this Megan, you've got this." She whispered to herself as she watched Corla's bubble attack successfully land. "Should have gone with a defensive tactic first now that I think about it again." She mulmbled to herself. Two more attacked played out infront of her eyes Pidgeotto getting a gust attack in on Corla and with her already damaged accuracy and then the gust attack threw her off and her second bubble attack just didn't meet it's opponent. "It's alright girl, you worked hard" the female trainer soothed the Wartortle when she made it back before her next attack.
"Seems like I underestimated the son of the Gym Leader here. You are a formidible start to the gym badges." Megan praised Falkner on his quick wit. "Seems we're pretty equal here. In this match." The young trainer mused.
Megan turned to her Wartortle "I know you're accuracy is a little down, so whatever next move that Pidgeotto uses again use I want you to not let it effect you. Use a tail whip let's see if we can lower their defenses and then we'll win this together by smarts" this was how she was going to win. Outsmart him.

Falkner grinned at Megan's words and he straightened ever so slightly, it was a boost to his confidence that his order with the Gust had worked but also that Megan had recognized it. Her comment of them being equal even then, both confirmed that he was doing his job in giving her a good challenge but also worried him a bit that she still felt she had a good chance. she had something up his sleeve which he hadn't figured out yet. "Thank you, we're doing our best, but a lot of it is my father's training which I'm grateful for," Falkner said humble, he had flying types he had trained from when he was young but they were far as strong as the ones his father had worked with. "I'd say you are not an easy opponent either, you really forces me to think!" He returned the praise and it was true but mostly because the majority of challengers Falkner got seemed to be kids with a pidgey and rattata who didn't even get past his first pokemon. Continue with the Gust Pidgeotto, wear it down and we will win this, he said with far more confidence than he felt, it had looked good when it blew the bubbles away but he hadn't been blind to the little effect it had had otherwise. It was the same this time, Corla's shell protected her pretty well against the wind which buffered her and she turned to wag her tail at the bird. Falkner frowned, it seemed like Megan was really eager to lower Pidgeotto's defenses and make it relax but she kept using ranged attacks instead. Falkner couldn't believe that Megan would mess up that much and not know the difference so she had to have a plan. "She must prepare for another pokemon," he said with a snap of his fingers when he realized. What it was only time would tell, hopefully it would be something where his tactic with lowered accuracy of his opponent would still be useful. Battle

Success! A successful Tail Whip, why hadn't she thought of this until now? She could have had the battle over and done with moves ago. A trainer is always learning, that she remembered. At this point Megan knew what she had to do in preparation for the possibility of another Roost from Falkner. Hoping that Corla could land another attack and that her accuracy was still strong enough despite the previous sand-attack.
Corla had returned to Megan's side a little more buffeted from the wind of the Pidgeotto's last gust attack but still in high spirits. "Think you can go one more round?" Megan asked with a smile. There were days she wished she could hear what her pokemon's response was to her, and other days she was glad she couldn't because they probably were talking about how slow minded and an idiot their trainer can be sometimes.
"Alright girl, let's give it one more tail-whip." she said loudly before whispering "and then you can have a break, you did well, give it your all." She cheered in a moment just between the two of them.

Falkner couldn't help but smile as he saw the bond that Megan clearly shared with Corla, it was typical for trainers to have that with their pokemon, especially the ones they had had for a long time. It didn't make Falkner any less happy to see, and when the challengers were a real team who supported and carried each other through, it often helped them to overcome what he put up against them. It was a mile in difference from the ones who had caught a mareep just an hour before going into the gym and then expecting the poor sheep to do it all on its own. They had rarely been any trouble for him to handle and most often the trainer learned their lesson and actually trained their pokemon before challenging again. Falkner smiled dryly to himself when he heard Megan promising Corla to get a rest soon and then start another tail waving, he had guessed her tactic by now and just needed to find a way around it. He decided he couldn't do much before this other pokemon changed in and then hopefully he could rattle her plan and still turn it around to his advantage. "Pidgeotto, Gust! Give it all you got!" He ordered, if nothing else then Corla would have a harder time later on if she was sent back in again later on. The pidgeotto sent the wind whirling around but was getting tired and it could be seen, Corla pulled her head inside her shell and waited it out, before she waved her tail and smiled kindly to it. "You can't hide forever, and I'm able to regain my strength again," Pidgeotto called to her challenging as this seemed pretty easy to it now. She just kept hiding and waved at it as if she wanted to be friends. Battle

Megan heard Falkner order for another gust, but as long as her plan worked he was already backed into a corner. Pidgeotto's wind buffeted Corla as she hid herself from the worst of the wind. She used her tail whip attack before coming out of her shell glaring at the Pidgeotto "you better be ready for the rest of the plan." Corla winked before returning to her trainers side.
Megan's hand rested on the Wortortles head before grabbing her pokeball from her hip, enlarging it and engulfing the turtle pokemon into it's space. "So you might have already figured out by now that I was waiting to change pokemon until now. Wildfire, please join us on the battlefield."
Megan tossed the pokeball out and in a flash her Pontya was standing in the arena. Wildfire looked around taking in her surroundings before knowing what she needed to do when locking her eyes on the trainer and his big bird pokemon across from them.
"Alright girl, let's hit this feathery bird with a good Flame Wheel." Wildfire was more than happy to oblidge being out of her Pokeball finally. With a stamp of her front hoof she was off.

Pidgeotto paused and narrowed its eyes at Corla, she knew what was coming? But the battle had been fairly easy until now and it still had its roosting abilities so it had a hard time imagining they really should prove to be a real danger to it. "I hope your team mate hides less than you, or else this will be a long battle," it called after her as she returned to her trainers side. It might sound more mockingly than Pidgeotto intended but it felt sure in its own abilities and just thought that if that was their strategy the battle would just be drawn out before it won. Falkner tensed visibly when Megan spoke, this was it! Now he had to act and act right or else it would all be over. This was when he should prove his worth as Gym leader and not let Megan walk all over him, as she had managed to confused him until now. That she told him she was going to switch pokemon he was confirmed his suspicious had been right, question was if he could handle it. He licked his dry lips nervously. "This is now Pidgeotto, be on your toes!" He warned his pokemon and the bird frowned and glanced down at its feet dangling in the air below it. Wild fire. That sounded like a fire type. "Mud-slap!" barked Falkner and Pidgeotto dived as Megan call put her fiery horse, which just got to lock eyes with Falkner before it got a slap of mud straight in the face. She stomped and was off and Pidgeotto made a wild dodge as she came racing for it and she fly past singing its tailfeathers, but otherwise it was unharmed. Falkner put a hand to his chest to calm his racing hard and and took some deep breaths as he realized he had hold it. That had been a close call but he had handled it. "Pidgeotto, follow it up with a Roost," he adviced and his bird reluctantly did as wisehd, although it much rather wanted to pay back that close hit Wild Fire had almost dealt to it. Falkner thought it best to making sure they could last longer as he was aware that Megan had a plan behind this. Battle
