She had already been soaked to the bone by the time she reached the lab, so when she saw that the weather did nothing but get worse by the time she stepped out of it she couldn't do anything but heave a sigh. "..I love the rain but this is a bit much..." she mumbled, eyes trailing to her new pokeball and a small smile gracing her lips. She hadn't expected the swell of excitement she felt when meeting the Pokemon for the first time. She really had been missing out, and it made her wonder what her grandmother would have thought of them. The first to approach her was a rather excitable Squirtle, running around her and in an out of her legs. She laughed at first though her anxiety soon began to grow as it just wouldn't stop running. Eventually she was stumbling away from it to end up near a second pokemon, Bulbasaur. She exhaled a sigh of relief as it seemed much more calm, crouching to it as she mustered another smile. "Hello the-" she began only to have the creature turn away from her in a huff. Her smile disappeared, replaced with a small frown as she seemed almost disheartened.
A small pat on her back startled her, turning her gaze quickly to find a smiling face. A small Charmander placed it's hand upon her, giving a small nod as if trying to comfort her. Cerise couldn't help but smile, hand timidly reaching out towards the fire type with a bit of hesitance. She almost flinched as it moved to bump it's head gently at the hand in a welcoming manner. "...Do you want to go with me?" she asked softly, the Charmander tilting it's head as it thought for a moment. "Char," it replied, moving to give her a bit of a hug before scampering off. Cerise was confused only a moment before the little creature returned with it's own pokeball in hand. "...I'll call you Tanith, I think." "Char!"
"I guess I shouldn't be taking you out anywhere like this, way to much water for you, pretty girl," she cooed, fastening the ball onto her belt as she looked once more out at the flooded landscape. Stepping further her face turned disgruntled, the water already passed her ankles as she felt it flood into her shoes. "Ugh..." she groaned before slowly trudging through, hoping to find a bit of drier land.

As Carise left the safety of the lab for the drenched tall grass of New Bark Town the flood effected the area left the entire area unsuitable for most of its inhabitants and the few Pokemon who dared to stay in the area were mostly hunkered down in whatever cover they could find. It was a good thing no fire types natively called the area home as the floor would make it harder for them to even get a tiny ember to form yet alone any decent sized flame. The good news was that the tall grass offered some protection from the raging floods for trainers and Pokemon to move about whenever they could work up the nerve to do so and sure enough one such Pokemon was headed in the opposite direction of Carise as it nearly walked into her leg trying to shield it's eyes from the pellets of water flying off of the grass. The owl was a little surprised to see a human out in these conditions but as it was also hoping to become stronger this might be a good opportunity for it to grow a bit stronger by challenging her to a battle. The weather was far from ideal for such a request however it would really allow it to test its strength and given the small number of alternatives the owl had to train with for the time being it was not going to let her slip by. Hoothoot extended its wings and coo'ed as it continued to approach Carise as it tried to force her to select a Pokemon. Considering the condition of the landscape around her and the persistence of the owl she did not have much of a choice but to battle. As she had only a single Pokemon to her name at the moment there was no doubt as to which one she would use but the choice of what move her Pokemon would use would still be up to her as Hoothoot refused to even consider letter her run off without a battle. Upon closer inspection the Hoothoot seemed to have a rather weird coloration unlike most in the area. A wild Shiny Hoothoot(Level 5) appeared. Please select a Pokemon.

Cerise stepped back a bit in surprise as her gaze fell upon the Pokemon before her, eyes slightly wide from being startled. She hadn't expected to find anything out and about other than herself, especially in such weather conditions. "Ah.. h-hel-.." she began before the bird spread it's wings and cooed at her, beginning to approach her as she slowly stepped back in a matching pace. "H-hey, uh... It's... It's a bit rough for this sorta thing d-don't you thi-eek!" a squeal escaped her as she narrowly avoided falling back, her foot having caught a lifted root hidden amongst the tall grass. Luckily she was able to steady herself, taking only a second to catch her breath before her gaze fixed upon the encroaching bird. "F-fine! Just..." she almost whimpered, pulling Tanith's ball from her belt ,"...she's my only Pokemon and I don't want her seriously hurt..." With a swallow she sent her little Charmander fourth, making sure it was in as dry of an area she could manage. Tanith gave a look around as she formed into existence, flinching lightly as a raindrop hit her and her eyes looked to the sky. "Char?" she questioned, looking to Cerise before her eyes narrowed at the sight of the Hoothoot approaching her trainer. "Char!" she called out, rushing to stand protectively in front of Cerise as she was careful to guard her tail-flame from the water. Her gaze remained locked to the bird, waiting for it to step too close before she lashed out with her sharp little claws. ~* ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ *~ Tanith Used Scratch! |

The little Hoothoot hopped around on its feet, splashing around in the waterlogged mud in excitement. It was going to get its battle after all! Of course, it hadn't given Cerise much of a choice... but it was going to battle! This was good news for the golden, sparkly Hoothoot, whose feathers shone in the otherwise dim, flooded Route 29 landscape. It chirped happily, waiting for Cerise's Pokémon to appear. This happened quite soon™, with Tanith leaping out of her Pokéball and splashing down in the flooded ground below her. She glanced up at Cerise with a look of displeasure on her face. Charmander were understandably quite wary of water, and there was plenty of that here. Horrible, wet water. Yuck. With her tail held high to keep it safe, she started to navigate the marshy conditions that were currently plaguing the area. It was rather hard to move in the veritable bog beneath Cerise and Tanith, but the little one did its best. Hoothoot, meanwhile, seemed to be having a wonderful time splashing in the flood. Splish, splash, we're gonna have a fight today! Tanith slashed her kind-of-sharp claws across the face of the criminally happy Hoothoot, but this did little to cool its mood. If anything, the Flying type looked pleased that it was being taken seriously. But now it was time to get a little serious. Hoothoot's expression darkened as it began to counterattack, and it threw its entire weight straight into the young Fire type opposite. In the wet conditions, Tanith wobbled as she tried desperately to stay upright. She had to keep her tail dry at all costs, after all. As its attack completed, Hoothoot found itself facedown in the flood. The owl took a moment to right itself, but it looked unfazed as it stood back up. The battle was all that was on this little one's mind, and now it was focused and ready to win. *"Soon" is a registered trademark of Midnightive . Its use here is deemed "fair use" by the moderator. The Hoothoot was now ready for the battle ahead, its attention entirely devoted to Tanith and reading her moves as best as it could. Having said that, it couldn't help but hop around a little in sheer pleasure at the notion of becoming stronger here and now. The Charmander was a worthy opponent, for certain, but Hoothoot could definitely beat it. Besides, this little owl had one nasty trick up its sleeve. Perhaps it was about time for the Fire type to experience its specialty. While Hoothoot deliberated on the move it should use next, Tanith was already busy starting her own attack. She waded through the flooded landscape carefully, still making life preservation her top priority by keeping her tail up high, claws extended. Slowly but surely, she approached the bouncing, splashing Flying type opposite her. Once she reached her target, she did very much the same as before, scratching the Hoothoot across its face. Hoothoot flinched in discomfort but more or less kept its ground without any trouble. Realising just how strong this Charmander was looking, Hoothoot reasoned that now was a very good time to pull out its trump card. It was time for the Charmander to fall victim to a powerful Hypnosis. It stared unblinkingly at Tanith, trying to meet her gaze as quickly as possible. Tanith was entirely unsure what was going on, but the little Fire type never kept eye contact with her opponent for any length of time. Hoothoot kept this game up for a while, determined to make its opponent fall asleep, but it just wasn't having any luck with this opponent. Eventually, Hoothoot took a wild stab in the dark and hoped for the best, launching its Hypnosis... but to no avail. Tanith stood still and blinked, certain that she had seen a flash of red light but confused as to why nothing had happened. Strange. Hoothoot returned to its hopping, which it realistically was unable to stop due to being a Hoothoot. Battle! The Hoothoot was having fun! Being the most special one this side of the route, the bird had to get its fun somewhere right? By now, every last Pokemon this side of Route 29 was absolutely sick of hearing about how golden its feathers were, so not a lot of them took the time to come and spar with it. But here it was now, fighting against a girl and her Pokemon in a heated battle, it was so much fun!
Getting scratched in the face however as Tanith charged it, yeah that wasn't as much fun. The little lizard swiped her claws over the beautiful golden feathers, ripping one out with a claw on accident. Tanith looked down at it, and so did the Hoothoot. To anyone else, this would be a comical moment, but now Hoothoot, it was sort of angry. How DARE someone rip out one beautiful feather on its body! The Pokemon was quick to strike back, its skull bashing into Tanith's chest and knocking the young Pokemon to the ground.
Well, this just got personal.---

Battle! It seemed like this battle was getting somewhere and the Hoothoot was now hellbent on turning up the victorious one. It was going to do this, no matter how fancy this lizard was, no matter what reason its butt was on fire, it would win. At least that was until the human behind her threw something its way.
It hardly saw the thing coming before it was knocked on the head, getting sucked inside by some strange force as it cooed in protest. Noo, nooooo! but it was too late as the ball snapped shut and fell to the ground, it wiggled once, twice, three times before finally settling with a click of the middle button that incdicated a successful capture!---

Cerise had held her breath as she watched the ball shake. One.. Two... click! Her eyes widened before all the air she had been holding back was let off with a squeal. Rushing forward she snapped up the ball before scooping up Tanith into a hug. "We did it Tanith! We actually did it! You did so amazing!" she bounces, Tanith nuzzling her before pointing up to the cloudy sky. "Oh! Yeah, I'll get you back safe and sound," she smiled, recalling the little Charmander and tucking her ball safely away. Sending out her new friend once more it whipped around, obviously confused. "Hey there..." she cooed softly, the Hoothoot turning quickly to look at her with a bit of confusion. What happened to their battle? Did she win? Did this human win? She didn't have time to think long before a hand placed atop her head. She stiffened, her beautiful golden feathers puffing out to stand on end before they relax into the touch. "Hoot...?" she cooed, peering up at the human's face once more. "I think I'll call you Butterscotch... You're going to travel with me now." "Hoot!" she puffed up again, turning and starting to bob away. As if she would travel with a hu- "You'll have lots of battles!" Cerise smiled, the bird halting in her step to peek back at the woman. "...Hoo?" "I'm going to be challenging the gyms! We're going to travel all over the region to battle!" The bird hopped to face her, hopping back. She could prove herself! "Hoo-hoo!" Cerise laughed a bit, recalling the Hoothoot before standing up. Filled with a new confidence as she continued her walk. Shiny Hoothoot

Now with a Shiny Hoothoot added to the team it was time to continue on the journey towards Cherrygrove City. A place where one would be able to heal Pokemon as well as buy Items at the Poke mart. But before Cerise could even start to think of what she would do at Cherrygrove, there was a rustle in the trees above. It then went silent before there was another rustle and something zoomed onto another tree branch a bit closer to Cerise. The thing was unknown and unable to be seen, until it flew down onto the ground infront of Cerise. Chirping as it spread it's wings. "Spearow!!" It seemingly wanted to fight, believing it could take on Cerise's pokemon and take them done. From it's stance and glare as it looked at Cerise seemed like it wasn't going to take no for an answer. It wanted a challenge, and Cerise's pokemon were going to be that challenge. A wild Pokemon (Level 05) has appeared! Please select a Pokemon to use in battle or Flee! Water Sport Weather will be in effect.

The fearsome bird fanned its wings, each feather angling into a sharp edge just like the pokey arrangement making up its head feathers. It's beak clicked as it cawed its name once again, hoping to inspire some fear in the brightly colored hoothoot. The golden owl only diverted her eyes for a second before taking a deep breath and focusing in. Before Butterscotch could taken in too much though Spearow began moving. Hopping into the air the aggressive avian glided toward the opposing bird. A rush of feather swept up around Butterscotch as Spearow stopped abruptly in an ever so slight hover above. Dark eyes peering down at the rounded owl were soon replaced with the sharp beak that came pecking down multiple times. Butterscotch hooed in pain as the assault began, tiny little wings shooting upward to swat her opponent away. Once Spearow backed off Butterscotch took a moment to rub her new wound, but, it was just what she needed to get right to business. Slight tears welling in her eyes from the peck, Butterscotch turned her blood red orbs onto Spearow and stared unrelentingly. It was somewhat unnerving; even for such a bird as Spearow. The shiny hoothoot took in all of her surroundings, analyzing every detail. Spearow wasn't going to get away from her! Not... that it had tried yet.
