As Kevin, Oracle, and Samantha reached the outskirts of New Bark Town Kevin had quite a bit planned for the young fox. He was going to put her through some serious paces so she could become stronger as soon as possible and catch up to the others on his team. If luck shined on him Habakkuk might get a chance to train as well but Samantha was the priority at the moment now that Oracle had evolved. " A bit of a shame your magic is not strong enough for even a basic attack yet and Ember might as well be a spitball even here but fret not, once your training is complete you will be just as mighty as Oracle." The young fox was still a bit dazed from being in Marchbaby's pc for so long that she was not 100% sure what was going on.
Even so she was excited to stretch her legs after all this time and to become partners with a Lucario given the rarity of both of their species in the region and similar nature of their attacks both being of a supernatural basis. Oracle hoped she would not take too long to catch up so she could get back to training herself, however they were only as strong as the weakest link and Samantha currently fit that bill. " I will make sure she does not get herself into too much trouble, I have no doubts she will need some help until she grows a bit stronger. It would be nice if we could get our hands on a few TMs to help her out."
Kevin nodded in agreement as it would be some time before Samantha would gain a useful attack and taking a shortcut to a good move was always an option to help speed things up a bit. Until they could find a good TM however they were left with the good old fashioned method of having her battle foes until she could grow powerful enough to hold her own in the later towns. " You might still be young but that does not mean I am going to let you off easy. I will be pushing you to your limits so you can reach your potential." Taking a short moment to assess his surroundings Kevin then gave Samantha her orders.
" Samantha you sly fox, try a Ember attack on whatever shows up. Ambush tactics work well with Oracle lets see how well they work for you."

While the heavy rain had stopped in New Bark Town, the effects of it however had not. Every step Kevin made a very satisfying yet nasty feeling squelch can be heard. As he got further down the Route, as the Pokemon center faded behind them.
A terrified Sentret was seen running from the river, it's burrow had been over run by water.
Though scared of the ever changing weather, it was still scared of humans and on seeing Kevin was ready to fight. Getting up from it for paws it was using to run. It flexed and bared it's teeth to show it meant business. Samantha was thrown into the battle and it was happy to be out of it's ball before focusing on the Sentret. Samantha built a powerful flame into's mouth before firing at the Seentret.
The damn conditions really had effected the power-fullness of the attack somewhat. But it still took a chunk of damage before Sentret ran up and scratched the fire type. It didn't do a lot but it was enough to make Samantha flinch in pain. Battle

The drenched conditions New Bark Town was currently facing were far from ideal for poor Samantha, she was a determined little fox even with the weather weakening her attacks. To be fair her opponent was far from a major threat but to her it did not matter what she was facing so long as it made her stronger. Oracle could not hold back the urge to read the young foxes aura and was intrigued by what she saw. " This little ball of fluff sure does have some spunk, though I wonder how she will fair against a Pokemon with more muscle." She said as she turned her attention to Sentret. The normal type was pretty brave for refusing to back dow.
" I give credit to the poor dear she is facing, it is practically a baby and it still has the courage to fight back. I cannot help but feel pity for it." Kevin was less sympathetic as he knew showing sympathy in combat could get yourself killed, at the same time Oracle did have a point in this case. " Under most circumstances I would never agree with showing mercy but in this case I might just let the little critter tag along after Samantha has her fun." The young fire type was so focused on the battle that she was not even aware that Kevin and Oracle had been discussing the battle, all she cared about right now was winning.
Kevin had not planned on switching her out nor was he about to given how determined she still was but he still wished the condition of the battlefield was not such a hinderence. " So long as the conditions are like this I do not think we will get to see a full power strike from Samantha anytime soon so we might as well get comfortable." He then walked over to a nearby tree and leaned against it waiting for the right moment, to give Samantha the order to attack again. Oracle then followed him and leaned on the other side, Samantha finally looked away from the battle long enough to see them standing there. The young fox barked at them wanting new orders.
Kevin calmly spoke his orders so that she would know exactly what he wanted her to do. " Samantha use Ember again." Upon receiving her orders Samantha went on the move again ready to deliver another strike at Sentret.

The sloppy mud dominating the field didn't make shuffling about on all fours particularly comfortable. At least Samantha didn't have to move around too much when she was throwing fire around, not to mention didn't have much of a chance of spreading a wild fire. But poor little Sentret was having to trudge around in the wet world, face getting slapped by the soaked blades of grass with every bound. Still, though, the scout pokémon propped itself right back up on its strong tail like a trooper. Sadly, the decision to make itself taller only made it an easier target for the fox. Now with head poking out of the grass, the Sentret was a flag marker for Samantha's ember, of which she promptly sent flying into the furry pokémon's face. Sentret squealed in annoyance, the licking heat searing some of its already darkened fur. At least there was one nice thing about being drenched by the environmental conditions: the fire continued to be less effective than one would expect otherwise. Puffing its cheeks up the determined Sentret rustled back through the thick grass toward Samantha. Once in melee range it cried its name and scratched the fennekin across a shoulder before retreating back away again. Wild Battle

Samantha was growing a bit annoyed that she could not score a major hit on Sentret but it gave Kevin quite a bit of entertainment. " So another round is finished and Samantha still has no luck. We really need to teach you a stronger move but I will say you have good aim." As he watched the young fox Oracle just hoped the weather would not get any worse. " If this weather gets worse than it is I doubt Samantha will even be able to use her Ember, she really is trying though I give her that." Just as she finished speaking Samantha looked back at her. The fox had rather good hearing and could use any encouragement she could get.
It took a lot out of her with every attack, she was still so young that she could hardly handle this Sentret in bad weather and she was not proud of that at all and by the looks of things it would still take a few more hits to win. Her determination was unquestionable and Kevin admired her efforts to try and overcome the situation. " Samantha if spunk like yours was more common this world would be a much better place, if only you had more experience." Even with his praise it would not speed up the battle at all. Oracle wanted to just jump in and end it but Samantha had to learn to win her own battles as quickly as she could.
" If it was not so vital for Samantha to fight her own battles I would jump in and end this out of pity. It would mean that she would miss out on a more rewarding victory however. With that being said I hope she finds a more effective way to fight back soon." The next round was about to begin and poor Samantha still only really had ember as an option. Kevin was not really optimistic about using it in desperation like this but there was really no choice. After a quick sigh he began to speak to Samantha. " Time for another round my dear, this battle has been long and hard on you but greatness is not easily achieved. I want you to try ember again. It is far from effective but it will do for now."
As she received her orders Samantha started to build up another ember slowly working towards bringing the battle to an end.

Pacing back through the puddles of water was, for the first time today, nice. All those embers were starting to build up and the lingering burning sensation in various parts of its body hit the cool pools like an itch being scratched. If it wasn't for the icky mud sticking to its fur it may have just sat in one of the larger ones it'd passed by whilst retreating a distance from the fiery fox. Alas, though, the mud was still enough of a deterrent; plus there was still a battle to finish and despite the fennkin seeming a bit bigger and stronger Sentret had a good feeling it had a chance. There was just something missing... As it focused inward, mulling over strategies in its head, it was prime timing for Samantha to get off another ember. She moved a bit to the side in hopes of better positioning, carefully avoiding the dips of water sitting around. Her own claws dug into the soft ground, aching a bit to get some use and show the wild pokémon how a real scratch was done, but her trainer wanted more fire; so she would make fire. Opening her mouth once again the fire pokémon sent forth another spray of embers that danced around the seated sentret. It squealed again, swiftly bounding out of the attack's area and brushing some sparks that had stuck to its body. Scrunching up its mouth and narrowing its eyes Sentret stared intensely at its opponent. A sense of utter clarity encompassed the field as the scout pokémon continued its gaze, a twinkle in its eyes. It seemed it wasn't going to come up and scratch this round. Wild Battle

Samantha was pleased that she did not get scratched this time as she was expending enough energy just trying to launch her attacks. Even with the break however the last attack made it abundantly clear that the battle was nearly over as Sentret could hardly stand. Samantha was not at all pleased with her performance as she was physically exhausted from all of her efforts but she still had to work up enough strength one final time to end this battle and hopefully move to an area with weather that would not hold her back so much. She had still learned that she was pretty good at hitting her target and that she was also a pretty determined individual as the weather had still not stopped her from winning this battle.
Kevin saw her potential though as he took notes from the battle it was clear just how badly she needed to work on her endurance and her moveset as well. " She sure has the determination of a warrior that is certainly clear, she is very young so that helps explain part of her endurance not being great but she still has a lot of work to do there. The biggest problem though is still the moves she knows, I thought your moveset as a Riolu was bad Oracle but Ember is nearly worthless with her. That will be a big problem." Oracle could not agree more as the poor fox was having a very hard time and with her current moveset she would be a huge hindrance to the team.
" Her moves will indeed need to get better if she is going to be of any use but I can help train her endurance wise. I have no doubts that as she evolves and undergoes training with me that she can really shine. We really should have some of our newer recruits train with me, it might do them some good to learn from a Pokemon whose bloodline is filled with soldiers. Some of it might rub off on them." Kevin loved the idea but still wanted to train Samantha a bit more before trying something else. " I will give Samantha 1 more chance through the more traditional means before I let her try and train under you but I do love the idea."
As he looked at Samantha he pushed her to end the battle this round so they could find 1 more foe for her to fight before having her do some training with Oracle. " Samantha time to end this right here and right now, use Ember on that Sentret."

Sentret was struggling and really quite weakened from the battle that had taken place, but it was still incredibly optimistic for absolutely no good reason. It thought it could win this match, and its newfound wisdom was just the ticket to end this match in its favour. All it had to do was, well, not get burned. That was its latest genius thought. It rolled around in the puddles as it considered its options. It knew what it had to do now, and the best way to do that was to roll around and wait. Probably. It just needed a chance to strike, and it would get it. Probably. It could win. Probably. Meanwhile, in the real world, Samantha stared at her opponent rolling around in the filth below and focused all of her energy on one last Ember attack. The Sentret looked all but beat by this point, and one more hit would probably seal the deal. She opened her mouth and roared loudly, producing yet more flames. The shards of fire buffeted Sentret, who was still trying to cover itself in dirt and water as a repellant. Unfortunately, Sentret and its genius thoughts were mistaken; this was not going to do the trick this time. Sentret was quickly silenced, finding itself unconscious on the floor. Wild Battle

With another blow Samantha finally defeated her foe as she stretched out, pointed her nose straight up, and howled in pure joy. She had worked hard to claim this victory and would not let the weather get the best of her. As proud as she was her current moves were not very useful at all and for now Kevin decided to hold off on more training until he could get her a more useful move. Her could still do more training in the area with his other Pokemon but he felt rather confident in Oracle. He had not managed to challenge a gym leader in Johto yet but there was a few stops he had to make before he could do so. " Samantha you have earned a rest for now but your training is far from complete. We will have to ask David next time we meet if he has any good TM's he can loan us so you will have more firepower. Until then there are two places we must go. First off we need to get a Pokedex so I can try and locate strong Pokemon to use until I gain full access to my Task Forces. We also need to get a pair of running shoes as they might make things a tiny bit quicker." As he finished laying out the battle plan Oracle could feel Kevin's aura spike as he wanted so desperately to undergo his first Johto gym battle as quickly as possible. " Let's not waste any time then, the professor should be in the lab here and I am sure they will know where we can get some running shoes. The sooner I am able to test myself against a gym leader the more pleased the noth of us shall be." With Oracle in agreement Kevin threw a Pokeball at the defeated Sentret and captured it before he picked up Samantha and let her ride on his shoulder as they made their way towards the lab. As the poor terrain conditions improved the closer they got to the lab they grew more eager to get things underway. Not too much time passed before they came across a large building near a few houses that looked like the place. Just as they reached the front a man in a lab coat carrying a bunch of papers ran inside and closed the door not noticing them in the process as he looked to be in quite a hurry. Kevin waited a moment before he knocked on the door. OOC: Leaving Sentret blank for now outside of the ability.
