As Ray approached the entrance to the Violet City Gym, he let out all of his Pokemon to give them a good old pep talk.
"Alright guys," he said, "I've only known some of you for a few days and one of you hasn't even hatched yet, but I know one thing about each and very one of you. You're all my friends and my partners. Together, our determination can take us anywhere. Therefore, here's what's gonna happen. We're gonna bust into that Gym, look the leader straight in the eye, and I'm gonna say 'Hello. My name is Ray Jafari. These are my Pokemon. Do you wanna have a bad time?'. So, what are we waiting for? Let's get in there and fight like Abyss!!!!"
All the Pokemon cheered as they returned to their Pokeballs, even the "too intelligent to be pep talked" Tails.EXE felt a tear of pride fall his cheek. Ray opened the doors to the gym with both hands and began to walk up to the Gym Leader, cracking his knuckles.
"Hello," he said, walking up to the designated corner across from his opponent, "My name is Ray Jafari. These are my Pokemon. Do you wanna have a bad time?"

Falkner had just finished feeding his Pokemon when Ray entered his gym. Falkner had no doubts in his mind that Ray was looking for a battle when he brought up a bad time. " Hello, and welcome to my gym. My name is Falkner and I am the gym leader. I would not personally call a battle a bad time but as a gym leader I am always ready for a challenge." Falkner may not have been a gym leader for long but that did not mean he would shy away from a battle. Before he even said a word the Pidgey he had been feeding swooped down and landed at his feet. Falkner then proceded to introduce his Pokemon to Ray. " This here is my trusty partner Pidgey, he might be young but he is very brave for his age."He paused for a moment as Pidgey hopped a little bit towards Ray, he wanted to try and show his bravery in any way possible. Falkner then continued his speech eager to begin the battle. " In case it was not obvious yet, Pidgey will be my first choice. I am very interested to see which Pokemon you will select first." He then focused all of his attention on Ray, being so curious as to which Pokemon he would use that anything else did not matter. He jusr secretly hoped he would not have to deal with an electric type. Falkner accepts your challenge. He sends out his Pidgey(Level 10) Please select a Pokemon.

"Nice to meet both of you," Ray said, grinning in a cocky manner, "With introductions out of the way, what say we get to the point."
Ray popped his collar to increase his cool factor and called Xion to the field. Sure, it made him look a little goofy, but this was his first true test to his determination and he wasn't going to lose. When Xion first entered the field, she was surprisingly intimidated by the Pidgey.
"Alright, Xion," he said, "Use Confuse Ray and show Pesto here what you got. This is our moment, Xion. Don't let our dreams be dreams. WE CAN JUST DO IT!!!"
Ray's words of encouragement filled the little Phantump with determination, allowing her to no longer fear the battle ahead. This was her moment. AT last, she was a Mon.

Vs. Gym Leader Falkner "It's great to see someone with such confidence coming into my gym. Usually means they'll give me and my birds a great workout," Falkner said with a grin, nodding at his Pidgey. The plucky young avian fluffed himself up in reply, chest thrown up and everything possible done to make himself appear completely battle-ready. Even the appearance of a strange Pokemon neither Falkner nor Pidgey recognized threw them - well, perhaps a little, but they recovered quickly enough. "Interesting. I've not seen any Pokemon like that before... but no worries Pidgey, we've got this!" the teal-haired man declared. Pidgey looked curiously at Xion as the Phantump seemed to recoil slightly, as if frightened for an instant. Not enough to clue the bird in to Xion's typing, but enough to give him a small boost of ego.
A boost that was short-lived, as Falkner decided to start the battle off proper. Ray's encouraging words to his partner earned him an approving nod from the leader, happy to see a trainer striving to care for his Pokemon during an important, and somewhat stressful, moment. "Alright Pidgey, let's start with Sand-Attack!" Falkner ordered. Many trainers, even those with Pokemon who had the type-advantage, had been thwarted by such a simple move. But he doubted Ray would be hampered too much by it, if Falkner's intuition was correct. Any further contemplation would have to wait as Pidgey flared his short wings and hovered a few inches off the floor. Flapping those wings as fast as he could, Pidgey's efforts stirred up a sizeable cloud of dust and grit that was strewn about, and angled himself to blow this in Xion's direction.
The Phantump tried to shield herself from the worst of it, but the stinging sensation from her eyes said otherwise. Xion didn't need to see fully to direct her next move, focusing on the vaguely tan and brown coloured blob that resembled Pidgey as best as her altered vision allowed her. Concentrating hard, the Phantump conjured up a bright orb that sped towards her foe with just a little ghostly nudge, thankfully scoring a direct hit. The orb split into several smaller ones that whirled about Pidgey's head fast enough to make it dizzy, causing him to stagger with a confused chirp. "Pidgey! You okay?" Falkner called out, concern clear on his face. This wasn't the best start, but he wasn't going to let this minor setback deter him.

Ray casually scratched the back of his head when Falkner brought up Xion's species.
"I hadn't really either until Xion here," he said, "the cute little gal just showed up one day after smelling some cookie I was eating. She even let me catch her after one turn with one of my other Pokémon."
Ray remembered that day with a strange fondness and Xion could not help but blush when Ray brought up her cute factor. However, both the trainer and Phantump soon got back into the battle.
"But no matter," he said in a voice reminiscent of Kevin Conroy's Batman, "Time to tip the scales, Xion. Use Trick Room."

Vs. Gym Leader Falkner
Having never the Pokemon or not really knowing it's type. He stood there for a hot minute before slowly raising his hand to his chin deep in thought. This is all very interesting, I have no idea of its typing so this is all guess work." He admitted. He looked over the Pokemon a lot, noticing the way it hoovered suggested either flying or ghost and he was going to bet on the latter. Did it have a second typing? He wasn't sure.
His Pidgy and Ray waited in silence as he thought about his next move. Confusion made this worse but it was ok, he hoped. "Pidgey use Guest!" he said. Pidgey launched up and started to do a powerful guest but in confusion he miss timed his wing beats and fell to the floor doing some damage. Pidgey quickly got to his feet and shook it off. Not before a chill ran through the room something had changed but what? It was Xion's trick room. Battle

"Excellent work, Xion," Ray said, giving his ghostly ally two thumbs up, "Time to switch things up. Come on back."
Xion returned to her Pokeball, kind of annoyed she didn't actually get to attack her opponent. Ray noticed this and made sure to assure the little ghost stump of her role in this fight from within her home.
"Don't worry, little buddy," he said before storing away the Pokeball, "Your role in this battle will come in handy for then ext five rounds."
Ray pulled out the next ball and threw it straight down on the ground to let out a cute little Chingling named after the hero of Ray's childhood bedtimes. The little guy leaped out of the capsule, spinning through the air with the grace of a bat on the wind before landing in the thin layer of air 3 centimeters above the battle field. Clearly, Sora Hood was still pumped from Ray's rallying speech from earlier.
"Sora Hood," Ray said with a determined grin, "Make your entrance with Wrap."

Vs. Gym Leader Falkner Wary of whatever tactics Ray had up his sleeve, Falkner remained alert, refusing to give in to the sinking feeling in his gut. His father would be disappointed if he, faced with an unusual situation, gave in instead of doing his best to give his challenger a good battle. The relief on his face when Xion was recalled was obvious, wondering if this meant he was getting a reprieve, or if Ray was bringing in something that would take advantage of the subtle warping in the room that had been unleashed the turn prior. Pidgey was too confused to take much notice of the change, other than the chill that he'd felt, and only saw the brief flash that heralded Sora Hood's entrance into the battle. "You've certainly got some unusual Pokemon with you," Falkner remarked, eyes keen as they studied the Chingling.
The colour seemed apt for a possible Electric type, but he wasn't going to waste much time guessing - not fair to his challenger to just muse to himself instead of battle. "Pidgey, try a Tackle if you can manage it!" the leader called out, praying his partner would pull through. Unfortunately for him luck was yet to grace him as Pidgey tripped over his own feet and crashed awkwardly to the ground, groaning. Nope, this battle was going very much awry already, and Falkner looked visibly worried by this point. Sora Hood took his chance and bounced over to where Pidgey struggled to rise, raring to please his trainer.
Ribbons on his backside unfurling, the Chingling used his psychic power to wrap them around the bird's body and squeezed hard. Pidgey opened his eyes, still very much dizzy, and squawked feebly in response, wings trying to unfurl. Sora Hood had wrapped one tightly to his body, however, and Pidgey tilted precariously to one side before he snapped his wing back to right himself. The ribbons seemed to dig in a little deeper from his moving about, drawing out another tired cry much to Falkner's chagrin. An unusual battle indeed, but it was very much in favour of Ray for the time being, Sora Hood ensuring there'd be no recalling Pidgey back to spare him.

Ray was certainly getting things his way in this fight. However, to show good form, he made sure to let Falkner know that they both deserve to be respected.
"Just so you know," Ray said, "even if I am totally whooping your butt, it's still an honor to show a gym leader my moves."
Ray then turned to Sora Hood.
"Alright little buddy," he said, pointing at the soon-to-be-knocked-out Pidgey, "use Astonish and get this leader to show us what he's really got."

Vs. Gym Leader Falkner
Confidence appeared to be something that Ray had in spades, it was always a good sight to see young up and coming trainers with so much determination. Much to Falkner's delight his avian partner was able withstand the onslaught of damage that it was taking, it had exhibited a warriors spirit despite the circumstances it had been dealt with.
Although the early stages of the battle had not gone in his favour, primarily a result of fine execution of strategy by Ray and his team, it seemed lady luck had graced him, at least for the moment that was. Ray had ordered his psychic type partner to use a move known as Astonish, this had been the saving grace for Falkner's Pidgey as the flying type pokemon was immune to ghost type attacks.
"Hang in there little buddy, we can get through this! Try and whip up a Gust for me!"
Pidgey was still in a confused state as he tried his absolute best to focus his blurry vision upon the challengers pokemon. The flying type pokemon begun preparing his gust attack however suddenly felt the constriction of the ribbon that Sora Hood's Wrap had inflicted upon him. Falkner's Pidgey cried out in pain as he seemingly could not control the rhythm of his own wings to unleash his gust attack, instead the avian fell to the floor and hurt itself in its own confusion. Falkner was in quite the predicament, his Pidgey was badly hurt and the effects of trick room were still active meaning he could not switch out his poor little Pidgey. Falkner appeared a tad confused as to how to deal with the situation as gazed over to Ray,
"You've certainly left me in quite the pickle young Ray, this is quite the workout to remember!"

As Ray saw Sora Hood's Astonish do nothing, he looked over the Chingling's moveset and realizes he had no attacks left that could damage the enemy. Plus, the Trick Room wouldn't allow him to switch out.
"This is awkward," Ray said bluntly, "But probably fixable. Sora Hood, use Growl and see if this Pidgey has any fight left in him."
Sora Hood wasn't entirely sure why Ray bothered with another move if the Pidgey was probably gonna die from the Ribbons of Chaos, but did what he was told anyway.

Vs. Gym Leader Falkner
Falkner observed his challenger's facial expression, it was one of embarrassment as he seemingly hadn't accounted for a flying type pokemon such as Pidgey to be invulnerable to ghost type moves. Young Ray was humble in his admittance of his blunder, this notion did not go unnoticed by Falkner as he smiled, he respected others who could admit their own mistakes.
"Don't worry about it Ray, it happens to the best of us"
Glancing down at his battle-worn Pidgey, Falkner felt rather guilty for not being able to help it through the predicament it was in. Despite how damaged Falkner's Pidgey was, the small bird pokemon was not willing to give up without a fight as it motioned for its trainer to usher his command.
"That's it Pidgey, keep fighting my friend! Let's try and get off a Tackle attack!"
Pidgey's movements were slow, the effects of battle were clearly on display, the flying type though was able to muster the courage to attempt an attack. Sadly for the small avian it's confused state was still lingering and instead of charging towards Ray's Chingling the bird crashed into the floor and into an unconscious state. Falkner's facial expression had not changed, despite the circumstances the young teal haired male was confident of his chances in this battle as he returned his Pidgey into its pokeball. In the blink of an eye Falkner released his next pokemon out onto the battlefield, it was his beloved Pidgeotto. Falkner smiled and appeared to be beaming confidence,
"Time for the real fun to start, no more messing around!"

While still confident that he had this battle down, Ray was very impressed b y the swiftness in which Falkner switched out his Pokemon. Nonetheless, he would not be outdone by a ponytailed and overgrown Tweety Bird. The time had come to break out the grand finale.
"Skull Kid," he said, summoning the Wartortle to the ring, "Time to drag Birdman here through the pits of Abyss."
Skull Kid leaped out of his Pokeball and got into a battle stance reminiscent of a boxer, growling like a dog to add to his viciousness. Ray simply pulled a face palm and shook his head at the silly combination of complete non-threatening display.
"Just use Water Gun," Ray said, "An overgrown Tweety Bird can only be intimidated if you hit him with something."

Falkner was not a huge fan of being called bird man but Ray might just make a mistake by being overly confident so he let it slide. His Pidgey may have been defeated but thanks to Ray's Trick Room the slower Pokemon would still go first and though in most cases that would be bad news in this case it was fantastic as Skull Kid was normally a bit faster than Pidgeotto. With this knowledge at his disposal Falkner was going to uses Ray's own move against him. Falkner looked at Pidgeotto and smiled before giving his Pokemon an order. " Pidgeotto it would be rude not to accept the gift our friend has given us, don't you agree? Let's give a gift of our own with Mud Slap."Though the mysterious powers of Trick Room were fading fast there was enough left to get the jump on Skull Kid. Pidgeotto filled it's claws with mud from the ground and flew towards the Wartortle. Pidgeotto stopped right in front of him slinging mud right into his eyes. He had a hard time seeing even if the attack did little actual damage. Skull Kid was able to wipe just enough out of his eyes to see a blurry outline of his target as he fired a Water Gun attack at Pidgeotto. The bird screeched as the water hit it right in the face causing Pidgeotto to lose altitude. Pidgeotto regained control right before it hit the ground but Falkner had a lot of catching up to do. " Pidgeotto you took a lot of damage there. We might need to unleash our special attack if you take another hit like that. We are down but not out yet."Gym Battle

With the Trick Room fading away and Skull Kid semi-blinded with mud, Ray knew he had to act smart. However, even in these trying times, his witty tongue had not left him.
"Impressive," he said, maintaining his cocky composure, "Never thought you could put someone at a disadvantage with wet dirt. Nonetheless, Skull Kid's vengeance will be endless."
As Ray said this, Skull Kid was already attempting one of his classic tricks. The Wartortle had created a small puddle of water under Flakner's feet, hoping to trip him and catch off guard just enough to pull a double variation of whatever move Ray gave him before the gym leader could give Pidgeotto an order.
"Skull Kid," Ray said, unaware of the dirty trick about to unfold, "give this pint sized eagle a taste of Bubble."
