Operation: Brute Force[F]

Samantha was nearly asleep as they reached the front doors of the Violet City gym. Now that they had both the running shoes and the Pokedex they had been after taking on the gym leader was the next thing on the agenda. Kevin had planned to train his Pokemon more but Oracle had already hit the gyms level cap and he wanted to see if she had the power to handle a gym by herself. Before they could enter however a baby Eevee ran towards Oracle and jumped into her arms shocking both Kevin and Oracle as Eevee were not a common sight at all in these parts. Eevee did not seem to have an owner but she did take quite a liking to Oracle almost immediately. 

Samantha even jumped off of Kevin's shoulder to greet the young Pokemon and as she did Kevin began speaking to their newly found friend. " It does not appear that you are too afraid of people. Running up to a Lucario like that is either really stupid or really brave but for your sake I am hoping you are just really brave." Oracle could not put the little ball of fur down as the Eevee extended her claws to stay attached. Without a safe way to remove her by force convincing her to retract her claws was the only option. " Sweetheart could you please put those claws away? I promise I will not put you down if you do." Even with Oracle pleading with the young normal type she clung to her like a newborn baby.

Kevin then decided on a different tactic, he began rubbing the back of her ears until she grew so relaxed that her grip gave out allowing him to grab her and hold her himself. The Eevee nearly cried her eyes out realizing what had happened until Kevin spoke to her. " I promise you can go back to Oracle as soon as we get done battling the gym leader, in the mean time I think you and Samantha will make good shoulder buddies." He then picked Samantha up and put the two Pokemon on opposite shoulders before entering the gym. A gust of cool air rushed towards them as the battlefield came into view.

" Hello is anyone here? I would like to challenge the gym leader to a battle." Out of the corner of his eye he saw a blue haired man taking care of some bird Pokemon and he figured that he must be the gym leader. " My name is Kevin Baker and I am the commander of the Pokemon Global Defense Army. I am here to see how well my newest recruit Oracle fares against a gym leader. Though I have a full team I shall only use her in this battle." Oracle stepped forward as the Aura inside her began building up. She would need all her strength as Kevin had set quite a handicap on himself this match. As they got set up Kevin told Oracle the battle plan.

" Oracle use Aura Sphere on whatever he sends out. Then follow up with another Aura Sphere. Let's see if these running shoes were worth the effort."

Vs. Gym Leader Falkner

Hearing the gym doors open, Falkner spared a quick glance towards them with a small sigh. This was one of the best times to spend time with his beloved birds, whether it was grooming, feeding them, or simply practicing their moves for challengers. He set the brush down that he'd been using to make his Pidgey's feathers shine with an attractive luster, motioning for the young bird to fly up to its favourite perch on his shoulder. Seeing the person approaching also had Pokemon perched on his own, Falkner couldn't help but chuckle. "Looking for the leader? You got him. I'm Falkner, Violet City's gym leader and Flying-type specialist," he replied, pausing to let the other man continue his introductions. As Kevin spoke, Falkner glanced over the Pokemon with him and was rather awed by Oracle in particular, sensing this wasn't going to be one ordinary fight.

"Nice to meet you, Kevin. I can't say I've heard about this Global Defense Army, but if you're a commander, I suspect you'll give me quite the battle," Falkner said. Upon hearing Kevin's plan of only using his Lucario, the leader raised a slender brow in response, but said nothing other than murmuring comfortingly to his Pidgey. The avian was trembling slightly, picking up on what Falkner couldn't seem to sense in how dangerous Oracle was. It was an unusual reaction for his Pidgey outside of facing Electric-types, but he wasn't a gym leader for nothing - he had to battle all comers no matter what. "Stay strong Pidgey, and we'll be fine. Get ready!" Falkner called as he walked back to give the two Pokemon some room, watching his partner fly out nervously to meet Oracle.

Eyeing her new opponent with keen eyes, Oracle wasted little time in making use of the buildup of aura within her and lifted both arms in preparation. The swirling ball that formed between her paws grew quickly, and she hurled it swiftly in Pidgey's direction, catching the hovering bird directly in the chest. Thrown a fair distance by the powerful sphere, Pidgey didn't even manage to make a sound as it crashed down just behind Falkner, whose face was slack with utter shock. To have knocked out Pidgey in one blow... incredible. And also maybe a wee bit scary. Recalling the poor bird to its ball, Falkner threw out his Pidgeotto with gusto, hoping the stronger bird would endure what its predecessor could not. "Pidgey may have gone down fast, but my Pidgeotto is no slouch!" he declared.

Flaring its wide wings, Pidgeotto shrieked as it stared down at Oracle, whose returning gaze was no less fierce. Her paws, still shrouded in leftover aura, grew intense once more as she pointed them in the Pidgeotto's direction. It reared back, but there was no escaping the Aura Sphere that Oracle blasted it with, sending it hurtling up to the rafters where it collided with a dull thunk. KOed on the spot, Pidgeotto tumbled back to the ground, Falkner racing to catch his partner before it could be further injured. He recalled the unconscious bird to its ball, turning to look over Kevin and Oracle in wordless shock. "I... uh. Wow. You've got one strong partner there..." Falkner trailed off, respect and terror mingling together as he approached Kevin.

He took a few things out of his clothing, almost hastily pushing them upon his recent challenger. "The Zephyr Badge, rightfully yours for the victory. Plus a TM for Roost, and your winnings. If you'll excuse me," Falkner said, running a hand through his teal hair before retreating out of sight, still looking quite dazed over one of the quickest battles he'd ever been a part of. Couldn't blame the guy for wanting to go ponder life for a while.

Oracle could sense the fear in her opponent right before she blasted the poor Pidgey to kingdom come without hesitation. Her absolute show of force was a thing of beauty and brutality all the while the young Eevee, Samantha, and Kevin looked on. The two foxes had not seen many battles before and though Kevin had seen plenty before Oracle displayed the same fighting spirit as her parents. " Either I am really good or gyms are easier than you make them sound. I could feel the fear that Pidgey had of me the whole time. I pity it for having to fight such a lopsided battle." 

Even as Falkner sent out his Pidgeotto Oracle wanted to fight even harder. The bird tried its best but her powers were much too great. Kevin recognized the look on Falkner's face as he spoke knowing exactly what was going through his mind. " I can see the shellshock in your eyes, you are in utter disbelief as your mind tries to make sense of the hellfire of a battle you just endured." As he looked over at Oracle, the baby Eevee jumped off his shoulder and ran to the Lucario. Eevee knew tge battle was over and she was claiming her spot in Oracle's arms before Kevin came up with an excuse to separate them again.

" I guess a deal is a deal, but whenever I need Oracle's help you will have to ride on my shoulder again or walk, now where was I? Oh yes, Oracle you did a marvelous job today. I really do think your parents skill is rubbing off on you but you still need more training to equal them someday but I am proud of you. Falkner it has been an honor. Your Pokemon were brave to face Oracle as hopeless as their situation was. They deserve a medal for their stand against her as far as I am concerned." He said before Falkner left to treat his battered Pokemon. Now that they had their first badge they were one step closer to completing their mission.

The young Eevee had already curled up in Oracle's arms by the time they stepped outside, she had such a deep effection for Oracle that he had to give her a fitting name. " Your display of effection is incredible and yet I sense a warrior in you. I am going to call you Freyja from now on. If your personality stays the way it is it will be a very fitting name when you evolve into a Sylveon. A fairy type would be a great partner for Oracle." he said as they walked to the Pokemon center. He then deposited Monolith into the PC so Freyja would be able to stay with him. With that done they made their way back to New Bark Town for more training.
