Mabel fanned the smoke out of her face again with a huff. This really was becoming increasingly annoying. "Listen Kid You're good i'll give you that. But being good can only get you so far in life." The girl was smirking as she said that. "Skitty! Let's show him true skill! GIBE IT ANOTHER TACKLE!" The Skitty Shook off the smokescreen once more, and Charged toward the Charmander and just Managed to hit it, though it's vision was sligtly blurred. Using a non-attacking move so many times was unlike Dark, and he grit his teeth a little, seeing that Smokescreen wasnt working very well, even after using it three times in a row. Even so, he wasnt ready to give up yet. Besides, he knew that the Dark Cave was still waiting for him just up ahead, and he was still dead set on reaching it as quickly as possible. He knew he and Charmander could still pull off a win, somehow. "We'll see. Switch back to Ember Charmander, now!" Dark shouted out to his Pokémon, and the fire lizard gave him a quick nod. Charmander faced Skitty again, and shot another powerful flame attack right at the kitten Pokémon with all its might, as its tail flame continued to burn brightly in the night. "Char...Mander!"

With the hope of reaching the famous Dark Cave in time to capture what lay inside, Dark and his Charmander stood tall against this angry stranger. The boy himself was nearing the edge of his tolerance for the girl for sure, fists balled and teeth gritted it was all he could do to supply his new poké-partner with the motivation to do better, to be stronger. Charmander huffed, digging his taloned toes into the earth and blinking the sweat from his eyes. He watched the smoke wisp around him, heavy and black surrounding the skitty's location. It was a wonder how in the world that pink cat was managing to find him all the time... perhaps she was following the tail flame? This thought in mind Charmander considered a plan. Mabel all the while screaming at the top of her lungs, threatening Dark and his pokémon to no end with empty promises. It was a little hard to concentrate but the fiery lizard figured he had a way to end this once and for all. "Char-mander!" he shouted, swaying his tail to and fro and continuing to make noise for the little cat to follow. The fire type didn't have a problem figuring out Mirra's location, as the smoke was always centered around the pink feline. He watched carefully, washing his mouth in a rumble of fire as he waited for her move. Mabel stamped her foot upon the ground so ferociously anyone nearby could swear they felt a light tremor, "That's it, this is the end of you and your roadkill! You think you can taunt us like that? That lizard can barely stand." the woman fumed, eyes narrowed into a deathly glare. Her lips were thin with rage as she gave her next order. "Tackle it again Mirra!"This was it, Charmander braced. Skitty seemed to unnaturally home in on the fire type just as planned. He waited further, the feline getting closer and closer. Mirra picked up speed in a sudden burst to get freer of the smoke clouding around her, but in that moment is when Charmander struck. His maw already alight it was half a second to release the churning embers unto the skitty at close range. There was no escape. Worse than that, after she had shaken the initial burst of fire from herself she opened her blurry eyes to find herself completely surrounded by smoke and fire. She panicked, unable to figure out an escape as the smokescreen plaguing her left her practically blind. The fire overwhelmed her and she fell quiet to the ground. Mabel watched in horror that her precious skitty had been beaten. So many emotions washed over her being that she stood silent and cold. In the next moment her face skewed into an ugly scowl, hand delving into her pocket and pulling out a knife. She moved toward her skitty, bowing down to swoop it into her arms as she threw the knife with a blind rage. It was well off the mark. The weapon clattering noisily against a building just behind Dark and in a trail of bills. "This isn't over kid!" she cried, racing away. Dark and Charmander watched at the female trainer ran away, as Dark let out a single huff, not at all phased by her knife. However, he was pleased to finally be rid of her, and gain another victory for himself and his partner. "Tch. Good riddance. Although, we may not have seen the last of her." Dark said, as he collected the cash off the ground, putting it away with the rest of his money. "Of all the humans Ive met, that girl had to be the most annoying by far. If we ever meet again, Ill show her why I am not to be trifled with." The Dark type trainer laid his eyes on the last place he saw her, his eyes narrowing into a threatening glare, vowing to show her no mercy if they should ever cross paths again.
Seeing his master's glare, Charmander approached Dark's side, and gently tugged at his pant leg with one of his claws, concerned once again for his well being. "Charmander? Char. Charmander." Dark snapped out of it, and looked down at his Pokémon partner, his facial expression softening. "Im fine. Thank you Charmander. But I think now might be a good time for a lesson, so listen well." The small Fire type nodded, listening closely to what his trainer had to say. "Char?" Dark knelt down, meeting his Pokémon at eye level, and spoke without even a single hint of doubt in his voice. "Just trying is never enough. It might take us a long time to realize our goals, and we might lose some battles along the way, but Im willing to do what ever it takes to realize my dream. And I don't plan on just trying. I will realize my dream. For myself, and Dark type Pokémon everywhere. Do you understand Charmander? Will you help me? I cant do this without the help of my Pokémon." Charmander was in slight awe at his trainer's words, looking back at him straight in the eye. The small fire lizard was inspired by Dark's little speech, as a big grin appeared on his face, and he nodded rapidly. "Char! Char! Charmander!"
At this reaction, Dark returned his partner's grin, and lowered his arm down to the small Fire type Pokémon. "Then climb up on my shoulder Charmander. I think we've wasted enough time here. The Dark Cave and the Pokémon inside of it are still waiting for us." Dark offered his partner a ride on his shoulder, and Charmander smiled, with shimmering eyes. "Charmander!" Charmander happily climbed onto Dark's shoulder, gripping his coat tightly with his claws. Dark then stood up on his own two feet again, and turned to the path out of Cherrygrove City. "Good attitude Charmander. Lets go." With renewed resolve, and his partner on his shoulder, Dark ran right out of Cherrygrove City, and into route 30 as fast as he could.
Ideally, Dark would've liked to get in some more training before heading to Violet City, but he didn't know how long the possible Dark type Pokémon in the Dark Cave would remain, if any. Besides, he figured it'd probably be better and easier to train two Pokémon at once. So he kept on running, ignoring any other trainers or wild Pokémon that popped up, planning to do some more training after capturing his second Pokémon. With thoughts of his first capture in the Johto region clear in his mind, Dark made his way to Violet City, and the Sprout Tower, knowing he'll need to conquer it before going to the Dark Cave. Still, he felt ready to take them on, and welcomed the challenge. Charmander shared his master's feelings, ready to help him clear the Sprout Tower, and achieve his dream too.
