Falkner seemed surprised by the challenger's decision to call their Ekans back and to send back out their Zubat who had previously already fought against his Pidgey. It was a very smart decision, however, as it would render all of the Gym Leader's Pidgeotto's attempts at lowering the Ekans' accuracy useless, even if the Ekans did get to come back in to the battle and the Zubat wasn't able to finish off Falkner's Pidgeotto after the Ekans battle attempts.

"Very smart decision," Falkner said to the opposing trainer with a smirk. "Switching out your Ekans has rendered all of my Pidgeotto's attempts to lower your accuracy useless! Nice job." Falkner commended his challenger. While the trainer had took the time to switch out the Ekans for the Zubat, however, it had given Falkner's Pokemon a chance to land for a moment, using Roost to restore it's health before facing the Zubat. The Paralysis effect the Ekans had given the Pidgeotto was of course still there, however, a very big disadvantage to a Pokemon that usually would use its speed to give it an upper-hand.

"Pidgeotto!" Falkner yelled out to his Pokemon. "Hit the Zubat with a Gust attack!" But before the bird could even make any attempt of attack onto the Flying and Poison-typed bat Pokemon, the Zubat got the first attack, landed a large Bite attack into the bird. "Pidgeotto!" The Pidgeotto let loose a cry as it escaped the bite from the Zubat. Before it could land its own Gust attack, however, its Paralysis condition took effect and prevented Falkner's Pidgeotto from attacking the Zubat. "Pidgeotto! Keep flying, hang in there! We are in this together untill the very end of the battle!"

Venom knew that switching out his Pokémon would leave Zubat wide open for an attack from Pidgeotto, but the ninja was relieved to see that Pidgeotto didn't use this opening to attack. However, watching the bird Pokémon heal itself again made Venom a little frustrated, seeing that this battle would go on even longer now. Still, the Poison type trainer still had Ekans, now cured of all of her status afflictions insider her Poke Ball. Plus, Zubat still had plenty of fight left to offer as well. No matter which way you looked at this battle from, Venom still held the upper hand, and he intended to make full use of that fact. Pidgeotto couldn't heal itself forever, and sooner or later, Venom and his Pokémon would wear the Flying type down enough to claim victory for their side.

With all of that in mind, Venom decided to keep Zubat in the battle for now, and give the bat Pokémon his next command. "Their reeling Zubat! Hit em with another Bite attack!" This was their one ace in the hole. Venom knew that if they could just make Pidgeotto flinch, they could stop it from healing and attacking, and buy them another turn to end this battle once and for all. "Zubat! Zubat!" Wanting to finish this battle just ad badly as his trainer did, Zubat flew at Pidgeotto one more time, his large fangs ready for another of his best Bite attacks. This battle may not have been playing out the way Venom had originally planned out, but he and his Pokémon still had way more then enough momentum to win their first badge in one fell swoop.

Falkner had gotten a bit unlucky that he could not take advantage of Venom swapping out as his Pidgeotto's paralysis had gotten the better of the bird during its second attempt to attack but the bird was still in rather fair condition even considering its status condition. So long as he could keep Pidgeotto's hp high enough Venom would never be able to knock it out as the bird was too bulky for even a single critical hit to bring down. With this in mind Falkner decided to try and use Roost again as he could at least prolong the battle for a very long time so long as bad luck did not get in the way again.

" I give you credit, few trainers put me in such an awkward position as you have and I have to commend you for that. Between the Paralysis and the flinch chance your Zubat's Bite has I am in a really bad spot. Even so I will not give up until I have no other choice. Pidgeotto use Roost as soon as you can to recover your lost health." The bat Pokemon was still faster however thanks to Pidgeotto still suffering from its paralysis and it was a fact that might cost the bird dearly as Zubat bit down on the bird Pokemon's right wing with all of his might. Pidgeotto's hopes of winning this battle started to go down hill but as luck would have it those chances were about to get worse.

As Pidgeotto tried to Roost to restore its health the paralysis showed no mercy to its legs as it collapsed to the floor unable to move or defend itself at all. Pidgeotto was quite a sorry sight as it lie helpless for a few moments before finally gaining enough feeling in its legs to at least get off the ground again. It had failed to recover from any of its wounds but about now Falkner was just glad it could still battle. " That was a close one Pidgeotto. Our luck might just be running out if that is a sign of things to come." He said as the next round was about to get underway.

The results of the last round once again made Venom's toothy grin return, as Zubat began to smile a little himself, very pleased at his good work so far. Once Falkner had finished speaking, Venom gave him yet another response, grinning right at the gym leader. "Your praise is once again greatly appreciated. You and your Pidgeotto are some very tough opponents as well, but Id expect no less of a gym leader. Not many trainers have lasted this long against me and my team for more then a few rounds, but by the looks of it, your Pidgeotto cant take much more of this. Unless it manages to pull off another Roost, Id estimate this battle will end after two more rounds of combat." Venom spoke confidently, almost assured of his victory at this point.

With his estimation made, the ninja figured that the next course of action would be to put it to the test. Another Roost was indeed Falkner's last hope by now, but there was still the matter of finishing off both Zubat and Ekans, who both still had plenty of fight left in them. Plus, there was no way Venom was gonna make it easy for Falkner and Pidgeotto to use Roost again, or any other moves for that matter. "Keep it goin Zubat! We can win this with two more attacks! Use Bite one more time! Don't give em a chance to recover or strike back!" Venom's fangs were just are bared at Zubat's, with a serpent-like look in his eyes as he stared down the Flying type trainer and his partner Pokémon. "Zu! Zubat!" The Poison/Flying type Pokémon repeated his actions from the past round, flying with all his speed at his ever weakening bird Pokémon prey, and then delivering his most powerful Bite attack to the first part of it's body he could get his fangs on.

As the Flying-type Gym Leader searched his head for some hidden strategy to help him defeat his challenger, the battle seemed to be in the hands in his challenger, Venom. Even if Falkner's Pidgeotto was able to get through the Paralysis and then attempt to use the same strategy they had used on the Ekans, Mud-slap wouldn't even be effective to the opponent's dual-typed Zubat. As a Ground-type move, the trait of Zubat being part Flying-type made it useless against it in the battle.

Even so, if Falkner were to continue to try to have Pidgeotto use Roost consistently to keep it alive, that strategy would not be able to pull their team out of the hole that the challenger had pushed the Gym Leader into. The Paralysis effect upon his Pidgeotto would make it so that the Zubat would always strike first and be faster, as the Pidgeotto's speed was cut by the status ailment. It would also give the Pidgeotto a small, but significant chance of not being able to move on any given turn. And as if that wasn't enough, the higher-leveled Zubat was consistently using Bite, a Dark-type attack that had a chance of causing its opponent to flinch. In this case, it was Pidgeotto that carried that chance.

Even if Falkner attempted that strategy, it would be of no use. Venom would eventually get past it. Then the Zubat quickly attacked the Pidgeotto with yet another Bite attack, causing the bird Pokemon to grow weak enough to almost drop out of the air. The Flying-type still hang on though, somehow pulling through and managing to stay in the air. "Now Pidgeotto - a Gust attack on the Zubat!"

Gust was the only attack of Pidgeotto's that it had yet to use in the battle. The powerful wind the Pidgeotto caused towards the Zubat did not deal too significant an amount of damage, however. The Pidgeotto continued to stay a-flight in the air of the gym after the attack, facing severe difficulty in managing to stay airborne after the attacks it had taken this far.

"My," Falkner said with a gleaming smile. "This has been a glorious battle so far, Venom. You have a very interesting battle strategy. Part of it - no doubt - seems to be similar to a style used by that of both Koga and Janine. But another part of it seems to be a unique style of your own, and it is mixed together brilliantly. Count in along with that the bond you carry between you and your Pokemon... I cannot wait to see how far it will take you and your Pokemon on your journey."

One more move would be all it would take for Venom to claim the Zephyr Badge and continue on his journey.

With that round of battle now over and done with, the end result was already crystal clear to all. Then again, it was already clear to Venom in the previous round. The flinching effect of Zubat's Bite may have failed yet again, but Falkner had decided to order Pidgeotto to use a Gust attack that ended up failing to knock Zubat out of the battle. This gave the Poison/Flying type Pokemon a straight path to victory, but even if Gust had managed to KO the bat Pokemon, Ekans was still waiting to be called upon to finish the job. No matter which way anyone looked at it, this battle was over, and Venom was its victor. Grinning one more time, Venom couldn't help but let out some small laughter at how perfectly the field was set up by this point.

"Anything else?" The Poison type trainer asked his opponent a rhetorical question, knowing very well that there was nothing else Falkner and his Pidgeotto could do at this point to save themselves from defeat. Venom then took a moment to listen to Falkner's final round of praise, and grinned at the Flying type gym leader again. "Thanks again for your kinds words, this was easily one of my most challenging battles yet. Honestly, when I walked in here, I wasn't sure who was gonna win, but now here we are. Sorry about this, but its time for you and your Pidgeotto to go down. Zubat will now do just that, and attack Pidgeotto one more time! Wing Attack!" At his trainer's command, Zubat immediately strengthened his wings with pure Flying type energy, then flew straight for Pidgeotto for one final blow. "Zubat!" Venom looked on with his big grin still present, knowing that this final move from his Zubat would put an end to his first official gym battle challenge, and win him his first ever gym badge. "Do it!"

With one last command from his trainer, the Zubat flew at the Pidgeotto and dealt it a final blow with a Wing Attack. The attack sent the Paralyzed Pidgeotto onto the ground, and at this point, it was entirely unable to get up. It attempted to, letting out a small "Pidge..." Before fainting. The battle had gone to Venom. Falkner pulled out his Pidgeotto's Pokeball and called him back. "That was great effort and great work, Pidgeotto," Falkner said to his Pokemon. "Now rest up a bit. You did wonderful."

Falkner smiled at the trainer after having called his Pidgeotto back. "Congrats!" he said to Venominon. "You won the battle with the bond you share with your Pokemon. The power and technique you displayed alongside that very bond was splendid, and made it a very thrilling battle for me. It's been quite a while since I've seen a trainer share the same bond you displayed in this battle. That bond will take you far on your journey. The passion you displayed on the battlefield today will take you farther than perhaps you could even imagine. Don't lose that passion."

The Gym Leader then walked up to the trainer. "And as for defeating me, here is your badge." Falkner held out his hand with the small, blue Zephyr Badge in his hand. He then handed the Poison-type challenger a technical machine and money for winning the battle. "The badge right there is the Zephyr Badge," he said. "As I'm sure you already know, that signifies your victory in the Violet City Gym. With that badge, you will have a more higher status against other trainers, as they know you have defeated me. I have no doubt that this badge is well deserved to you, Venom. You and your Pokemon fought hard alongside each other today. The badge also allows you to use the hidden machine Rock Smash outside of battle to crush rocks. "

"Alongside the badge, I am giving you a technical machine for the move Roost. It is one of my favorite moves. Just as my Pidgeotto had used against your Pokemon, it allows a Flying-type Pokemon to land from flight for a moment and rest up, restoring health." Falkner paused for a moment, and then continued to talk, wishing the challenger luck on the rest of his journey. "I am sure that bond and technique... You will go far. I wish you luck on the rest of your journey Venom, although I'm guessing you likely won't need it. It was not luck that I saw displayed in this battle. Will you be heading to challenge Bugsy in Azalea Town next?"

The second Pidgeotto had fallen onto the ground and didn't get back up, it took Venom a moment to process what this meant. After is finally sunk in, the ninja could barely contain his excitement, and threw his fist in the air, getting a big smile on his face. "Alright! We won! Way to go!" Venom yelled out, before reaching into his pocket, pulling out Ekans' Poke Ball, and letting her out to join in their victory, since she was a big part of the reason they won and all. "Ekans?" Ekans looked around for a moment, not sure why she'd been called out so suddenly. But then, without warning, Venom runs over to her, kneels down to her, and hugs her tightly, not too tightly though. "Ekans we did it! We beat Falkner, and won our first gym battle challenge! You and Zubat did great out there!"

As soon as her trainer hugged her, Ekans started to blush right away, feeling very embarrassed, but also very happy at the same time. "Ekans...Ekans." Zubat then flew down to his trainer and fellow Poison type Pokémon, landed on Venom's shoulder, and joined in on this moment, smiling big as well. "Zubat! Zu!" This moment lasted a full minute, then Venom let go of Ekans, and stood back up. "I cant wait to tell Janine. She's gonna love this for sure." Venom was already picturing his sister's reaction in his head, and it made him laugh a little. Now, with his excitement having died down a bit, Venom turned and faced Falkner once he heard the gym leader's voice again. "Thanks a lot Falkner, I really appreciate those words. And don't worry, this passion of mine isn't goin anywhere." The Poison type trainer responded to Falkner's words, knowing that his love of Poison type Pokémon would never fade away. Not ever.

Venom kept his eyes on Falkner, as the Flying type gym leader walked over to him, then held out the Zephyr Badge to him. The ninja's eyes sparkled for a moment, as he smiled down at his first ever gym badge, gladly accepting it from Falkner. "Thank you so much Falkner, its been an honor getting to battle with you." Staying true to his training, Venom bowed to his opponent, then put his first ever gym badge away in a badge case he kept inside his bag. Venom then listened to everything else Falkner had to say, and accepted the TM for Roost and the money, putting them away in his bag as well. Venom already knew all the things Falkner had told him after that, but he didn't mind hearing the gym leader out.

Once Falkner had finally finished speaking, Venom called Zubat back to his Dusk Ball for some rest, but kept Ekans out and about. Ekans was more then happy to slither up onto her trainer's shoulders, before her trainer turned, and ran for the gym doors. However, before leaving, Venom stopped, and turned to Falkner once more. Giving the Flying type gym leader one more grin, Venom slowly shook his head. "Bugsy is the next gym leader, but we're not going to face him just yet. There's still a few more things that we need to do before leaving this area, but never forget the name of the team that bested you today Falkner. One day, the whole world will know the name of Team Toxic!" Venom declared, his voice filled with the same passion and confidence he displayed during his gym battle just a few moments ago.

"I hope to see ya again someday Falkner." Venom waved goodbye to the gym leader, then left the gym, and soon Violet City too, heading back in the direction of Cherrygrove City for some reason. "That was just our first step Ekans! What do ya say?! Wanna keep on spreading the name of Team Toxic to the world with me?!" Ekans wasn't normally one to get overly excited, but her trainer's passion quickly lit a fire inside of her, and she found herself calling out too, rattling her tail with excitement. "Ekans! Ekans!" Venom grinned once more at his Pokémon's reaction, and kept on running as fast as he could, the pathway ahead of him crystal clear. "Well alright! Lets make it happen Ekans! We all will!" Venom yelled out, referring to himself, Ekans, and the rest of their team. Even the members Venom hadn't yet captured, and would one day become part of Team Toxic too. Venom wasn't exactly sure of who they were or where he'd find them, but he couldn't wait to find out.
