Name:
Finnian Abbot
Age:
19
Gender:
Male
Trainer Type: Breeder
Hometown:
Sandgem Town
Appearance:
He's a bit tinier than he'd like, standing at 5'7" and weighing only 140 lbs. Obviously, it can be incredibly easy to push him around, not only because of his personality but because of his stature as well. He simply doesn't look tough, which can cause him some problems in his life when people try to take advantage of him.
His hair can either be considered a very dark gray or a very light black, but either way it's a darker shade. He usually keeps his bangs out of his eyes with some bobby pins and his hair pulled back into a ponytail. If he didn't, it would probably always be more of a total mess than it already is! He isn't big on being immaculate, and he doesn't have the time or patience for it even if he was, so more often than not his hair is a mess and it looks way better when it's like that in a ponytail. Besides, it's really hard to get a good look at the world when one can't see past one's own hair! Underneath the bangs on the right side of his head, a scar marks his forehead from an incident in his childhood. He hates and is self-conscious about it, so a nervous habit of his is to smooth his hair over it to make sure it's hidden.
His eyes compliment his hair, being a dark shade of blue-gray. One glance at them is usually enough to tell how he's feeling, though he has a rather limited emotional range at most times. There's generally always a happy if not outright delighted expression on his face, including a broad smile and wide eyes. When he's embarrassed, his pale skin flushes so brilliantly it seems unnatural, traveling from his cheeks down to the base of his neck.
Comfort is what dictates his style choices. He can often be found wearing soft, baggy pants and equally soft sweatshirts. Hoodies are what he prefers to wear, but when it's summer and he can't get away with that he reverts to incredibly soft t-shirts. He's that guy who actually owns a pair of bunny slippers and doesn't have a problem wearing them around the house. He also loves the color pink, and has no issue with wearing clothes that have various, brilliant shades of pink on them.
Personality:
Finnian has a case of ADHD. He cannot sit still for very long and is constantly investigating things that interest him. He sometimes comes across as not listening, because he’ll be focusing on his own thoughts instead of whoever is speaking to him. Whatever you do, don’t try to tell him to go get something for you; while he’ll manage to retrieve it, he’ll probably get sidetracked along the way back. He doesn’t realize there’s anything wrong with this and likely wouldn’t believe someone if they told him there was.
While he’s overly excitable, he’s also extremely kind. It’s difficult to make him sad, unless someone is just outright mean to him or someone he cares about. He’ll do anything he can to help someone, particularly if they need to be cheered up. Polite to a fault, Finnian seldom (if ever) says anything discouraging about someone else. One can be sure that, if he does, they deserve it for whatever reason. If he does get angry, it’s not a pretty sight. His skin turns a mottled red and he sputters and huffs out his words with a distraught expression. He doesn’t like raising a fuss or getting angry at anyone, and so he doesn’t do it.
As happy as he is to make new friends, Finnian can get rather anxious around large groups of strangers. Being the center of attention makes him uncomfortable and he will do his best to avoid that. It’s easy to tell when he’s feeling anxious, because he gets quiet and his gaze will flick around as he looks around for somewhere else to be.
His emotions can fluctuate wildly at times, and whatever he’s feeling he feels strongly. There’s no “I’m a little sad” with him, there’s just full on “down in the dumps” sadness. Instead of feeling content or kind of happy, he’ll be excited or giddy. It’s just the way he functions, which can tire him out very quickly at times. When he starts to run out of energy, he becomes very lethargic and actually won’t move around as much. This is when he settles for twitching slightly in his seat or shuffling his feet a bit when he’s standing.
History:
Born in the tiny Sandgem Town, Finnian knew the simple but hard life as the only child of a young couple. They were doing their best to make a living, his father fishing and his mother working hard to make little trinkets of grass, twigs, and shells that she could sell to travelers. In her spare time, she bred Pokemon to trade and occasionally sell, which Finnian wasn't entirely fond of. He thought that Pokemon were friends and shouldn't be bought or sold just because you wanted them, but it wasn't for him to say. He did love it when she sold some Pokemon that she had rehabilitated, however, because he saw it as her ensuring they went to a better home than the one they had left.
As he grew up, his poor parents struggled to keep him in control. He had boundless energy, and he drove their neighbors and other inhabitants of the town crazy with all his running around. He'd cause all sorts of trouble by getting into things and accidentally irritating the local Pokemon (wild or otherwise) and then his parents would have to get him out of it. He never did it on purpose, but with as excitable as he was it was all too easy for him to cause problems for those around him, including himself. For example, when he was young and playing in the woods behind the house with some friends, he slipped on a slick stone in the river and fell, slamming his head against another rock. He managed not to drown, but when he got out of the water he had a nasty gash on his forehead. The scar remains to this day, much to his chagrin.
The logical decision would have been to send him off on a Pokemon journey like the other kids in the village did, but his parents were terrified of what might happen to him if they allowed it. They were afraid someone would take advantage of him, or he'd get into trouble out there and they wouldn't be able to help him. It took years before they agreed to allow him to leave, and even then it was with utter reluctance and many demands that he check in frequently.
Finally, he set off to see what he could find much later than the rest of his peers, while his parents continued to struggle to survive in the poor little village he had grown up in. He hopes to be able to repay them for all the trouble he's caused by making money from rehabilitating Pokemon and taking on gyms, but they're not so certain that will ever happen.
