Lila could feel her heart racing as her Pokemon journey was about to begin. She had just met with Professor Elm and his staff, obtaining her first Pokemon. His name is Charon, a little Squirtle, who could be seen following along behind her. As they were about to step out of the lab and into the brisk autumn air, Lila felt a buzz in her pocket. Reaching into it she retrieved her phone, which displayed a picture of her father. Lila couldn’t help but let out a laugh, as the picture being displayed on the phone was of him making a ridiculous face. She had wondered when he had found time to take the picture.
Not wanting to keep him waiting any longer she clicked the button to accept the call. “You are ridiculous,” she said as she put the phone to her ear. “When did you find time to take that picture?”
“Oh so you saw it! I figured you might get stressed out during your trip so I thought that might lighten your mood,” came a familiar voice on the other end. Her father had always been a comforting presence in her life. Even with him so far from her, he was still able to keep her spirits high. Continuing, he spoke again, “Have you made it to the lab yet? If you have you need to go back before you start traveling to the next town. Your mother and I are sending you a gift. It should be arriving there right about now.”
Lila was puzzled for a moment. She wasn’t sure what her parents could be sending her that she didn’t already have. She hadn’t left Pacifidlog that long ago. “As luck would have it I am still at the lab,” she said in response.
“Excellent!” her father exclaimed. “Make sure you head to the Pokemon area. Your mother and I hope you like what we’ve sent. I have to get back to helping your mother around the restaurant. We love you, make sure you call frequently, and make sure you are safe during your trip.”
Lila smiled at her father’s words, even though he couldn’t see her, “Thank you dad. I love you both. Talk to you soon.” She hung up the phone and returned it to her pocket. Turning on her heel she looked down at Charon, who had been holding her pant leg, looking up at her expectantly. “It looks like we are getting a gift already! Let’s see what it is,” she said as she and Charon made their way to the area instructed.
When Lila arrived at the area her father had mentioned she immediately saw what her father had sent. Another Pokeball was sitting in the cubby that had been designated for her earlier. Lila moved to the cubby and retrieved the ball. She expanded it and released the stored Pokemon inside. A Mudkip was now standing in front of her and Charon. The Mudkip looked at both of them and exclaimed, “Kip!” Charon moved closer to inspect the Mudkip only to have the little Mudkip jump on Charon. The two began rolling around and playing while Lila inspected the ball more closely, having noticed a label on it. The label read ‘Hulk’ which she assumed was the Mudkip’s name. She shook her head and muttered to herself, “I bet dad is the one that named this little guy.”
Lila bent down and called out to both her Squirtle and Mudkip, “Charon, Hulk, come over here.” Hearing their names called they quickly scampered over and stood in front of her. “I’m glad you two became such quick friends. Are you two ready to start our adventure?” she asked. Both Charon and Hulk responded with a resounding, “Squirtle,” and, “Mudkip,” respectively.
Lila finally made her way outside, filling her lungs with the chilly autumn air. It felt refreshing and she stretched her arms across her body. Lila smiled down at Charon and Hulk before setting out to Route 29, to see what their adventure holds.
