True to character, Finnian hadn't been able to stay still for very long. He didn't want to wander around town just yet though, still not being used to being in populated areas. Instead, he'd heard of a place not far into the next route that sounded incredibly interesting. It was a guy who knew a whole lot about Pokemon, and Finnian wanted to meet him. Getting some knowledge couldn't hurt, presuming he could manage not to annoy the man horrendously before that happened.
So, he set out onto the route early that morning, despite the annoyed protests of Talia. Cara perched on his shoulder, watching the landscape around them as they walked. Finnian hadn't quite figured out what to make of the Wurmple, but she seemed like a kind and gentle soul so he liked her. He just had to be careful not to overwhelm her, because he sensed she liked things quiet and peaceful. Unfortunately, he wasn't great at that kind of thing, so it was probably a miracle he'd managed to keep a lid on things thus far.
Finally, they reached the little house at a more reasonable time than he'd left that morning, and Finnian stood around awkwardly, wondering if he should knock on the door or what. He really wasn't good at this whole meeting people thing, obviously.
Talia saved him, thankfully, as she rolled her eyes at her trainer's indecision and walked up to the door, rapping on it with a little hand before he could stop her.

Mr. Pokemon had been facing quite a dilemma lately as he had recently discovered an egg and wanted to find out what species it belonged to however he did not have any Pokemon of his own to protect him until he could deliver the egg to Professor Elm and so he hoped that someone would hear about his problem and offer to help. Just as he began to lose hope he heard a light knocking at his door and he rushed to see if it was someone who could help him out. As he opened the door he saw a young Squirtle with its trainer a short distance away and he could hardly contain his excitement. He quickly invited Finnian and the young Squirtle into his house so he could explain the situation. " Welcome to my home travelers, you have come at a great time as I happen to be in a bit of a situation that I have no way out of and I could really use your help. As knowledgeable as I am when it comes to Pokemon I have been unable to identify this egg that I recently found and I would like my colleague Professor Elm to examine it. I would go myself but I do not have any Pokemon and carrying an egg around without any help might be risky so I have a favor to ask." He said as he grabbed the egg off of his table and brought it over to Finnian so the young man could see the egg. " I know it is a lot to ask of someone I just met but would you be willing to take this egg to Professor Elm so this mystery could be solved? I would be ever so grateful if you would. I do not have much to offer but if you do this favor for me I would be willing to let you keep this egg as your reward. I am really hoping you will help as I do not have anyone else to turn to." He said as he went to hand the egg off to the young trainer hoping the trainer would not reject his request. Mr. Pokemon would like you to get his Pokemon egg examined by Professor Elm, would you like to take the egg to have it examined?

Finnian had wanted to meet the legendary Mr. Pokemon, and being able to do so was already a great honor in his mind. When the man said he wanted a favor, the poor boy could have keeled over backwards out of sheer surprise. He'd never really gotten to see a Pokemon egg before, let alone been able to hold one. To be requested to deliver one was unimaginable to him.
For her part, Talia wondered at the wisdom of giving her overly exciteable trainer something so supposedly fragile. Then there was the matter of the request sending them all the way back the way they had come. Although, they had gotten into a couple of fun adventures along the way, so she wasn't opposed to the idea. Perhaps she could fight another Pokemon this time around! She did want to get stronger, and her previous battle had been so fun!
"Yeah, of course!" Finnian agreed, reaching out to accept the egg he was offered and carefully cradling it to his chest. He was somewhat nervous about the delicacy of this mission he'd found himself on, but he was determined to see it through to the end. It wasn't very often that anyone trusted him with anything, and he was going to change that.
Without further adieu, Finnian turned and set off on his little quest, keeping one eye on the road and another closer eye on the egg he held cradled in his arm, as though worried it would spontaneously combust or mysteriously disappear.

The first half of Finnian's trek back to Professor Elm's lab went by without any issues since most of the people who were on the route were too busy trying to capture the wild Pokemon in the area to help them on their journey to pay any attention to him or the egg he was holding. Just as things seemed to be safe however a rustling in a nearby bush stopped him in his tracks. The young trainer would have been forgiven for thinking it was a Pokemon but instead a man in a black suit with a big red R popped out and ran in front of him blocking the path forward. Unbeknownst to Finnian the man had been watching him since he first went into Mr. Pokemon's house and had been waiting for the right moment to ambush him. As trainer battles were common in the area the man did not really stand out too much despite being a member of Team Rocket but he hoped to keep things quiet to not make a big deal out of his job. " I am only going to say this once so listen good, hand over the egg and you will not be harmed. I am more than prepared to take it by force but since you appear to be a rather new trainer I am willing to let you go without harm if you do. Do not be a fool and try to stop me from claiming this egg for the glory of Team Rocket." As he spoke he grabbed a Pokeball from his belt containing a young Rattata and tossed it on the ground to show just how serious he was about taking the egg. " Rattata if this trainer does not accept our offer we will use force but either way that egg will be ours. I will count to 3 before my offer is off the table and I resort to brute force." After pausing for a moment he started to count giving Finnian hardly any time to consider his offer. If Finnian was going to fight to keep the egg he would have to be quick as the Rocket grunt was not going to waste any time if Finnian chose to not accept his offer. A Team Rocket Grunt is trying to stop you from delivering the egg to Professor Elm. Will you give up the egg or fight to protect it? If you choose to fight he will send out his Rattata (Level 6) to try and take the egg by force!

The noise in the bush was weird, and caught Finnian's attention immediately. That wasn't saying much, considering he was easily distracted, but he was trying very hard to keep himself focused. He let out a quiet yelp when the stranger jumped out at him, and he gave the man a confused look. "Team... Rocket?" he repeated, confused, holding the egg closer to his chest. "I have to give this egg to the professor!" he insisted, not about to let some random person come up and demand it.
Despite the obvious seriousness of the conversation, Finnian gasped in delight when he saw the Rattata. "Oh my goodness! It's so cute!" he squealed in delight, causing Talia to roll her eyes. She jumped up to reach her trainer's belt, slapping one of the Pokeballs there at random. It released his Drowzee, which wasn't ideal she supposed but the deed had been done.
"Oh, yeah, right," Finnian said, remembering what was going on and clearing his throat to try to sound more authoritative. "Aislyn, try to put them to sleep!" Maybe if she could put them both to sleep they could just leave and not have to worry about fighting at all! He didn't think this stranger would make this that easy though, since he seemed to mean serious business and appeared to be quite knowledgeable about what he was doing. What Finnian didn't realize was that a Rattata wasn't the most threatening Pokemon, but he also didn't know it was stronger than his Drowzee so the concern was somewhat warranted.
Aislyn was sent out and used Hypnosis!

Between asking a question that the grunt thought he had answered clearly and Finnian thinking Rattata was cute the grunt was quite annoyed. Adding to the list of things that annoyed him however was a rain storm that started to downpour right before the battle could begin. The rain did not harm his Pokemon but it still got his suit wet and there was little cover to hide from the rain. As frustrated as he was though he knew a good battle would cheer him up and as Finnian sent out one of his Pokemon the grunt had no doubt that his peace offering had been rejected removing any remorse he had for the young trainer. " Ok kid you brought this on yourself, Rattata use Tackle before that chubby yellow creature can use its own attack. You should have no trouble outrunning something of that size." The grunt had guessed correctly as Rattata sped towards Aislyn scoring a direct hit with Tackle doing a considerable amount of damage in the process. Unfortunately for the rat Pokemon getting so close allowed the young Drowzee to take full advantage of its hypnotic powers as the Hypnosis took full effect. As the Rattata fell into a deep sleep the grunt grew enraged as he forgot to buy Awakening just in case something like this happened. " Great, just great Rattata will be out for a while, I knew I should have stopped by the Pokemart first before taking on this job. Rattata you had better wake up soon or else you will pay dearly. We cannot afford to mess this job up." As he watched the rat snooze helplessly the rain refused to let up either really dampening his spirits as the easy job slowly became a nightmare. It was unfortunate that the little rodent was so fast, but Aislyn withstood the surprisingly strong force of the Rattatta slamming into her. Finnian was prepared to call her back, but as he reached for the Pokeball at his belt, carefully cradling the egg in his other arm, the Rattata fell sound asleep. He breathed a sigh of relief, though he didn't dare let Aislyn stay in the battle after her opponent woke up. Two more hits, he decided. That seemed safe enough. One more would be the safest, but he was going to take the risk.
"Okay, go for it Aislyn!" he urged her, trying not to bounce on the balls of his feet. Don't shake the egg, he thought. It probably wasn't good for it.
When he heard what the other man was saying to his Pokemon, he fell still, his smile slipping from his face. Who talked to their Pokemon like that? He was glad the Rattata was asleep and therefore couldn't hear it. "Why would you say that?" he asked in a hurt tone, as though he personally had been insulted instead of the Rattata. He definitely wasn't going to let the man anywhere near this egg now.
Aislyn used Pound!

Rattata continued to snooze as the next round began and the Rocket Grunt could only stand by helplessly as he hoped the rat would wake up before things got too out of hand. " Rattata it is time to get up and join the party, I need you to get up before this job turns into a total disaster." Everything he tried fell on deaf ears however as Rattata was in too deep a sleep for any words to make a difference. Even as it snoozed away Aislyn saw this as the perfect time to attack now that Finnian had given her an order. She slowly walked over to the rat and pounded it across the face as it somehow slept through the whole ordeal. It was not a very powerful strike but it was a start and since Rattata was still asleep it was a safe strike to make as well. Even after getting pounded and rain continuing to fall all over it the Rattata barely moved a muscle minus a few twitches as the round came to a close. The very slight signs of the hypnosis wearing off were not anything to worry about yet for Finnian but for the Rocket Grunt the small twitches were a great sign. If the purple rat was able to wake up quickly enough he would be able to turn the battle around and still make off with the egg before headquarters could think the mission had been a failure. The grunt had not even heard Finnian's question as he was too busy still trying to encourage Rattata to wake up. " Rattata it is not too late to salvage this mess, if you wake up now we can still look good to the bosses, if you snooze too much longer though things might get really bad and you will pay if you make me look bad on this simple job. This job should have been a cakewalk but instead thanks to the poor sense of your surroundings you are putting everything in jeopardy." He said as he hoped for some good news in the next round trying to stay positive about the whole situation. Battle Weather: Rain Rocket's Rattata | LV 6 | Guts HP: 90% (19/21) Status: Asleep! The more this guy talked, the less Finnian liked him. He hoped he could rescue this Rattata from the stranger after this battle was over, or that the rodent would be able to get away from him some other way. At least the poor Pokemon couldn't hear what was being said to him, because it was making Finnian cringe and wince and he wasn't the one it was directed to. Why did people in this world have to be so mean? Pokemon were supposed to be friends, not beings you yelled at! He wondered if there was any way he could convince the man of this.
"If you treated your Pokemon right, they would be stronger," he said, making the decision to recall Aislyn and send out another of his Pokemon. He wanted her to get experience, but he had a bad feeling she wouldn't do much good against her opponent. Hopefully, the brief encounter would be useful to her in the future.
Cara had to take stock of the situation, having previously been on the first route and now finding herself here after a brief time in the city. How strange, she thought.
Finnian recalled Aislyn and sent out Cara!
Wurmple Name: Cara Gender: Female Level: 6 Moves: Tackle, String Shot, Poison Sting Ability: Shield Dust Nature/Personality: A quiet, introverted soul, Cara is also bright and interested in the world around her, though she prefers to observe quietly if not completely silently. She doesn't talk much at all, instead using body language. She does enjoy a good spar every once in a while though.

The rocket member watched as his purple rat continued to slumber away. Despite it all, the pounding of both a fist and the consistent patter of rain, Rattata couldn't have been taking a longer nap if it really tried. Or was it? The villain's mouth skewed to the side in thought. "Come on you lazy rat!" he shouted desperately. "I'd have this in the bag by now and be off if it wasn't for you." The man let out a long aggravated sigh, his mood not improved by the comment made by Finnian then. "Yeah? That's what the kids always say before they're running home crying." He watched the weakened drowzee disappear and be replaced by a little bug. The Rocket spit on the ground, taking a breath and turning his chin up. Rattata's tail began twitching restlessly. "I wouldn't get too cocky yet, just cause he's sleeping doesn't mean he can't pick back up where he left off. Think your puny bug can take on those big teeth?" It was tough talk but the rodent was still curled up on the ground soaking wet. "Get up Rattata!" the man shouted again, forming a fist and aggressively putting it in front of him as if that would help motivate his pokémon to rouse. There was a nose twitch, notable by the wriggle of whiskers from under the paw that had been pulled over Rattata's head to protect its eyes from direct rain drops. It was showing signs of waking soon. Battle Weather: Rain Rocket's Rattata | LV 6 | Guts HP: 90% (19/21) Status: Asleep! (3/3) Snoozin' less peacefully VS
Finnian's Cara | LV 6 | Shield Dust HP: 100% (23/23) Status: Normal Aislyn switched with Cara!((When you switch pokémon you can also issue an attack if you wish; though it counts as 2 turns.
Also, the turn rattata fell asleep technically counts as turn 1. It'll be awake next round, beware!))

When the man replied, Finnian sighed quietly. It didn't seem as though he was going to be able to get through to the man. Better to just let it go and move on, he decided. He knew full well that some people were always going to be stuck in their ways. He had always tried to keep an open mind, but that wasn't how everyone was.
What he wanted to do was have Cara poison the other Pokemon so they would have a better chance at finishing this battle without him having to switch again, for while he could he didn't want to spread his team too thin. Better to see if they could continue to fend for themselves. But, he knew she couldn't do that while the Rattata was still sleeping, so instead he offered a different suggestion.
"Okay, let's start out with Tackle!" he exclaimed, and the little bug obediently ran at her opponent. At least they were almost the same size, so her tiny stature wouldn't work against them here.

"Rattata, enough foolin' around! Get up right and use Quick Attack!" the man insisted. As he issued the orders, the purple rat's eyes slowly began to open. Her trainer's sharp tone quickly snapped her out of the slumber, putting her back in the game. As her eyes opened, a crimson aura began to engulf her body. An unsettling grin spread across the Grunt's face. "Now, prepare to see some real power! You've activated my Rattata's Guts ability."
The last thing Rattata could recall was battling a tapir-like creature. It was odd to awaken to an opponent she didn't recognise, but this was no time to ask questions. As instructed, she charged at Cara with a speedier version of tackle. Her boosted attack sent Cara spinning into the air and landed an impressive amount of damage. "How d'you like that? You rookie trainers think you're so tough. Team Rocket are taking that Egg whether you like it or not!"
The quiet Wurmple retaliated with a move of equal power, though she lacked the speed and boosted attack of the Rocket's Rattata. Still, her Tackle was visibly more effective than Aislyn's move. As she made impact, the rat was thrown back, skidding to her trainer's feet.

"Uh... huh..." Finnian muttered, really not sure what he'd said could be construed as being full of himself or confident. Maybe this was just more of that trash talk that people liked to get into. He guessed that didn't have to make sense. At least the more the guy talked the less he liked the very idea of Team Rocket. What was wrong with this guy, that he'd want to steal Pokemon and hurt his own? Finnian didn't understand why anyone would be like that.
"Okay, well, try poisoning the Rattata now," Finnian said, knowing her Poison Sting attack wouldn't be as damaging as her Tackle, but knowing their best chance was to poison the Rattata and get some extra damage in. Otherwise, even Cara might not be able to pull this off. Good thing he had plenty of Pokemon... but for all he knew this guy did too. He'd have to be smart if he didn't want to have to go running back to Mr. Pokemon's house for help. He really wanted to be able to do things on his own.

No doubt the words of the Rocket were starting to get as dull as the patter of rain hitting the ground. Maybe if it started pouring down harder Finnian wouldn't even be able to hear the ignorant remarks from the man. "Give 'em another go Rattata, tackle this time," he ordered through chuckles. Even though he appeared to be a young adult, the grunt didn't seem to be all that experienced himself. He was more like those young trainers he just finished poking fun at. This was apparent by the way he didn't even understand how his pokémon's ability worked; although for a moment the mere belief seemed to give Rattata a boost in energy. Luckily that gung-ho spurt didn't last very long and nature itself seemed to lend the young wurmple a hand. The purple rat launched into a run toward Cara. However, the bounding pattern of her run just happened to hit a surprisingly sticky patch of mud hidden beneath a puddle. Rattata lost its footing, a muffled squeak sounded as the rodent tried to hide her shock at the turn of events. Her head tucked in as she stumbled forward and went into a roll. She still managed to run into her opponent and cause a bit of damage, but the trip lessened the impact. "What are you doing you lousy rat?"Rattata's head was spinning as she uncurled and got to her feet. She was standing just by Cara, giving ample opportunity for the bug type to get a good thrust of her stingers through the purple fur. Rattata hissed at the jab, jumping away back toward the Rocket. While it was a great hit it seemed some of the mud she had collected on her tumble seconds before protected her from the worst of the poison. "Keep it together. I don't want to see another display like that," the Rocket member growled down at his pokémon. "The next one won't be so easy kid," he added, eyes turned up to the aspiring breeder. ((No problem! I thought it was weird at the time but I didn't look into it at all lol))
The longer the battle went on, the more uncomfortable Finnian felt as he listened to the man. At this point, he'd quit responding to him because it was obvious that it wasn't going to do any good. The stranger wasn't going to change his mind about how he treated his Pokemon. There was the faint hope that if he lost he'd realize that having a strong bond with your Pokemon was more important, but it was only a faint one. Finnian suspected that instead he would simply blame his Pokemon for being too weak. While he didn't want to contribute to any punishment the Rattata might receive later for failing in battle, he also couldn't let the egg he'd been given fall into this guy's hands.
"Hang in there Cara," he said instead, knowing she'd taken some good hits here. They were lucky the Rattata had slipped, or else the previous blow might have been even worse. He had a feeling he was going to have to let someone else finish the fight, but he desperately wanted her to be able to do it on her own. Surely she could.
The little Wurmple was ready to charge forward and let the Rattata have a taste of its own medicine. Her stinger hadn't seemed to have much effect, and she wasn't willing to waste time like that.
Cara used Tackle!
