Norah looked over the railing and finally saw the shores of the Jotho region. It had been quite a trip, all the way from the Unova region. She wanted to start fresh, somewhere far away from her family, so that she was sure to meet all kinds of new Pokémon and people. Although it was also the first time she was so far away from her parents. The first few days of her travelling were quite difficult, but she had met some great people along the way so that she wouldn't feel lonely anymore. In the past years she had spoken many times to professor Elm in the past years and when she told him what she was planning to do, he had told her to visit the Jotho region and that he was more than happy to provide her with her first real Pokémon. "We can finally start our journey" she hummed while looking at the egg she was holding in her arms. One of the trainers she had met along the way, had given her a Pokémon egg. He hadn't told her which Pokémon was going to be in there, but she was very excited to find out. When the boat docked, she carefully wrapped the egg in a blanket and put it into a bag before carrying it off the boat.
Having arrived in New Bark Town, a big smile appeared on Norah's face. She was so excited to finally get this journey started, that she hardly had any sleep the night before. Early morning she visited the Professors home, just before the other trainers got there. During her trip to Jotho, she had read about the three different Pokémon: Cyndaquil, Chikorita and Totodile. But when she had arrived, the professor had told her about the recent thefts that had been happening and that he was now given out three other starters. She had no time to research any of these three but immedeatly felt a connection with the grass type as soon as it approached her. "Hello there, my name is Norah" she said to the little Bulbasaur, which then replied with a happy sound. He slowly walked over to her bag on the floor and tried to see what was inside. "It's a Pokémon egg" she hummed while taking the egg outside. The little Bulbasaur came close and put his nose against the egg, before making another happy sound. "How would you feel about going on a journey with me?" Norah asked him, to which the Bulbasaur agreed by giving a node and walking over to her.
Outside she decided to put the Pokéball away and would let her Bulbasaur walk next to her. It was a great opportunity for him to see the world and them to bond. Norah grabbed out a map and spotted the route to Cherry Grove City. "This way Bulbasaur" and with that the two started walking towards Route 29.

As Norah and Bulbasaur started to walk down route 29 the temperate weather proved to be quite welcoming for the new trainer as a number of people and Pokemon were wandering around the route. The trainers on the route were either busy in a battle or looking for wild Pokemon to notice the two but one of the Pokemon on the route wasted no time at all as it tracked their movements from a nearby tree. The territorial Pokemon was very keen on keeping the trainer away from its tree and as soon as Norah came close enough the Pokemon swooped down ready for a battle. " Spearrrooowwww" the bird cried out as it landed in front of her and Bulbasaur looking for a fight. Though Norah likely did not mean any harm by approaching the tree the bird did not care. The cold stare the bird gave her was a clear indicator that forgiveness was not going to be granted in this case as the bird got ready to charge at Bulbasaur the moment it had a chance. Spearow may have been really young but that would not stop it from protecting its home at any cost no matter how reckless it was being. Having the type advantage gave the bird all the confidence it needed to try and dispense what it saw as justice upon Norah and her Pokemon. The bird did forget one thing though and that was that Bulbasaur could learn more than grass type moves and as such its type advantage might not be as great as it appeared on paper. Even so the closeness of the two Pokemon's levels meant that the young trainer had no choice other than to battle. A wild Spearow (Level 3) appeared. Please select a move for Bulbasaur. As the Bulbasaur took its first steps outside, Norah could see his glance going from one place to another. He probably gained a lot of first impressions as you could see his curious eyes taking everything in. She was happy to see that being outside was doing the Pokemon so much good. Now that she had her first Pokemon, other trainers could challenge her. That made her a little bit nervous. She had watched others battle a hundred times, but doing it yourself was something different. Luckily it appeared that all the other trainers seem occupied by their own battles. Giving her and Bulbasaur some more time to get acquainted. For a moment she was lost in thought until she heard a loud cry in front of her. All of a sudden a tiny Spearow appeared. It took a few seconds for Norah to figure out that it was being hostile towards them. "Calm down, we don't mean any harm," she said while slowly backing away a few steps. It didn't seem like Spearow had understood her and was obviously out for a fight. At that point, Bulbasaur walked in front of Norah and shook his head towards the Spearow, as to tell him that he was not going to do her any harm. "Seems like it's not going to let us go Bulbasaur". Bulbasaur nodded at Norah's words and Norah could tell that hew as ready to go into battle. Norah took a deep breath before telling Bulbasaur what to do. "Use your Tackle Bulbasaur!"

The really aggressive Spearow started to make its move when Bulbasaur received his orders and was quick to fulfill them before the bird could land its attack. The dinosaur Pokemon was not known as a very fast species but thanks to it being a few levels higher it was just fast enough to make the first move as he rushed towards Spearow. The bird was completely stunned by the speed Bulbasaur was able to reach and as he collided with the flying type Spearow took extensive damage from the collision but Spearow was a bit too tough to be brought down by a single Tackle as it recovered from the attack ready to strike back with its sharp beak. As quick as Bulbasaur was he was not able to get out of the way in time as the bird pecked him with all of its might. The flying type move was far from a powerful one but the type advantage played a huge role in increasing the damage Spearow was able to put out in its retaliatory strike. Even with the type advantage however Spearow was still behind as the first round came to a close putting its plans to get justice from the trespassers in jeopardy. The bird Pokemon knew it would not last long against a powerful Tackle attack and unless something changed real soon this battle was not going to end very well even if its type advantage gave it a small ray of hope. The next round was about to begin as Spearow really had to think what it would do next knowing the wrong choice could make this battle go from bad to unwinnable very quickly. Norah watched the tiny aggressive Spearow lock its eyes on Bulbasaur. What was his deal? They didn't do anything wrong. "Good job Bulbasaur!" Norah encouraged when her Bulbasaur charged the Spearow and hit it with a fierce tackle. But as soon as she had said it, the tiny bird Pokemon hit back with a Peck. "No worries Bulbasaur, you got this!" Norah encouraged her Pokemon, knowing that Bulbasaur was well equipped to win this fight. She got a confirmed cheer from Bulbasaur that wasn't going to back down. "Hit him again with your Tackle Bulbasaur!" Bulbasaur nodded and got back into position, locking his eyes on the Spearow before charging again at the Pokemon for a Tackle.

Both sides still lacked experience when it came to battling. Unfortunately, this meant they had limited move pools. Neither was yet capable of astonishing an audience with an unusual move. Instead, they were reduced to repeatedly crashing into each other until one of them could no longer battle.
Just as he'd previously done, Bulbasaur, the quicker of the two by a small margin, obediently tackled his foe. He threw his body at the tiny bird, sending it rolling into a pile of dead leaves. Spearow bounced back up immediately, its face red with fury. There appeared to be a correlation between its deteriorating health and its anger. It let out an odd hissing noise and extended its wings. Then, in a rage, it ran at Bulbasaur and pounced on his back. It aggressively began pecking at his head until the plant Pokémon shook it off. Spearow was a vicious first opponent but signs of exhaustion were finally beginning to show.
