Anya was grateful that the trainer had decided to help her, so it came naturally when she jumped in front of those Rattata, huffing as she challenged them silently, a determined look in her eyes. Though when he asked her to scratch one of the Rattata, something just didn't feel right. Scratch? She had never heard that order before in her life. Her own trainer had never told her to do anything like that. Instead, she turned herself back towards the Rattata. Before she would be able to make a move however, one of the Rattata charged towards Wiggles at a speed quicker than either Pokemon could counter and slammed into her, knocking her over. Wiggles slowly tried to right herself, and Anya turned around, kicking sand and flinging it into her opponents eyes, the Pokemon hissing and chattering at her as they tried to clear their visions.
Wiggles watched the other Rattata, the one that had not hit her as it began to move forwards. It charged for Anya, but all the little Eevee had to do was step to the side and Rattata easily confused her for the tree directly in the background, and hit that instead. It tried to make its way back to its partner in crime but as if to add insult to injury, Wiggles chose that moment to spray a vat of beautiful silken strings, which also just so happened to be sticky to the touch, which would easily slow the Pokemon down.Trainer's/Wild Pokemon |Level 4| HP: 100% (17/17) Status: ACC -1! “Okay, so Anya doesn’t know scratch…” Teddy muttered to himself, “What does she know? Think, Teddy… Think.” Teddy closed his eyes as he tried to think of what moves an Eevee might know.
Teddy opened his eyes to find himself sitting in a tree in Eterna Forest. It was a warm summer evening, and the chattering and buzzing of various Pokémon filled the air. In the clearing beneath Teddy sat a large, mossy rock. When he was little, he had been told tales of Eevee the evolution Pokémon, and how this mossy rock could supposedly cause Eevee to evolve into a rare Pokémon called Leafeon. So every clear summer night since then, Teddy would go to the forest after dinner and stay until it got dark out, perched in a tree above the mossy rock, hoping to capture the spectacle himself.
It was getting late, and the vibrant orange of the sky and pink hues of the clouds were being replaced with the purples and blacks of the nighttime sky. Teddy sighed. “I guess not today either. We’ll try again tomorrow,” he said, to no one in particular. As he was about to climb down from the tree, a trainer came into the clearing. The trainer was stopped by a Starly, who wanted a battle and some of the trainer’s food. The trainer was about to throw a Poké Ball, when he saw the mossy rock. “Perfect,” he said, while switching balls. “Okay Eevee, let’s do this!” the trainer exclaimed while throwing the ball, revealing the little fox. “Start this off with growl,” the trainer said, as the Starly ran towards Eevee to try to tackle it. The Starly’s attack did very little damage. “Follow that up with tackle,” the trainer ordered, with which the Eevee easily took out the Starly. The trainer was about to return Eevee to its Pokéball, but stopped as Eevee began to glow. Both Teddy and the trainer stared at the Eevee, their eyes lit up with excitement as they watched it transform into a Leafeon.
Teddy’s eyes shot open. “I’ve got it!” he yelled, having figured out some of Anya’s moves. “Okay, both of you use tackle on that first Rattata,” he calmly commanded. Anya replied with a happy, “Vee,” before running towards the rats, while Wiggles was too excited to even bother responding to her trainer as she rushed into battle.
Wiggles uses tackle. Anya uses tackle on the same Rattata as Wiggles.

The two Rattata were still slowed down by Wiggles earlier String Shot but that alone was not going to get them to back down. Neither one had any hope of outpacing Anya however as she sped off towards the lower leveled Rattata ready to deliver a Tackle attack before either of the rat Pokemon could plot their next move. The young Eevee reached her target within seconds and scored a direct hit as Rattata slid backwards but unfortunately for Anya she did not have quite enough power by herself to finish off Rattata. Before Wiggles could get her chance to strike the higher leveld Rattata made its move as it tried its luck with Tail Whip. It wagged its tail back and forwards in such a cute manner that both Anya and Wiggles lowered their guard as they were so focused on the adorable display. While the two Pokemon focused on the show the lower leveled Rattata charged towards Anya and scored a direct hit causing a bit more damage than usual thanks to her lowered defensive state. It was still an embarrassingly weak attack compared to her Tackle but it hurt enough to leave her rather frustrated by the ordeal. By now Wiggles finally got her chance to strike as she crawled towards the weakened Rattata and delivered a Tackle of her own. The Tackle was not as powerful as Anya's but it left the weaker Rattata in a terrible situation as its health was at the minimal now. If things did not turn around for the Rattata duo in the next round they might be in a lot of trouble. “Great job!” Teddy said as Anya returned to her position in front of him. The Rattata she had tackled got back to its feet. It did its best to shake itself off, and while it looked tired it clearly had some fight left in it. Teddy turned his attention to the other Rattata. It was putting on a show of wagging its tail around, and Teddy, Anya, and Wiggles just stood there and watched, a bit captivated by it. The other Rattata came seemingly out of nowhere and tackled Anya. As Anya and the Rattata picked themselves up, Wiggles rushed in and knocked the Rattata back down. The Rattata slowly got back up, looking pretty tired as it limped back to its friend.
Teddy knelt in front of the Wurmple and Eevee. “Sorry I let my guard down there, it won’t happen again,” he apologized to the Pokémon. Wiggles stretched out and rubbed her face against Teddy’s as a sign she accepted the apology, while Anya looked back towards the two rats and let out an impatient “Vee.” Teddy glanced at the Rattata, then looked back towards the Pokémon in front of him. “Okay, that one looks pretty tired,” he said, pointing towards the lower level Rattata. “Wiggles, can you give him a good tackle?” Wiggles squirmed around, excited by the idea of winning a battle. “Now that other one looks like it’s still in pretty good shape. We’ll need to lower its attack so that you two can’t get hurt. Anya, think you can give them your best growl?” Anya looked up at Teddy with her big, brown eyes and gave him a nod before turning back to the battlefield. Teddy smiled as he stood back up to watch his plan go into action.

The smaller of the rattata certainly didn't look good at all, and the bigger one looked concerned at it. They wanted the food Teddy certainly had but now it seemed like they were going to need it to heal up again. A growling reached their ears and they both turned to look at Anya, she didn't really sound scary but more like she was purring. The smaller of the rattatas clearly relaxed by it while the other narrowed its eyes suspiciously at the eevee, she was more than met the eye and she couldn't possible be more cute than she already was. It leaped forward and raced towards Anya to give her a good ol' tackle and show her, that it didn't fall for her tricks! Anya had expected it though and she let out a giggle as she leaped to the side and the rattata raced past her. It made a sliding stop and turned to look for her, which it found hard through the sand in its eyes but she revealed herself with her giggling and as it gave chase once more, she raced off squealing with delight, this was fun! They raced back and forth a few times until Anya lured the rattata near a tree stump and slipped behind it. The rattata raced after her and stopped dumbfounded when it reached the other side, where had she gone? Anya was more or less prancing back to Teddy, proud she had managed to trick her opponent and leaving it behind. The other rattata felt very much exposed with how batted it was, and now without its friend! It waved its tail a bit to mimic the waving of a white flag, humans did wave with things when they wanted to surrender, didn't they? Unfortunately for the young rattata, Wiggle did not understand that signal, or perhaps its tail was not white enough. It closed it's eyes as the wurmple came to deliver the tackle, and it braced itself for the impact. It wasn't that bad but it was more than enough and for a time the rattata forgot about its fear and its hunger as darkness and emptiness claimed it. Wiggles had beaten her first opponent while under Teddy's care, but the battle was not over yet. At the tree stump the bigger rattata was looking around and would soon notice where it's targets had went, and discover what had happened to its friend. Teddy watched as Wiggles tackled the Rattata. The small mouse closed its eyes just before impact, trying its best to put on a brave face. When Wiggles hit the Pokémon, it was knocked to the ground, and didn’t get up. Wiggles pranced back to Teddy, and Teddy scooped her up into a hug. “You did it! We did it! We beat our first opponent!” he yelled, uncharacteristic for him due to the small crowd watching on the busy road, but he didn’t care. After his struggles with Charlie, something was finally going right for him.
Teddy froze. Charlie. He gently put down Wiggles, who responded with an annoyed grunt. He looked across the battlefield, where the fainted Rattata was being helped off the field by its friend. Teddy sighed. We were going to be best friends. We were going to help each other, learn together and battle side-by-side. We were going to be the perfect pair, and have the adventure of a lifetime together. I need to make things right.
It was time to face the inevitable, he couldn’t avoid it forever. Teddy picked Wiggles back up, holding her at eye level with himself. Giving her a determined smile, he sat her on his hat. “You did great out there Wiggles,” he said, to which Wiggles replied with a happy but confused, “Wurmple.” The compliment was nice, but what is he doing? There’s still one more out there, we’re not done yet, are we?
Teddy crouched down next to Anya. The other Rattata was back in its battle position by this point. He looked into the Eevee’s big eyes, which he felt like were seeing straight into him, reading his every thought and feeling. He was a mess right now, sad, angry, anxious, nervous, afraid. Anya gave him a nod and a determined, “Vee!” Teddy let out a shaky sigh, trying to compose himself. He took off his backpack and fished around for the Poké Ball inside. Pulling it out, he held it in his palm, just staring at the button. One deep breath. Okay, maybe two. Standing back up, he threw the ball. “Okay, Charlie! Let’s do this!” he yelled, trying to force himself to be optimistic.
The little orange fire type appeared in front of Teddy. Anya watched curiously, wondering what had happened between this Pokémon and its trainer. Teddy felt Wiggles tense up, as he remembered the aggression that Charlie had shown towards her. After stretching and letting out a few tiny bursts of flame, Charlie turned to look at Teddy. Upon seeing Wiggles sitting on Teddy’s head, he let out an arrogant snort. Wow, so not only did he lock me up, but he’s been fighting with that this whole time? He then looked at Anya. Who’s that? Looks more like a house pet than a battler, he thought, noting Anya’s collar.
Teddy crouched in front of Charlie, only to be met with a burst of flame right in his face. Teddy winced in pain, and he could smell that his hair and eyebrows had been singed, but he didn’t move. He wasn’t going anywhere this time, there was no running away. He looked Charlie in the eyes. “I know what I did was wrong, and I’m sorry. I thought I could just run away, and now I know I can’t. I’m sure you’re mad at me, and I don’t expect you to forgive me. But I couldn’t stand thinking about you stuck in that ball anymore.”
Teddy paused, looking over the battlefield. The Rattata looked impatient. “Anya, buy us some time. Use tackle.” Teddy commanded, to which Anya replied with a nod before running towards the Rattata.
Teddy turned back to Charlie. “As you can see, we’re in a battle here, and we need your help. I know you don’t want to listen to me, and I don’t really expect you to either, but I couldn’t keep you locked up anymore,” he said, the sadness creeping back into his voice. “Char…” Charlie softly responded, before turning away from Teddy to face the battlefield. Teddy stood back up. He wasn’t sure if Charlie understood, and if he did, if he even cared. But for some reason Teddy felt happy, and a small smile spread across his mouth as he watched Anya running at the Rattata.
Teddy and Charlie. Trainer and starter. Best friends? Brothers, even? I sure hope so.
Teddy switches Wiggles for Charlie.
Anya uses tackle.

Anya looked curiously at Teddy as he called Wiggle back and giggled when he out the worm on his hat, that looked funny! She gave her encouragements to Teddy when he looked at her and then tilted her head as he stood up and called another pokemon out. "Hi! I'm Anya, are you ready to do this? Me and Wiggles has already taken care of one, but the others will probably come back shortly," Enya greeted Charlie cheerfully. She then stood back as Teddy knelt once again and began to talk with his fire type, it sounded like they had something they needed to work out and Anya wondered what had happened. "Hey hey hey!calm down! We're in the middle of a battle here, no need to fight each other!" Anya gasped as Charlie decided he wanted to show Teddy what he thought of him. A worried scream came from the rattata that was left, when it noticed its friend laying motionles on the ground, and it rushed over to it. It nudged the other frantically but when it didn't react it turned to glare at Teddy and the pokemon surrounding him. To say it looked impatient was an understatement, it screamed a challenge and raced towards them. "Vee!" Anya agreed and ran out to intercept the rattata. The two pokemon crashed together midway and sprawled on the ground ungracefully, Anya was the biggest and was fastest back on her feet while the rattata was sendt rolling over the ground. It was panting but it looked just as furious as before, when it got back on its feet. This needs to be Charlie and I’s battle if I’m going to make things right, Teddy thought. “Anya, I’m gonna need you to help out Charlie on this one,” he said. Despite her cuteness, Anya was a pretty hard hitter, but it wasn’t her fight anymore. Anya seemed to understand, and she nodded at Teddy.
“Okay Charlie, now start this off with scratch,” Teddy ordered. He wanted to feel good about being back on the battlefield with Charlie again, but he also didn’t want to get his hopes up. Scratch? He wants me to use scratch? Has he forgotten how powerful my ember is already? I just used it on him! Charlie thought, bewildered by Teddy’s seemingly absurd command. He began to get ready to use ember, forming a small ball of fire in his stomach. I guess that Wurmple still hasn’t taught him how to battle. I know he seems upset, but that doesn’t mean I can’t teach him, right? He moved the fireball up to his mouth, getting ready to shoot the flames at the Rattata.
Charlie thought back to the battle against Wiggles. The last time I tried to teach him, I ended up hurting him. I just want to help, I always have. I didn’t mean to cause pain, he thought, remembering Teddy’s tear stained face moments before Charlie was put back into the ball. And when he talked to me just now, even after I had let my anger get the best of me and I burned him, he wasn’t angry. But he looked hurt, not because of the burns, but deep inside.
Charlie swallowed the fireball. It’s my fault, isn’t it? I thought if I could make him a better battler, then we would win more, and that winning could make him happy. Charlie saw the fainted Rattata in the grass to the side of where they were battling. I guess he’s been able to learn on his own. Maybe I should trust him more. He puts his faith entirely in me with every command he gives, and I’ve done nothing but betray him. If I’m going to win to make him happy, I’m going to need to listen to him.
Charlie extended his claws, and sprinted at the Rattata.
Charlie uses Scratch. Anya uses Helping Hand.

Anya stood by patiently, tail wagging and limbs aching to get back into action. This whole experience had been invigorating; rejuvenating. A relief from all that came before. Charlie and Teddy clearly had something to work through themselves too. It was familiar. But instead of any rising anxiety the eevee felt calmed by being asked to stand by and help. So she didn't mind waiting for Charlie to get through whatever mental struggle he needed to work through. Anya was ready, ready when he was. Rattata on the other hand couldn't help but feel a need for vengeance against Teddy's combatants. Its fur was bristled, bucktooth bared as it hissed. It bowed down then launched itself forward. A speeding purple bullet the rodent became a blur as it dashed across their battlefield headed straight for Charlie. The fiery lizard had just extended his claws but Rattata was faster. Anya started after to try and intercept but the purple rat was already headbutting Charlie's stomach by the time she turned. The blow knocked the wind out of the charmander, staggering him backward. While she wasn't able to prevent the attack from happening, Anya still provided the helping hand that was asked for by preventing the rodent from getting away or setting up defenses. She pounced on the wild pokémon, surprising the rattata and giving Charlie not just a second to catch his breath but also to step up and land a solid blow in return. The evolution pokémon hopped off just in time to avoid getting in the fire type's way, which left Rattata wide-eyed and at the mercy of a precise blow by Charlie. The tiny claws raked down the rat's side as it attempted to get some distance. It hissed and was brought to a halt. The wild pokémon limped a few more steps before turning back to the duo, proverbial fumes pouring out of its nostrils as it huffed angrily. Padding her way back to Teddy Anya looked up to him for approval, hoping she'd done well for what he asked. It wouldn't be long now before Rattata was out cold just like its friend lying beside. Teddy winced as he watched Charlie get hit by the Rattata, and let out a sigh of relief when Charlie got back up. “Awesome job, Anya!” he yelled as the little fox blocked the Rattata, giving Charlie time to strike.
Teddy watched in awe as Charlie ran at the Rattata, claws extended. His heart was racing, his brain frantically trying to decide what to do next, but the joy he felt as Charlie obeyed him outweighed anything else. So this was what it was like to battle, the excitement, the energy, the happiness. He could get used to this.
With a big, goofy grin plastered on his face, Teddy beamed at Charlie as the little fire type pranced back to him.
Wow, if he’s so happy just from one hit, I can’t wait to see how happy he is when I take this rat down! Charlie thought. Just one more hit, a good ember, and I’ll win this. All you gotta do is tell me.
Teddy snapped back to reality, realizing the battle isn’t over yet. “Okay Charlie, that worked pretty will. Let’s do it again, scratch one more time!” This was it, just one or two more moves, and he’ll win his first battle with Charlie. The weather was beautiful, a perfect summer day with not a cloud in the sky. Teddy thought it summed up his emotions perfectly.
Another scratch? But that move is too weak. What if it doesn’t do enough damage to win? Charlie prepared to launch a little burst of flame at the Rattata. I’ll do an ember, he’s gonna be so happy when I win this for him.
Just from observing the past couple minutes of this battle, Anya could tell that the problem between this trainer and his starter was one of disobedience. When Charlie obeyed Teddy, the boy was so happy, something she hadn’t seen when Wiggles followed his commands. With Wiggles obedience was already the standard. She could also tell by observing Charlie’s somewhat inflated ego that Charlie thought winning was the key to Teddy’s heart. Oh, how mistaken he was. Before Teddy could give her a command, Anya let out a soft, low growl, a warning to Charlie that he was making a bad choice by not obeying Teddy.
Anya uses growl on Charlie!Charlie uses ember on the Rattata.

Spirits were high. The end of the battle was nigh. It wasn't going to be in rattata's favor, but that didn't mean it wasn't going to at least try to turn the tables. If anything could be said of it, it was that it was determined. Standing on shaky legs, barely managing to hold up its own weight let alone move forward for another attack, the purple rat huffed loudly and began trotting after Charlie. Charlie's maw was already rumbling with fire by the time Rattata had taken three steps. Eager to win the approval of Teddy he only had eyes for his target. But his ears were open, despite what it may seem from the trainer's perspective. The warning noise from Anya, though hushed, rang loud and clear. What was her problem? Jealousy? There was no time to deeply consider the actions of this outsider pokémon. The rattata wasn't going to stop cause she turned on him, in fact it appeared to give Rattata more strength. A stream of flickering embers bellowed onto the path. The crackle of fire enveloped the gimped rodent. It was too weak to get out of the trail of fire, too weak to even bear a few steps even. The slightest hint of a burn and the valiant rat whited out and fell limp to the ground; charred grass surrounding it. VICTORY!
Charlie did himself proud and grew to LV 8! Wiggles grew to LV 6! She learned Poison Sting. Anya soaked up some XP into her void, but seems fine with that The last knocked out rattata may be captured by filling in this code: Rattata Name: [choose] Gender: [choose] Level: 5 OT: Teddy Watson Attacks: Tackle, Tail Whip, Quick Attack Ability: Run Away OR Guts Nature/Personality: [choose]
The mood had soured. Well, soured for two-thirds of the conscious parties. Teddy had gotten a victory over the wild pokémon, strengthened his team and the trust of their new eevee friend, but a failure stunk up the atmosphere along with the smoke wafting from the diminished embers. Anya pouted, head cocking to the side in disappointment of Charlie. She tried to silently catch his attention and signal toward Teddy, passing the trainer a sympathetic look. Across the way one of the rodents stirred. It was the smaller one that had been knocked out earlier. Consciousness had returned to it but it wasn't soothed by the company it still had. Quiet as a mouse, the little one slunk away into the trees; abandoning its friend. Not that it could help the larger rattata even if it wanted to. All it could do is hope. And its escape into the bushes was provided a fortuitous cover as another, more noticeable, noise came to be. "... did you go..?" called a voice from afar. It was small, high pitched; a girl. Soon the sound of occasional bush being pushed aside could be heard as someone got closer. "Anya!" She was still at a bit of a distance, but if the name didn't give it away then the eevee's excited reaction would be undeniable.

Teddy was a bit taken aback when he heard Anya growl at Charlie, but he soon learned why. A slight frown spread across his face as he watched Charlie burn the Rattata. Anya glanced back at Teddy, her big brown eyes full of sympathy, before turning to Charlie with a ‘I told you so’ look on her face. Charlie proudly marched back to Teddy, excited that he had won the battle. Noting the stare from Anya, he let out a loud huff. Who does this pet think she is? Why is she so jealous? I’m Teddy’s starter, I’m the one that makes him happy by winning battles. He looked up at Teddy, ready to celebrate. But Teddy wasn’t smiling. Charlie searched his trainer’s face for some kind of emotion, anything at all, but he couldn’t find any. He glanced back at Anya, who still had the same expression on her face. It didn’t make any sense. They won the battle, shouldn’t everyone be celebrating? “You just don’t get it, do you?” Teddy said, Charlie’s Poké Ball in his hand. What is that supposed to mean? Charlie wondered, before being pulled back into the ball.
Teddy sighed, and put the ball in his backpack. He pulled out an empty one. “Looks like this guy’s friend left him, let’s go help him out” he said, nodding towards the fainted Rattata. He wasn’t in the mood for catching Pokémon, and he didn’t really want to force one onto his team either, but the little rat was hurt and alone. It just felt like the right thing to do. He tossed the ball, hoping he can catch it. The ball shook a couple of times, but the Rattata was too weak and tired to struggle. RattataName: Rattata Gender: M Level: 5 OT: Teddy Watson Attacks: Tackle, Tail Whip, Quick Attack Ability: Guts Nature/Personality: Hasty Teddy picked up the ball, and placed it in his bag. “To be quite honest, I don’t even know what kind of Pokémon you are,” he mumbled, while placing the Poké Ball in his backpack. There were a lot of trainers out on the road today, and he noticed that most of them had some sort of device that could scan Pokémon and tell some info about them. Looks kinda sciencey, maybe the Professor knows something about this. After all, most of these trainers look pretty new, so where else would they get it? I’ll head back to the lab and see if I can’t get one for myself.
He was turning to head back to New Bark Town, when he felt Wiggles tense up on his hat. “What is it? Did you hear something?” he asked. “… did you go..?” The voice was distant, but sounded desperate. Anya’s ears shot up at the sound of the voice, and then she darted off in the direction it came from. Teddy chased after, grabbing Wiggles off of his hat so she wouldn’t fall off. “Anya!” the voice called. Teddy came into a small clearing, and at the same time a girl pushed through the bushes on the other side. “Anya!” she yelled, the worry in her calls replaced with glee. She and Anya met in the middle, and the little fox jumped on the girl.
Teddy watched the happy reunion for a few moments, smiling as he placed Wiggles down on the ground. Suddenly feeling a bit self-conscious about staring, he took a couple steps towards the girl and cleared his throat to get her attention.

It was a heart warming scene, picturesque of a reunion of a movie. The girl caught the furry beast in her arms and the pair nuzzled each other lovingly. The girl was just short of her teen years from the looks of it. Short hair with a decorative pin by the ear, a simple dark dress and shoes leaving bare legs with a few light scrapes from all the searching in the woods. "I was worried he got you," she noted, her voice full of relief. She set Anya down with another pet, and just as Anya turned to regard Teddy he took the initiative to make himself known. The girl let out a soft 'oh', turning her eyes onto the boy. After a few seconds she seemed to relax, looking her new company up and down. Teddy's natural smile seemed to bring her some comfort despite being a stranger. "Thank you so much for taking care of Anya, I was so worried." The young lass brought her hands to her dress and curtsied, "My name's Crissy." The eevee at her side mimicked the gesture, bowing her head down like it was a game. She hopped excitedly side to side immediately afterward, drawing her trainer's attention for another stroke down the back. Crissy giggled, quickly returning he attention to Teddy. "When that man came at us we ended up running different directions. He split us up and I was so scared," she began explaining, her hands drawing in to her chest as she recalled the event in her mind. "You... You didn't see him did you? A bad man, dressed like a burglar in broad daylight?"When Teddy responded she got worried again. The man must still be out there somewhere. Anya tried to comfort her. "We better get back to Cherrygrove before he finds us again," she decided. "You should come too. He's terrible," the lass urged Teddy, taking only a single step before a dark shape jumped out of the bushes. "Who you callin' terrible?" a mocking voice disrupted the two kids. A man had come out of the woodwork dressed all in black with a matching cap darkening his face and a giant red 'R' emblazoned on his chest. Crissy shrieked and jumped back. He had come up from behind her. She could feel all the hairs on her body stick up in fear. The girl ran toward Teddy, managing to stay brave enough not to just book it into the woods and leave him there alone. The man laughed. "Th-that's him!" she confirmed, standing just behind Teddy. Anya had taken a position in front of the two friendly trainers and began growling. "No, Anya!" The eevee's ears perked but she didn't back down. Crissy shakily moved forward and made to grab her pokémon's middle and pull her back away. "You can't," she pleaded, adding in a mumble, "I can't."The menacing male standing across the clearing laughed even harder. "It's almost like taking candy from babies. But they usually don't run so much." He grabbed two pokéballs from his belt and gave Teddy a dark look. "This your boyfriend, girl?" he asked, though he didn't at all care about the answer. "He's not going to save you." With those words the Rocket member tossed the balls and released both his purple colored pokémon. "You can either hand over all your pokémon nicely, or watch your pets be pummeled into the ground and then taken."Anya wriggled free of Crissy's grasp and hopped forward again, determined to protect her trainer this time. After seeing what Teddy could do she was more confident in her abilities. Though, it seemed Crissy didn't have that confidence as she dropped to her knees and pulled the eevee back again. Anya didn't want to fight her trainer but at the same time they had to fend off their attacker. "I don't want you hurt again Anya. I'm not good at this," the girl cried, actual tears beginning to well in her eyes.

Teddy looked the grunt up and down, angered by the man’s demands but also puzzled that someone could say such an absurd thing and think it would work. “hand over all your pokémon nicely”? What kind of request was that? Not only did this guy act like a crook, but in his ridiculous outfit he looked the part too.
Teddy knew that he and Wiggles couldn’t handle this guy alone, he would need Crissy and Anya’s help too. But the girl was kneeling on the ground in front of him, clutching the Eevee as tears began to run down her face. “I don’t want you hurt again Anya,” Crissy said between sobs. Teddy had fought alongside Anya before, and knew how capable the little fox was. He just had to convince her trainer that that was the case.
Teddy crouched down in front of the girl. “Anya and I got in a battle with some wild Pokémon earlier,” he said. Crissy responded with a gasp as she hugged Anya tighter, looking over the Pokémon to see if it was hurt. Great, just scared her more. Way to go, Teddy. “What I mean is, Anya is a really good battler, and she helped us out back there.” Crissy seemed to relax a little, as she looked proudly at Anya. The worry swept back across her face. “I’m not good at this,” she said, looking at the ground. And I’m not good at pep talks, but here we are, Teddy wanted to respond, but figured that wouldn’t really help anything.
The grunt took a step towards the pair, clearly impatient. Teddy sat Wiggles down on the ground. “Okay Wiggles, this guy thinks he can split us apart. Show him how wrong he is. Use poison sting on that rat,” he said. Wiggles responded with a determined, "Wurmple," before firing at the Rattata, and Teddy turned back to Crissy.
Teddy was about 10 years old, standing in a clearing in Eterna forest, opposite his father and his Charmander. His mother, who was sitting on the picnic blanket a couple feet away, had lent Teddy her Turtwig. Teddy had been begging his father for a battle for years; trainers who were challenging the Pokémon League would often pass through the town and many would battle each other in the forest or at the Windworks nearby. And now here they were, finally battling.
“Okay buddy, you can have the first move,” Teddy father said, to which Teddy responded, “Turtwig, use razor leaf!” The little turtle threw a volley of leaves at the Charmander, but it didn’t seem to bother the fire type in the slightest. Charmander responded with ember, and the flame hurt Turtwig pretty bad. Teddy commanded another razor leaf, with the same effect as before. Another ember and the little turtle fainted, leaving Teddy disheartened. “I’m not good at this,” he mumbled.
Teddy’s father came over, disappointed in how easily Teddy gave up. “Don’t be afraid of failure, it’s how we learn and grow. It’s not about how powerful you are, battling is about the relationship between trainer and Pokémon.”
The words echoed in Teddy's head. “I’m not good at this.” “Don’t be afraid of failure” “Battling is about the relationship between trainer and Pokémon.” He could see a bit of himself in this girl. She was scared to fail, just like he was. And maybe he still is too. He lightly placed a hand on Crissy's arm, causing her to look up from the ground. “I know Anya had to learn how to battle from somewhere,” Teddy stood, extending a hand to help Crissy up. “Don’t be afraid of failure, everyone makes mistakes sometimes but how else can we get better? And besides, battling is about the relationship between trainer and Pokémon.”
Wiggles uses Poison Sting on the grunt’s Rattata.
[OOC: I assumed that Anya probably wouldn't be doing anything this turn because of Crissy's apprehension to battling. If she does join the battle in later turns, should I also decide Anya's moves or will you be doing that?]

The grunt scowled as he got ignored, that his targets was not scared enough to do as he said he could handle, but that they acted like he was not there at all? "You think it will help you pretending I'm not here?" The Grundt said mockingly, "you will just have to learn it the hard way," he continued loudly in an attempt to get their attention. He looked in disbelief when he saw the wurmple and then roared with laughter. "That is your choice in your pathetic attempt to be a hero? Alright then, let's see how fast I can squash it," The grunt said half shouting to be sure the two kids heard him. "Rattata! Quick Attack! Koffing Poison Gas! And don't hold back!" The grunt shouted and back away as he held a piece of cloth against his nose and mouth. Crissy had difficulties in listening and getting assured much by Teddy, simply because the shouting from the terrifying grunt threatened to drown it out. It was very distracting to her. Anya kept wiggling in her arms without being too forceful but Crissy just squeezed her closer to her chest. She started when Teddy touched her arm and then looked up at him with fearful eyes. "But this isn't just a play battle! That is Team Rocket! They steal pokemon and doesn't care if they hurt anyone along the way!" Crissy exclaimed in protest and once again fought the tears. "We can't even win battles for fun, how should we ever get through this?" She whimpered and hid her face in Anya's fur and ignored the hand Teddy offered her. Then Wiggles came tumbling over the ground fighting to regain her balance after the rattata's Quick Attack had sent her back, she still got an attack she needed to sent back. Anya Growled warningly and tensed her whole body while staring up at the koffing who hovered high above them. It was the only warning Teddy would get before the poison type would open its mouth and smoke fell to fill the whole area. It would taste awful, make eyes watering and sting in the lungs, neither Anya nor Wiggles could escape it and they both started to cough. Anya was still held tight by Crissy, who herself avoided most of it due to having her face covered in Anya's fur, and Wiggles was just too slow. Teddy might be able to avoid getting poisoned himself if he thought fast. A light breeze slowly carried the poisonous gas away and the grunt looked at them with glee. He was certain they understood it was serious now and that he would have their full attention. Wiggles was not out yet though, even though she was shaken by the poison, she could play that game too! As she got a clear view of her target she let her poisonous needles fly and scored a direct hit at the rattata. At first it didn't seem to have done much, if nothing at all as the normal type just turned and pulled out the needle with its teeth with a disdainfully look at Wiggles, but then the poison took affect and it shook violently a moment.
