Sandy hadn't ever seen Darryl so down, and currently, she was angry with both Scatter and Berry. The two had normally teased Darryl, of course, but today, they had taken it a bit far, even as far as to fight her to prove she had no idea what she was doing. Since this morning, Darryl had been sulking. So for now, Scatter and Berry were confined to their Pokeballs for the day. That was probably the Pokemon equivalent to getting grounded, wasn't it? Whatever. But at the moment, she was focused on making her shrew feel better. She'd give her two troublemakers an earful later.
"Come on Darryl, You're a strong Pokemon! It wasn't fair for Berry and Scatter to team up on you like that. I won't let them do that ever again." But the Shrew remained silent. Her ears were pushed back, and she just stared blankly across the Picnic table. She realy had an issue now. Normally, Darryl just let Scatter and Berry's comments roll off her back. But today it was different. Today it was personal. They had attacked her very strength.
"Tell you what girl...I brought a Special move this morning. I was going to save it, but now I can't think of anyone I'd rather teach it too." Darryl looked at her, puzzled as the girl pulled a brown TM from her bag and stuck it to her forehead. A flash went through her mind and she suddenly felt she could use a move, she couldn't quite use before.
"Now, how about we do some training, alright? We'll show those two that you're awesome!" Darryl seemed rather enthused by Sandy, standing up prouder after what she said had fully processed.

Oblivious to the shrew's troubles below, a Hoppip drifted above, floating on the slight wind currents. The wild Pokemon puffed up its cheeks and burst out giggling over the random things that popped up in its head, without a care in the world. It shivered in delight as drops of water pattered down, refreshing the plant and causing its leaves to spring up. It enjoyed a good rain.
Suddenly the air whooshed in a massive gust, flipping it around. The leafy Pokemon appeared to not like this and wiggled its little feet quickly, trying to switch currents and drift back down to the ground. Unhappy with its slow progress, it cried out to a Meditite hiding out the rain in a tree, who reached up and grabbed hold of it as it passed, bringing it down safely. The Hoppip thanked it, then asked if the Meditite would like anything in return. The Pokemon sized up the Hoppip then shrugged and pointed at Sandy. Hoppip cheered and skipped off towards the trainer with Meditite breaking into a run after it.
A wild Hoppip(level 14) and a wild Meditite(level 12) want to battle! Choose two Pokemon?

Darryl seemed to still be trying to grasp the idea of the TM she was just given. It was a strange move to her indeed but maybe it would help a lot more than her Sand-Attack ever had...right? There had to be something useful within the move, or Sandy wouldn't have given it to her. She had to go with her gut and assume that whatever it was, Sandy wouldn't let her down. If anything, she'd just have to put her full trust within the girl. They were finally going to train together just as Sandy had promised her.
Sandy seemed happy that Darryl looked more cheered up. Her ears were perked, she seemed more alert, and even if she was deep in her thoughts right now, Sandy knew full well that was just the way Darryl was, and it meant that she was returning to a happier state of mind. Sandy leaned back against the table, breathing a small sigh of relief. Because she was going to have to punish Scatter and Berry further if they had depressed her for the long term.
Sandy hadn't been aware that the Pokemon were approaching, looking for a battle, but Darryl seemed fully aware. She was staring back at them, wide eyes focused on the duo. She was pretty sure she knew exactly what she wanted. She hopped off the table as Sandy stood up, calling out Spirit to be her back up.
"Alright Spirit, you start with Flame Wheel on the Hoppip, Darryl, you use an Earthquake." She commanded. Darryl seemed confused, as that would hurt Spirit as well, but Spirit looked at her and nodded before taking off in a ball of flames. He seemed to feel he would be just fine, which comforted Darryl a bit.

For the Sandshrew, Darryl had been given a new move that she haven't tried yet. However, the Ponyta took the lead and his body looked like it was burning with fire coating his furs. Spirit neighed naughtily and burnt the health out of that jolly Hoppip. The floating grass type dropped on the ground, unconscious. The Meditite, seeing this opportunity, focused her energy and sent a weak psychic blast toward the Sandshrew. Never mind that helping Hoppip had passed out, having the newly met Pokemon took a hit was fine for the psychic type. Darryl who had just been down earlier could feel her brain being squished by some unseen force. Soon, the pain was gone, and the ground type actually wanted to try the new move now. Darryl anchored its feet on the ground, and then bounced her forearms powerfully. When the forearms met the ground again, the ground shook, shaking powerfully hurting both the Meditite and Spirit. The fire type was okay, as he neighed and looked at Darryl to assure the smaller Pokemon. The fighting/psychic type however, looked like it was having a hard time balancing its pose.
Wild Hoppip- Level 14 Basically fainted Wild Meditite- Level 12 4/32Meditite used a successful Confusion! Sandy's Spirit- Level 27 44/72Spirit used a successful Flame Wheel! Sandy's Darryl- Level 13 31/40Darryl used a successful Earthquake!

"Good Job Spirit!" Sandy called out. Spirit huffed and stamped a hood on the ground. He already had known how that was going to turn out, so there wasn't any need for her praise. He seemed proud however, anyway. He knew why he was there though, back up for Darryl. Unlike Berry and Scatter, he admired the shrew's fighting heart, in the least. He huffed again, as if expecting Sandy to say something to the young shrew. Sandy did indeed look surprised though. She hadn't expected Spirit out of all her Pokemon to take a shine to Darryl.
"Of course Darryl, you're amazing, finish it with Scratch!" Of course, Spirit was ready behind her with another flame wheel incase she missed or something, but both he and Sandy were on the same page. They both wanted to help Darryl evolve, and evolve she would They just had to work really hard.
Sandy appreciated the steed's help greatly. Even though she knew Spirit hadn't exactly taken to the team yet, she did know he still had a heart. After all, this hadn't been the first time he assisted her despite his obvious dislike of being forced to leave his heard. Darryl prepared to move in and take the Meditite down. She wanted to show both Sandy and Spirit she could do this.

With Darryl and Spirit closing in, the Meditite closed its eyes and focused, using its ears to judge the incoming Ponyta and Sandshrew. Then, it opened its eyes and hopped away casually but also skillfully. The Meditite was moving like a ninja, hopping and backflipping and leaping like the number one ninja in Johto, Koga. The small and acrobatic Meditite landed a distance away from the duo, and smirked proudly at dodging both Pokemon's attack. This probably make both Pokemon and the trainer angry, but the wild Pokemon didn't care about that. It calmly walked toward them again, preparing for the next move. Even with Darryl's earthquake taking a lot of its stamina, the Meditite was holding its own very well.

Darryl seemed thoroughly shocked when her move didn't affect the Meditite at all. All she had caught was air. Spirit snorted, glaring down at the monkey-like Pokemon that had avoided both their attacks, it wasn't going to happen this time. The fire on his body flared, and he was about to go in for the attack when Sandy called out to him.
Sandy had stalled Spirit from attacking. She knew that he didn't like being taunted, but she also wanted Darryl to feel like she could take things down on her own. She had to give the shrew some confidence in herself, because maybe that was why she took too much time to think about things. Darryl looked back at her, and she smiled at her.
"Darryl, go ahead and try another scratch, okay?" Darryl gave her a small nod and rushed onto her feet, trying not to think about all the negative things. The last thing she wanted to do was mess this up. Sandy had given her a chance to prove herself as a member of the team and she wasn't about to let her down. Spirit stood steady behind her, ready to follow up with a Flame Wheel should her attack fail.

The Meditite this time wasn't monkeying around or evading its move, instead, the fighting Pokemon was focusing its energy for another weak psychic blast again. Darryl was so close to land a scratch when the fighting/psychic Pokemon sent a stream of distorting mental waves toward the Sandshrew. The ground type grabbed her head and struggled on the ground briefly, as the pain felt like it was twisting and frying her head. Soon enough, luckily, the Meditite stopped since it was weak with its psychic power. Then, the ground type continued her course and landed a final blow on that psychic fighter Pokemon. Darryl and Spirit turned to Sandy to see her reaction after their victory. Meanwhile, though, wild Pokemon sneakily grabbed the Hoppip and the Meditite away from the scene to treat them for their bravery.
Darryl gained 3 levels for winning! He is now level 16! He wants to learn Swift, delete a move? He gained 1 happiness! Now +4! Spirit gained no experiences but he gained 1 happiness! He is now +10!

Darryl seemed really proud of defeating the Meditite, and Spirit would let her have it. It seemed that the Sandshrew never really had much of an issue with battle after all, she just needed the right push, and this chance Sandy was giving her seemed to be a real Confidence booster. That was good enough, it was bad enough for her that the two lead team members taunted her, but if she could get strong enough, at least she could kick Scatter's butt one day. Berry, with her being a water type, would be a bigger hurdle to get through. Well, for now, letting her have her win would be good enough, she was sure.
"You did awesome girl!" Sandy mentioned when she headed over and scooped Darryl up off of the floor, holding her close to her chest. She liked how nice and warm Darryl was, despite the fact that her skin should have been cooled because of the earth-type backgrounds. Of course, that didn't matter. It was probably the sun. She knew she didn't need to tell Spirit that he had done a wonderful job, no, the fire type already knew. Right now Darryl needed all the boosting she could get.
Spirit let out a whinny, calling the others to attention. Sandy nodded at him, seeming to understand what he was on about. If they never got moving, they wouldn't get a thing done. So Sandy followed him. She was sure the fire horse really had no idea where he was going, but it didn't really matter. All they needed to do was train against anything that got in their way.

Spirit arrived to what appeared to be the entrance to Union Cave. In front of the cave, however, was a heavy man who was well-dressed for a hiking occasion. He didn't look sweaty, but more like he was just making a long preparation before hiking the mountain with his Pokemon. Spirit stopped, and neighed. The sound of his hooves hitting the ground and neighing caught the attention of the man. He approached Sandy and greeted with a wide grin on his face. His grin might be what people called "Wailord Grin". Tossing out a Pokeball, he greeted and challenged Sandy, "Heya trainer! What a nice steed you have! How about a Pokemon battle, huh? I'll need a warm up before hiking!" Although Spirit was more of a pony than a steed, that didn't matter. A trainer battle had commenced!
Hiker Anthony challenged Sandy to a battle! He sent out his (Level 11) Geodude!

Sandy knew Spirit was right. They'd never get training done if they didn't get a move on. Darryl relaxed as Sandy adjusted her in her arms. She could smell the ashy scents of the town that laid off in the distance. No matter what, for some reason Sandy never really stayed in that town for long, but Darryl didn't really know why. Whenever she questioned someone about it, they kind of shifted the subject elsewhere. Whatever it was, it was probably something they didn't want to revisit right now...or maybe ever, she didn't know.
Spirit snuffed at the sight of the sweaty man, glancing back at Sandy with a slight look of concern. This guy hopefully wasn't the type of guy that she'd need to call stranger danger on. He reared up when the man tossed out a Pokeball, a loud, mean sounding snort resounding from his Nostrils. Sandy was quick to go and calm him down. She used a free arm to grab hold of his reigns and bring him down. She listened to the Hiker with a soft nod.
"Thanks a lot, I've put a lot of time into raising him!" Spirit let out a small snort, stamping a hoof on the ground as a sort of response. Sandy chuckled nervously, but then heard the Hiker's request for a battle. "Ah...well...I don't see why not. Darryl, you're on again!" Darryl hopped down from her arms to stand opposite of Geodude. "Go and use Cut!" She called. She knew that probably wouldn't do much damage, but at this point she was just experimenting.

With the attack underway, Darryl ran toward the Geodude with her claws glowing white. The expressionless Geodude did not move at all, with its rocky body looking straight at the Sandshrew, and embraced itself for the cut attack. CLANK!-- the sound of Darryl's claws met the Geodude, and it sounded like a weak metal striking a hard rock. "Hmmph--" the hiked grunted as he stretched his shoulders, and then noticed his Geodude had just been attacked. "Alright, Geodude, use Defense Curl!"The rock Pokemon cried a loud "Geodude!", and then proceeded to roll up himself, increases his resistance to physical attack.
Anthony's Geodude- Level 11 28/33Status: Defense +1 Geodude used a successful Defense Curl! Sandy's Darryl- Level 16 46/46Status: none Darryl used a successful Cut! It was ineffective...

It wasn't like the battle seemed bleak for them or anything like that. Quite the opposite, Sandy was fairly confident that Darryl could win if she tried hard enough. But Darryl was pretty much up against...well, a rock. And that rock might as well have been steel against Darryl's claws. A frown played at her features as she thought about it. If it kept up with the defense curl, Darryl might have well have been chipping away at metal. But Sandy's feelings were clear. She really didn't want to discourage Darryl. She had been working so hard. But the matter was that they weren't going to get anywhere how things were going. Sandy rocked a bit on her heels, biting her lip as she thought about it.
"Darryl, use-" But before she could finish, one of the Pokeballs in her bag busted apart, and one of her Pokemon materialized in front of Darryl. It was Berry who had done so. Her scarf ruffled a little as she turned back to look at Darryl, who tilted her head. <<Berry?...>> The confused shrew asked. Berry sighed, nodding at her. <<Look, I'll take care of the rock here.>> She commented, to which the shrew slumped a little. <<But...>> Sandy watched the two Pokemon curiously as they conversed. Sometimes to her, it seemed as if they had deeper conversations than she was led to believe, and she was probably right. But it would be a long time, unless of course she owned a Psychic type like Muru, that she would understand fully what they were saying. She had punished Berry, this was true, but the fact that she had so suddenly exited her Pokeball confused her into silence.
<<Don't worry Darryl. We've all got weaknesses. I can't fight an electric type to save my life.>> She commented. Darryl tilted her head to the other side. It wasn't really like Berry to be nice to her. The turtle noticed her confusion, however. <<I'm sorry. It isn't fair for me and Scatter to judge you like that, even if you may not be all there.>> She commented. <<So let me handle this, okay?>> The shrew seemed to think for a moment before nodding and making her way back to Sandy's side. Sandy looked down at Darryl and then smiled softly. Whatever the case may have been, she had seen the apologetic look on her starter's face. She'd have to get Scatter to apologize later as well.
"Alright. Sorry about that sir...." She mentioned sheepishly, addressing the hiker now as she turned her attention back to the battle. "Berry, use Water Pulse!" The turtle took a heavy breath and let out a few powered rings of water, aiming for the Geodude.
OOC: Switched out Darryl for Berry and used Water Pulse.

The Hiker watched intently as the first round of the battle begun and concluded the fact that both his Geodude and Sandy's Sandshrew were just about on equal footing. With a bit of extra defence behind him, the rocky Pokemon bashed his fists together with an echoing thud, as if trying to intimidate Darryl. Raising a hand and stroking his beard, the male Hiker noticed a slight change in Sandy's facial features, clearly unhappy that his strategy included beefing up his Pokemon's defences until they were tougher than steel. About to order his next attack, Antony was taken off guard just as much as Sandy, as a sudden burst of a different Pokeball erupted, a lone Squirtle now standing by the side of Darryl. His eyebrows raising, the man could almost feel a sweat drop form on his brow. The inclusion of this water type would only mean bad things for him and this Squirtle looked tough. Both he and his Geodude remained silent as the Pokemon began to converse, his eye level being raised to Sandy as he gave her a nonchalant shrug. Clearly, he didn't mind too much.
"That is alright, missy!" He called back to her in a jolly manner, despite knowing that he was going to lose this round. "Let's get back to where we were, shall we?" Since Berry had now been switched in, the Hiker had little choice but to buff his defence up further, "Geodude! Use Defence Curl once again!" Folding it's arms together, the Geodude boosted it's defence up once again but in the end, it was completely hopeless. Showing Darryl that sometimes it was best to rely on a helping hand, the Squirtle sent forth a blast of water which rippled in the air before colliding with the rigid body of the Geodude. Toppling backward from the blast, the eyes of the Geodude swirled wildly in their sockets, the Hiker eventually lifting up a Pokeball and withdrawing his partner. "You are a good trainer, miss. Let's see what you'll do against this one!" Quickly selecting a second Pokeball, he tossed it forward, this time revealing a rather buff Machop.

Darryl tilted her head as she watched Berry make quick work of the Hiker's Geodude. Water was a scary, scary thing that was for certain. Berry hopped back to them and into Sandy's arms, who gave her a soft pat on the shell. Afterwards they both looked down at Darryl. This was her training time, so making use of it would be good for her. She turned back again to look at the hiker as he spoke to her, smiling shyly in response. "Th-Thankyou. We have a lot of work to do though..." When he sent out the Machop, Sandy placed Berry down on the ground, before kneeling to meet Darryl's level.
"Now, why don't we try again, okay?" She asked with a soft look. Darryl tilted her head, thinking about it. This would be fine wouldn't it? The Pokemon didn't look as sturdy as the last, so maybe it would be alright. Darryl slowly made her way back into the area of battle, standing as tall as she could on her toes. "Alright Darryl, good going. Let's Go with Earthquake!" Sandy knew that an Earthquake attack would mean. Rumbling, nearly knocking her off her feet. She went through the same thing every time Hiroki used the move. But Darryl's were a little less intense due to her level. Positioning herself, the Sandshrew got ready to shift the earth's plates under her feet.
