Your Words in my Head
Knives in my Heart
Being just outside the Radio Tower at night seemed a bit odd. But in truth Sandy was just watching the sea. Darryl was perched on the heavy metal rail just beside her. It was a quiet night, with not as many people around as there usually were. For Sandy, being from a small town, this was all the more relaxing. She sighed contently as she leaned against the rail, But she also noticed Darryl still had her focus clearly on the Ocean. So she gently reached out to pat Darryl on the head. "It's alright girl." She mentioned quietly. "You'll get there soon."Sandy knew just what she was worried about. Evolution would come sooner or later, but Darryl's fears were of gaining a larger body, and learning how to control it. Sandy looked down at her reassuringly. "Everything will be okay Darryl, I promise." Darryl seemed to relax with Sandy's words, although the nerves hadn't truly subsided. Now they were only hiding. Sandy carefully plucked Darryl from the rail, holding her tightly in her arms. "Come on. Let's go back to the Pokemon Center."
--It was the very next day that they found themselves back on Route 34. Sandy hadn't actually been back this way to train since she captured Spirit, and it felt odd to her. Even though it had only been a couple of months, it seemed like forever since she had been training to face Whitney. "Alright Darryl, keep an eye out and focus, okay?" She asked. Darryl nodded and glanced sidewards, trying to see where there might have been a wild Pokemon, person, anyone really.

The night was quiet in Route 34. Not many people or even Pokemon were wandering about. Or, if they were around, it was too quiet to tell where they would be hiding, or sneaking. As they were walking though, Darryl quietly tugged Sandy's pants, and pointed at a direction. Where Darryl pointed was a purple spot appearing in the grassy ground. Its back could be seen. From Sandy's height she could see that the Rattata was eating up after human leftovers. It was a tasty mess of ranch dressing in a mix of salad vegetables. The Rattata clicked as it was alerted, and slowly turned around to face Sandy and Darryl.
Darryl spotted a (Level 17) Rattata quietly eating salad in ranch dressing, with croutons and tomato and red onion and olives and lettuce and well it's all for that Rattata!

Your Words in head
Knives in Heart
Darryl blinked as they walked past a Rattata. It seemed to be eating the spoils of a human meal. But it made her nervous when it suddenly appeared angry, turning to them with what seemed like raised fur. Was it mad? She blinked. Was it going to hurt him? The Sandshrew felt Sandy pick her up. "Come on...we better not disturb it." She mentioned, but the Rattata didn't want to seem to let him go now.
Darryl suddenly began squirming, and a bit in question, Sandy let her go. The Sandshrew Didn't want it to try and hurt Sandy. The Pokemon growled back and she could tell this wasn't going to be easy. Shivering, shuttering for only a moment. She let the earth start to align under her feet, and Sandy gained a concerned look on her face. She held her hands out in defense. "D-Darryl, just be careful. No craters this time."

As it stared down the duo angrily, it's oversized fangs still frittering away as it finished off another portion of the salad it had picked upon, it was clear it felt that the sudden intrusion meant they were going to be taking the tasty morsel for themselves. Not on its watch. Watching as Sandy tried to talk the Sandshrew out of the fight, the Rattata swallowed what it had been chewing and pranced from side to side as if to warm up for the fight. Realistically, it wasn't all that up for a battle itself after engorging itself on such a tasty leftover and had been hoping it could bluff them away but they had come to this. Sizing up the shrew Pokemon, it was clear it was not entirely unlike itself. They were both rodents ultimately. A confident wave of satisfaction appearing over its face, it was certainly the last miscalculation it would ever decide upon. Watching as Darryl took her position, seemingly getting attuned to the earth itself, the Pokemon ignored off what Sandy had commented on. Which would be another fatal mistake. Charging on forwards in the hope of launching off a strong tackle to put into the lead, there was but a second in time before it rued following through with with this. As Darryl concentrated her innate ability to control the very ground beneath them, she stomped her foot as a shock wave from under the earth trailed forward. With the very ground itself now quaking violently, it could be seen having a devastating effect on the environment around them. Trees groaned and swayed as they struggled to stay rooted, other wild Pokemon shrieked off in the distance as they made for safer locales. Even a random Pokemon trainer hopped out of the bushes, their hand clasping down on their hat as they made a beeline to exit out of the vicinity. Eventually, a wave of the ground in front of Darryl began shooting up row by row as if an unnatural force was forcing its way forward underground. Attempting to break, the Rattata skidded to a halt only to be pelted without mercy by a stack of the ground launching upwards connecting with its jaw. As it transferred its energy into the Pokemon, the rat was launched upwards and went flying up into the sky, becoming a dot above them as it completely and utterly beaten. The route amongst them had received a good rearranging but thankfully there weren't any real craters to speak of. Just upturned mounds of earth. Wild Battle

Your Words in my head
Knives in my heart
At least the damage had been minimal this time, Sandy decided, seeing Darryl looking at her work happily. She was getting all that much stronger each time, and Sandy was sure that she'd evolve soon. They just had to continue pushing her limits. Darryl looked back at Sandy, and Sandy chuckled. "Good Darryl. I'm glad you're working so hard." She mentioned, leaning down to pet the creature when she got to her.
With a sudden burst of energy, Darryl turned to the throngs of tall grass and began crying out to them. The Pokemon inside, anyone who would listen to her call really. Blinking softly, Sandy stood up. "Darryl..." She wanted this evolution really bad, Sandy could tell that much. It was like she felt it in her, but couldn't let it loose.
The burst of Energy got Sandy going, and she went to stand next to Darryl. "Alright Girl, let's take on whatever comes our way, mmk?" Darryl nodded, and once again let out a cry, this time tinged with happiness now that Sandy was at her side. It would all go well, she was sure of it.

Keen eyes watched as the purple rat it'd been tracking and hunting was dispatched by the Sandshrew. The Pidgeotto cursed under it's breath, snapping it's beak together in an unamused fashion. As it kept to the skies, it circled around the Sandshrew and trainer, thinking to itself. Ratattas were easier prey, indeed, but Sandshrew were usually a delicacy saved for the stronger birds that could pierce their hides without getting scratched. Dangerous prey, instead of the easily swept rats that dotted the landscape like a purple plague. It's feathers ruffled with the idea and promise of a tasty meal, and it coo'd to reassure itself; the trainer wouldn't mind. Getting rid of the weak sand rat would probably score the bird a shot on the trainer's team! How fun would that be? Deciding to make itself known, the Pidgeotto licked at it's beak hungrily before landing a few paces away from the duo. It's eyes studied the trainer momentarily, before honing in on lunch. A quick pass of it's tongue across it's beak probably gave away it's intentions, but it didn't matter. It was a Pokemon eat Pokemon world, and if this Sandshrew was going to get stronger, it would have to go against the food chain. Stand up, and rise above what mere evolution and the way the world works intended for it. "Pidge'otoooo!" It shrieked, flapping it's wings to hover a few feet above the air. It's intentions were clear. This rat was lunch, and Sandy just needed to accept the fact and move on. Pidgeotto was the best waifu and deserved the trainer more than it's lunch. Wild Pidgeotto (level 18) wants to snack battle!

Sandy was slightly startled by the bird that had suddenly landed a short ways away from them. She noticed it eye her for a second, but after that, the attention seemed to fall upon Darryl. It wasn't something she particularly liked. The fact that it was staring at Darryl in this way really threw her off. Sandy blinked slowly, trying to move in front of Darryl, but with her burst of sudden energy, Darryl didn't stay behind her too long, hopping out from behind her leg to get a look at the opposing bird.
"D-Darryl...it looks hungry." Sandy commented, though that didn't deter her Sandshrew. Sandy looked down at Darryl, and it seemed rather apparent that she wanted to battle it. So Sandy nodded, though anyone could see it in her eyes that she was still very clearly nervous. Darryl seemed to wait for a direction, so Sandy, after noticing this, cleared her throat. "A-Ahem. Cut."
Darryl wasted not too much time with taking off towards her target. she wasn't going to let it get the best of her!

As Pidgeotto stared at Darryl it began to feel the pain of hunger as it waited for the rodent and Sandy to make their move. Pidgeotto may have missed it's chance at making Rattata a meal but under no circumstances would it go without a meal any longer. The bird Pokemon waited for Darryl to make a move so it would be justified in going after the rat without feeling guilty of making an unprovoked attack. As Darryl stepped forward Pidgeotto immediately began to go on the offensive as it had the proper justification to attack at this point. The bird Pokemon let loose a nasty Gust of wing that kicked up loose materials from all over everything from newspapers to sand to even poor Darryl. The attack lifted her off the ground a few feet before she fell back down stunned by the birds powerful wings. As she recovered from the initial shock she felt it was payback time. The small rodent ran right at Pidgeotto pressing one of it's claws against the bird's chest and made a horizontal swipe causing the Pidgeotto to screach ou in pain. As Pidgeotto managed to regain it's composure the bird Pokemon knew it would have to try harder next round if it wanted a meal. Wild Pokemon Battle

She knew that Darryl wanted to win this. But her cut just wasn't doing it. However...she really didn't want to let Darryl think that she couldn't do it, because she did. She was just scared that this bird was going to try and eat her alive, and that wasn't something she wanted. Biting her lip, Sandy seemed rather concerned with the shrew's well being. But keeping her pride was another thing.
"Darryl, you're in danger, let me--" She held out the Pokeball, but as she tried to return her, Darryl did something Sandy hadn't expected. When the red beam came to collect her, she jumped to avoid it. And when Sandy tried again, she once again dodged the beam. "Darryl...you...really want this, don't you?" Darryl gave a sharp nod.
Sighing, Sandy finally let the Pokeball rest lightly against her hip. "Alright...I'll believe in you. So use Cut again!" The Shew let out a small chatter before once again charging for her target.

Darryl's straight up defiance was quite a shock to the trainer, yes, but even moreso to the Pidgeotto that hungered for it's next meal. A defiant Pokemon had no place with a trainer! All the more reason to give Pidgeotto it's meal, and allow it to take the place of the useless shrew. After all, the attack it had unleashed prior to now hadn't hurt as much, so why bother? Pidgeotto was obviously the superior choice. Why keep putting chips in with someone that wouldn't pay out? Pidgeotto snapped it's beak in annoyance, and fluffed it's feathers to make up for the ones it had lost from the cut attack. Darryl seemed determined, and usually, that was enough to make progress where it might not've been possible otherwise. Here the little shrew was, staring at the food chain and actively cutting her own marks into it, instead of following what was natural. Darryl wasn't about to be pushed around. Well, metaphorically. When the Pidgeotto unleashed a Gust attack, Darryl was whipped around a few directions, but avoided serious injury after she tucked herself into a ball to be whipped around. As long as her head wasn't whipping around like a ragdoll, she'd be fine. Retaliation was in order though. Nimbly scratching her way across the grass, Darryl jumped up to scratch the chest of the bird once more, which squawked in surprise and irritation. Wild Pidgeotto - Level |18| Health: 26/56 Current Status: Can't cut these flight feathers!
Successful Gust!
Sandy's Darryl - Level |20| Health 26/56 Current Status: I'm no-one's meal! Successful Cut

"Darryl, come here!" Sandy called, the shrew glancing back in her direction. The girl signaled for her Pokemon to venture closer to her, and while this was happening, Sandy watched her opponent quietly. She was afraid it might go after Darryl. Carefully applying a Super Potion to her skin, she soothed it over Darryl's wounds and watched as they healed up.
She knew the bird would get a leg up on them, an extra slot to move, but it was needed for Darryl, the potion she had given her. Darryl had made it back to her spot, and Sandy took a deep breath. "Go, Cut!" The Sandshrew flew forwards, readying herself to attack.

The Pidgeotto subtly smirked to itself as the Sandshrew was called back to her trainer. Bit by bit, the Pidgeotto had whittled down it's opponents health, just a bit further and she would've made a half decent snack. But before it could get that far, the human had intervened. Catching Sandy's gaze, the avian merely flapped it's wings. This was fine, it didn't mind working for it's meal. The cut that it had slashed across it's chest stung but it still knew that it was the superior being in this particular fight. A quick heal was not going to mean that the Pidgeotto had suddenly lost. In fact, this gave it enough time to think up a trick or two, one that would teach both of them for halting the battle for a quick heal. This was a usual manoeuvre it would unleash on it's pray, simply because it was a cheap tactic.
Soon enough, Darryl's wounds had healed and she was free to wander back into the battle, as well as the avian's trap. Immediately swooping forward with blinding speed, the Pidgeotto whipped up a relentless gush of sand which struck Darryl in the eyes. Whining sadly, she staggered backward and rubbed at her face, before feeling a crash against her body. Not letting up, the Pidgeotto had moved straight into a quick attack, which pushed the Sandshrew backwards. Instinctively moving into a ball, the sand still tingled at her eyes but she wasn't going to give up. Rolling forward and practically chasing after the retreating Pidgeotto, when she felt the shadow of the bird above her, Darryl uncoiled her body and leapt upward. Arm extended, she grit her teeth tightly, before slashing forward a Cut more powerful than any of the previous ones!
Striking the Pidgeotto in a delicate area of it's chest, the bird shrieked out painfully before collapsing to the ground with a mighty thud. The well aimed attack came out of nowhere but it had landed them with a successful victory!

Sandy oversaw the battle carefully. And if she were being honest, she was rather nervous. What if this bird really did end up hurting Darryl? What would become of her? Sandy intook a deep breath and held it while she continued to watch after them. Darryl seemed to take a moment to let her orders seep in, and glanced back slightly at her, before nodding. She could do this, and she would do this, because Sandy believed in her. And that was more than enough. And in that instant, the bird was down. She had done it, she had really done it. She managed to take down the bird who was threatening to turn her into a hearty meal. "Darryl, you did it!" Sandy called cheerfully from her place on the sidelines. She had really outshone herself, the little shrew! Sandy ran over to her after releasing her breath a final time, and wrapped her arms gently around the young creature. "Oh Darryl...I'm so proud of you, you know that?" But Darryl was feeling more than strange, and she closed her eyes, slumping against Sandy, who pulled away in feeling her do so. "Darryl? Darryl what's wrong?" The shrew gave one final cry before writhing from Sandy's arms. Her body began glowing, and her shape began to shift, change into a new form that neither of them had quite expected. When Sandy stopped shielding her eyes, the young Sandshrew that had been standing there was gone. Replacing her, was a larger creature, oval-shaped ears flicking upwards and downwards as it watched Sandy dutifully, quills lining its bag moving only slightly with each breath she took.
"Darryl! You..evolved!" Sandy was almost completely lost for words as she looked her over. she had changed forms entirely in one moment. "I...I knew you could do it." She commented with a small smile. Proud she was. "Come on. Let's get back to the Pokemon center, Mom will be so happy to hear you evolved." Darryl nodded. She had really done it. She was really a Sandslash.
Fin.
