Martin Growth GardenerThough Martin had seen the water already, it still surprised him how horrid it had become. It was like between going to Cherrygrove and back, his mind had forgotten the sight in its entirety, and he had to see it before his eyes, before he grasped the true horror of the situation. Maybe that was the case for the citizens too, but this much waste couldn't just be thoughtless behaviour, could it? Martin found his protective piece of clothe again, when they neared their destination. He didn't want to be slowed down by having to hold a hand in front for his mouth or something. He hadn't expected the Pokemon. There had been no sense of life near or in the water until now, so the caught Quagsire in the middle of the lake came as a surprise. The Grimers not so much, since they thrived in this kind of environment. In another time and place Martin wouldn't have cared, but that old man had mentioned the Quagsire leaving, and if they should have a chance at turning things for the better, they could probably start by protecting the 'treasured' Quagsire. Martin disliked Grimers anyway. "That isn't good" Martin stated, and let Phyllis out her ball. He checked if Ethan was following his train of thought, and then told Phyllis what to do. "Try to scare off the the nasty slimes out there. Give them a good Leer."(Ooc: Phyllis uses Leer. At the plant we played it out like we didn't manage to close off the valve...)

OOC: Zigzagoon use Tail Whip
As if the hideous smell and trash and sickening liquid color and viscosity of the sludge wasn't enough, this series of events led to a more horrifying scene, where a lone Quagsire was cornered by two Grimers. The grimers were attacking the poor Quagsire, who had made its home at Cherrygrove City for generations. The Grimers must be the newcomers who were trying to force their way into the Quagsire's home.
Seeing that Martin wanted to help the Quagisre by fending off the Grimers, he tossed out a Pokeball to do the same. "Come on out, Gizmo! Start off with a Tail Whip on the Grimers!" He sent out a Pokeball to reveal a fuzzy furry Pokemon. The Pokemon ran around playfully before running toward the poison types to use the move. "We're gonna save the Quagsire, right?" Ethan asked Martin, making sure he got what Martin was doing.

Stuck in the sludge filled lake, the Quagsire used one flipper to grip hold of a lone, red apple as it used the other to try and pull itself closer to the shore. If it could get up on land, then maybe this horrible poison surging through it's body would stop... Though at the same time, it didn't want to leave. It couldn't abandon its home, Blue Moon Falls, no matter how dirty or inhabitable it had become. As both Martin and Ethan came onto the scene, they witnessed the heart clenching sight, hurrying closer with Pokeballs at the ready. It didn't help that sludge was still pouring into Blue Moon Falls, plaguing the water that fell from the waterfall up ahead and practically dumping the gathered pool of water below with masses of waste. The Chemical Plant from earlier seemed to have a hand in this situation but it was too late now to go back and turn it off, or atleast find someone who could. If they left now, there was no telling how the Quagsire would end up.
Making itself to the edge of land, the Quagsire couldn't pull itself up and out of the sludge but it had atleast made the ever approaching Quagsire easier for Martin and Ethan's Pokemon to attack. Together, both Phyllis and Gizmo were released from their Pokeballs and sent on a Grimer obliterating mission. With the two piles of sludge in their sights, both the Pancham and Zigzagoon rushed towards the Quagsire in order to provide some aid. With a piercing glare, Phyllis managed to stare both of the Grimer down but after a bit of a shudder, they turned back towards the Quagsire. Gizmo also shook her bushy tail around shortly after, grabbing their attention once again. But that didn't last long either, as they were more focused on sliding across the grime. It was strange. The attacks both worked but the Grimer didn't respond to either the Pancham or Zigzagoon. Instead, they both lifted and hurled mud at the poor Quagsire, who was already suffering enough from bad poison. Lifting the lone apple up and taking a pained bite, it was the only thing the poor Pokemon had to keep it's strength up and even then, it was worrying. If the two trainers didn't act quickly, the poor Quagsire would end up taking quite the beating!

Martin Growth GardenerMartin looked on with a grim expression. The Quagsire looked pretty bad off, but didn't seem to want to leave the unhealthy water, and the Grimers obviously didn't help the case. He wondered if he had anything on him, that could help the Quagsire more, than just attacking the Grimers. It was disconcerting, that the Grimers stayed focused on the Quagsire, but it gave them one advantage. Phyllis and the Zigzagoon was more free to move around, when they didn't have to worry about getting attacked themselves. "That's exactly what we'll do" Martin answered Ethan, and paused briefly, while he considered what Phyllis could do next. "Seems like we'll have to get dirty though. Phyllis, get out there and push one of them away with a tackle." He looked back at Ethan, awfully aware they had to work together on another level, if they wanted any success with this. "Any ideas on how we can help it more, than just keeping the Grimers in check?"Phyllis almost balked at the thought of having to get physical with the nasty water, and she glanced to the Zigzagoon that stood fighting ready at her side. There was nothing for it though. Phyllis had no intention of disobeying Martin, and she told herself, it would help her get stronger. Before getting to action however, she asked the Zigzagoon quietly "Will you have my back?" Then she forced her body forward to throw herself at the dirty job. (Ooc: Phyllis uses Tackle.)

"Well, I can't tell clearly if the Quagsire is uncomfortable or don't look those Grimers or sick. Maybe we should monitor its health while keeping the Grimer at bay for a start?" Ethan replied, leaning a little forward to look at the water/ground Pokemon, while trying to not fall and die or injure himself in the process. He wasn't familiar with such a... funny looking Pokemon. Hearing that Martin gave his Pokemon an order, Ethan quickly followed, "Gizmo, use Headbutt on the same Pokemon that Pancham is attacking!"
Hearing the Pancham talked, the Zigzagoon giggly replied, "If our humans are working together, we should too!" He then charged toward the same Grimer that Phyllis seemed to be going toward, readied to take that poison type out.

The Quagsire was in a bad state, the terrible poison making it feel worse and worse every passing second. It didn't help that the yucky Grimer had begun closing in, throwing around their mud which clung to the once clean, pristine body of the watery creature. But it refused to leave its home, even if that meant getting attacked like this. The Quagsire wanted to help restore Blue Moon Falls back into its original, beautiful self but it was struggling to fight back in these conditions. Luckily both Martin and Ethan had arrived just in time but even they were still fighting on the clock. Time was ticking, they needed to save the Quagsire but things weren't going to become better with a snap of their fingers. Instead, both trainers ordered their Pokemon to attack. It would mean they would have to get a bit dirty themselves but considering the thick layer of slime across the surface of the water and the scattering of litter, there was enough to jump across to avoid becoming poisoned in the swamp themselves. As long as they were quick.
Together, both Gizmo and Phyllis dashed into action, the Zigzagoon momentarily taking the lead as he scooted around the grassy bank to approach a Grimer. One of two to choose from, both Pokemon focused their efforts on the same one, for now. Too focused on the Quagsire to take notice, the bodies of sludge were about to be in for a rude awakening. Gizmo lept from the grassy bank with Phyllis on his back, jumping from a floating box to another in order to get closer to their opponents. It was then that Gizmo led the attack by crashing his head forward into a Grimer, Phyllis following through with a side tackle that finished the first Grimer off. Their paws falling victim to the grime, as well as chunks of their fur, the two quickly withdrew to the safety of dry land, waiting to hear back from either of the two trainers at what to do next. Atleast one Grimer was down, that would take the pressure off of the poor Quagsire. Or so they would think.
With a lift of its arm, the second Grimer pounded into the Quagsire. It was able to take the hit but anymore and things would become dangerous. Yet something was likely to catch their eye at the other side of the pool. Bubbles were begin to rise and ever so slowly, two green blobs raised from beneath the slime. Known as Gulpin, it seemed more Pokemon were here to help chase the Quagsire away, so that this place could become their poison playground. Looking to one another, the two Gulpin turned as if to start approaching the Quagsire themselves. Martin and Ethan now had another problem on their hands.

Martin Growth GardenerPhyllis shook her feet tryingly, when hitting dry land again, and she grimaced, but she didn't dare shake her dirtied paws too violently. She could risk hitting someone else with it. Letting them be for now, she kept her eyes locked on the enemy in the water, and didn't notice the two new appearances. Martin saw movement out the corner of his eye, and spotted the two green heads emerging. He visible cringed. "Looks like more company is on its way." he pointed "I somehow doubt they are friendly." He tried to keep an eye on the Quagsire for any tell on, what was wrong with it. Though it looked ill, it obviously refused to leave the unhealthy place. It couldn't be much else than stubbornness keeping it stuck in there, or maybe it was too ill to think straight. "There's definitely something wrong with it, but if poison types are attacking it, it might be poisoned too." He started padding down his pockets for useful things, and came across the Ragecandybar the old man had given them. Annoyed he threw it to Ethan with a "Catch" and finally found his pocket with berries. He took out a soft pink berry, a Pecha berry. "I don't know if this will be enough, but it's worth a try. Will you keep the Grimer busy in the meantime?" he held the berry up shortly for Ethan, so the guy would know what he was talking about, and then began wading out towards the Quagsire, hoping it would accept the offer. (Ooc: Martin uses a Pecha Berry on Quagsire.)

Looking at how their Pokemon were attacking the Grimer, he was glad to see that at least one of them was down. However, underneath the grimes, two more Pokemon showed up, and this time they were Gulpins. Being from Hoenn, he knew a little bit about the poison type Pokemon, and he thought it was off to see them here. In addition, he was thinking if the sewage sludge would be unappetizing to the Gulpins. He coughed sarcastically and replied to Martin, "I am even surprised they like sewage."
Then, Martin told Ethan to catch the Rage Candybar, and instead pulled up a Pecha Berry, explaining that the Quagsire might be poisoned too. He nodded and let his investigator-in-crime do what he would felt was right, to cure the Quagsire from suspected illed state. Looking back at his Zigzagoon, he ordered his normal type with the next move, "Sure, Martin, I'll keep the Grimer busy so it won't attack you. Gizmo, use Headbutt on the Grimer again!" Gizmo nodded and went back to the river, zigzagging as he ran across.

With the appearance of Gulpin, the situation became a bit more serious. If it had just been the two Grimer, then it was something that both Martin and Ethan could overcome by working together. But now they needed to keep their eye out for two more Pokemon and if they were not careful, the innocent Quagsire could be overpowered and furthermore, faint. It was almost their duty by this point to ensure that would not happen and so, Martin took a moment to look at the situation from a different angle. Rather than ordering his Pancham to get out there and attack again, a thought crossed his mind. Searching his pockets for a particular item, he had pondered on the idea that the Quagsire might've been poisoned and if that happened to be the case, then he had something which might be enough to help. Pulling out a lone Pecha berry from his stash, the male trainer asked Ethan to keep the Grimer back, whilst he took it upon himself to approach the injured Quagsire.
As Martin walked forward with Pecha Berry in hand, Gizmo was given the order to attack. Finding himself crossing the dirty water once again, the light footed Zigzagoon approached the lone Grimer with a series of hops and bounds, drawing in close to the puddle of slime before headbutting straight into it's incredibly soft yet disgusting body. Wobbling back into place after the powerful blow, the Grimer barely remained conscious but once again, it didn't turn to retaliate against Gizmo. Instead, the Grimer slapped the Quagsire with it's sludge arm, leaving it to weep in pain. But by that point, Martin was close enough to offer the berry to the Quagsire, personally. Dizzy and weak, the Quagsire squinted through it's blurred vision at the human, just barely able to smell the sweet, subtle scent of the berry in his fingertips.
Without much choice, the Pokemon accepted the berry and gulped it down... Feeling miles better in a matter of moments! Eyes widening, the Quagsire felt the poison within it's body disperse but that still didn't mean that the Grimer or approaching Gulpin were about to back down! Chomping away at the leftover apple held by it's flipper, the Quagsire would be able to withstand the attacks without the horrible feeling of lingering poison now.

Martin Growth GardenerAs soon the berry was out of Martin's hand he backed away to return to dry land. He felt disgusting, and would seriously need a bath after this, or maybe a dip in desinfections, whatever worked the best. "It seems to be working," he reported, satisfied to some degree. "I guess it's only a matter of getting rid of the attackers now." He nodded towards the three poison types. "Phyllis, Tackle the closest threat to Quagsire." He immediately followed up. It looked considerable weakened, and Martin felt sure Phyllis could take it out in one go now. Phyllis, having stood this round out, had had time to discover the new appearances, and she wasn't happy. She was all too familiar with Gulpin from her old home, and though they had never thrived in the grassy plains enough to turn a problem, she had always disliked when they gathered in particular trash littered places. She wanted to hit them immediately, but Martin had ordered her elsewhere. She returned attention to the Grimer, but not without shooting a warning the Zigzagoon's way first. "Watch out for the green ones. They like to gang up on others."(Ooc: Phyllis aims a Tackle at the Grimer)

Ethan watched as his Zigzagoon went for another headbutt attack. He wasn't really paying much close attention to his own Pokemon, as he was more cautious about watching Martin to give the Quagsire the Pecha Berry, hoping he wouldn't accidentally slip in this slimy sludge of a mess. Thankfully, he went and returned safely, and he let his mind relax about the pretense that Martin could fall from these slippery sludge slime.
As Martin had sent his Pancham to attack the Grimer, Ethan figured that he could have his Zigzagoon to attack those green blobs known as Gulpin. "Gizmo, you did great, we're going to let them finish the Grimer while we're getting a head start on the Gulpin, ok? Use Tail Whip on them." The normal type Pokemon nodded, both to Ethan and then his partner, and then dashed off toward the poison types to attack the second waves. On the plus side, Ethan could start to see the Quagsire looking better. Now, they just need to knock off those poison invasive species.

Clearly relieved by the Pecha Berry, Quagsire wasn't suffering as much as it had prior. Although the second wave of Pokemon had appeared, the blue creature didn't appear as dire, and instead looked as though it would be willing to fight as well. However, all it could manage was to nibble at it's food occasionally. It was putting a lot of trust in the hands of the two trainers and their formitable Pokemon. Grimer continued to sludge closer, waiting for the right opportunity to take Quagsire by surprise with a pound. However, it seemed as though the defending Pokemon were faster. The Pancham saw the opportunity to take out Grimer before any 'extra' damage came to the Quagsire, attacking the greasy sludge with extreme prejudice. Grimer let out a gurgling cry before appearing to dissipate in itself. The sludge fainted, spreading across the battlefield in it's unconscious state. The Gulpin inched forward slowly, eyeing the Rage Candy Bar that Quagsire had beside it. Zigzagoon decided to give it something else to focus on, using it's tail whip to catch the Gulpin off guard. The Pokemon seemed startled, but continued forward either way although they seemed slightly more wary. Both Pokemon were next to Quagsire, but lucky for the blue Pokemon it's rage candy bar was safe... for now. Both green Pokemon shot forward with surprising speed to pound the Quagsire. Quagsire let out a grunt with each attack, clearly feeling the pain. Those Gulpin packed punches. Quagsire had packed a lunch, however, and was able to nibble on it's leftovers. Expecting another wave of nausea Quagsire was pleasantlysurprised. It glanced over at the trainer that gave it the berry thankfully. Quagsire (42/74) Status: Normal Item:

Martin Growth GardenerMartin trudged back to Ethan only listening to the result of Phyllis dealing with the last Grimer. Out the corner of his eye, he saw the Zigzagoon, Gizmo, was it?, swing its tail to soften the Gulpins up, and turned around just in time to see the Gulpins start battering the Quagsire. He frowned. He wasn't worried per se, but he did wonder if the Grimer had actually helped keep the Gulpin at bay by its presence. No use regretting that now. Martin reached Ethan and leaned down slightly to talk quietly near his ear, making sure the Gulpin wouldn't hear a word "Your Gizmo seem a bit faster than my Phyllis. Would you mind getting it to do another Tail Whip, before I send Phyllis out there with a Tackle again?" He caught Ethan's eyes while waiting for his response, and stepped back to prepare for the next attack. When Ethan was ready, he gave his own order. "Tackle again, Phyllis. Get them down."Phyllis had barely made it back to land, before she was ordered out again. She turned on a platter, pumping her fists in eagerness to get to the green glops. She would only be satisfied when they couldn't move anymore. "Our turn to gang up on them!" she promised the Zigzagoon, and struggled to keep up with the fast racoon. (Ooc: Phyllis goes for another Tackle. I do believe the Pecha Berry was never taken out of Martin's inventory. He still has 3 of them.)

Notice that Martin was acting carefully, perhaps to avoid the Gulpin hearing, he heard the gardener comment about his Zigzagoon's speed, and the idea for the next turn of battle. Ethan smiled, as there was no denying that his Zigzagoon would be faster, perhaps due to the normal type being trained and having more experiences than the Pancham. "Got it, Martin. I was going to have Gizmo use another Tail Whip anyways, just like how we defeat the Grimers." He replied back softly, avoiding being too loud to catch the poison type's attention. Then, he turned to his Zigzagoon and ordered another Tail Whip, just like before.
"I'm going to need a big shower after this, or a big rain to clean up my furs," the Zigzagoon commented with the Pancham, before heading off for another Tail Whip. Then he smiled and darted off for another fur shedding tail whipping. He didn't mind shedding his sticky furs on those bad Bulpins.

The Gulpin continued to stare down the poor Quagsire as Ethan and Martin started to plot amongst themselves. The debuff-then-strike tactic had worked incredibly well before, and it seemed that the pair had absolutely no intention of deviating from this strategy. Quagsire carried on nibbling on the ever-vanishing, yet somehow still existent apple core that it was clutching onto for dear life right now. Even without the poison harming its body, Quagsire was still in quite an uncomfortable state right now, and these Gulpin weren’t going to let it recover at all. But, before they could get another pair of attacks in, there was work to be done. Gizmo once more stepped between the Poison types and their prey, waggling his tail at them fiercely. The attack seemed to sufficiently bother the Gulpin, and they cowered in fear of the mighty GizmoTail before them. This for some reason caused them to visibly lower their guard. Not stopping to admire Gizmo’s work, Phyllis braced herself before making a beeline straight for one of the Gulpin, baring a shoulder. She rammed into her opponent as hard as she could, which was quite hard now that the Tail Whips had done their job. The Gulpin cried out in total agony, the Tackle having done much more than it probably expected. It flopped about in the sludge, rolling a couple of feet or so before righting itself and shaking off the distress caused. It quickly edged back toward Quagsire along with its partner in crime, and both soon unleashed another powerful Pound attack on the Water/Ground dual-type. Quagsire sighed and grimaced, having gotten a little used to the attacks by now. It continued to eat away at its Leftover apple, with the Rage Candy Bar still very much available. Though the Gulpin seemed to have noticed it now. Perhaps that would be next after the Quagsire fell. Quagsire (30/74) Status: Normal Item:
