[attr="class","info-box"] Damien Theobald Shay, the inexperienced ranger
[attr="class","info-box"] 19 Yrs Old (Started 17)
[attr="class","info-box"] From Azalea, Johto
[attr="class","info-box"] Male
[attr="class","info-box"] 5'9"
[attr="class","info-box"] 150 lbs

[attr="class","container-title"] General Appearance
[attr="class","body-container"] Standing at a decent height of five foot eight Damien is nothing that extraordinary. He's fit and slender, of average weight if not a tad scrawny, faintly toned due to the abundance of exercise he subjects himself to each day, and tends to adorn himself with rusty reds and faded blacks. By far his sharpest feature would be the striking ice blue eyes, of which clash pretty badly with the colors of his attire. Thanks to spending a majority of his days outdoors his skin is lightly tanned with only a small cross-shaped scar on his left cheek blemishing his face. His arms, though, are another story. Often riddled with small cuts from bush and branch. And yet he hasn't switched to long sleeve shirts.
His typical attire is a ragtag ranger outfit of signature colors. It's well worn, colors faded, resown in many places, but fits his form well. He hides a collared black shirt under a tanned neck scarf and paled red vest. His cargo pants, held up with a thin belt, have dulled to a dark grey with the knees barely hanging together but whose pockets are often brimming with objects; whether they be useful or simply an interesting rock. His red boots are well kept and probably the nicest piece of clothing he owns. Made for comfortable travel and keeping his feet warm. While often he protects his hands with gloves they still possess many callouses from the climbing and equipment repair of his typical day. And finally he has his hat. The old tattered red thing that sits on his head every day, though he's polite enough not to wear it inside.
Overall, despite his frayed apparel, Damien keeps an approachable look about him. Always with a smile or calm expression and a relaxed posture, the boy holds a friendly and trustworthy air about him.

[attr="class","container-title"] Personality
[attr="class","body-container"] Riley, Damien's little brother, could sum him up with a simple phrase: the best big brother ever! Damien tries his best to be a good role model for both his little brother and for others. He may be young but already he has plans for the future and how he's going to get there, but he wouldn't put undue stress on his family in order to do so. The young man is very considerate of others and will take time out of his day to aid others even if it's a bit out of his way; most days. There are of course those moments of impatience or 'selfish' desire that would cause him to turn away a request should it not be of utmost importance or urgency. These moments don't come too often since most of the time he's aimlessly wandering for the sake of being around should he be needed.
Damien has taken up a persona of a 'ranger' mostly out of his tendency to always be out and about. He isn't that great at judging much about pokemon beyond what they show on the surface, isn't very nature savvy beyond common sense and stuff he's gleaned from the truly experienced around him, and doesn't have too much worldly knowledge or good experience with the wilds. At best he knows how to find trails and keep a sense of direction so he doesn't get lost.
His curiosity and willingness to learn makes him a notable jack-of-all-trades but with no particularly great skill in any one thing. Damien's relaxed temperament can occasionally come off as uncaring to those emotionally opposed to his point of view but he does well in remaining calm and try to diffuse the situation with reasoning. Most times such a heated discussion he would allow to fade off with the other feeling they were in the right, but when it comes to something he deems morally wrong the ranger stands tall against it. About the only time he will confront someone and discard his happy-helpful nature is in the face of injustice.

[attr="class","container-title"] History
[attr="class","body-container"] Since he can remember Damien has been taking care of his little brother, Riley, while his mother, Juli, spent her days working to get food on the table and pay for the care of her children. He doesn't remember much of his father save for the fond tales Juli tells her children and little hints of memories. Why he isn't around isn't one such story she tells, but he hasn't ever heard her speak poorly of the man. All Damien knows is he isn't deceased. Mix this with the fact that he was a law enforcer decades ago and you have Damien's fascination with upstanding morals and a somewhat jaded perspective of the proverbial grey area. It has always been a quiet dream of his to get to know this idol and for now dreaming to be a part of the peace keeping force, helping others and protecting them from those who would do wrong, this would have to do.
But family always comes first. His mother works as a forester, keeping a balance between the growth and safety of Azalea town and the preservation of the wilds surrounding it. She was around as much as she could be but during the day it was just the boys; so it was up to Damien to be the big brother. At first he was unsure of this task but the young ranger found his footing and had no trouble taking care of Riley without it feeling like a burden. He taught Riley things, showed him places, told him stories, and made daring explorations with his little brother cheering him on. This quite often got them into little bits of trouble but the town being as small as it is it was hard to get into anything too dangerous. One of their favorite past times was finding interesting acorns and seeing if Kurt was able to make them something special. Most of it was malformed acorns so nothing ever came of it, but the elderly maker did give them interesting stories that kept them hunting for the ultimate acorn.
As Riley turned 11 and was able to reliably take care of himself Damien began thinking about things that he would like to do beyond the little town of Azalea. Everyone knew of his ambition, even allowing him special opportunities to practice tracking down lost items or finding the culprit in games, so it was unsurprising when he made his request to leave for New Bark to begin his pokémon journey. He spent the next couple of months helping around town more seriously in order to save up some Pokédollars so as to not put any strain on his mother's funds. As well as to learn more about how to get to New Bark town and other tidbits of wisdom that would get him there safely.

[attr="class","container-title"] Goals & Other Info
[attr="class","body-container"] When Damien was 11 and showing his little brother (Age 5) around the near forests he accidentally disturbed a spearow's nest. This resulted in some aggressive counter measures that left him with his scarred cheek. This encounter may be part of why he's delayed departing on his quest and why he began with a mild fear of bird pokémon. Over his travels though this fear has lessened. Mostly thanks to his pidgey, Cyrus.
Riley's birthday is July 10, and he is 6 years younger than Damien. He caught a paras named Borris when he was 12.
Damien wants more experience: of the world, of people, of pokémon, of places... anything. But this is only a stepping stone to where he wants to end up. Ultimately he would like to be a part of the police force. Helping people and standing up against injustice on a higher level than sleuthing out playful thefts.
After an encounter with a stray Rocket member just outside of Violet City Damien received information that the infamous organization was back on the rise. Langley's cruelty toward her own pokémon made him even more determined in his goal to protect others, such as the Youngster Albert, from being victim to Team Rocket's ploys. Unfortunately Langley escaped using a cloaking device, but he beat her once and should he ever meet her or another Rocket member again, he'll be ready to stop them.
