The Houndoom blew hard, her breaths visible in the chilly air. Her eyes locked onto her prey, watching the deer Pokemon flash its tail in alarm. It leaped over a high-lying log, and she ducked under it. It ran as fast as it could, trying desperately to get to the field where it would have a larger fighting chance. It was larger, bulkier than she – if it tried to fight her in the woods, it would have no chance of dodging her.
The Houndoom shot a burst of embers at the grass-type Pokemon's hooves. It stumbled. She leaped.
The Sawsbuck collapsed as she unbalanced it, knocking it onto its side. With a flash of fangs, she ended its life. Satisfied, she began to tear into her meal, gulping it down greedily. It had been a hard winter – this meal could satisfy her for days: weeks if she was careful.
She paused, head jerking up. She could have sworn she'd seen something moving.
"Hasn't anyone told you not to trespass other's territory,"came a cold snarl. A Mightyena padded out of the shadows of the tree, lips curled back to show his fangs.
"That buck there is mine. It came into my hunting territory,"the dog growled, glaring hostilely at the Houndoom. "I'll give you 5 seconds to go off with your tail between your legs. Or there will be consequences,"the Mightyena warned, lashing his tail.
The winter was certainly hard for all Pokemon, and every source of meat was precious. The Mightyena was willing to fight for it.
