...
It didn't seem like long, but eventually Sam came to. She was on her back... being drug, maybe? Before she could inhale and yell, a sharp pain resounded in her head. Something hit her head hard. Was it the Onix? Or a rock? The ground was soft and fluffy, which didn't seem right. When was grass yellow and orange? Clenching her fingers in what she thought was grass ended up being a handful of fur. Moving her eyes to the right betrayed the illusion that she was being drug. No, she was being carried on a Pokemon. The grass, and Blue, was further down, walking alongside whatever was carrying her. Her backpack was in Blue's mouth, albeit dirty and a little beat up. "Hnng..." Sam reached up and touched her head with her hand. A swollen bump reacted to her touch, and whatever Pokemon was carrying her stopped as soon as she stirred.
"Fenrir... Blue... where's Fenrir? Where am I?" She wasn't sure where she was, but she wasn't about to stay here for long. She began to roll to the side to roll off the Pokemon, but the Pokemon crouched down and helped her to the grass. It was a large dog, probably related to Fenrir's Growlithe species. She didn't know much about them, though. "Ugh... my head... what happened..?" Sam looked over her shoulder. She could see the Union Cave a good distance away. "A rock hit me, didn't it... I saw Blue get out..." Sam watched Blue nod when her name was mentioned. "But.. Fenrir.. I didn't see him before I was hit by a rock. That dumb Onix... We need to go back."
The large Pokemon barked and wagged his tail, before lightly nipping at Sam's hat. It was the same thing little Fenrir and the other pups used to do... this couldn't be.. no...? "Fenrir? Did... you evolve, or something?" She didn't have much experience with evolution. Garrus was the only one so far, right? The canine creature nodded and pointed a paw to the battered bag. "Something in there evolved you? It must've scattered when I dropped my bag, and you must've stepped on it or something." She could ask questions later, for now, she needed food and the bump on her head looked at. Judging by how dirty she was, and by how messed up the back of her jacket was, Fenrir must've evolved and drug her out of the cave. Then the two Pokemon put her on Fenrir's back to walk towards Azalea. Sam thought of how funny it would have been to have two Pokemon escort their battered trainer to a Pokemon Center, versus the other way around. "Well, you guys saved me, so thank you..." She muttered, wiping a bit of blood off her forehead. "I owe you guys."
Azalea couldn't be too far ahead, given the path and how worn it was. She knew there wasn't much between the cave and the little town, so at least she was lucky in that aspect. She looked quite beat up, and by the way her head was ringing, she knew she'd be feeling this for the next few days. Thankfully, the Pokemon Center wasn't far ahead and the town was definitely in sight. Using the Arcanine as a crutch, Sam waddled her way into the Pokemon Center to get her Pokemon healed and maybe an aspirin for her headache, or whatever they could give her. They wrapped her wound and sent her on her way, so she'd stay the next few days in Azalea. Stupid Onix.
"Dumb Onix... I can't stand that Pokemon now. We're gonna go on an Onix hunt one of these days." She spat, leaning against Arcanine for support. Fenrir nuzzled her cheek with his nose and looked over at the Bug Gym. Technically, he could probably win her that badge and make her feel better, yes? Sam followed Fenrir's eyes and grinned from ear to ear. "Ya know... I have been itching for another gym battle..." She smirked, putting her hat back on straight. "Let's go meet the Bug Gym trainer." She murmured, walking in with Fenrir to the Gym.
The Gym answered with a cool blast of air, ruffling Sam's hair and messing up her hat. Fenrir sighed, thankful for the nice A/C compared to the weird weather outside. "Uh, hello? I'd like to challenge you for your Bug Badge..." Sam called out, letting out Joka to sit on her shoulder. As much as it'd be easy for Fenrir to toast this place, she decided against it for now. Joka could stretch her wings and get some stuff done in here too, right? Once Bugsy made his appearance, she'd introduce herself and go ahead and get the battle underway. It was obvious that Sam was still injured and was using Fenrir as a crutch and something to balance with.
(Going to start with Joka. Once the pleasantries are out of the way, Joka will begin the battle with an Acrobatics.

Sam had been through quite the ordeal and whilst she had been victorious in escaping with both her life and a sparkling new evolution in her team, it seemed like a small tingling of wanting revenge had settled in her painfully thumping head. Somewhere, that very same Onix felt an uncomfortable shiver, that was for sure. Still, she didn't let a little bump like this get in the way of her journey. A little rough around the edges, she braved the idea of her headache become worse and entered the Gym doors. Luckily, what was waiting inside was a place nothing short of pleasant. Maybe it was the cold air, but the inside smelt as fresh as any meadow and the sounds mimicked that of a dense forest. As, although the centre of the room was a definite battle ground, from the border outwards the ground was spread with a sheet of thick grass and lined with healthy trees. Within them, the sights and sounds of bug types surrounded her.
Stepping a little further inside, she would've been able to instantly spot a lone trainer. Their back towards her, the thin figure was kneeling down, feeding a Butterfree by hand, atleast until her call for a gym battle sent it fluttering away. Without so much as a greeting, the figure stood back up, brushing down their clothes before finally turning to face their challenger.
"Welcome!", their voice called out as their footsteps approached the battle grounds. The Gym Leader looked a little feminine but was clearly a young boy, with a bob of messy, lilac coloured hair. His clothes were in a similar style to that of a scout and in his hand was a well crafted bug net. Even though young, his soft voice and actions suggested that he was a thoughtful and caring soul, as even though it wasn't too hard to figure out, his usual opening speech was haltered by the sight of Sam. "Are you alright?..." Suddenly pausing, he didn't want to let his emotions get the better of him. He heard her quite clearly earlier asking for a challenge, there was no point finding out what had happened, only for him to likely put pity on the injured girl and allow her an easier chance at winning. Sighing ever so softly, he instead attempted to give his opening speech another go.
"Regardless, there is only one reason a trainer such as you would enter a Gym. Welcome to the Azalea Gym! My name is Bugsy and I am the Gym Leader here. As you likely expect, I specialise in Bug Type Pokemon." Pausing for a brief moment, he took a second to glance as the Pokemon inhabiting his Gym. "I may be young but my research and love of Bug type Pokemon gained me this role. I am even known for discovering the move Fury Cutter, you know?" Giving Sam the opportunity to respond, he noticed an unfamiliar Pokemon resting on her shoulder, who quickly fluttered forward as if wanting to be the first opponent. Smiling softly, Bugsy too selected a Pokeball and expanded it in his hands. "I suppose we should get started, hmm?" Throwing the ball in front of him, the flash of light dimmed, only to reveal a rather unexpected Metapod. It certainly wasn't something one would expect in a Gym challenge, especially considering Bugsy had been handling it's evolution of Butterfree moments earlier.
"Now, I know what you are thinking. But my Metapod has been trained to handle all kinds of attacks. I warn you know, not to take her lightly." Wearing a sickly sweet smile, Bugsy ordered his attack but whatever came out of his mouth meant very little. Swooping forward in a series of graceful spins, Joka had also been well trained and to her, placing a Metapod forward was almost an insult. Still, any bit of experience she could grab, she would accept. Crashing into the hardened body of the Metapod effortlessly, Joka completed her acrobatic routine, leaving her opponent enough energy to fall over before fainting on the spot.
Metapod: | Level 18 | Health: 0% ( 0/51 HP) Status: Fainted ...

Blinking his eyes in clear shock, Bugsy was incredibly surprised to see his partner fall so easily. Of course, he had never seen the Pokemon Sam was using before and quickly used that to his advantage to hide his embarrassment. "I-I see! So that is what kind of strength that Pokemon has! I-I have never seen it before, so I will add this to my research notes!" Withdrawing Metapod with a very slight slump to his posture, Bugsy hesitantly picked the second Pokeball from his belt before having second thoughts and picking the third. Standing a bit taller, he eyed Sam before holding his next choice forward. "Now then, let us get serious. Scyther, you are up!" Throwing the ball forward, this time the Pokemon which formed was more Gym-like. Eyes leering at Joka, this bug type was certainly not as docile as her trainer.

Joka didn't seem to have any quarrels with this particular battle, and opened her wings to take to the air. Bugsy seemed like a friendly soul. Her experience with Falkner had been quick, and he seemed to be an aloof character. Bugsy, however, seemed bright and attentive as they began their battle. He noticed her condition, the large Arcanine, and Joka (which, to be fair, was easy) but every little detail that Joka did, every little executed ability seemed to be calculated and mentally stored in Bugsy's brain. At least, that was the impression she got from the boy. After he finished speaking and introducing himself, Sam spoke up. "It's nice to meet you. My name is Sam! Samantha Maverick, actually. I'm not sure how formal we're supposed to be with these challenges." Sam shrugged. "I figure it's whatever goes, eh?" She shrugged.
He invented fury cutter?! "That's really impressive! You found the move Fury Cutter? That's amazing! We use that, as well as Cut, on our farm! You've really helped us speed up the process. Sometimes Cut just doesn't hack what we need to. Fury cutter, as it gains strength, helps us cut down those difficult trees and stumps. I know it's probably not the same application you're used to, but it's pretty impressive." Sam tipped her hat to him, and then stood up straight. "So thank you!" Fenrir brushed his face against her side, and then shuffled to the side just in case Sam needed something to lean against. It was probably a concussion, but she hadn't stayed long enough to let Nurse Joy give the final diagnosis.
"Yeah, i'd love to get this battle going!" She smiled, a newfound burst of energy taking her. Joka could feel it, and took strength from it as well. The Metapod in front of Joka was nothing to sniff at probably, but Joka wasn't going to take any chances by giving it a shot. Her Acrobatics was on point, and the bat soared through the air with perfect grace. Instead of returning to the field, however, she returned to Sam's shoulder. Joka figured she wouldn't participate in the next fight until Sam had seen the next Pokemon.
Bugsy seemed shocked at Joka's power, which made the bat gleam with pride. "Dang, I was kinda hoping you'd know what she was. We just sorta found her on the farm. I'm wondering if a trainer released her or gave her up and she took shelter in the barn window. Either way, i'm glad you like her. She's a little beastie for sure." Sam scratched under Joka's chin, which was tolerated for a few moments before Joka turned away and hopped onto Fenrir. Finicky little thing, she was. Bugsy prepared and sent out his next Pokemon, a menacing looking Scyther. Joka's eyes practically buldged out of her head, and she opened her wings as if to glide to the field. However, Sam shook her head and held out a hand to stop her. "No, I think we're going to try a different strategy. Hang tight, Joka."
Sam pulled a pokeball off of her belt and smiled. "C'mon out, Icarus!" The bright flash of light revealed the Emolga, who glided down to the center of the field to face the Scyther. The height and size difference was comical, but Icarus 'pushed up his sleeves' and opened his wings to flex his little arms. "Icarus, stop showboating, we're in a gym battle..." Sam tried to stifle a giggle, and pointed at Scyther. "I bet you're gonna have fun figuring out which one of you is gonna go first. Icarus, test your speed with a Volt Switch!" She knew who she wanted to come out next, and moved Garrus's pokeball to the side so it wouldn't click against any of the other ones when Garrus was sent into battle.
{Icarus, the Emolga, uses Volt Switch on Scyther. Volt Switch will pull out Garrus, the Vigoroth.}

With his first Pokemon brought down in a single hit by a Pokemon he had never seen before he could only imagine what Sam would do next. She had already been a pretty surprising opponent unlike most trainers who came into his gym but on top of that to hear that she was familiar with the move he discovered on her farm was a nice surprise as well. " It is nice to meet you Samantha. I am happy to hear your farm has found a good use for Fury Cutter outside of battles. Do not worry about formalities too much as some trainers come in here without even telling me their name the entire battle and I know how eager people can get when challenging a gym. As he listened to her explain how she encountered Joka he began to wonder just what kind of Bug Pokemon may still be undiscovered and lost his train of thought for a moment. As his Scyther realized he was lost in the wonders of undiscovered bugs she started to scrape her scythe like arms together causing a horrible noise that quickly got him back on track. " There I go again getting caught up in dreams of discovering new bug type Pokemon, now where were we oh yes, I do believe we were just about to start another round and by the looks of things you have opted to use your free switch in to use a different Pokemon. This one I have seen once or twice before but Emolga are still a rare sight in this gym. They are still a change of pace from Pidgey or Spearow especially with their typing which is not a common pairing." Scyther did not look very worried however Bugsy knew how dangerous it was to underestimate any opponent as it was a mistake that could prove dire. Instead he was rather curious in the small electric type. " I am far from an expert on Emolga but I do know they have a few useful moves at their disposal. I look forward to see what yours can do. Scyther let's use U Turn to be safe for now as it may know something you are weak too and I do not want to do anything too risky yet." He said as the two Pokemon made their moves. Upon hearing Sam's choice of move he was very thankful he had chosen the attack he did but he was not expecting Icarus to outpace his Scyther. As Icarus began to glow with electricity around his body he rammed Scyther before it could launch it's attack causing a huge amount of damage. The mantis was hiding a berry however and as the attack ended she ate the berry allowing her to restore some of her lost hp. With Icarus replaced with Garrus after the attack Scyther quickly extended her arms and flew towards him with all of her might. Unleashing a powerful slash across his chest before hurrying back to her Pokeball with Bugsy's Kakuna replacing her. " I was not expecting that at all and I must say it was a fantastic move to make. Forcing my Scyther to use it's Sitrus Berry so quickly is very impressive however you have not won just yet." He was unsure if Scyther could take another Volt Switch or not but for the time being she would be safe. Bugsy seemed pleased that Sam's farm was putting Fury Cutter to good use. It made her happy knowing that the Gym Leaders did more than just sit and wait for opponents. To the naked eye, it seemed as though all they did was wait around for something to do. But, in reality, Bugsy did research. Fieldwork. He even managed to make a new Pokemon move! Sam wasn't sure what Falkner did in his spare time, but whatever it was, she was sure it was somewhat useful. Maybe he had to clean the tower constantly from all the bird Pokemon... the thought made her shudder.
"Icarus, you got this!" Fear clutched at Sam's chest, however. Scyther was an incredibly fast species, and incredibly dangerous. Sam's father had toyed with the idea of purchasing a Scyther for the farm, but her mother had convinced him otherwise. She could only assume it was because of their angry, predatory nature, yes? They were incredibly quick, efficient killers. Icarus was quick, but would he be fast enough? Bugsy's choice of strategy was very similar to Sam's, and the thought that she was harboring a plan similar to a Gym Leader's made the girl feel a bit better about herself and her battling. Too bad Bugsy was too young, eh?
The fact she even had that thought surprised her. She was supposed to be a brooding, antisocial mess, right? That's why she needed to leave home and become social? Thoughts like that were... normal and for functioning young adults. She'd have to think about that a bit later. Icarus was already hurtling towards the Scyther, and in a stroke of luck- no, skill - Icarus damaged the Scyther first. Bugsy seemed equally surprised, but didn't seem too bothered as his Scyther crunched on a berry. Garrus was brought back whereas Icarus retreated back into his ball, and the Vigoroth held the brunt of the attack from Scyther. Equally pleased with her Pokemon for withstanding the attack, Sam watched Scyther retreat. A Kakuna took it's place, but Sam knew not to underestimate the defensive power of Bugsy's accessory Pokemon.
"Berries! I should've thought of that. That would've probably helped. You okay Garrus?" Sam asked, facepalming at herself. How could she have forgotten hold items for her Pokemon? Garrus didn't seem to mind, however, as he found undergrowth to plow through, vines to swing on, and various things to climb. "Garrus, just remember, we're in super focus battle mode." The Vigoroth looked over his shoulder and smiled cheekily, before nodding and returning to his escapades. Well, it's not like Kakuna was, uh, going anywhere? "I see we have similar strategies with your Scyther and my Emolga." Sam hinted, and looked at Garrus. "Give Kakuna your best scratch, Garrus!"

Bugsy had not expected Samantha to react so well to her Pokemon taking such a big hit from his Scyther as usually other trains would be filled with terror as soon as they witnessed the results of it's U-Turn. The fact that her Vigoroth not only took the hit but was still in good shape left him a bit uneasy as it was rare when he encountered such a situation. He was not a gym leader without reason however and that meant he had to try and come up with a way to still win this battle even if his Scyther's primary surprise had not knocked out Garrus. Kakuna lacked most of the strength and speed Scyther had but it did have a very hard shell which if all else failed he could always rely on to buy himself time to think. " I must congratulate you on a fantastic effort so far. Not many can force me to play my trump card so early in a battle as they do not come prepared but you have presented quite a nice challenge. Using a similar strategy to mine was completely unexpected and I am glad to see great minds think alike. As a gym leader I must try anything I can to win this battle but I cannot lie you have put me in a position I am very rarely exposed to but I still have two of my Pokemon left so let's just see how the rest of this battle plays out." As he considered his remaining choices carefully there was a few ideas that popped into his head. He could always increase his Kakuna's defense but Samantha was probably expecting that so he had a different plan in mind. " Though she may not look as intimidating as Scyther my Kakuna is rather special in her ability to fight back offensively. I think now is a good time to show you a nice example of her abilities."As he was about to issue and attack order however it turned out that his ramblings had caused him to miss out on Samantha's own orders and when Garrus reached out and delivered a powerful Scratch attack he realized his mistake very quickly. " That is what I get for rambling on I guess. I should have issued an order while I had the chance. No matter as Kakuna still remains standing and as such it is now her turn to attack. Use Bug Bite on that Vigoroth and try to even this battle out." With her awkward shape Kakuna had a hard time making her way towards the energetic normal type however as Garrus did not think she had teeth yet alone could not cause him any hard he stood by and watched her try to reach him only to find out just how wrong he was. Kakuna opened part of her shell exposing a small mouth which closed on Garrus's hand as he laughed at the bug which turned into a violent outburst as the pain from the bite set in. It was not a mistake he wanted to make again as the bite was pretty painful even if he could easily remain standing from the attack. Bugsy was amused to see her deliver a successful strike even with her limited mobility. " Great Job Kakuna. Your bite may not be the most powerful but it still is pretty painful." Gym BattleBugsy's Kakuna|level 18| HP: 32/49 (65%)Status: Normal Used Bug BiteWe bugs are fully of nasty surprises! While the battle progressed, Sam walked back up to Fenrir. She pressed her face into the creature's fur and Fenrir let out a happy grunt and wagged his huge tail a few shakes. Garrus was continuing to run around the gym, jumping on everything he could and bouncing around with incredible energy that even Sam was jealous of. How did he move that much? No wonder the creature ate like a horse... "Thanks!" Sam smiled, acknowledging Bugsy's compliment to her as well. The battle styles were similar, so that meant that Sam was doing something right, right? Hopefully.
Garrus simmered down for the long haul, preparing another scratch on the bug type. As he raked his claws across the shelled Pokemon, however, it seemed as though Kakuna missed an opportunity with Garrus so near. However, Bugsy proved that his Pokemon was resourceful, and Sam watched as the Kakuna approached the curious Garrus. The Vigoroth watched the Kakuna approach, almost skeptical, before yelping out in extreme pain at the concentrated bite. Garrus scurried back behind his trainer, beating on the ground before holding onto one of Sam's legs in shock. The bite look like it smarted. "Garrus, that's what you get for showboating earlier and not taking your opponent seriously..." She murmured, giving the Vigoroth a pat on the head. "You're doing fine though. I know you can beat Kakuna, I believe it."
Vigoroth jumped back into the fray, eyeing the Kakuna warily. Sam knew Garrus wouldn't be so keen to jump in and pick on the bug now, but at least Garrus was learning a bit of humility. Even now, he had ceased running around like a crazy Pokemon and was acting as though this were a serious battle. Sam was rather impressed, honestly. "Yeah, it may not be super potent, but it definitely gave Garrus something to remember Kakuna by..." Sam murmured, fixing her hat. "I didn't know Kakuna had mouths. I guess... I guess that's pretty ignorant, sorry." Even now she was learning something every day, but even more so in this gym battle. Garrus's impish nature seemed to shine through this battle, but at least now he seemed to be sobering up. "Garrus, this is just a minor bump in the road. You've got this! Give 'em another scratch!" She urged, watching the creature ruffle it's fur and 'push up sleeves' as it glared over at Kakuna. Garrus wouldn't make the same silly mistake twice.

Bugsy smiled, happy that he was teaching Sam while the battle was going on. "It's alright, not many people know that cocoon Pokemon have mouths too. I think it's great that you are learning something new while battling, or revisiting stuff that you may already know but didn't think about at the moment. This is one reason why I love being a Gym Leader, so I can learn more about other Pokemon, but of course, my favorite subject will always be bug type Pokemon." He grinned as he explained, adding passion and joy into his response. After he had finished talking, he just noticed the energetic Garrus had already gone up to the Kakuna and did another Scratch attack. He really needed to talk after the two Pokemon finish their turns. "I think you are doing great so far, Sam. Maybe I can help with making my Kakuna more memorable to you and your Pokemon. Most people have a strong memory of me and my Scyther, but not so much with my Kakuna and Metapod. Kakuna, use Iron Defense!"After he had said that, the bug type's glossy body shimmered, as if it was suddenly reflecting more light per cell. Then, the light died down, and Bugsy began speaking in his teaching tone again, "Iron Defense allows Kakuna's cocoon to handle rough surroundings, like your Virogoth's sharp claws. It's like an extra coat on a super cold day."

Sam nodded, soaking up as much information as she could. Garrus had already executed his scratch, which seemed to do a good number on the Kakuna. It also appeared that Garrus was getting frustrated with himself, but Sam would have to touch on that after the battle. The creature was attempting to use it to his advantage by honing it in on his attacks, but Kakuna was a sturdy Pokemon with a high defense. He would need more than that to take it down as quickly as Garrus wanted to. "Garrus, you're doing fine! Good hit!" She cheered her Pokemon on, waiting for Bugsy's next move. Perhaps some more offense?
Nope! Instead, he executed an attack of a defensive nature. The outer shell of Kakuna glew with the defensive power of an 'extra coat' and Garrus slammed his arms down on the ground with annoyance. It just meant more defense he'd have to scratch through, dragging the battle out even longer. Annoyed, Garrus began to run around on a rampage once more. Sam sighed and rubbed her temple. "Yeah, extra defense... Garrus doesn't seem to happy about that. I'll just have to prove to him that he has the strength to take down your Kakuna, then he'll feel better." Sam wanted to use this to give the Pokemon more confidence. It might take a while, but eventually Garrus would pull through.
"Garrus! Come here!" Although the Vigoroth wanted to rampage, he eventually wandered over to Sam to resume the battle. "Garrus, I know you're frustrated. But you're doing great! Your evolution from a Slakoth has been amazing, and you've been performing so well. Don't let this Pokemon stump you! You're just gonna have to sharpen those claws and push through. Not all of our battles will be easy, but I know you can do it. We've been together since you hatched. I'm not about to let you think you're not destined to be an amazing Pokemon, because you already are." Sam bent down and kissed the top of Garrus's head before giving the Vigoroth a hug. "Now go out there and Scratch like you've never scratched before!"
Garrus's temper seemed to melt away, and the Vigoroth turned to look over his shoulder at the Kakuna with a new fire in his chest. Charging forward, it seemed as though the battle was going to progress once more. Sam turned back to Bugsy, scratching the back of her neck sheepishly. "Sorry, I think he just needed a pep talk."

The battle was certainly heating up since Garrus had arrived on the scene. Bugsy's previously use of Iron Defense didn't sit too well with the Vigoroth and soon enough, he was rampaging around his area of the battle grounds. A bit shocked, Bugsy reared his head back slightly and blinked in surprised, whilst his Kakuna merely remained still on the spot. Her black eyes staring on at Garrus, she was certainly happy to have a bit more defense on her side. He was simply terrifying! "Hmm! Your Pokemon certainly is a power house but I wonder if his claws will be able to dent Kakuna's new shell? W-well, not that I would like to irritate him any further..." Mumbling off as if in his own little world, Bugsy looked off to the side whilst rubbing the back of his head nervously. As a Gym Leader, he needed to stand his ground but having an enraged opponent wasn't exactly fun.
Luckily for Bugsy, he didn't have to be on tenterhooks for too much longer. Instead, he listened in wonderment as Sam managed to reign in Garrus with her words. It was certainly inspiring to watch and overhear as within moments, she had calmed the creature down. Garrus needed a bit of a polish, in terms of keeping his anger under wraps but the two certainly shared a unique bond and now, even Bugsy wasn't so nervous. A big smile stretched across his face, the boy rested a hand on his waist and nodded with glee. "Yes! It has been such a long time since I had an opponent like you! I can really tell that you care and support your Pokemon!" Getting back into the moment, he grinned with more determination as their pep talk was over, "Heheh, no problem! Let's carry on with where we left off!" Reacting to his words, the Kakuna tilted her body forward, as if mimicking a nod.
"Use Poison Sting, Kakuna! Fend him off!" Already Garrus had lunged forward, with his long arms behind him, whilst all the Kakuna did was sit and wait. Boasting incredible speed and agile movements, the Vigoroth swung his mighty arm forward, his claws coming into contact with the body of Kakuna and sending her body rolling off to one side. Only, with the help of her previous attack, she managed to hang onto consciousness. Barely. "Good job, Kakuna. That Iron Defense of yours really can get us out of a tight spot." Propping herself back up, the cocoon focused on Garrus and shot a number of poisonous, thin needles. Sticking through his fur, luckily, he had avoiding the chance of any poison taking effect this time.

The pep talk had worked for now, but Sam really had to think of a way to make Garrus calm down and use his anger in his battling, instead of just flying off the handle. Thankfully Bugsy didn't seem to mind as Sam handled the situation, and even seemed a bit impressed. She took it as a compliment to the bond she had with Garrus and ran with it. "Don't let it poison you!" The poison stings were coming, and Sam knew there was no way that Garrus would be dodging it. He took the hit like a champ, but not without taking a bit of damage. She watched the body posture and crossed her fingers none of the poison had entered his bloodstream, and after a few moments she released the breath she'd been holding in a huge sigh of relief.
"Great job, Garrus! I knew you could do it. That Kakuna's looking pretty tired, but don't let down your guard! Go in for another Scratch!" The last thing she wanted was for her Pokemon to get cocky. It had taken them this long to tucker out the Kakuna, so it was definitely a worthy opponent for Garrus. He just had to realize that and make sure not to let it get to his head. Sam couldn't shake the awe she had for that Kakuna's defense. Sure, it was probably about to fall, but damn did it put up a great fight. "The defense on that Kakuna is absolutely ridiculous. She's a tank!" Sam called out to Bugsy before sighing and leaning onto Fenrir. "Garrus still has a lot of work to do, but for the most part, I think he's turning into a great battler and an even greater Pokemon." Fenrir snuffed in agreement before bristling his fur. The large Arcanine knew what was coming next, and it made him slightly nervous. As a fellow predator, he knew the power that Scyther had. Sure, Icarus had done a number on it, but still. When not able to use tricks like that, it was a head on head fight.
"I'm excited to see your Scyther again, i'm pretty sure it's not gonna be as easy as a Volt Switch to take her down." Sam commented, watching her Vigoroth prepare for the next round. "I've already learned so much from this battle and it isn't even over, it's crazy."

Considering his options carefully Bugsy knew his luck was running out. His Kakuna had stalled Samantha for an incredible amount of time however her Vigoroth just had too much physical strength for her to contend with much longer and by switching out his Pokemon Bugsy would only cause his Scyther to take unnecessary damage after she had already been forced into using her Sitrus Berry. Things did not look very good for him at all as he considered whether he should make the switch despite the huge risk as he had nothing to heal Scyther if he made a bad call. Ultimately as he fought with himself to make the decision Garrus made it for him. The normal type had put up with the cocoon for much to long as it was and he was not going to let Bugsy stall him any longer. As he extended his nails he scratched the Kakuna across the center of it's body. Even it's steel hard shell the nails managed to break through into the soft tissue beneath. Screeching out in agony Kakuna fell over on her side knocked out by the attack. As Bugsy recalled he he now had no choice but to rely on Scyther from here on out to make his comeback. He grabbed the Pokeball containing the mantis and tossed it towards the middle of the battlefield as he began to speak. " Kakuna did quite well there but in the end her tank like body was still not enough to overcome brute force. She managed to at least buy me some time to think about my options and I have a few ideas left. I may be down to my last Pokemon but that still means you are not quite done yet." Secretly worried that even his Scyther would be no match if she took another Volt Switch he took a deep breath before speaking again. " I have learned quite a bit from this battle as well. Scyther is my best but as of now even she has not managed to do very much to your team but I am hopeful we can still turn this battle around." Pokemon Gym Battle

"You did it, Garrus!" Sam cheered, running forward with a newfound surge of strength. The Vigoroth turned to face his trainer before bounding forward goofily to tackle his trainer into a hug. Fenrir's paw was there to make sure Sam didn't bump her head again, and Garrus nuzzled his face into Sam's cheek. "Garrus, Garrus, I can't breathe, you gotta get off me!" Sam snickered, rolling the Vigoroth off of her so she could stand once more. She brushed off the white fur that had clung to her clothes and gave Garrus a pat on the head before returning him. "That's the Vigoroth I was looking for! Great job, bud. You deserve a good rest." She patted the Pokeball after clicking it onto her belt. Her attention was then turned back to Bugsy.
"Your Kakuna was amazing! I can't wait to see Scyther in action again, though." Sam admitted, picking up a Pokeball. She knew who was in it and what the plan of action was. "I hope you're ready for Icarus again! Come on out, bud." She tossed the ball into the air, releasing the Emolga once more. Icarus glided down to Sam's head and flexed his little arms before pointing at Scyther. It made Sam snicker. But, back to the battle at hand. "All of your bugs put up a fantastic fight, and it's been an honor to fight you. I didn't expect it to be so difficult to pierce your defenses." Sam patted Fenrir. Of course she could have used him to destroy Bugsy, but she didn't want to do that. Taking advantage of other type advantages would be what made her into a good trainer. "Icarus, you know what to do! Volt Switch out with Blue!"
Bugsy probably hadn't seen Blue either, which would be a good treat for him. She didn't expect Icarus to destroy Scyther in one hit, giving Blue a chance to get some action before this was all over. But, she could be underestimating Icarus. It all depended on how hard the little creature could hit. "Thank you for teaching me." Sam dipped her head.
//Emolga/Icarus used Volt Switch to switch out with Tyrunt/Blue
(Okay, so the only Pokemon that have faced Scyther so far are Emolga (Level 22) and Vigoroth (Level 24), as seen above. Just trying to help out future mods. Sorry it got weird. If Emolga doesn't one shot Scyther with the remaining HP, then Emolga will only gain 2 levels (lucky egg) and Blue will finish it up. Emolga: 2 levels (lucky egg) Vigoroth: 1 level, Blue: 2 levels if she has to clean up (which is fine, because level 24 woot))

As Sam and Garrus hugged one another tightly after their victory against Bugsy's Kakuna, the young boy couldn't help but take a casual stance, with his arms folded and eyebrows raised. Smiling, one of the things he enjoyed most about being a Gym Leader, was the interaction between different people and Pokemon. Some were strict, some were overly protective and some were just wild and crazy! But a majority of the time, one outcome was very similar and that was the smile of success. Still, this didn't mean that Bugsy was going to go easy on Sam last minute. He had a reputation to keep up and no time for making special exceptions or anything of the sort. If Sam were to win, it would be down to her skill as a trainer. Receiving some compliments back from his opponent, the young boy bowed his head respectively, "Thank you, ever so much. I adore bug type Pokemon and always will do. No matter what, I will show off just how strong they can be!" But cocoons weren't his only team members as the final segment of the battle began.
Throwing his Scyther's ball forward, the scythe armed mantis emerged once more, her thinned eyes glaring across at her opponent. She felt foolish taking so much damage from that flying rodent earlier and unfortunately, it seemed humiliation would follow. Bugsy's worries coming to light, Sam once again chose her Emolga to take the lead and this immediately gained the attention of Scyther. Practically hissing, Bugsy used his hands to gesture her to calm down, "It's okay, Scyther. Why dont we use a Quick Attack?" Knowing what was coming, their only option was to strike first and hope to knock Icarus out in a single blow. But that was highly unlikely. The Emolga had a bit more defense than the opponent anticipated and when struck with the blade of Scyther, managed to acrobatically flip out of harms way. Grazed but not injured, Icarus showed them how it was done and with an electrical dash, zapped the Scyther on the spot.
Scyther: | Level 21 | Health: 0% ( 0/66 HP) Status: Normal Scyther fainted!
VS
Blue: | Level 22 | Health: 100% (64/64 HP) Status: Normal Icarus used Volt Switch and sent Blue in!
Congratulations!Scyther has been defeated!Garrus gained 1 level for participating and grew to Level 25! (0/1951) +1 Happiness Icarus gained 2 levels for participating (due to Lucky Egg) and grew to Level 24! +1 Happiness Blue gained 2 levels and grew to Level 24! +1 Happiness
Fried and losing what remaining health she had left, the Scyther dramatically fell backward against the ground, twitching every now and again with static. The last motion on the battlefield, was Blue appearing and dropping her jaw in shock, at the sight of the battle already being over! Atleast she gained some sort of experience from it. A slow clap echoing around the gym, Bugsy stepped forward, his usual child like grin spread across his face. "Bravo! I wondered if Scyther would survive another Volt Switch like that but clearly luck was in your favour!" Stepping forward to congratulate her closer, Bugsy couldn't help but be temporarily distracted by the sight of Blue. "What an unusual looking Pokemon! I don't think my cocoon's would've handle that large jaw." Exclaiming his surprised, he turned back to Sam and presented her with a number of items. "You have officially bested me, the Gym Leader of Azalea! I have a few things to give you, so here." Firstly, he handed her a badge, "This is the Azalea Gym badge. You earned it!" He then handed her some prize money, followed by a TM. "This is my special TM, U-Turn. I would explain how it works but you saw it in action and it looks as if you have an electrical variant of it, yourself!" Hinting at Volt Switch, he laughed but then bowed his head back to Sam. "You also taught me a great deal. Thank you for the incredible battle and take care on your journey."
Congratulations! You have defeated Gym Leader Bugsy! For your victory, you have been awarded with the Hive Badge! You may now use the move Cut outside of battle. Sam was presented with TM89 U-Turn!Earned £1,800 as prize money! (Updated)

The last opponent. Sam's hands tingled as the Sycther was released into the field, ajacent to her own Emolga. This was really it! She felt the same thrill and exhilaration when facing Falkner, but even now it still seemed as fresh as it had been in Violet. Her Pokemon were more than capable, so it definitely wasn't nerves. The adrenaline pumping through her body allowed her to ignore her bump and focus more on the battle.
Icarus, covering himself with electricity, began his attack towards Scyther. The powerful bug, being faster, attempted to execute a Quick Attack to get the first hit in. Icarus was grazed, but it was nothing the small Pokemon couldn't handle. Instead of being harmed to the point of no return, Icarus continued forward, zapping Scyther with little to no effort. In the next few seconds things seemed to slow down for Sam. Icarus was falling backwards to get away from any retaliation from Scyther. Sam's palms were sweaty. Scyther was falling backwards, and as soon as the bug hit her back to the floor, time sped up to normal and Icarus was already resting on Sam's head. "Wait... we won!" She whispered. Icarus shickered and patted her cheek. Maybe her head was still acting up, but to be fair, it wouldn't get better with Icarus sitting on top of it.
Bugsy returned Scyther and began to go through his whole spill about her winning, and her hands began to tingle again. The adrenaline was so powerful. This must be what the Pokemon felt when they were winning in a battle, right? "Thank you so much, Bugsy! You taught me a lot as well. It was nice to see Fury Cutter in action, and even better to see a strategy similar to mine being used by a Gym Leader. I'll take what I learned here and apply it. I really appreciate it." Sam took the gifts, while bowing her head overgraciously multiple times, before making her exit with her Pokemon. She wanted to press on to Ilex, but as soon as she got to a Pokemon Center, there was a package addressed to her. While healing her Pokemon, Nurse Joy handed it to her. She'd have to figure out what it was tomorrow. Ilex would wait. There was a bed and she was going to pass out in it for a while. Besides, Ilex needed you at the top of your game. She'd have to wait a day or so for that. The win continued to reside with her until she fell asleep with Fenrir curled around her. So far, leaving home and training Pokemon had been the best experience as well as the best idea she'd ever had.
