Returning to Newbark Town for a trip down memory lane, Catherine had decided to give both herself and her team a break, by travelling back to the place where her journey had started. Having come a long way since being the energetic bundle of joy she had been back in Unova, Catherine could now state proudly that she had begun her road to maturity, with a rag tag bunch of Pokemon by her side to accompany her. It still didn't stop her excitement, however, as she made sure to pay a visit to the town's Professor in order to show him the current state of her Pokedex. The entries of both encountered and captured Pokemon beginning to pile up, she decided to spend the night in the small place before heading back over to Goldenrod. After all, a Gym match was waiting with her name on it but she still had a long way to go, training wise, before any of her Pokemon were ready.
Checking over her Pokeballs and items, Catherine stood in the centre of Newbark, preparing for her departure. "Looks like we have everything. Time to head on back, Atlas!" Standing next to her was her main partner, Atlas the Simisage, the grass pompadour creature nodding in agreement to her words. As they began to head towards Route 29 to cross the Johto region once more, Catherine couldn't help but notice a sickly figure at the exit, which lead out of town. The inner carer in her kicking in, the girl suddenly picked up the pace, leaving Atlas looking around in a confused manner before realising who and where she was heading towards. "Excuse me!" Her high pitched voice called, trying to grasp the boys attention. "You look pale, are you alright?... Oh! My name is Catherine, by the way. I want to be a Pokemon Nurse someday!" It was then that she realised the boy had two, small bug Pokemon with him, both being very unusual species.
Very concerned by the tone of his skin, Catherine found herself falling quiet at the boy's heart wrenching story. Learning that he was in fact terminally ill, Catherine struggled to swallow the lump in her thrown. From a distance it was easy to see that something was wrong but from his coarse voice and spluttering coughs, it was questionable just how long he had left. Hearing his request, it didn't take the girl long at all to respond, as she reached forward and gently grabbed onto one of his hands. "Kent! You are so brave! Of course I will help you!" Holding a hand over her chest, Catherine's eyes were almost set alight with a passion to help this boy after hearing of his struggles. No matter what he was plagued with, he still had a dream. "My own dream is to help both people and Pokemon! I'll collect all the different Vivillon for you! Just make sure you get plenty of rest and keep on fighting!" Tilting her head whilst wearing a large grin, she looked down to the Scatterbug that Kent presented to her. "Hello, little Scatterbug! Let's make Kent proud, okay? I think I'll call you Kent... Ken... Ken--Kendra! After your trainer!"
