OOC: Using my TM on Ollin (Replacing Charm with Thunderbolt). Thank you!
Colours: CD73D5 ACD2E7 D9D562 C6AF95
If you see me comin' down the street... ... You know it's time to go.
For the first time in weeks, Terri felt great. She'd had terrible luck with the weather since arriving in Johto but at last, she finally felt prepared. When she initially entered the Pokémon Center, her clothes — which seemed completely inappropriate for the weather outside — were completely soaked through. As a result, the nurse felt sorry for her and went out of her way to offer assistance. The blue-haired girl finally seemed to be catching a break.
Terri hummed to herself as she neatly packed away her belongings. It was nice to finally feel clean again. As she waited at the counter for Nurse Joy to retrieve her Pokémon, an advert on the TV overhead caught her attention. Falkner, the city's gym leader, was shown in a number of battle scenes before giving an obviously rehearsed speech at the end. "All set, Terri?" Nurse Joy smiled. "Best I've ever felt," Terri replied, glancing back over at the television before taking the Poké Balls back from her. "We're gonna take on the gym now. I'm feelin' lucky."
After double-checking that she had everything, she waved goodbye to Joy and set off to find the gym. Crying children seemed to flood into the Pokémon Center during her stay. She'd overheard a lot of talk about a Pidgeotto. There was no doubt that the battle was going to challenging but Terri was sure she knew a bit more about Pokémon than these little kids.
She gripped a Poké Ball tightly in her hand and gently pressed the button. "Right kiddo, we're hittin' the gym now." Her Snubbull materialised by her side. The fairy-type nodded swiftly. She seemed pretty confident so he wasn't going to ask any questions. "So this Falkner dude uses flying-type Pokémon, right? Well, look what I got my hands on!" she grinned, waving a TM in front of the fairy-type's face. "We're gonna teach you to use Thunderbolt."
After using the TM, Terri and Ollin continued on their way. Hail continued to fall which was a little irritating but Terri kept herself sheltered whenever possible. It wasn't long before a massive building caught her eye. "You think that's the gym?" she asked her Snubbull, who shrugged in response. It seemed fairly quiet. Gently pushing the door, she peered inside. A huge battlefield confirmed that it was indeed the Violet City Gym. "I'm here to challenge the gym leader," her voiced echoed loudly. The adrenaline began to kick in. She wasn't leaving this gym without a badge.

To Falkner, the appearance of another challenger to his gym highly likely meant one certain outcome. Defeat. " Tch... I'm getting fed up with this. I wish dad hadn't thrown all this on me. I want to be doing what so many other teenagers my age are doing. Flying out there free. Living my adolescent years. Socialising with friends, having fun... Chatting up girls. Oh the girls... How come I can't catch a break?!" He blew hair out of his mouth so that his bang would flop out of his eye. Of late, it appeared that all the female challengers he had come across had dried up. Drooping on his clenched fist, he let out a depressive sigh. " Instead i'm cooped up in this gym like some bird in a cage. How ironic." Things were about to change however. Hearing a new trainer cry out for the gym challenge, Falkner lazily got to his feet and had one last look at the vastness of Violet City before him. His gym wasn't like many other gyms. Most were restricted to ground height. Instead, the Flying type gym spanned many stories to such a great height. By doing so, it made a statement about the way he battled and his favoured typing. Additionally, by having it up so high, those who weren't graced with the ability to fly would unfortunately slip up and fall from such a great height. It also allowed Falkner to feel at one with his beloved bird Pokemon. He may have been a mere human without wings but the least he could do is train at such a high height to bond with his Pokemon. As he stepped closer and closer to the main battlefield, he couldn't help but ruffle up his air to invigorate some life into it as he mulled over what would be the next challenge. " What are the odds this is going to be some dull, annoying guy? Psch." Shaking his head, he drew nearer, closing his eyes as he went over the well rehearsed lines. " Apologies! I was in the middle of thinking about something. I find staring off at the top of this grand gym tower helps me better reflect. I feel more in tune with my very own Bird Pokemon then." In reality, he wasn't really sorry but it was a simple device for him to determine what the trainer was like. Opening his eyes and beginning to run his eyes over their appearance and figure, he seemed pleasantly surprised by having a female as his opponent and it showed on his face as he stared at Terri with some surprise. This had been the first female he had seen in months! It certainly made a big change from all the electric type using males running around. At least if she sent forth a shocking creature forward he could at least forgive her. Using his spare hand to fluff his fringe, the gym leader smiled coolly and introduced himself. " I'm Falkner, the Violet City Pokémon Gym Leader! You seem like a capable trainer, very well. If it is a challenge you are looking for, I am obliged to battle you." Calmly placing forward his arm that was supporting his bird Pokemon, he whispered something into its ear and watched as it went flying off in front of him a his chosen combatant. " I'll show you the real power of the magnificent bird Pokémon! Pidgey, I choose you!" With the official gym formalities out of the way, Falkner became a lot less formal and inquisitively called out to the unknown girl. " What might your name be? I always like to be able to put a name to face." He was going to converse with her a bit further but at that very instant, his Pidgey let out a loud, shrill cry which echoed throughout the spacious gym. Flinching an eye slightly, Falkner seemed to have his feathers ruffled. " Ack... Your move it seems, challenger." Shown up by his own Pokemon, Falkner really couldn't catch a break. As happy as he was to see a female combatant, he could tell she was fierce. The way she carried herself was all testament to this. However what Falkner wasn't aware about was the fact Ollin was now packing 10,000 volts of electricity in its arsenal. You have challenged Gym Leader Falkner to a battle! He sends out Pidgey (Level 10) to fight! Please select a Pokemon for battle.

The high ceilings were quite amazing. The purpose of the building had obviously been well thought out before it was built. Terri readied herself as a voice responded. The teenage boy had blue hair of medium-length and a lighter shade of blue than Terri's. He began to babble on with a speech that Terri could only assume he spewed out to every new challenger. Still, it was exciting to finally be here.
"Call me Terri," the girl smirked, relaxing her stance. "That Pidgey of yours isn't wastin' any time with introductions so let's get goin'." The trainer took a deep breathe and reassured herself her plan would work. She smiled down at her partner Pokémon who was visibly a bit more nervous than her. "We got this kiddo, just stick to the plan." As much as Edwina would probably enjoy the battlefield, the starling wasn't even getting a second of consideration with this fight.
There was a short silence that went on for just a little too long as something occurred to Terri. She hadn't researched any of the rules before challenging the gym. Hopefully she wouldn't do anything that could disqualify her. It was too late now anyway and there was no hope of her lettiing Falkner know she wasn't sure. "Knock 'em dead with a Thunderbolt," she ordered, energetically pointing at the tiny bird. The Snubbull's ears perked up and he dashed a few steps forward onto the battlefield.

“Well then.” Falkner said, surprised by how abrasive this trainer was. She certainly had a bold personality, something that many new trainers had. He didn’t particularly enjoy newbies who had a smart mouth, but perhaps she was a great trainer, Falkner wasn’t one to judge a book by its cover. “Let’s see what you can do then.” Falkner was typically known for his cool outer exterior and his seemingly emotionless facial expressions, which seemed to intimidate most trainers except for this one in particular. Falkner didn’t quite mind the girl’s acidic words, as he was only here to mentor her and make sure she was strong enough to continue on the path to becoming a champion.
“Snubbull? That’s quite a rare Pokemon.” Falkner said, a little surprised that a novice trainer had such an elusive Pokemon in the Johto region. Falkner knew that Snubbull had a multitude of moves that it could use, so this battle would certainly be a tough one for him and his team. Although Snubbull was certainly a higher level than Pidgey, the bird’s speed still outweighed the doggo’s. “Use gust!” Out came a burst of wind, although it didn’t really do too much damage on the fairy. Snubbull’s attack however, did quite the number on Pidgey. The lightning flashed and in what seemed like seconds Pidgey was already passed out on the ground. “Good one.” Falkner said, impressed with Snubbull’s powerful lightning attack. Battle

Terri's face lit up as her Snubbull knocked its opponent out with a single move. Up until now, her Pokémon had only really used physical attacks. Thunderbolt was such more appealing visually and in this case, it seemed much more effective too. "Right, that's one down Ollin! Get ready to go again." The fairy-type nodded and waited for its next opponent. Ollin felt the same rush as Terri with this new power. Who would have thought their first gym battle start off so smoothly?
Falkner threw a Poké Ball and released an evolved version of his previous Pokémon. The flying-type looked a lot more experienced and presumably wouldn't fall as easily. "Watch out for this one kiddo," Terri warned, her tone a bit more serious. "But we still got this." "Snubb," Ollin agreed.
"A bit more impressive but still not enough to stop us," the girl commented, studying Falkner's Pokémon. She was confident that Ollin was more powerful but his speed was probably no match for these birds. She just hoped he could endure the damage. If not, she could always grab something for her medicine pocket. Terri snapped out of her daydream and tried to focus on the current situation. Ollin was still pretty healthy. "Well let's get this show goin'! Ollin, use Thunderbolt!"

Falkner was certainly shocked by the fact that this Snubbull had such a powerful energy. The gym leader admired Terri’s skills as a trainer to think of such an interesting move to pair with one of the rarest Pokemon native to Johto! “Your Pokemon is certainly powerful. But my Pidgeotto will certainly test his limits.” The large bird had a stern look upon its face, much like Falkner’s calm and calculative nature.
The room was very tense as the battle entered into the 2nd half, Terri was certainly gaining ground on Falkner at a rapid pace. Ollin had the same grumpy expression on his face that he always had. Perhaps his face was more serious due to the increasing tensions of battle; he was facing a giant bird after all. Piedgeotto whirled up a gust of wind and fired it at Ollin, but it was certainly not as effective as Falkner hoped it would be. Of course the fairy Pokemon ushered another loud thunderous attack, shocking Pidgeotto to the core. Alas, the bird still had some fight in him. Battle

If you see me comin' down the street... ... You know it's time to go.
A large smirk reappeared on Terri's face as she watched the next round of attacks. Ollin's Thunderbolt still proved to be effective, even if it didn't knock out the foe on the first hit this time. The bulldog-like Pokémon took the blow from Pidgeotto's Gust pretty well too. Terri was finally convinced. Her Zephyr Badge was only moments away.
Falkner's comment about testing Ollin's limits only amused the teenager further. She was letting it all go to her head. "Be my guest, buddy. But you ain't got much time left for testin' anyone," she cackled, flicking a strand of hair from her face. Her Snubbull rolled its eyes. Celebrations should be left until after the battle was over. Luckily, he was level-headed enough to keep on top of the fight.
"You know what to do kiddo -- once more!" Ollin could only assume that she was saying to use another Thunderbolt. He'd guessed that would be her choice anyway. The fairy-type intensely locked eyes with the bird Pokémon. Terri's arrogance would probably make it resent them more. Ollin needed to end this fast. Getting on the wrong side of a Gym Leader's Pokémon was not a wise decision. They'd been through a lot together but as far as training went, they had a lot to learn.

"I wouldn't count as defeated so quickly," Falkner returned, a grin forming on his face. It was that kind of look of someone about to lay down a trump card. "Pidgeotto, time to use our special move. Go! Mud-slap!" The fearsome bird cawed majestically, diving down toward the floor to snatch up some mud left lying around. The bird swooped by, teasing Ollin on the first pass and rounding about. But the snubbull wasn't about to just sit around. He began charging up another electric strike as Falkner's Pidgeotto circled around. In a sharp turn the expert aerial acrobat broke from its planned flight path and suddenly the fairy type found itself with a mud cake on his face. Startled, he attempted to just fire his thunderbolt immediately and hope the close proximity worked against Pidgeotto. But luck it seemed had turned to Falkner's side on this round and the bolt arced into the air harmlessly. "You're not the first, nor will you be the last, trainer to come in here thinking they've got an easy win just because they have an electric attack. We've had to develop new techniques to deal with such an obvious weakness," Falkner began, taking a breath. Even with Ollin's reduced accuracy thanks to the mud in his eyes there was still a high risk of his prized bird being electrocuted. "Though I commend you for not just grabbing the first mareep nearby. Your Snubbull is a pleasant surprise of an opponent."Gym Battle Pidgeotto | Level 15 | Keen Eye HP: 42% (20/48) Status: Normal Used Mud-slap! VS.

Falkner's strategy shut Terri up for a few seconds. The girl's jaw dropped as the flying-type tainted her Snubbull's vision even more than usual. Ollin was smart but his poor sight made him quite clumsy at the best of times. This loss of accuracy wasn't good.
Terri gritted her teeth as she thought about her options. She should have known better than to underestimate a Gym Leader. Her cheeks had turned red, most likely due to a mixture of anger and embarrassment. "Dirty trick..." she huffed. Terri breathed out to try to keep her temper under control. Now it was clear how important it was to focus.
"Shake it off, Ollin!" she ordered, her voice sounding a lot more serious. "Snubbull," the Pokémon grunted in response as it rubbed its eyes. "One bad turn, big deal. We still got this," the trainer insisted. She looked over at her opponent. Falkner seemed pretty smug. They'd obviously fallen into a trap that he used all the time. Terri was furious that she fell for it.
"Don't even think about groupin' us in with those other trainers. Your ground-type move mighta slowed us down but you're lackin' a type advantage." Ollin was slightly amused. It really wasn't often that Terri said something that made any sense. Was she actually showing signs of maturing? "Alright Ollin, same move again. If ya can't use your eyes, use your ears. Thunderbolt!" she instructed before biting her lip and waiting for the result.

Though his visage didn't show it, the gym leader keeping a relatively serene demeanor, Falkner was somewhat enjoying the outward rage his feisty opponent was displaying. She certainly had a lot of spirit, which could do her well going forward; so long as she could keep it in check. The struggle on the brink of her emotions was clear to see but right now it helped her get a focus. Terri's instructions to her pink pup were well thought out. "Type advantage doesn't guarantee you a win," Falkner cooed, turning his head up to his soaring bird pokémon and giving a nod. "But it certainly helps. Pidgeotto! Time to recoup, use Roost!" With those large ears of Snubbull's listening intently for the flutter of wing to try and pinpoint his opponent this seemed like a doubly good plan. Not only would it allow his precious bird to recover some health from the first thunderbolt, but it was also a quiet maneuver. Though, it would leave Pidgeotto a stationary target. But at least the type advantage Terri was relying on would be momentarily absent. Pidgeotto veered downward, swooping in with a whoosh of air that Ollin was doing his best to track through blurred vision. He rubbed one of his eyes with a paw to try and get the mud out but it only made it sting worse. As a light flared up around his opponent he squinted in that direction, unable to quite pinpoint the center but he had to give it a try anyway. Charging up, Ollin released another crack of lightning that zagged through the air toward Pidgeotto. A narrow miss. Terri growled and pulled at her hair. She'd know better than to get her hopes up next time. Pidgeotto's Roost added to the stress as now the Snubbull would probably need to land more than one Thunderbolt to defeat it. "I'm ready to knock that thing out myself," the girl muttered, clenching her fists.
Her face was dripping with sweat. It was really taking a lot for her to keep her cool. Gym battles had rules and Terri didn't want to be disqualified after coming this close. She had to remind herself that she still had Edwina and Tiago as backup if Ollin couldn't finish the fight. The Thunderbolt strategy had been too good to be true. The teen watched her partner helplessly rub its eyes, desperate to fix its vision. She wished she had something that could help.
A new idea suddenly came to mind. She wasn't as confident as she'd been when she'd first arrived but she needed to take a chance. Terri placed her bag on the floor and began to rummage through it. "Great, it's still here," she whispered, pulling her X Attack 6 from the white bag.
"New plan, kiddo," the girl announced. "C'mere!" The Snubbull waddled over to her, intrigued by this new idea. "A'right, we're gonna use this to power up your attack. Then we're gonna hit 'em with a Feint Attack. Got it?" Ollin nodded, shocked that Terri had thought of something like this. It wasn't a bad plan at. Maybe they could do it. Terri looked at Falkner, who was far too amused for her liking. "A'right man, you've had your fun. Ollin, take 'em out with a Feint Attack!"

Falkner was amused by Terri's frustration as nothing she tried could knock out Pidgeotto and Roost allowed it to heal whenever her Snubbull was lucky enough to score a hit. Falkner understood her pain however as he had been defeated numerous times by trainers who used electric types to wipe out his team with little effort so for him this battle was sweet karma working in his favor for once. " I cannot say you have not been a worthy foe as you have been quite creative in your attempt to win this battle. Had those Thunderbolts connected I would probably be standing in defeat in front of you. I know not to underestimate you however as that would be a huge mistake to make now."As young gym leader could tell by the sweat running down Terri's face that she was getting pretty nervous by now as her original strategy had been wrecked by bad luck. Though he remained optimistic once he saw her use a X Attack 6 on Ollin he really grew worried as that would give the Snubbull a massive boost to his attack. He tried to not worry too much as he ordered his next attack. " Pidgeotto use Gust, we cannot allow that Snubbull to hit you again. It's boosted attack will allow it to do far more damage." He said as Pidgeotto made its move. Summoning up a mighty gust Pidgeotto managed to score a direct hit on Ollin but the stubborn hound remained in the fight. " That Snubbull sure is something. I give it credit for now giving in. Pidgeotto try another gust before it can get in range to strike." As Pidgeotto summoned up another gust the attack did slightly more damage than the first time but again Ollin did not go down. With his attack boosted to the max it was his turn to strike and Pidgeotto was in for a world of hurt as nothing could prepare it for the oncoming attack, Falkner could only watch in terror as it all unfolded. Ollin rushed towards the bird faking a swing of his paw from the left before striking for real from his right paw. The smack was so hard that the walls in the gym vibrated for several minutes after the attack connected. Pidgeotto itself was slammed into a wall from the force of the attack knocked out with Falkner in disbelief. " I am in total shock, I have never seen a trainer beat me in such a way but a win is a win. Take this prize money for your victory. Also take this TM for Roost and the Zephyr badge as well as it is more than earned."As he recalled his bird he took a moment to recover from the shock before speaking one final time. " I wish you the best of luck on your journey. You have been quite an amazing challenger and I am impressed with how you came about this victory though I cannot say I am a bit disappointed that I lost."Gym Battle Pidgeotto | Level 15 | Keen Eye HP: 0% (0/48) Status: KO'ed Used Gust X2! If you see me comin' down the street... ... You know it's time to go.
Using up one turn to power up Ollin's attack was risky. Pidgeotto's Gust was reasonably effective. Since the bird was quicker, it had the opportunity to do a lot of damage before Ollin could even make a move. "Don't mess this up on me, kiddo," Terri whispered as she watched the bulldog take the first hit. Another strike came immediately afterwards but the fairy-type managed to withstand the blast. "Yes! Good work, now let 'em have it!"
The clumsy bulldog didn't need accuracy to successfully land this attack. It struck down the Pidgeotto, ending the battle at last. Terri let out of squeal of happiness. She was so relieved. She dashed over and lifted her Pokémon from the battlefield, squeazing him tightly. "I knew ya'd pull through ya little geek!"
Ollin was shocked. The strategy had worked so well and he had never seen this side of Terri before. It was a nice feeling. Terri turned to Falkner, still holding the pink Pokémon in her arms. "Dunno why you're surprised. I told ya not to group us in with the other loser trainers," she reminded him. She approached him to claim her badge and prizes. "Thanks for the battle, I guess." she replied, unsure of what else to say. "A'right then, guess we're outta here."
Terri turned her back and waved behind her as she made her way out of the building. It came across as a bit rude but she had her badge and didn't have time for pointless small talk. She fumbled around in her bag until she found the badge case she'd bought earlier. She placed the Zephyr Badge in the top-left corner. "One down," she smirked, looking down at Ollin. "Snubbull," Ollin replied, faintly. It visibly exhausted after the battle. They'd have to stop by at the Pokémon Center before they returned to their training.
