The red haired female shivered as she stood outside the tall gym, her first gym. She took in a deep breath through her nose and let it out through her mouth. "Alright girl, you can do this. It's just like battling another trainer and you've done that a bunch of times! Just take a deep breath and go in there with confidence in your team and kick some feathery behinds that will make the canaries cry!" She whispered to herself trying to bring up the courage to actually enter. She took another deep breath and pushed the door open and stepped into the Violet City Gym.
"Hello?" She called out as the door shut behind her leaving her alone in the gym, "I'm looking for the Gym Leader Falkner. I'm here to battle for the Zypher Badge." Her words came out as she took in the sights of the Gym. It was a typical Gym for Pokemon battles, she knew that Falkner would take the other side and then the battles would begin. She just hoped she had picked her team right. She had backup in case what she had planned failed, but she had confidence that they could take care of it.

Falkner had been admiring the view from the upper level of his gym. The wide, clear windows displayed the winter wonderland outside. Snow fell softly from the heavens to the ground in the small town, many Pokemon were most likely asleep in their nooks and trainers were probably celebrating with their family members in their cottages and homes across the region. The bird Pokemon in the gym were quite happy to be in the comfort and care of their large gym.
Falkner heard the front door open, he looked to the door hoping for a good challenge. In strolled a red-headed trainer. She called out wondering where the leader was, Falkner got on to his elevator of sorts and took it to the ground floor. “Hello. I was admiring the snowy weather from up above.” Falkner wondered silently what kind of trainer this girl was, perhaps a type specialist? He was unsure. There was no real need to speculate since he would find out shortly. “I’m Falkner, the gym leader for this gym. I’ll be happy to accept your challenge to battle me for the Zephyr badge. I’ll be using Pidgey first.” Pidgey flew in from the upper level of the gym and perched himself on Falkner’s shoulder for the time being, waiting for whatever Pokemon the challenger would decide to use.
Falkner sent out Pidgey (level 10).

Megan had to admit the view from inside his gym was breath taking as the snow gently fell from the sky and landed among the streets of Violet. She figured times were slow at the Gym with the cooler weather and she took it to her advantage hoping that the Bird trainer would be in a good mood. Megan only had to wait for a second after her words for the Gym leader to show himself as he road from up above back to the ground floor so-to-say and introduce himself. Megan gave a curt smile and a nod, "Falkner, it's wonderful to meet you I'm Megan and I am pleased that you accepted my offer of battle."
She then took her side of the gym floor, if he was going to start off with Pidgey than she was going to choose, "Poncho, let's go! First gym battle and I want your help!" She said grabbing his pokeball from her hip and tossing it out letting the black dog pokemon into the gym.
He came out in a flash of red light and looked around eagerly in anticipation. Megan shrunk down the empty pokeball and returned it to her waist fiddling with the rest of the pokeballs on her hip. Okay, let's see. Falkner usually favors defensive tactics if I remember correctly. "Alright Poncho, let's start this off with a tackle on that bird!" The rush Megan felt right now was different than any other trainer battle she had been apart of.

Upon first impressions of meeting, Falkner really enjoyed and respected this trainer. Megan seemed to really cherish her Pokemon and the respect she had for them was very important in becoming anyone of importance in the Johto region. “I can tell your connection with your Pokemon is very strong; good for you.”
Poochyena was quite ready to start the battle, he was geared and ready for some action. As soon as Megan called out an order for him, he shot off towards Pidgey, ready to tackle the bird. Typically Pidgey went first in battles with these trainers, so Falkner was surprised at Poncho’s speedy nature. “Alright Pidgey, retort with your own tackle attack!” Up and away the bird went, ready to dive in for a tackle. It had seemed as though the two Pokemon were evenly matched, which Falkner enjoyed. He could tell the battle would be a good one. Battle

A glint of anticipation for the battle ahead shone in Megan's eyes and she tried to keep her inner thoughts calm. A smile though was found on her face at Falkner's words of praise "Thank you. You're praise means much to me. I have worked hard to earn the respect and trust of my pokemon, they aren't just my battle creatures but my friends and companions." She said as Poncho returned to her side a little beaten up from the tackle attack that Falkner's Pidgey dished out. Playing offensive today I see, well better not stop here. Megan stroked the top of the black shaggy dogs head.
"How about we look at another tackle attack Poncho, let's have it!" She said hoping that the dog would be able to take another hit if that was Falkner's decision. She watched at the black blob of her Poochyena as it sped across the Gym towards the smaller avian.

Falkner gave a light nod after the pair of tackle's had been exchanged. This seemed like it was going to be a very straightforward fight. A nice change of pace in all honesty. His calm eyes turned up to Megan, the faintest smile dressing his otherwise neutral visage. "It's no surprise then that you're bond with Poncho is so strong. From what I understand they can be rather difficult to control as a trainer starting out," Falkner began, taking a moment to pause and brush some bangs that had fallen into his face. "If you're already thinking along those lines I don't doubt you'll go far in your journey Megan."The curl of his lips strengthened as she called for another tackle from her hound. They were on the same page. Pidgey cocked his head to the side to view Falkner from the corner of his vision. Falkner gave a nod and thrust his hand forward, "Again." It was simple and vague, but an unmistakable command. Pidgey hopped forward, spanning his wings to glider just a foot off of the ground as he zoomed toward the grey furred pokémon. Poncho growled as he was smacked into a second time. He recovered quickly though, and chased after Pidgey as the bird began to circle back around to take a position back by the gym leader. This was the perfect moment to lung forward and tackle the small bird to the ground. VS. Falkner

A chuckle was emitted from Megan's vocal chords when Falkner talked about how rather difficult Poochyena's can be to control. "Isn't that the truth! Poncho and I have come a long way since I met him on in Cherrygrove! Many battle together, it's that right boy!" She said petting his head and a bark emitted form Poncho in response to his trainer. "That is high praise Falkner! And I hope to continue on and go far on this pokemon journey! It has not been an easy one so far."
Megan was surprised with not only how evenly matched this battle was so far, but with how offensive avian trainer had been off the start of the battle. Again, was all the trainer gave and the Pidgey hopped and then glided towards Poncho and the two met in a fur and feather flurry trying to get to each other in the attacks. It seemed as though it worked as the avian left with fur mixed in it's claws and fathers and Poncho had fathers on him and in the air with marks on his body.
Megan really did not like the brutality of battling but she understood the necessity with these creatures "Tackle." She said fists clenched hoping for Poncho to be able to hang on through this round. It seemed as the bird was also tiring.

Megan had a good head on her shoulders; if Falkner were to lose here, he wouldn't be too upset. Falling to such a level-headed trainer wasn't such a shame compared to others that just used their Pokemon as battling tools. One look at his birds (despite the fact he battled multiple times daily with them) and anyone would be able to tell that they were loved and enjoyed working with Falkner, versus others that may have just been churned out for wins. "It seems as though both are holding on pretty good! This is turning into a pretty close matchup, I haven't had a close battle like this in a while!" The energy only pumped him up more for the rest of the battle. "Pidgey, I hope you're feeling the excitement too!"While Falkner hoped his bird was enjoying the battle, he was almost nervous. Pidgey was looking rather down and out, feathers ruffled and flared out in an attempt to intimidate the enemy Pooch. Pidgey hadn't taken any time at all in the last pass to preen any of it's beautiful feathers, which meant that all of it's attention was on the battle. That wasn't necessarily a good sign. Falkner would've preferred to breeze through this battle without any harm to his Pokemon. Oh, if that were only the case every day! "We're gonna mix things up a bit. Time for a Gust! Let's whip this pup into shape!" Pidgey gave a nod and unfurled it's wings, given it had already proved it was a hair faster than the gristly pup. As the Pokemon battled, Falkner smiled at Megan. "Keep that spunk and attitude! It'll get you through a lot of the adversities you'll face. You and Poncho already have this down to a science, so I have no worries on your behalf." He grinned, watching his Pidgey flap it's wings to send a wind towards Poncho. The pup's fur bristled (part with anger and part because of wind ruffling) but didn't deter Poncho from charging forward for a heated tackle. Pidgey wavered, but somehow managed to stand on both feet. "What a hit! Pidgey, you did a great job! I see this really IS a close match!" Next round one of them would fall, for certain. The bird and pooch both just had it's eyes on the battle at hand and was waiting for what hoped to be the last command for this round. As a gust attack was called out Megan watched as Poncho had bounded across as her previous command and the speed and wind met. Luckily the two pokemon were still able to get an attack on each other and the battle continued.
The battle raged on in a very intense and equally matched frenzy. The battling pokemon definitely looked worse for ware and either one of them would be out in the next hit if not both of them. She nodded in agreement "I like an equally matched battle, I always feel guilty having an overly large advantage over my opponent." She said before smiling watching the Gym Master and his pokemon interact, he certainly was different than she had pegged him to be.
One more call, "Tackle" the female trainer called hoping that she would be able to give Poncho a much deserved rest after this.

Both combatants were now evidently struggling to maintain consciousness. Falkner cast his gaze across the field with great interest, planning his next move as carefully as the last. Hearing Megan's response, he nodded appreciatively. "Yes, indeed. I know what you mean, Megan. A close battle such as this is the best way to show off a trainer's bond with their Pokémon, as well as their judgement. You seem to be quite the skilled battler, but we'll see how far you can go now. Pidgey, let's finish this round off, my friend." Pidgey chirped, slowly raising its shivering wings and flapping them gently. It barely looked capable of flight, but it somehow managed to lift its body off the ground once more. Pidgey began to make its move toward Poncho, slowly but surely. Falkner smirked as he gave his next command to his partner. "Pidgey, let's try a Tackle now! Ramp things up for the finale!" In response, the Flying type lowered its head and started to slowly descend back to the battlefield. Poncho growled softly, mimicking his opponent's movements almost perfectly as he started to prepare for his own Tackle attack. However, Pidgey had shown its superior speed already, and this time was no different. The little pigeon-like creature slammed its full body weight into Poncho, sending the little Dark type across the Gym floor. He rolled down to Megan's feet, where he lay for a time. Seeing the results of his attack, Falkner called over to his challenger with an authoritative tone. "Well, it would seem that the first act is over, Megan. Shall we continue?"VS. Falkner

Megan watched in horror as the small avian's speed was just a bit faster than Poncho could move. As Poncho laid motionless on the ground Megan moved from her place and sat at the black dogs head stroking it and praising it for it's hard work. "I'm sorry I pushed you, I shouldn't have. You did a great job, just rest up please." She said as she fumbled on her belt for his pokeball and returned him in a flash of light. The red head stood back up and returned to her post across from Falkner her mind going through the different pokemon that she brought with her. There was one that she would only call out in a desperate situation and right now this moment did not call for that. With Poncho down it left her in a tight situation but she figured that it would be best to call out a partner she had only worked a little with.
Feeling on her belt for the purchased pokeball she fumbled with it in her hands looking at it hoping that this was going to be a smart choice. Decided to go for it she looked at the pokeball in her hand before nodding the Falkner about continuing this battle. "Alright Peacheti! It's your turn to show us what you've got!" Megan took a deep breath and released the Water/Ground pokemon out onto the gym field. Falkner's Pidgey was looking worse for ware and Megan hoped that Peacheti would be able to get the battle rolling again. "Go for a Water Gun Peacheti!"

Seeing Megan's hesitance, Falkner raised an eyebrow. He could only wonder exactly what was going through the teenager's mind at this moment in time, but she seemed to be doubting herself all of a sudden. He considered speaking to her, trying to encourage her even, but stopped himself. This was her fight, and these kinds of thoughts were the kind of thing that she would have to learn to overcome herself. It didn't take long, however, for the challenger to release this next opponent onto the battlefield. The Gym Leader opposite her smiled as Peacheti the Wooper appeared before him. "Wonderful. It'd be a shame if this match were to end so soon. We were only just getting to the interesting part, after all," he replied, brushing away a runaway strand of hair as he turned to his Pidgey. "Alright, my friend, it looks like this might be the end of the road. Let's not let that stop us from fighting as hard as we can, of course. One last Tackle attack should be good, wouldn't you say?" The rather sombre choice of words didn't appear to unnerve Pidgey, who reached down to quickly fix a ruffled-looking set of feathers on its left side. Once that was done, the brown bird beat its wings softly, hovering in the air once again. Peacheti began to waddle toward her opponent ever so slowly, but it was Pidgey who would make the first move. It glided through the air majestically, its feathers barely rustling in the wind resistance as it closed the short distance toward its dopey-looking rival. Similarly to before, it started to dive as it came close before ramming into the Wooper with as much force as its tiny body could muster. Peacheti offered a meek cry of shock upon impact, but this did little to deter her. Before Pidgey could make a getaway, the Water type coughed up a concentrated stream of water, forcing her avian opponent off of her body. Pidgey was propelled back out toward its trainer, tumbling onto the ground and bouncing a couple of times before finally stopping merely two inches from Falkner's feet. "I'm impressed, Megan," Falkner admitted as he recalled his Pidgey, seeming totally unfazed by its defeat as though this were within his expectations. "This Wooper looks far sturdier than I might have given it credit for. Why didn't you lead with it, if I can ask?" The Leader replaced Pidgey's Pokéball with a second from his pocket. Flinging the replacement out in front of him, it cracked apart to reveal a much larger bird than Pidgey. This one spread its wings out wide, as if to brag about the span between them, and cawed loudly. "Pidgeotto, we've got a good challenger on our hands. Let's show them what we're made of, shall we?" Pidgeotto rolled its eyes. All the challengers were good. All Falkner did every day was lose to another talented young trainer. How was this any different? Pidgeotto sighed, taking flight once more. Even though Peacheti had the advantage of being a higher level Falkners avian was still the first to strike with a well planted tackle attack. Peacheti made sure though that as soon as it regained balance it didn't let that avian out of it's sight and released a jet of water towards it, soaking the bird and the force from the blast was enough to watch at the bird laid on the ground before Falkner called it back. Megan patted the Wooper on it's head and smiled giving it praise in ending the battle with the smaller bird Pokemon.
Falkner word of impressiveness echoed across the gym, and he then asked why Megan had not started with her Wooper. "I got Peacheti, the Wooper, in a trade with another Trainer on my battles, I have not worked with her much since I got her and I thought it would be silly to lead a gym battle with her. Though I am very impressed with her work here." Megan said explaining her side of the story. "But let us continue this battle, I am feeling like this next Pokemon opponent will not let us down without an impressive fight!"
Megan decided to keep Peacheti in as Falkner called out Pidgeotto, and even though the Gym Leader seemed to treat his pokemon well, Pidgeotto seemed indifferent to the battle at hand. "Alright Peacheti, we've already defeated one avian. Let's finish this second one! Start with a Tail-Whip!" And the second battle was off!

He smiled as she told him about the shiny blue friend in front of them. This is why he became a gym leader to learn and grow as a person. "Trading, a great way to see more Pokemon and get new friends in the trainer and Pokemon alike" he noted. After Pidgeotto came out of his ball with a bit of sass, Falkner let out a soft sigh. He delt bad for his good friend Pidgeotto yet, it knew it also loved the frill of battle. So even with a heavy heart he flew on the battle field. It was like something odd had kicked into him when Megan complimented it. "Thank you dear, Pidgeotto thanks you for the kind words. But he will not go easy on you!" he remarked. Finally hearing the move she was intending to use he grinned. "Alright Pidgeotto, if they'll use tail whip will use Mud-slap!" Though Megan had called quicker Pidgeotto was faster. He grabbed the mud from the ground and threw it towards the young woopers face, blinding him in the face. Wooper tried to shake it out of it's small eyes, but the horrid mud was stuck. Annoyed with the mud she jumped and waved her tail. Pidgeotto didn't get away fast enough and was hit by the tail whip. A gym battle with very little damage taken. Battle

The speeds of Falkners pokemon were impressive, since even though Megan had called the first move Pidgeotto landed the first attack. Pidgeotto had grabbed mud that had formed from the last face-off and splattered it towards Peacheti. It landed square on her face and some had managed to get it lodged in her eyes. Not letting Pidgeotto get away Peacheti ignored the mud for the moment and leaped up it's tail hit the larger bird across the face. Success!
A smile came across Megan's lips as she quickly called out, "good Peacheti, now a Water Gun!" Megan hoped that this battle would go smoother than the last and she hoped that Poncho was resting in his ball.
