Wild Fire had not been out of her pokeball before Megan had heard Falkner bark out a Mud-Slap. Typical. The avian did not miss though, an Wild Fire got a face of mud. "It's alright just shake it off you got this." Megan encouraged the equine. Megan watched as the mare took off from her command, Megan held her breath she watched as the bird narrowly dodged her attack and Falkner called to heal itself with a Roost.

Megan let out the breath she had been holding, at least Wild Fire had walked away mostly unharmed.

"Alright girl. I think if we do one more Flame Wheel we have them." Megan balled up her fists ready for this battle to be over and to get on her journey, as Wild Fire stomped her hooves reacting to her trainers build in energy and nervousness. She didn't want to let her down now, she had been working hard at this battle and it was time to finish it.

Pidgeotto finished its roosting and a few feathers fell from its beak. The bird and the pony stared at each other, both waiting for the other to move first, Wildfire stomp her hoof and embers flew around making Pidgeotto spread its wings.
"Mud-slap is our best bet Pidgeotto! We can do this!" Falkner advised and that was all the two pokemon needed to throw themselves at each other. Pidgeotto stayed low as it swooped in and Wildfire picked up speed as she raced forward engulfed in flames. The bird's claws scraped the ground as it prepared to throw more dirt at the ponyta but Wildfire leaped and Pidgeotto's eyes widened as she came sailing through the air and crashed into it.

Wildfire rolled to her feet and looked back, and just at that moment lightning flashed outside the window. Pidgeotto lay still on the ground, no mud-slap had been used and the thunder came rolling.
Falkner stood mouth agape staring at his fainted bird, he frowned a bit confused and took a step forward.
"Pidgeotto is unable to battle! Megan and Wildfire are the winners!" The referee's voice shot out over the battlefield and Falkner jumped startled and looked dazed at his assistant, then back at Pidgeotto.
"What? What just happened?" Falkner asked himself and took a few hesitant steps towards his bird, he glanced at the referee who was leaving their place and then he quickly walked to his prizes bird and kneeled beside it. He looked at it closely and then at Wildfire, his eyes widened with realization and he slapped his hand against his head. "The tail whip!"

After having recalled his mighty pidgeotto Falkner stood and smiled wryly to Megan, a glance over his shoulder made his assistant move over to join him and address Megan.
"That was quite a battle! Great tactic by the way, I'm impressed by your ponyta's strength," Falkner said and looked at Wildfire with as much admiration a bird lover could have for a non bird.
"You certainly have showed your worth and the Zephyr Badge will be proof of that," Falkner stated and the assistant opened a little box which he then presented, inside was the badge for Megan to take.
"I'd also like to give you this," the gym leader said and handed the winner a TM and some cash, "the TM is Roost, which you have seen the use of today. I'm looking forward to hear your future progress!"

Wildire carried Megan through and grows +2 levels to [lvl 18]!
She gains +1 happiness (+2)


Corla helped out and grows +1 level to [lvl 17]!
She too gains +1 happiness (+4)


Peacheti did a majority of the work and also grows +1 level to [lvl 18]!
She also gains +1 happiness (+3)


Falkner was defeated!

"Pidgeotto is unable to battle! Megan and Wildfire are the winners!" A ringing in Megan's ears came as she processed the words that were spoken. She did it. She actually did it! She got her first GYM BADGE! Wildfire came back proudly as Megan flung her arms around the equine. "You did it! You carried us through! Thank you!" She whispered tears threatening to leave her eyes in joy.

Megan quickly composed herself as Falkner came over, his assistant standing by him shortly after. Megan left a hand on Wildfire's shoulder as the man talked.

"It was a team effort, they all did their part to get us to where we stand now." she mentioned as she stroked the mare's shoulder "Wildfire just used what was built previously to carry us through." Megan smiled sheepishly. "But thank you Falkner. Your praise is accepted well."

Falkner handed over some cash and the Zephy badge. Megan held it in her hand with honor before taking out a leather badge collector and placed the Zephyr badge in its spot.

"I hope to meet again Falkner. It was a pleasure battling with you." Megan said reaching her hand out to shake the Gym Leaders.

When all formalities were said and done Megan and Wildfire walked side by side out of the Gym and into the pouring rain. First to find a PokeCenter and then to continue their journey forward.
