It seemed like just yesterday he was crossing through route 34 at dusk, scurrying quickly along the pathways trying not to accidentally venture into the wilder sections so as to get to the safety of the pokémon center. The place had a different feel to it when the sun was up. Ilex forest looming in the distance, a wall of tree lining the horizon with a green sheen... He'd be traveling back through there soon. The ranger just had an inkling that there was some unfinished business there that needed addressing. [break] [break]
But there were other things that also needed attending. His pokémon hadn't had any time of late to just mill about and have low stake bouts with their wild counterparts. A bit of relaxation and bright fresh air would do them good, and being that autumn was now in season Damien felt it was required of him to do this for his team. Plus he couldn't deny wanting to have some more time outdoors before the snow started falling, and at the moment he'd take nearly any excuse to spend time outside of the noise of the large city. Though, given his find of the National Park bearing the central activity of Goldenrod wasn't so bad. [break] [break]
"Alright guys, come on out." The ranger let loose his party once he'd found a secluded spot just off of the main route. Each took a moment to stretch and take in the lush surroundings; except maybe Tardar. She plopped her butt on the ground and took to poking at different colored leaves that were around her. [break] "We're going to take it easy today so... go ahead and enjoy yourselves. Just don't wander off too far alright?" Turret and Booker shouting their approval while Alexis silently lifted a fist in agreement and Simourv puffed up his feathers.

The weather had held nice for Damien's foray towards the glittering lights of Goldenrod City, but the chilly wind brought with it a whisper of rain, which fell in a light drizzle upon the route after a bit of time. This didn't bother the other Pokemon on the route, but it did bother a small figure dashing through the tall stalks of grass. Wet blades smacked against her exposed knees, the girl giving a disgusted shout as she waded free with a scowl that could scare the daylights out of Ghost-types. Her dark-blue hair was damp as well, as was her entire outfit, and she was most certainly NOT pleased with any of this. Ugh, her mother was going to wring her out for getting her best outfit dirty if she had to go traipsing through to mud to get home, Goldenrod City a gleaming beacon that suddenly seemed so far away with just a little bit of rain.
Putting her hands on her hips, Gina glared up at the clouds, momentarily unaware of Damien's team just a short distance from her spot. She'd come out to the route for a bit of fun, maybe have some lunch with her team after a couple of battles, not to get soaked. It seemed, however, that the chilling rain wouldn't let up any time soon, and Gina's wandering eyes brought her attention to Damien. Dark eyes widening, the young girl stared at him for a minute, chewing her lip speculatively. If she was going to be stuck out here, she might as well be doing something like battling. After all, it was undoubtedly clear he was a trainer, considering all the Pokemon around him.
"Hey, mister!" Gina shouted over the rain, inching closer to where the ranger sat. "Are these all yours? Because that's seriously cool! And, I'm totally not jealous at all," she continued, gaze roving over his team once more. (Idiot! Don't just blabber at a stranger, introduce yourself first!) Chiding herself for her lack of manners, Gina put on a bright smile and pulled out a Poke Ball from the pocket of her still-damp dress. "'Cause if they are yours, then I, Gina, challenge you!" she declared, throwing the ball forwards without waiting for Damien's response. Subtlety? Not something she was a good at. Bursting free from the ball was a cheerful looking Hoppip, its leafy fans rotating slowly to keep the Grass-type afloat. Gina waited with crossed arms and a confident grin, her annoyance with the rain temporarily forgotten.
Picknicker Gina has challenged you to a battle! She sends out Hoppip (Level 24)! Please select a Pokemon to fight.

A voice broke him from his thoughts. The boy had settled under a thick fur while his companions dabbled about nearby. His bright blue eyes searched for the source. The turquoise clad gal actually blended in quite well with the overcast skies drizzling moisture upon the landscape. Everything was either awash in vibrant hues of green or yellow, or darkened from soaking in the rain. The young lady was reasonably dry in comparison to her surroundings, though, from the looks of it she was about as enthused with the rainfall as the first picnicker girl he'd encountered on his journey.
[break][break] Damien gave a short wave before making to stand out from under the tree, brushing off his trousers as he did so. Not that that made much of a difference. His attire was still a bit of a mess from all the slipping and sliding through a rainy Ilex, and he had never been more aware of that until this moment; staring at the brazen girl. Thankfully she kept the conversation rolling.
[break][break] "They sure are," he replied, grinning toward the Hoppip she'd just released. Poor thing probably had to work extra hard with the sky falling on it. The ranger twisted round to give his pokémon a look over. Simourv had ascended to the tree tops and Damien wasn't exactly sure where the bird of prey was at the moment. Not exactly the most comforting thought even if the rufflet was his. Bearithusa could be heard... somewhere, with Turret likely not far keeping an eye on the excitable bundle of mischief. That left him with three. Alexis hadn't had much of an opportunity to battle much, but given what Damien knew of Gina's pokémon he figured perhaps it wasn't the greatest to send forth his ground type. [break] "Tardar..?" he began, turning his head the other direction to view the panda idly sitting under the large tree. She turned her big eyes up at the ranger, scrunching her lips together for a second before pushing herself up and waddling over. "This'll be fun," he assured her.
[break][break] The young lad returned his gaze to Gina, "I, Damien, accept your challenge, Gina." He stifled half a laugh as he playfully replied. "Let's warm up a bit first Tardar. Work up!"

Gina was beyond thrilled that her challenge was accepted and she hardly could wait to get started. She had been hoping for better weather but a chance to train her Pokemon was always something to look forward to. Her Hoppip was excited as well as most of the time it only got to assist Gina in other activites instead of battles so it was a nice change of pace. She was not a very strong Pokemon but most of Gina's tasks did not invovle strength but in this case it would be a chance to grow a bit stronger as it looked over at Tardar. The panda was pretty intimidating but she was going to try her best. Gina had taught Hoppip a few useful moves and one in particular might help make up for Hoppip's lack of strength. With a small pause she gave her Pokemon an order. " Hoppip we are going to try something a bit different here. Use Poisonpowder to start things off." The plant Pokemon did not look like it would be very fast but looks were pretty deceiving as a gust of wind blew Hoppip closer to Tardar. Being at such close quarters allowed it to hit her in the face with the powder causing the panda to cough violently. Tardar had trouble breathing after the powder entered her lungs but she was a pretty tough Pokemon. Poison alone was not going to bring her down quickly as she started to flex her muscles. Not only did it make Hoppip feel a bit uneasy but it also gave her attack and special attack a nice boost. She took a bit of damage from.the poison but otherwise she was feeling pretty strong. Gina was pretty amazed that she did not do anything costly as she waited for the next round. This was going to be a good battle if things kept going the way they were and she did not want to jinx it. Trainer Battle Gina's Hoppip | Level 25 HP: 100% (60/60) Status: Normal Move: Hoppip used Poisonpowder VS Damien's Tardar | Level 18 HP: 87% (50/57) Status: Poisoned, Attack +1, Special Attack +1 Move: Tardar used Work Up

Well it was undeniable that Gina had the upper hand after the first exchange. While neither of the pokémon directly moved against one another Tardar was now plagued with a poison that would slowly eat away at her health. Damien may have had a decent open with the power boost, but power wasn't going to do much good if the powder ended up whittling away his combatant's strength before he could get enough use out of the turn he just used.
[break] [break] "I see you're not taking any chances Gina," he commented, passing a friendly smile to the girl through the light droll of rain drops between them. Booker barked supportively, scampering over to the ranger's side with his stubby tail wagging. The pancham didn't really seem to notice her ally's good wishes. Tardar's mouth was scrunched up with the pain ebbing in her lungs, forehead wrinkled, and a desire to just go back to doing nothing on the ground. Batting about the autumn leaves drizzled with the rain as she stared up at the bland grey that was the sky.
[break] [break] "Hang in there Tardar, I know you can handle it. Let's test how tough that hoppip really is with one of your Karate Chops." Alexis pumped a fist off to the side, as if signalling the beginning of the next round of moves between the two; a silent referee. Damien was hoping this wasn't one of those dual types of grass pokémon that was about to unleash a gust attack. Poor Tardar wouldn't be very happy about that.

Vs. Picknicker Gina To anyone watching, the action-less first round would have seemed boring, but it emboldened Gina immensely. The rare times she picked battles, or had other trainers seek her out, she often faced super scary Pokemon that made short work of her precious Pokemon. Tardar wasn't a Pokemon she knew of, but something that cute couldn't be hiding super strength... hopefully. Hoppip shook herself with a short happy cry, also delighted to have not been blown away in one turn by a retaliatory move. With both trainer and Pokemon in such high spirits, Gina was brimming with more confidence than ever as she pointed one hand at Tardar with a huge grin on her face. "Hoppip and I have been friends for ages, so we've had loads of time to figure out this battling stuff," she replied to Damien's comment.
Hoppip agreed with a graceful twirl, scattering rain droplets everywhere much to Gina's dismay. "Ick! Hoppip, go Tackle that Pokemon instead of getting me even MORE wet!" Gina said in a plaintive tone, unable to keep from pouting, even if it made her seem more childish. Taking advantage of another chance gust of wind, the pink Grass-type used the momentum to hurl herself in Tardar's direction. Damien's Pancham braced herself for impact... only to feel the lightest bump against her face. Huh. It was sort of like being hit by a pillow, except instead of being full of feathers, it was filled with clouds instead. Hoppip whirled away looking pleased, leaving Tardar bemused by the whole situation.
Not letting Hoppip get very far away, Tardar sprang after her floating foe with one paw raised up high. Seeing this, Hoppip tried to backpedal faster, but her reliance on the wind to move around with ease made her a rather easy target. Tardar swung out, the side of her paw slamming into Hoppip's side hard enough to send her spinning dizzily through the air back to her trainer's side, Gina's gasp just slightly audible over the steady patter of rain. Shaking herself again, Hoppip appeared a bit bewildered by the blow, but otherwise appeared to be in good spirits. Tardar resumed her previous position, wondering just how much damage she'd dealt to the little powder-puff creature before wincing as the poison took its toll once more.
Trainer Battle
Gina's Hoppip | Level 25 Health: 76% (47/60 HP) Status: Ride the wind right in yo face; Normal Hoppip used a successful Tackle!
VS
Damien's Tardar | Level 18 Health: 56% (32/59 HP) Status: Did that qualify as an attack?; Poisoned Atk +1, Sp Atk +1 Tardar used a successful Karate Chop! Tardar was hurt by poison!

Damien assessed the exchange carefully, trying to get a gauge for the damage being exchanged. Unfortunately the karate chop didn't manage to hit any kind of sweet spot. It was effective, to an extent, but that poison right on the first round was doing its job. "Your time together has definitely been effective. I've never seen a hoppip so strong," the ranger complimented the girl. It was truth. Normally he'd expect a hoppip to be rather easy to overcome. But it was clear that Gina's pokémon far out leveled his own. It was hard to tell if Tardar realized this or not, the sad panda normally wearing that pouty face. He wanted to give her an ego booster but he feared keeping her out any longer would either result in her fainting or even more obviously outmatched; which would undermine his efforts to cheer her up if she wasn't already aware of her loss.
[break] [break] "I'm going to have to give you this first round Gina, well done," he began, adjusting his hat to knock off some of the rain building up on the rim. Damien hummed, turning his eyes away to look at the other two standing by him. Alexis was far to inexperienced, not to mention at a type disadvantage, to face off against the hoppip. That left only Booker as an option. Upon seeing his trainer's attention fall onto him the faithful hound wagged his tail excitedly. Damien smiled down at the pup. "Tardar, come on back here before that poison really starts to harm you. Booker, you're up boy."
[break] [break] He knew Gina wouldn't let the switch go unpunished, he just hoped she wouldn't go and poison another of his pokémon. Though, he knew what Booker held. Hopefully the leftovers would do its due diligence and keep the accumulative effect of any harmful spores minimal and allow Booker to take advantage of his, likely, superior attack strength. Damien could only hope.
[break] [break] Booker happily skipped up to face Hoppip, furry mustache wriggling as he barked. He huffed once and prepared for whatever Gina was going to throw at him. The hound's ears flicked back though upon hearing Damien take a breath and open his mouth, "Ice Fang Booker." It was a simple instruction. Probably not something Gina would be expecting, and perhaps a little cheap considering that it should be outrageously effective against the grassy flyer, but a battle was a battle and Booker was currently all he had to combat her.

Gina was pretty happy with the compliement, she and all her pokemon had worked hard to be as strong as they are. As the battle got more and more heated. She was shocked that Damien retreated his pokemon but it made sense and she let out a sweet smile. "That was a very kind choice but as you know that gives me an attack!" she annonced in her sweet voice.
The Hoppip spun the leaves on the top of its head in happiness that it got to move again. "use other posion powder!" the pink ball Pokemon made a happy cherp before shaking the purple powder over Booker. Booker got posioned but what Gina didn't know about Bookers secert item and she had to watch as he nibbled on the apple.
Gina was shooked but new Daimen had it in him. "Darn, That is a good item. she admited annoilying. But Gina's hoppip was faster then the under leveled but strong dog. "Ok use bullet seed! let's get some damaged done! Hoppip started to uproot seeds that failed to grow before throwing them at Booker.
Booker barked angrily at what was happening but it was his turn. His fangs turned to ice and bit down on the flying pink Pokemon. Gina sighed as she knew it was super effective and down went her Pokemon. "Good fight! But I have more pokemon!"
Gina is going to send out a level 24 Hoppip change pokemon? Brooker fought well in battle. Brooker gained 3 levels making them level 22 and gained +1 happiness. Brooker can learn Work Up forget a move to learn? Tardar fought well in battle. Tardar gained 1 levels making them level 19 and gained +1 happiness. ooc: Brooker is on 53 health(before level up) and posioned.

He was hoping that it wasn't going to be another round of poison, or at the very least that Booker could avoid succumbing to the powders. But that was not the case. His pup was too brave, not backing away or dodging around the oncoming poison cloud. Luckily, though, Damien had at least planned for the possibility. He could help but smile broadly as the canine took a nibble of the left overs item to help counteract the effects of the poison.
[break] [break] "Heh, it certainly comes in handy when you're on a long hike. Or in a case like this," the boy added with a chuckle. He scratched the back of his head, wetting his hair with his soaked glove. The rain still wasn't much of a bother to him, the frequency of droplets remaining rather light. It was a hell of a lot better than the electrical downpours and constant hailstorms from the beginning of his journey. Compared to the first year of travel this was nothing. Heck, it was still nearly as enjoyable as a warm sunny day. Though, he knew someone like Gina, a picknicker, would certainly not agree.
[break] [break] Bullet seed was a worrying attack. With how strong the hoppip was in comparison to his own pokémon it could potentially be a devastating hit. He was now more than ever glad to have withdrawn Tardar. She was a tough panda but, if Gina was lucky he had a feeling it would have been a shorter battle between the two. Booker put an end to it though, his icily glazed fangs digging into the soft grass flier with ease. Damien felt a bit bad for how swiftly the attack had rendered her hoppip unconscious, but that was the way of battles. [break] "Same to you. Looks like we're one for one now," he replied with a nod of his hat. Half a laugh escaped him when she sent out another Hoppip to face him. "Oh wow! I bet this one's just as tough as the last one ey?" He looked down to Booker and considered, turning his eyes to Alexis and then to the ball in his hands containing his poisoned pancham. "Well I'll keep Booker out as otherwise I don't stand a chance," he laughed. "Read boy?"
[break] [break] The herdier barked, twitching his nose and wagging his little tail happily back and forth. The ranger nodded in reply, "Alright then. You know what to do." Damien had half a mind to choose some other attack, make it a bit more fun an interesting for Gina. But with the poison attacks and how speedy her hoppip were he didn't want to risk his chances of victory.

Hoppip was of course not the best Pokemon stats wise. But what matters is the bond between trainer and their companions, through more training, this specimen could be something quite spectacular! “Both of my Hoppips have different abilities, making them cover more ground in battle. I know it seems silly to have two of the same Pokemon, but this line of evolution is my favorite! Grass types are my specialty, so watch out.” Gina said confidently. This pupster would have to try extra hard in order to get what it wanted!
Little did Gina know, this dog Pokemon had quite the move for this grass/flying type. No doubt that Damien proved to be an excellent and cunning trainer! Although Gina’s Pokemon had different abilities, it wouldn’t help her in this case unfortunately. With a steadfast rush, the Herdier zoomed forward with a set of chompers laced with Hoppip’s arch nemesis: ice! “What?!” She said in astonishment. Very few trainers she had encountered could utilize the ice type. The rolling plains of Johto would not see this typing lest they go to the ice caves of the north. With a icy crunch, Hoppip was down for the count. “No! What the heck! Good job Hoppip, you did fine. Go Bulbasaur!” Alexis grew (one level) to level 19! Booker gained 3 levels and is now level 25! Booker would very much enjoy learning the move CRUNCH. He also gained +1 happiness (+5 in total). Thoughts? Gina sent out Bulbasaur (level 23)! ((Once again, correct me if wrong <3))

Damien quietly let out half a laugh at Gina's reaction to Booker swiftly dispatching her second hoppip. He felt a little bad but... Damien didn't want to draw out the fight when his herdier would clearly be able to triumph in the end. All thanks to leftovers really. Perhaps he could do things differently against her final pokemon though, as his eyes brightened seeing who it was. [break] "Oh wow! I assume Bulbasaur has been with you since the beginning ey?" The ranger gave a friendly smile and whistled for Booker to come back. Damien knelt down and gave the canine a good rub, getting his gloves absolutely soaking running them through the wet fur of his pokemon. "Good job boy. I may need you again but... Let's see if I can't get Turret and Bearithusa back first," he explained quietly to his herdier. Booker wagged his tail and panted, shivering a second later before nibbling on the leftovers again.
[break] [break] "Just a moment Gina." Damien raised his a hand to his lips and let out a shrill whistle that cut through the light patter of rain. He waited, watching and listening to their surroundings. Booker soon added his own set of barks to try and call back the ranger's exploring pals. Soon there was a trill not far off and following was the occasional rustle of bush as a pair of pokemon came rushing back. The snover was absolutely ecstatic to be out in the cold rain, spinning on the spot when she stopped after entering the clearing. She held a wilted flower and some long blades of grass in her bushy hands, giggling childishly before waddling closer to Damien. [break] "There you are." Following the emergence of Bearithusa was Turret. The wartortle shaking off a bit of a flustered demeanor when he saw the mischievous ice type back with their trainer. "Great! Turret, I hope you're not too tired." The lad indicated Gina and her bulbasaur off to the side. The wartortle grinned and put a fist to his chest. Damien chuckled then turned back to fully face the grass specialist.
[break][break] "Let's face off with our starters. No more pesky ice moves to worry about, it should be fun!" He knew as a water type Turret would have a disadvantage against Gina's bulbasaur, but Turret wasn't a squirtle anymore so he figured that might even the odds. "Ready?" He gave a nod to Gina, then looked to his oldest companion. The wartortle called his name energetically, the fluffy white tail twitching behind. "Start off with a Headbutt!"

Gina watched as more Pokemon joined up with Damien. A little Snover caught her eye; what a rare grass type! “Bulbasaur is definitely a force to be reckoned with, so you better watch out. Your Squirtle may be evolved, but Bulba has the upper hand with the typing advantage! Perhaps you might want to use that Snover to battle instead, I’m sure it’d give you a better matchup.” Gina snickered, happy to be able for a comeback in an otherwise not so great battle on her part. Tis true that Hoppip can be somewhat weak, but Bulbasaur was quite the sought after little grass type! Hopefully it’ll evolve and then Gina can really get something going.
“Alright Bulbasaur, use Razor Leaf!” Gina cheered out, but Torrent was already two steps ahead. He ran past hitting the smaller Pokemon with his head. In turn, the grass starter shot out a series of leaves to try to destroy the evolved foe. What luck, the razor leaf did a great sum of damage. “Great job Bulbasaur, we’re going to get back into this game soon enough! Keep up the hard work and we can do this together!” Bulbasaur smiled at its trainer, happy to be in such a great battle. The ranger blushed slightly at her teasing. He could feel his cheeks warming, providing what little of the splattering raindrops pounding on his shoulders that reached his face an even starker contrast to cool. The lad adjusted his hat for the dozenth time this match, hearing a stream of built up water fall with a loud wet splat to the ground behind him. "Well, I figured I'd give you a break from ice moves," the boy explained, bringing back his friendly smile. "And Bear wouldn't give you that sort of reprieve considering her secondary typing." Damien chuckled lightly, remembering the hungry look she'd had in her eyes before commanding her bulbasaur to attack. No doubt the rare species' grass type was alluring. Maybe he should switch her in just so Gina could see the frost tree pokémon in action?
[break] [break] It was a tough choice, but Turret hadn't gotten a chance to stretch his legs for a while and he was quite enjoying the difficult match up. It was anyone's game. Bulbasaur came out strong, taking full advantage of her typing over the water turtle. But Damien was no slouch. Headbutt was a strong move, but not just that. Turret was faster, and Headbutt had a decent chance of causing the target to flinch. With any luck the grass pokémon would lose the opportunity to make one of its attacks against the wartortle, thus providing Turret a great opening and putting him on top. It was definitely risky though. Luck wasn't always on his side.
[break] [break] "This is going to be a close one. You're bulbasaur is pretty sharp Gina, but I still think Turret's got a decent chance." He paused a moment, letting out half a laugh before adding, "So long as you don't get a critical." Truthfully the bulbasaur probably didn't need a crit to succeed this bout of theirs. The last set of razor leaves that had cut their way passed Turret's defenses had done well enough. No doubt Damien's little turtle wouldn't be able to handle another one of those at that sort of strength.

Damien’s Wartortle had quite the upper hand with its higher tiered speed, perhaps if Bulbasaur had been evolved by now, it would’ve fared better in battle. Too late for that now, however, as the battle would come to a close at the end of this next round of attacks. Either Wartortle would finish off Bulbasaur with just enough hit points, or Bulbasaur would do it itself. The wintery rain sprinkled down onto the field, but either Pokemon seemed too focused to pay it any mind.
“Your Wartortle is certainly stronger than I expected, so I’ll applaud your moxie.” Gina said grimacing at the state of her Pokemon’s health. She thought she had it in the bag, but now things weren’t looking so good now that the water starter had proved its speed to be quite the adversary. “Well, nothing left to do but go in for another razor leaf. Bulba, you know what to do.” Her grass Pokemon nodded, but Turret was two steps ahead. The turtle crashed into the littler Pokemon with a mighty headbutt, with Bulbasaur throwing back the sharp leaves it was all too familiar with. This next round would be the ultimate round. A bit of anxiety began welling within the young lad. He knew it was going to be a close match, but knowing something and experiencing it were two different things. Ice blue eyes flitted between the two combatants. Damien could feel his palms sweating even through how wet his gloves already were. Thoughts of withdrawing Turret went through his mind as he worried, his chest beating with every pant the wartortle made. [break] "How're you doing Turret?" he asked. It wasn't so much a check of condition as it was an inquiry on whether his partner wanted to continue going. The turtle's fluffy tail twitched at the sound of his trainer's voice. Turret turned his head to see Damien out of the corner of his eye. He nodded. Damien grinned. "If you say so."
[break] [break] "Ready Gina? This will probably be the deciding round," the ranger commented, rolling his lips for a second in anticipation. Unless the picnicker changed tactics he knew Turret would be out for the count. As tough as his turtle was the powerful grass move had an edge that was hard to overcome given Turret's typing. And paying attention to Bulbasaur's state Damien knew there was a really good chance the wartortle's next headbutt wouldn't be enough to quite deplete the rest of Bulbasaur's reserves. But, it felt like cheating to change out his pokémon now. As much as he wanted to protect Turret from disappointment and fainting Turret wanted this; so Damien would let him have it.
[break] [break] The rain continued to dribble down, seeming to let up over time a little bit. At least Turret was in his element; not that that would do much good against Gina's grass team but still, it was a comfort. "Alright Turret, last go. Another Headbutt! Put everything you have into this one buddy."
