“Jeeez, your Wartortle is strong. I’m surprised that even through its type disadvantage it’s held out this long..” She said looking sorrowful. No matter what she did, she couldn’t beat this trainer, even with Bulbasaur! What kind of trainer can’t beat a water type using a grass type? She had to keep trying though, you can’t run away from a trainer battle, this was a code of conduct. Nervously she waited to see what her options were, she knew that the Wartortle was getting the upperhand now.
The boy said something to her. “Yes, I do suppose it will be the final round. You’ve really shown me a lot about raising Pokemon just in this one battle.” She stared introspectively at the ground. With a deep breath, she decided the next move. “Alright Bulbasaur use your-“ but as she spoke Wartortle was gaining momentum, crashing in for another headbutt. Before she could finish her sentence, the turtle knocked out the grass starter. “You did good, Bulbasaur.” She said returning it to its ball. “And so did you! Your water Pokemon was great in battle. You should be really proud of it.” And with that, she waved goodbye as she hurried to the Pokemon Center. Bulbasaur | Level 23 | Overgrow | HP: 0% (0/60)Status: Ded Fainted! VS

[nospaces] "Thanks," was all the ranger managed to get out, a hand raising to pull a bit of stray hair from his eyes as he smiled sheepishly at the young lady. He felt a bit bad for her now. Not many trainers managed to lose to a typing that their pokémon was strong against. But Damien was sure there had been a high chance of her Bulbasaur overcoming Turret; it wasn't like his wartortle trounced her little grass type. The bulb pokémon just got a little unlucky was all. [break] "Turret's always surprising me with his capabilities, but I don't doubt we had luck on our side as well," he added after Gina had already recalled her companion and was turning to leave. He returned her wave, watching her leave through the trees back toward civilization. The boy sighed, looking down to Turret and giving him a thumbs up. "That was awesome." The turtle gave a toothy grin before yawning and stretching into the air. Alexis raised a fist in salute as well, Bearithusa trilling loudly before rushing off to splash in a small puddle that had built up. [break] [break] "Don't you run off again! I wanted you guys to have some R&R but I'd appreciate it if you at least stayed nearby so I could keep an eye on you all," the boy explained, giving a nod to Turret. He knew his starter pokémon had only gone off with the excitable snover in order to keep tabs and make sure she didn't get into any trouble. "Now where'd Simourv get to?"[break] [break] As if called, the quiet raptor dove down from a near tree and landed on a low branch closer to Damien. He stared at the ranger expectantly, causing a cold shiver to trickle down Damien's spine. The young lad took a breath, closing his eyes briefly and washing his mind from his mild ornithophobia. He was getting much better about it between Cyrus and Simourv, but there was just that scary calm in the rufflet's eyes that still unsettled him. [break] [break] Something cold touched his nose, Damien's eyes shooting back open and wiping a couple fingers on his face. It was wet but... He just noticed it had stopped raining. Instead the grey clouds above were sending down winter flakes. [break] "Alright guys, let's make a quick trip to the PokéCenter to heal up Tardar and Booker. Then we'll get right back out here. Maybe you'll have some fresh snow to play in when we get back." [break] ~~~~~~~~~~ [break] [break] Reentering the route it seemed the snow had kept up all night. What was once sodden was now icy blanketed with a good foot of white powder. Damien had made sure to dress warm for the occasion, whipping out the long underwear and thicker coat so he could remain comfortable. His pokémon were already raring to be released. Bear immediately set out to trying to roll up large snow balls and put together a small snowman, Turret and Alexis helping out. Booker was bounding through bigger drifts, send up plumes of snow in his wake. Simourv was less eager to bother with the winter setting, and Tardar as usual found a nice place to sit then plopped down on her back and stared up at the sky. [break] [break] "Why don't you make a snow angel Tardar?" the ranger suggested, crouched over the sad little panda and watching her consider the idea. Word Count: 304

The site of the battle was soon covered in snow, much like the rest of the Goldenrod plains. Route 34 had turned into a winter wonderland, and the idea of playing in the snow wasn't an idea restricted to Damien. Many of the trainers around here were still on their badge journey, which meant many of the Pokemon were young. Some hadn't even seen snow before! It stuck to the ground, it stuck to clothes, it stuck to Pokemon's noses... It was truly an enjoyable experience. It was entirely possible that Tardar was the only Pokemon in the route that wasn't enjoying themselves. Scratch that. A disgruntled Ponyta, flames billowing behind it, walked through the frozen landscape. Any snow around it turned to slush from the creature's heat, which meant Ponyta didn't get to play in any of the snow! It kept seeing all of the other Pokemon enjoying themselves, but Ponyta couldn't join in. With every step it got more and more irate. As soon as it realized that moving was melting the snow, it stopped moving only to watch the snow slowly melt around it (just at a slower rate.) Snorting and pawing at the ground angrily, Ponyta glared and found the one fixed object on the plain that wouldn't move. Tardar. Neighing angrily, Ponyta began to charge. Maybe this Pokemon would play with it, since it couldn't play with anyone else? Wild Ponyta (level 15) is melting the snow! Will you Fight or Flee?

The black and white bear pondered away, still lying quietly on the flat of her back. She didn't really feel like doing anything. Just staring up at the light grey sky and its varying layers of grey cloud moving through the sky at different speeds. But Damien was right there. Watching her. With a silent sigh she began to move her arms and legs. Up and down. Up and down. The ranger grinned down at the panda then stood, thinking he'd done good to get her more comfortable with the group and happier in general. Tardar kept going, planning to do so until she knew he wasn't paying any further attention, but plans change.
[break] [break] While gazing lazily up at the sky, her trainer now visible within the view, she couldn't help but notice the sudden shift in his face. He'd spotted something. "Heads up!" he called, glancing to gauge where all his other pokémon were at. The pancham blinked then sat up to get a look at what was incoming. She blinked again when she saw the fiery steed galloping toward them. No. Toward her.
[break] [break] She sighed again, mouth skewing to the side as she locked eyes with the disappointed ponyta. It was a look Tardar knew well and sympathized with. The bear stood up, not bothering to brush off any of the clinging snowflakes, and started forward. She heard Damien's voice behind her but she ignored it.

This snow storm didn’t mix well with Ponyta. The poor thing melted everything in its tracks! But regardless of that, the frozen temperatures still nipped at its health points. The fiery horse whinnied and was ready for a battle to pass the time. As the flames atop its head continued to flow in the chilly wind, it got ready to charge at Tardar, the quiet panda opponent.
The horse began running toward the Pancham with a determined look on its face. As it sprinted, a ball of flame engulfed it, melting more snow around the fire type. With a crispy flame wheel, the Ponyta hit Tardar, but luckily the eviolite came in handy! Much of the damage was absorbed, making a typically useful move not so useful anymore. It was Tardar’s turn, the Pancham leaped towards the pony with a karate chop attack. The two Pokemon stood their ground as snow continued falling from the sky, chilling the two battlers. Ponyta | LV 15 | HP: 43% (19/44 HP) Status: -3 damage from hail Used Flame Wheel! VS
Tardar | LV 19 | Iron Fist | Eviolite HP: 83% (46/60 HP) Status: -4 damage from hail Used Karate Chop!

As the two began their battle the snow began to rage its further displeasure on Johto itself. What had been an alright flutter of snow turned into a barrage of hail stones crashing down. This was less than ideal. Especially now that Tardar was somewhat separated from the group so long as the fiery horse was circling round. This fact increased Damien's anxiety, worried for the panda as she battled alone in the storm, but was also an interesting development. Being that she had entered into this exchange of her own desire he felt he should just let her do as she would.
[break] [break] Ponyta seemed to have a harder time with the attack and ensuing hail damage. The difference between the combatant's vigor likely helped by the purple stone that Tardar kept on her thanks to the ranger, but the pancham could feel that her blows were tougher against the equine than that flame wheel. The wet of snow melting on Tardar's face perhaps a contributor to that, but to not make sure of the elements provided would be impossible not to mention silly. Despite all this fortune weighing toward the fighter's victory she still held a mostly disinterested stare toward Ponyta. Just a hint of understanding and determination reflecting back to the furious fire type.
[break] [break] Tardar took a deep breath, shifting the leaf in her mouth to the other side and punching a fist into her other hand. It was time for the next exchange between them. It may be the last. Hopefully the battle, however long, would quench that satisfaction the blazing steed was looking for. If not, well, it'd just find another opponent later on. Tardar wasn't about to bother worrying about that. It was well beyond her capacity to care. This would have to be enough.

(Apologies for the low quality; I've got exam prep for Thursday so I'm kinda all over the place, but this needs doing. ^^; )The weather was certainly frigid to say the least, not that the Ponyta seemed to care. It had given up on trying to play with the disappearing snow; there was a more permanent plaything in front of it. Far better than the poxy white stuff. It fixed its gaze on Tardar, watching as the Pancham brushed the snow from her body and prepared herself for the second round of action. It would be the Ponyta to move first, though, and it lowered its head as it began to move. The equine's body quickly caught fire yet again, forming a small fireball in the middle of the snowy landscape. It quickly made contact with Tardar, sending her down to earth with a soft thump. The reply from Tardar was just the same as before, though. She rose to her feet and charged back at the Ponyta, landing a swift Karate Chop on the playful pony's neck. Ponyta let out a soft whimper as she staggered around, trying in vain to maintain her stance. In just a few moments, though, she collapsed to the floor, unable to fight any more. What a pointless game that was.
Congratulations! Tardar has taken out the wild Ponyta! Tardar gained 2 levels for her participation, reaching Level 21! Also +1 Happiness (up to +4)! Tardar is trying to learn... um... Slash?! Pancham gets Slash?!! Huh. You learn something every day. So... um... will she be deleting a move?Alexis gained 1 level via EXP Share, also reaching Level 21! The little fighter gave the slightest nod as the horse went down. Damien gave a subdued cheer from behind, clapping for Tardar's lone success. Maybe she was finally getting a bit more motivated to--She collapsed; intentionally. Falling to her back as she had been before the fight started and letting her weight sink into the remaining snow. Now that it was over, ponyta sated, the pancham could return to staring up at the bland sky and not having to move around. It took a few seconds but the return to her usual quiet self got a sigh from the young ranger.
[break] [break] "Well done Tardar," he complimented under his breath. No matter how short lived it had been, she'd still gone and done something of her own will. Hopefully that was a sign she was crawling out of her depression. Damien turned his attention back to the rest of his pokémon standing by. The hail had ceased, thankfully, but the winds which had brought it down on them so briefly remained. That wasn't stopping Bearithusa from desperately trying to compose a snowman though. She had eagerly gone back to her construction the moment ponyta fell, bowling the second piece that would be the stubby snowman's head; since that was as high as she could reach with how massive she had made the base.
[break] [break] The snow tree pokémon was in the process of lifting up her giant snowball, fighting against the wind as she tried to balance it on the other, when Damien began Simourv's perch. Wrapped up in thought deciding whether to remain out here or to take shelter, Damien was wholly unprepared for the sudden flap of wings and light poke of claw on his shoulder. Base instinct had him swatting at his feathered friend and jumping away with a frightened pant. The rufflet was taken aback but didn't even squawk. He just hovered on the spot, staring at the startled ranger with blank eyes. Realizing what he'd done Damien put a hand to his chest and settled.
[break] [break] "S-Sorry Simourv." It was still hard with the baby bird. He was growing fast, just as Cyrus had, but Damien still didn't quite have the bond with Simourv as he had with his other bird pokémon and it was harder to do so not just because he resembled a spearow, but also when the baby rufflet wanted to be a bit more close. At times it seemed Simourv understood Damien's discomfort, but then there were moments like this.
[break] [break] There was an eruption of snow from beside him followed by an angry screech, bushy hands wriggling in the air and sprouted from a pile of snow. It seemed with Damien's sudden fright he had also startled his snover. She lost her fight against the wind and ended up with her carefully crafted snowball falling on top of her and breaking up. Her disappointment was for all to hear, carried by the wind through the wilds.
[break] "I'm sorry Bear! We can make a new one okay?"

After what seemed like an age, the wintery weather finally settled down. In its place, a warmer air wafted through Route 34, bringing with it a thick fog. Within seconds, Damien would find his vision quite impaired, with only about ten feet's worth of vision at best. Perhaps not the best of conditions to be hunting for Pokémon in, but there was little that the budding Ranger could do about it. There seemed to be a fair amount of movement around, but with so little visibility it was impossible to determine exactly what was moving. There was, however, one creature who was quite comfortable in the mist. Taking advantage of its inherent Psychic senses, a Drowzee sauntered through the grass slowly but surely. This new fog was the perfect chance for the little baku to get some uncontested food while everyone else was blinded. It dragged itself along, snaffling up berries and other small treats on its way. Though as it progressed, unease started to set into its mind. There was danger near. It felt... human. Drowzee had two choices. Did it want to fight or make a break for it while it could? Drowzee pondered on this. It was only a human, right? It probably couldn't see at all. This was an opportunity. An easy win. Oh, how Drowzee could brag when it returned home. What joy. With the decision made, Drowzee ran as fast as it could, its lumbering frame looking less than graceful as it made a beeline for Damien's position.
A wild Drowzee (Level 14) is charging toward Damien! Fight/Flee? Note: Fog (-10% Accuracy for all participants) will be in effect for this battle. Shiny roll: Pts7k_eh1-421-42

Over the wailing of the frustrated snover it was near impossible to hear anything else, making it even easier for things to get the drop on the group. The drowzee was nearly upon them by the time the faint splash and crunch of melted snow could be heard from the hurried steps of the wild pokémon. Damien was so busy trying to console the ice type that it was Booker her gave the alert for the rest of their party. His warning barks caused all of them to stop and look, the hound squinting through the fog that had suddenly settled upon them. The wind had all but disappeared after reigning victorious over Bearithusa.
[break] [break] "Good boy. Get a lock on whatever it is--" But before he managed to issue the order he was cut off by a loud crash of flailing bushy hands. Still screaming her rage, the snover barrelled through the sodden ground in the direction Booker indicated. It seemed the entire world was against her. Bear pushed passed the faithful canine and began working her winter charm. The clouds overhead darkened, became heavy with hail from her ability. It wasn't long before the icy stones had formed up and began to fall over the area. She raced toward the drowzee's footsteps and began whipping up one of her chilling winds. [break] "Just as we got rid of it too..." the ranger muttered to himself, adjusting his hat and preparing for another spurt of falling rocks to pelt his head. He sighed quietly and laughed to himself. Might as well give her a chance to let out some frustration.

Unfortunately for Drowzee, it appeared that the human figure it was making a move toward had spotted it early enough. In a few moments, Bearithusa was out and ready to fight. Drowzee's psychic perception gave it an idea of what was in front of it, though now that it had settled into a battle the dream eater was starting to realise how limited its 'sight' truly was. It seemed like... a small, moving stump? How curious. Even curiouser, though, was the weather changing out of nowhere as Bear got ready to fight. The clouds overhead rumbled and let loose a powerful hailstorm, which before long displaced the fog entirely. I'm not sure how that works either, but bear with me. Anyway, the now-visible living tree stump quickly made its strength known, with a wintery gust flowing out of Bear's small mouth and straight at Drowzee. The Psychic type's entire body quivered in discomfort as the attack struck it right in the chest. Not only was the earlier 'advantage' now gone, but now the tapir-like 'mon was practically frozen in its tracks. Drowzee could tell easily enough that it was going to struggle to move at all now; hell, it could barely even think in this frigid state. Once the move had died down, Drowzee considered its response. It could only think of one thing. Cold. It was certainly cold. That attack was cold. More cold is not welcome. And thus Drowzee settled for getting rid of the cold. Its eyes glowed a fierce red, with the light resting on Bear's stomach. In seconds, the Snover itself was glowing with that same vibrant red colour. At that very moment, Bearithusa's memory of Icy Wind was as clouded as the air in front of her. How exactly did she perform that move again? The Ice type somehow couldn't work it out. Wild Battle Weather: HAIL. HAIL. TOTALLY HAIL NOW.Wild Drowzee | Level 14 HP: 100% (27/45 HP) Status: -1 Speed Drowzee used Disable! VS

Bearithusa blinked a few times in her lapse of memory. A bushy arm flung forward toward the Drowzee but nothing happened.
[break] "Uhm, Bear?" the ranger spoke, hoping to get a gauge of how well she was willing to listen to him. The snover wriggled her arm ineffectively as she tried to get her previous attack to work again. No dice. "It's not going to work Bear, you're going to have to use something else," came the suggestion.
[break] [break] All of the others in Damien's party had lined up to watch, keeping back by their trainer so as to remain out of Bearithusa's way but also to huddle in and get what shelter they could from the hail stones dropping on their heads. No one was particularly a fan of the extreme winter weather besides the lone ice type in the party. Feeling all his pokémon press in it was hard for Damien not to notice.
[break] "Alright guys just a moment..." he directed to them below, then turned his attention back out to his snover. "Razor leaf instead." The frost tree pokémon drew back her arm and put both 'hands' on her rotund hips with a huff. Eyes glaring icicles at Drowzee as if it was purely responsible for the wind which had destroyed her snowman. She decided Damien's suggestion was good enough considering she was so mad right now she forgot how her own, more friendly, wind worked. With a rustle of her tree-like bod she prepared for round two.
[break] [break] While she was busy taking out her frustrations of the world on the poor wild pokémon, Damien set to recalling the rest of his team so they didn't have to sit around in the hail. If only he could do the same. Perhaps he should invest in an umbrella for these occasions.

The Drowzee had gotten lucky last time by disabling Bearithusa's Icy Wind but that alone would not be enough to turn this battle around. It's limbs were still numb from the first round and the reduced mobility was not doing it any favors not to mention the weather being awful. This next round could very well be it's last as it considered all of it's remaining options but Damien quickly ordered another attack forcing the psychic type to go with the first thing that came to mind and hope it would be enough. As it made up it's mind a pair of razor sharp leaves flew towards it at a high rate of speed creating a small cut across Drowzee's chest before they landed on the ground a few feet away. Barely able to stand at this point the psychic type started to build up it's energy as it's eyes turned a sky blue color with the same color aura surrounding Bearithusa not a moment later. The aura caused Bearithusa a terrible headache while also leaving her a bit dizzy as the attack tried to knock her equilibrium off balance. Luckily for her and unluckily for Drowzee she was able to break free of the energy before the energy could confuse her. Drowzee could not even believe it's eyes knowing it's hopes of winning this battle plummeted by the lack of the damage it was able to cause with the Confusion. As hopeless as things were now the weather could still buy it some time for a miracle and that was all it could hope for after the poor showing it had this round or so it thought. The hail that Bearithusa summoned with her ability swirled towards Drowzee pelting it without mercy. It was so weak from the Razor Leaf it had already taken this round that it caused just enough damage to knock it out. It was not the most exciting victory ever but it was a victory nonetheless. Wild Battle Weather: HailWild Drowzee | Level 14 HP: 0% (0/45 HP) Status: Fainted Drowzee used Confusion! VS

At least it was short lived. Mostly thanks to that annoying hail ability Bearithusa so enjoyed employing in her battles. As the final pebble lobbed the wild psychic pokémon on the noggin the snover crossed her arms and stuck her chin in the air after a nod, as if she was justified in dishing out such a beating to the poor unsuspecting creature.
[break] [break] "Allright, Bearithusa," the ranger called, sighly deeply and approaching the ice type. "I think this has been quite enough excitement for you." Damien crouched next to her and looked her in the eyes. She put a bushy hand behind her head and beamed a smile at her trainer, as if a bit bashful of the fury that she had just unleashed. He knew she wasn't. The pair of them glanced at the broken snowman. "Time to take a break. The snow's melting anyway and I know you don't really like the warm weather." Bearithusa chirped agreement and danced on the spot before the ranger sent her away into her pokéball.
[break] [break] Now alone, he sighed once again. For a bit of relaxation away from the busy city streets this had gotten quite intense. The boy smiled to himself then stood, stretching his back and taking a moment to look at the landscape. Wasn't much he could see beyond the fog unfortunately, just shades of trees and the diffuse bulb that was the sun crossing its zenith.
[break] [break] "Well there's still plenty of time left in the day..." he muttered to himself, bringing a hand to his chin while the other went to a device to rearrange his party. It would probably be best to let someone else take Bearithusa's spot in the party for now, and so Damien reclaimed the sitrus berry she held and switched her with a shinx he'd received from a daycare a while ago. It was probably time to get a bit more acquainted with her, and... his gaze settled on the first pokémon he'd ever captured, mind flashing to the freak out he'd just had with Simourv. Maybe... Maybe Cyrus could help with that.
[break] [break] [break] After everything was taken care of he was feeling rather refreshed, ready to continue exploring the route at a more leisurely pace this time. With a slight bite of his lip he mentally prepared himself for what he was going to be handling next: two birds. The young lad closed his eyes for a moment and nodded. Reaching to his belt he held both Cyrus' and Simourv's pokéballs in hand. Giving both a toss both of the raptors settled on the ground before him, each at first looking to him before noticing the other and changing views.
[break] [break] Cyrus was twice the size of the young rufflet, making the silent avian stare up with a twinkle of admiration at the evolved pokémon. Damien grinned, "Perfect." He was hoping Simourv would take to learning a bit from the older pidgeotto. Maybe then the two could have an easier time bonding. That and literally surrounding himself with bird pokémon he knew he could trust would help the ranger shake off that shivering fear whenever one of his feathered friends fluttered around him.
[break] [break] "Cyrus, meet Simourv." He refrained from divulging his plans, hoping that they would develop naturally. So far so good though, now to just go with the flow. Taking a quiet breath to quell some of the goosebumps forming on his arms he signaled for them to follow him. Of course, that meant taking to the air and circling around. Cyrus made sure to do so a distance away from Damien and remain so in the air, but had to keep closer than usual thanks to the foggy weather. Thus, instead of circling above the pidgeotto went from tree to tree along the route. Simourv had taking to shadowing the elder bird friend, intrigued. He was and watchful as ever.

As Cyrus went from tree to tree along the route the foggy weather was not making his job of scouting out the area any easier. The patches of tall grass offered a good hiding spot even during good weather but in fog like this almost anything could use it to ambush Damien. As Cyrus failed to find anything waiting in the trees a patch of grass began to rustle ever so slightly that neither Cyrus or Simourv noticed until the trainer was mere feet away. The grass went from a slight rustle to a violent one as a Raticate ran out of the grass and squealed at the trainer while stopping right in front of him with a very angry look on it's face. Damien had not realized it but just behind the patch of grass was the Raticate's nest and the rat Pokemon was not very comfortable with a human getting so close to its home nor was it very happy about the two bird Pokemon checking every tree near it's home. It did not trust the wild bird Pokemon as it was but having a trainer's bird Pokemon around only made it all the more uneasy. The Raticate bared it's fangs as it tried to get Damien to back up a bit from it's home while also wanting to teach him a lesson or two about wandering around in such awful weather without causing too much trouble. Even as Cyrus and Simourv saw the normal type Pokemon approach their trainer it was trying no to get into a fight. The so far peaceful meeting however was cut short as the Raticate noticed the shiny Experience Share Simourv was holding, it wanted it as a payment for all the trouble Damien had caused. If the human was not willing to hand it over peacefully it was going to fight for it. The rat felt like it was being generous by only wanting it considering that it could have bit Damien without hesitation but it had held back hoping that its kindness would lead to a better reward than just a battle with him. Raticate (Level 18) would like you to hand over the EXP Share held by Simourv? If you do not wish to hand it over it will not let you escape without a battle. What will you do?
