As she was walking, she heard some Mankey calling above where she stood. She paused and looked up to see where it came from, and was trying to be alert this time. However, after another echo of another Mankey, and a whole bunch of rustling of branches and leaves, it looked like the Mankey wasn't looking for a fight with her. However, she did hear something fell to the ground. It was after a moment of looking around to see through the camouflage of the PIneco blending with fallen leaves and other pinecones to actually see the Pokemon.
"Ooh! A Pineco! Narctar, use Bullet Seed!" She gasped in excitement when she saw the bug Pokemon. It was kind of rare to see one. The grass type twig Pokemon moved forward, and prepared to fire some Bullet Seed as he took a deeeeeeep breath.

With no easy way back up the tree, Pineco had little choice but to battle the trainer before it. It wasn't the best fate for the wayward Pokemon, but it was certainly better than being snatched and bandied about by the furry hooligans that lived in the treetops. Expression inscrutable, the living pinecone made to shimmy forwards with eyes locked on Narctar, unsure of what to make of this spindly creature before it. Narctar was, though he'd never admit it, a little unsure himself of what this Pineco could be packing, but decided it was best not to dwell. After all, he had to do his best, lest one of Penelope's other Pokemon try to usurp his day in the limelight. Inhaling deeply, the Bellsprout made a lunging motion in Pineco's direction and peppered the air with fast-flying seeds.
The first barrage rattled nicely off Pineco's layered body, causing it to start with mild alarm. Before it could react further, Narctar took advantage of the Pineco's confused state to give it another seedy blast. Three more followed in succession, each barrage forcing Pineco right back up against the tree from where it had fallen. Shaking off the seeds that had collected in the nooks and crannies of its shell, Pineco fixed an unmistakably annoyed look at Narctar, silently vowing revenge for not even giving it a moment to breathe during the rapid-fire attacks.
It hopped on over through sheer determination, its slow but steady advance causing Narctar to take a step back in surprise. No, he really didn't like what he saw in the Bug-type's red eyes as it came closer before launching itself unexpectedly at him. It was almost a tackle of sorts, but Penelope's partner let out a loud cry as a hidden set of teeth bit into him, flailing his leaves against the Pineco's body until it finally released him. Hastily putting some space between them, Narctar looked at his foe with a mixture of annoyance and grudging respect. No denying Pineco had some fight in it.

Despite its pinecone camouflage apperance, the bug Pokemon could pack a bite, as evident from the Bellsprout's scream in pain. However, seeing the Pineco daring to be up close to her seed firing Bellsprout made Penelope excited about this rare Pokemon some more.
"Wow... This Pineco looks strong. Hang in there, Narctar! I'm going to catch it!" She commented, as well as cheered for her Pokemon to stay put, in case the bug type retaliated against being captured. She then dug into her bag and looked for a single Pokeball. Swinging her arm up high, she aimed at the camouflage bug and then released her hand. She watched the ball flew through the air and absorbed the Pineco. She watched intensely as she waited for the result.
ooc to mod: that pineco is actually 27% hp btw

The pokéball soared through the air and whapped the stationary pinecone with a loud clang. Pineco was sucked inside the device, the latch securing as the capturing process began. All eyes were on the pokéball as it wobbled back and forth, lobbing this way and that with the soft crunch of needles and brush of the forest floor. One shake... Two shake... POP! A flash of light signaled that the Pineco wasn't quite ready to give in just yet. Its bluish green body beamed back onto the field, its serious eyes steaming back at the much tougher bellsprout. An aggravated hum radiated out from the wild pokémon as it contemplated how it wanted to proceed. Unfortunately for Penelope what it ended up deciding on was terrible. Once again a light lit up in the pine gap, but this time it was caused by the pokémon. Sparkles of light and a bit of a wind began building around it, its angry hum growing in volume simultaneously. Narctar tilted his head as he watched, trying to suss out what the wild pokémon was up to. Then it sparked. With a gasp the bellsprout whipped around and thrust his vines out toward Penelope. He pushed his trainer off to the side behind the safety of a tree. Just in time. A large explosion ripped through the clearing a second later, throwing poor Narctar back into a spiney bush. After the smoke cleared Pineco was no where to be found. It seemed it would rather faint and be left helpless in the wild than be captured by a trainer. Narctar freed himself from the bush, head spinning, but at least Penelope was safe. Narctar gained +1 Happiness

It all happened so fast. The Pokemon popped back out of the Pokeball, and with a quick stare, it glowed bright and made a loud boom. The pinecone Pokemon looked like it exploded or something, and simply disappeared into the thin air. Penelope had to shut her eyes closed from the flash of bright light and cover her mouth from that sudden burst of smoke. Wow, that was... really strange.
But also interesting. So there were Pokemon who could... explode? Penelope was intrigued now. She thanked her Bellsprout for saving her form the explosion, and resumed walking in Ilex Forest. Well, maybe she would like to see another one of these Pokemon again.
