So what starters did everyone pick? Don't forget to also post your choice of Kanto and Hoenn starters as you can also get them throughout progressing through HeartGold & SoulSilver.
For my Johto starter I picked Totodile and haven't used him all that much in truth. I think I got him to Level 16 and as soon as I could trade with other DS games in Violet or Cherrygrove or whatever it was I gave myself my Poison starter set.
For the Kanto starter i'll likely pick Charmander and for Hoenn, Treecko. Keep a sort of reptilian theme running for my choices. ;D

A Cyndaquil, since I've used Totodile exclusively before this, so I thought I'd try something new. I might attempt to get a Squirtle in the near future, but truth be told, I have no want for the Hoenn starter whatsoever.

I've not really got much liking for Cyndaquil or Chikorita myself so, I too, have exclusively used only Totodile. Perhaps I should rectify that one day? They just seem a bit plain for my liking. That and Chikorita and it's family evolutions have an absolutely terrible stat distribution which almost harms it if we're talking about a normal playthrough in the games. Totodile on the other hand has a pretty funky design going on.

I always pick Totodile as my starter, though it doesn't really matter for me cause I just trade for the other two as well and end up having all three. Same with every other region set starters, but if I couldn't do that, I'd still pick Totodile <3
For Kanto I usually pick Squirtle just cause I love water types.
And then Hoenn, I'd have to go with Treecko cause it's one of my childhood pokemon growing up, so instant favorite.

Oh god, oh god... I deviated from my original plan. When I got to Pallet Town and Oak offered me a Pokemon I looked at Bulbasaur and my eyes swelled up. The whole music and experience of reliving picking a Kanto starter made it too hard for me to resist. Bulbasaur was my first ever Pokemon harking back to the days of Red & Blue. I also went for Torchic too as that was my first Hoenn starter. Oh well, all for nostalgia's sake, eh?

I choose Chikorita because that is what I picked in the days of GSC. I always thought Chikorita was really cute for a Pokemon and remained cute through its evolutions. Not that Cyndaquil and Quilava aren't cute either.

I chose Cyndaquil because he is my favorite fire starter out of all of them. There is just something about Typhlosion that stands out to me as a Pokemon. Maybe it's because of the flames on its back, maybe because of canine appeal, I don't know. I used it back in the days of GSC and my love for the fiery guys is still as passionate as ever. If I ever start over I'd probably choose Todadile though. One of the reasons I refrain from it is not because I don't like it, but because it seems...wrong to have my rival use a Chikorita.
I honestly don't know who I will choose for a Kanto starter since they are the only set of starters that I like all of the equally. Either Squirtle or Bulbasaur most likely since I already have a Fire starter. For the Hoenn one I'll probably go with Mudkip.

...it seems...wrong to have my rival use a Chikorita. I agree. Silver would appear to look like the bad-ass type (or try to be). He'd go for what would look to be the most powerful looking Pokemon. Totodile would be the one from the bunch. But if he had to pick between Cyndaquil or Chikorita because you took Totodile, I'd better see him taking Cyndaquil instead.

I chose Cyndaquil in my first run, and Chikorita the second time around to add an edge to it. It never has a type advantage over ANY Gym in Johto - talk about tough, no? I'll likely grab Charmy from dear old Oak when I can, and as for a Hoenn starter? I might go with Mudkip, because Swampert is just beastly. > *shrug* If I get SS, I'll start with Toto, cause he can just rip Johto a new one. *pats her Feraligatr Tobias*

When I get around to collecting te rest of the badges and beating Red, I'll have to choose between Squirtle or Bulbasaur as a starter... I was on the GTS recently and got a Charmander in exchange for a Celfable (good deal!). As for the Hoenn starters... Treeko or Mudkip here. I hear a Pokewalker future release course will let you catch Torchic in it, so I'll hold off for that.

Kanto starter: Charmander! case he becomes a dragon! Jotho starter: Totodile Well I like water types, and he's a big reptile and cool-looking This is a hard one. None of them is really appealing to me. Hoenn starter: Treeko He can do dragon moves! Sinnoh starter: Piplup water, with a nice combo of steel! yea, it's a combination of what i like and how they look ^^

My first play of Green (Japanese emulator version) I grabbed Charmander.
I found it fragile, so when I first tried Blue, I picked Squirtle.
That wasn't much fun for some reason that I no longer remember, so ever after for 1st gen (including for Leaf Green) I picked Bulbasaur, and have always loved the heck out of it.
My first play of Gold, I picked Chikorita. And taught it Fly as a Bayleef because the old carts let you do that. I lol'd. Then I discovered that Totodile turned into this amazing Gojira-croc, so ever after I picked that.
In Crystal, I went with Totodile.
For Ruby, I picked Treecko, because grass yay.
For Emerald, I have always gone with Mudkip, because I actually like Swampert oodles, with its giant fins and whiskers and Popeye arms. It's a very round-edged pokemon.
For Diamond, I picked Chimchar, because I always thought Infernape looked amazing...
...but I went the other way on the hard choice with Platinum when I grabbed Turtwig, because Torterra is almost exactly what I wanted (I really really wanted a grass/rock instead of grass/ground, but hey, you work with what you got). I still like Empoleon enough to pick it. Probably my favorite generation for starters, I like all three a lot.
Black was hard, because my first playthrough I picked Oshawott and really regretted it. Other people like it for various reasons, but somehow in my hands it turned into 'That thing with Scald and Retaliate that is really pretty mediocre.' So I rebooted with Tepig, because Emboar is way more smashtacular compared to the averagemoot that Samurott became.
Come around Gray or whatever it's gonna be, I'll probably stick with Tepig.

To be all honest, I'm a fire lover. I love fire type pokemon, and when I got the games the first time, I usually whent for the fire type pokemon. So Obviously I went for Cyndaquil. I love Totodile, and I'm okay with Chikorita, but when I first played Silver I went for Cyndaquil. I later on tried Totodile and Chikorita, but after trying them I always went back to Cyndaquil.
My kanto starter is always Charmander. Everone chooses Charmander. And then I remember. theres three choices. A million people played the game. Bulbasaur was a frog with a plant on it's back, squirtle was a turtle, and charmander is a lizard that's ON FIRE. so it wasn't like choosing charmander was all that uncommon. To this day I can't pick squirtle or bulbasaur without feeling bad.
My Hoenn starter is Treecko. Although I love fire types, for some reason, when I was playing this game the first time, I picked Treecko. I thought he was intreging and he just looked cool. While he was a Gecko, the fire type, sadly, was a chicken. I enjoyed the thought of a fire flying type, but I guess I wanted that green speedy gecko. I love me some mudkip though. I mean who doesn't.
I don't actually own a copy of HeartGold or SoulSilver. I've played the game, but I never got to play all the way through. I played all the way through Silver though. In wich I own a copy of but had to beat it on an emulator due to some bugs on the cartridge.
