Just north of New Bark Dorthea found a secret place, or not so secret as several other people looked to be enjoying walks in the field. Dorthea and Aglaia had split up for a bit with promises to meet in a few days, and Dorthea had decided to go exploring around New Bark as she had been too busy leaving last time around. At Aglaia's suggestion she had made sure to bring her rod. Water was practically everywhere, and Dorthea had yet to try out the old thing. She followed the river for a bit, looking for a place to sit down along its side, and breathed in the fresh air.
Once she found a place that looked good, she sat down and threw out the line. It felt awkward, and she didn't have any bait, but she figured as practise it was as good a start as any. Aglaia had finally explained to her, why she had even suggested the rod to begin with, and though Dorthea didn't think she needed to practise patience, she respected Aglaia too much not to give it a try. So there she sat getting bored within minutes and tried to be still and quiet. With no bait or blink to catch the fishes attention, she really doubted anything would bite.
After a while she called out Zian and Madam to keep her company. She had only brought the two today, as New Bark seemed fairly innocent when it came to its wildlife. Surely, the three of them could handle anything coming their way. Zian stood a bit unsure by her side, while Madam took a swing out over the river and fluttered around in a circling pattern. The Beautifly seemed to enjoy her wings. Dorthea was even starting to appreciate their beauty. "Relax, Sisi," Dorthea told the Bellsprout in an easy voice. "We are just here to fish and have fun."

The slow moving river was the perfect place for fish to gather. Even the weaker ones could easily find a home in the easy current. And as the bare hook plopped into the water, there was an overall... bland ignoring of it. It would float around for a bit, offering nothing but a little bit of shine. And yet, the lack of any sort of survival instincts would kick in and a Magikarp would shortly after make a beeline for the hook. Just a quick reeling in and she'd have caught her first 'prize'.

When Zian finally 'sat' down and relaxed, Dorthea yawned and tried to be quiet again. She was just thinking about how long she should sit doing this 'fishing' when surprisingly something pulled on her line. With a shout she pulled back and began reeling in, until a Magikarp lay flopping on the ground. She was gasping from the effort and excitement. "Did you see that? I just caught a fish..." She halted and eyed the Magikarp. Now, what to do?
Madam came down carefully, but curious. She was trying to overcome her own nervousness, and it helped a great deal that she knew she could fly away whenever. The Magikarp seemed rather harmless, but when she got close it gave a sudden jerk, and she flew up again scared. Zian watched the proceedings in more wonder, not entirely sure what the deal was, but she certainly wasn't afraid of any fish. She walked forward, curious about the Magikarp too. Out of nowhere a small rock caught one of her roots, and she stumbled. She lashed out with her vines in defence, trying to catch anything to keep her standing.
(Ooc: Madam first, Zian changes in and uses Vine Whip.)
Self-preservation is not the strong point of Magikarp the world over. This one is no exception, its ego inflating as Madam floats away. Hah, flee from the mighty karp! It bounces around with Splash, completely oblivious about Zian's little tumble. The lashing sends the fish flopping along the shore for a moment before it... menacingly Splashes again!

"Come on," Dorthea complained, when Madam got scared of the Magikarp. "It's just a Magikarp!" she called up to the Beautifly, and almost missed that Zian stumbled and accidently hit the fish with her vines. Dorthea felt like hitting herself, and then sighed in resignation. "Oh, well. I guess that's the usual reaction when meeting a wild Pokemon." She looked at the flopping fish and Zian, and considered if she wanted to catch the poor thing. She decided against it with a shrug. She was only practising this fishing and patience thing. It wasn't like she wanted more Pokemon. Better just get it back in the water, but that would mean she would have to get it off the hook, and it wasn't exactly lying still for that. "Alright, Sisi," Dorthea paused, thinking how to go about it. "Hold it still with your vines." She instructed, and walked carefully forward, ready to get it loose as soon the opportunity arose.
Still is relative. At the gentle application of vines, the Magikarp just flops onto its side and stops its floundering about. It's still 'breathing', but certainly has accepted its fate by this point. All that's left is to throw it back and return to your fishing.

As soon the Magikarp surrendered Dorthea bent down and got it loose from her fishing line. "There, there. You are free in a moment," she said in a calm voice, pretending she was talking to Madam. Finally, she could get the fish back in the water, telling Zian to let it go carefully.
Zian was doing her best to move slowly. So far she had only caused trouble when she tried moving faster than slow. Madam came down, calmed by Dorthea's lack of excitement and Zian's 'protection'. She hadn't immediately thought the strange and meak looking grass type could be strong and protecting the same way Squirt was. She didn't even know Zian that much, had barely seen the Bellsprout around. However, she could now see that Dorthea might have made a good choice taking the grass type with them. Madam chittered to Zian in gratefulness, and the Bellsprout blushed.
Dorthea got up from depositing the Magikarp back in the river, and sighed satisfied with a job well done. She checked up on her fishing line, and made sure the 'hook' couldn't hurt anything else wanting to bite today. Then she threw the line out again and sat down to wait. She studied the interaction between Madam and Zian, happy that the Beautifly for once looked interested in another Pokemon on her team. The timid thing had stuck very much with Squirt recently, and it was nice seeing her make new acquaintances.
Perhaps there was something in the water. Or perhaps Magikarp really are as stupid as they are stereo-typed as. Only a few seconds pass after the first one is released before another, much angrier one, latches onto the hook with full intent to pull Dorthea in! But then, they aren't very strong Pokemon, and it's more of an insistent tug along her line.

Dorthea didn't have to wait long the second time around. The line tugged, and Dorthea started to reel it in. It was surely more of a fighter than the last one, but when she got the fish ashore it was just another Magikarp. Dorthea looked at it and her 2 Pokemon. This Magikarp looked more fierce than the first one, though she wasn't sure how she could tell. It was still just flopping around. "Oh, well, we might as well take it on. Sisi, why don't you start with a Vine Whip?" Dorthea suggested.
Zian and Madam had looked closely as Dorthea reeled in the new catch. Madam pulled a bit back, when the flopping fish landed on the ground, hiding partially behind Zian. Zian took a slow step forward and readied her vines at Dorthea's words. She wondered if she was meant to hold it still, like the one before, but Dorthea hadn't said anything about that.
Dorthea squatted down beside the Pokemon, as Zian did her thing, and looked at Madam. "Madam, you have to do something about that confidence of yours. You aren't weak. When Sisi is done here, won't you please take over? I know you can handle this." Madam didn't look sure about it, but she did gave a sort of nod, and Dorthea smiled.
The fish would continue to put on a good show of flopping about in a menacing fashion. That is, until the sudden force of Zian's Vine Whip sent it flying and back into the water. Though it's safe to say that nobody was expecting the sudden critical hit from the lashing delivered to the dumb fish. Oh well~
Zian used Vine Whip and scored a critical hit! Zian has grown to level 14! Zian learned Sleep Powder!
As it turned out, Madam didn't have to take over. Dorthea blinked in surprise when Zian managed to whip the fish back in the water in seconds, and it was clear even Zian hadn't expected that happening. The Bellsprout stood just as crestfallen as Dorthea, and turned ashamed towards the trainer. Dorthea blinked again, and made a sound between a huff and a giggle. "That's alright, Sisi. You are just a bit too strong for the fishes. We'll get another one, and Madam," Dorthea faced the Beautifly, who didn't look all too happy at the attention. "I still want you to face the next one. You are strong too, and I want to show you that."
Madam nodded in acceptance, and fluttered up in the air again. With a good view of the water she could prepare herself in good time for when the next thing got hooked. She kept close just above Zian though, and Zian began moving on the spot in a slow dance, puffing small clouds of dust into the air, like she was practising something. Madam didn't dare ask what.
Dorthea had to accept Madam's nod as the only confirmation that she would do as Dorthea asked. The Beautifly really didn't try to communicate much with Dorthea. Dorthea almost missed Ursula's much more aggresive way in lack of conversation. Zian was odd in this regard too, but at least the two oddballs seemed to get on rather well. Dorthea threw out the line again, and prepared for another wait.
For the moment, it seemed as though the initial frenzy of stupid fish wanting to get at the shiny thing has passed. And another long moment where simply nothing happened. But then, a tug on the hook. Gentle at first, but becoming much more insistent and powerful as time went on. It was likely not easy to reel in, and the sight that followed was of a rather large, orb-shaped thing.

The wait this time was almost unbearable. Dorthea did her best to sit still, while Zian stopped her small powder experiments and just moved slowly and silently around on the spot. The Bellsprout was more quiet than Dorthea, who couldn't help but twitch every now and again, but she managed to not say a word. So much time went by, that even Madam lowered to the ground from her nervous fluttering above Zian's head, and settled down on the ground with the flower between her and Dorthea. Dorthea didn't feel offended by this. She was actually rather pleased by the distance. Madam's colorful wings seemed to have a life of their own, and never really stood still, though their movements were gently and almost unnoticeable in their slowness. However, they did move, and caused a great deal of distraction for Dorthea. The only good part about it was that Dorthea was starting to get accustomed to the movements. It helped, that they were soundless.
Dorthea was in the middle of a yawn, only refraining from giving up because she wanted Madam to win the next one, then a tug pulled in her rod. Dorthea almost yanked it back before she remembered she had to do it slow, unless she wanted the fish to unhook before she even saw the thing. "Something's biting" she announced in a low hiss, and immediately Madam and Zian was on edge. Dorthea started to reel in, having to fight a great deal more than against the two earlier Magikarps. "Oh," She gasped, heaving for air and sweating a great deal after a while. "It's a big... one" A final tremendous effort and the thing was finally in sight. Dorthea bit her lip. "I think you might have to start this, Sisi. Just a quick Vine Whip."
For something so large, the Wailmer is quick to action. Perhaps it simply knew that combat was here, and it needed to defend itself. Perhaps this wasn't its first time being reeled in. All it really knew was that the ol Water Gun should do the trick! However, it's more of a light sprinkling to the Bellsprout, and the returned attack is almost enough to send it toppling back into the water.

Mirella watched Madam closely out the corner of her eye, when Zian got doused in the attack from the relatively big Pokemon. It was easily twice the size of Madam herself, and Dorthea wasn't really sure if she was up to that just yet. However, Dorthea didn't want to back down on her decision either, but she could make it safer for Madam to enter. "Those powder clouds you used before, Sisi? Were that Sleep Powder? Try using that now. Maybe we can get it more docile." she suggested, and Zian took her up on it as fast as she could, though the Wailmer had showed to be faster already. Dorthea gave Madam a look. "You pay attention, Madam. Sisi will give you an easy time this time, if her powder hits."
Madam ducked her head a bit, but nonetheless got into the air to be ready. It gave her the added bonus of avoiding the water splashing on the ground. She flew closer to Dorthea, so she was completely sure to hear Dorthea when any next order came out of her mouth.
