As fog filled New Bark Town's morning, a time-withered scholar arrived at the door of Professor Elm. As Lucian approached the door to the lab, he felt a wall of nostalgia hit his heart. It was so long ago when he first met his old Piplup partner in a town lab just like this one but he remembered it like it was yesterday. Lucian smiled as nostalgic tears welded in his eyes before knocking the door to ask permission to enter the lab.

One of the aids to the professor had been writing a report about the Ilex Forest and its inhabitants when he heard a knock at the door. “Hmmm… who could it be?” The aid walked cautiously to the door, remembering what happened when the red-haired thief had stormed in prior, the man in the white coat hoped it was just a curious trainer seeking information.
The man in the white coat carefully opened the door, seeing someone who looked familiar. “Ahh, you’re one of the elite four members from Sinnoh, yes? Lucian, master of psychic type Pokemon in my memory serves me correctly. What brings you to the lab? If you’re looking for the professor, I’m afraid he’s out right now due to some pressing matters in Mahogany Town, but if you have any questions for me I’d be happy to answer them for you.” The aid smiled, what was this famous trainer doing at the lab? Perhaps he was here to discuss some new developments about psychic Pokemon in a different region, but the assistant really couldn’t put his finger on what this man could be here for.

Lucian quickly wiped his eyes dry and straightened himself when the Lab Assistant replied to the knock. Upon hearing the professor was away, the elite cocked his eyebrow.
"That's strange," he said, a bit confused, "I could have sworn I set up an appointment with him for today. You see, I'm currently working on a personal project involving this region's Pokémon League and I wanted to start from scratch with one of the Pokémon you keep here."
As he spoke, he stepped into the lab and began to notice the lack of Pokémon running about the lab.
"Speaking od which," he said, turning to the assistant, "where are the little guys?"

The aid adjusted his glasses before responding with a light shrug, "I don't know the exact details but it sounded very important. You know how things can suddenly crop up. I'm sure there'd be very little that could drag the Professor away, especially if he knew to expect you." It was the best answer he could give the famous trainer. Luckily there wouldn't be any dwelling on the matter. Lucian quickly offered up the reason for his visit and it brought a sparkle of interest to the aid's eyes.
"Really? You're here to start a pokémon journey? Here?!" He became further excited the more he spoke, a tremble showing in the hand that held his datapad. This would mean they'd be seeing and hearing a lot more from Lucian in the next little while. This was an amazing opportunity! Professor Elm's aid quickly composed himself, passing a beaming smile to the Elite Four representative and waving him further inside. "They're just back here sir."
It was a short walk through the isles of shelving and lab equipment, each burdened with a mass of hard copy data and reference material. No doubt Lucian had already read a select portion of the material, but there was still a plethora of unorganized findings yet to be pieced together that the psychic trainer could likely have a field day with. The aid brought Lucian to a room in the back with a large patio door and filled with pokémon comforts. Sitting inside were the three starters, each doing their own thing. "Here you go! These were generously donated to us by Professor Oak as, well, not too long ago there was a theft in the lab. We've got it mostly handled but the starters Elm prefers to give out were either stolen or badly shaken up so these three will be your choices today," explained the aid.
"Bulbasaur." He pointed to the bulbous pokémon nested in a soft bed staring out the window.
"Squirtle." The aid indicated the turtle busily playing away in a little obstacle course across the room.
"And Charmander." The final pokémon was also lazing about, though it had climbed atop a hand crafted play house and was seated on the chimney.
"Which would you like to take with you?"

Lucian giggled a little at the sudden joy the aid felt at his journeh taking place here.
"I know I'm well known back in Sinnoh," he said, attempting to calm the aid down as they walked toward the area where the Pokémon were, "but I honestly thought I was a little less known here."
When the aid mentioned the break in, Lucian. showed his sympathy.
"Poor little guys," he said, "let's hope somebody bring that villain to justice soon."
They approached the Pokemon area and Lucian almost immediately toon a liking to the Squirtle. Water starters were his thing when he was lad, so he figured the experience would help in raising the little tortoise.
"Well," he said, giving a smile, "aren't you the little ball of sunshine."
The Squirtle smiled back, knowing where this was going. He gave Lucian a hug to make a good first impression.
"Looks like I'll be taking this one," Lucian said to the aid before turning his attention back to the Squirtle.
"Does the nickname 'Hawey' bother you at all?"

The lab aid smiled broadly seeing the famous trainer already bonding with one of the starting options. "Great! Squirtle is a wonderful companion, very lively but not unruly like some..." Though Lucian had already turned away to gaze back at the turtle the aid passed a look to the charmander lazily drooped on the chimney of the playhouse. The fire type opened one eye, knowing just who the comment had been directed at, then closed it again without a bother.
With Squirtle named the assistant gave a quiet sigh of relief. However, just as he opened his mouth the lights went out. He blinked, looked up at the ceiling, then out the door they'd come in. "Oh dear, looks like we might have a rattata problem again." He chuckled as he turned his attention back onto Lucian.
"It's no big deal, just sometimes the little critters get in and find a wire. The system can handle it but, as you can see, that means losing power until we fix the problem," the man explained. "I better go deal with it, I trust you can make it out of the lab on your own?" It was rhetorical. The aid gave a friendly wave to the new pair then walked out of the room.
All that was left was for Lucian to truly start his journey.

Lucian and Hawey left the lab in a timely manner, traversing through the darkened hallway and taking the occasional peek at notes that interested the trainer. As they left the building, Hawey began to catch the falling snow with his tounge. Lucian couldn't help but find this adorable. Suddenly, a thought came to mind.
"Hey Hawey," he said, searching his bag and pulling out a Rare Candy, "look what I got."
Hawey gazed excited at the treat before grabbing out of the air which Lucian threw it into. The Squirtle flexed the muscles his tiny little arms and envisioned them having little Gaster Blasters going off inside, not noticing the Mistletoe Lucian had put on his head. Fotunately, Hawey did not mind it. He knew that great power comes at a price and that this was the discount.
"Here we are, little buddy," Lucian said as they arrived in Route 29, "the first step in a brand new adventure for both of us."
Hawey nodded in agreement and the two began their journey.

Newly invigorated with an expensive candy, and nicely warmed by the mistletoe set upon his head, Hawey wasted no time in stumbling forward through the snow filled route in search of his first opponent. He was itching to do something, excitement welled up from sitting by windows and just watching the outside. Now he was here! With a trainer of his own to boot. Lucian wanted to get the genuine basic trainer experience. It wouldn't be long before the journey kicked into gear. As the turtle scuttled through the snow peering through the bushes lining route 29 for a battle, someone else came up quite enjoying the light flakes wafting down from the sky. Their approach was first signaled by a hum. Nothing too musical. Just an oscillating tune that, once they were spotted, was in time with how they were spinning. And it wasn't a who but a wild pokémon. A rare one at that. Spinda was dancing its way through the thicker bits of snow. Spinning and whirling like no other being could possibly manage should they be anything other than the spotted bear species. It was throwing up flakes with its hands and catching others in the air. When it got close to Lucian it didn't even stop. Unconcerned with his presence it just continued spinning by in its uneven pattern leaving quite the odd trail through the snow. Though, it was interrupted when Hawey jumped in the way, excited for an encounter, and ended up colliding with the wild pokémon. They bopped noggins and both fell back. Spinda squeaked with surprise as it stumbled, now just standing in a spot jittering like an unbalanced drunkard. Spinda (LV 3) appeared! ((Updating word count - 3,455))

Lucian quickly noticed the Spinda and Hawey's little run in and prepared for battle. However, before the battle began, a Spring fog rolled in. This would make things a tad more complicated, but Lucian feared not.
"Don't worry about the weather, Hawey," he said, "just use Tackle. Just don't knock him out. Pacifism is key."
Hopefully, if all went well, Lucian would be able to catch this little guy and continue his quest for pacifist clarity.

(NB: The weather is set when the encounter's rolled, so the fog's not in effect here.)The tottering Spinda wasn't quite sure what was going on, watching Lucian and his partner while trying to maintain its balance all the while. Hawey stepping forward didn't appear to clue in the spotted panda either, as it just stayed put. Perhaps it was too focused on keeping its own feet in order, or perhaps it was still young and naive. Either way, it wasn't until Lucian's Squirtle charged forward, head bowed, that Spinda started to prepare itself for a fight. The drunk-looking bear raised its arms in a feeble "combat" pose, idly drifting from left to right. Moments later, the Normal type would be knocked off its feet as Hawey finally made contact, sending Spinda across the remainder of January's snow. Picking itself up, Spinda shot a disapproving glare at Lucian while it shook a lump of snow off of its ear. That was cold, thought Spinda. Very cold. It didn't much care for that at all, in fact. It brushed its foot across the floor, almost tripping itself in the process, trying to clear the ground of the white stuff. After it had made itself a nice little circle of greenery, Spinda slowly ambled toward Hawey and threw itself at the Squirtle. Despite a lack of pace, the little critter managed to knock Hawey onto his back for a brief second. The Water type squeaked in surprise before righting himself, ready to continue. Wild Battle

As the battle raged on, Lucian had been preparing for his first step in his mission of Poké-Pacifism by holding a Great Ball behind his back. As each of the combatants turns ended, Lucian chucked the Great Ball at the Spinda.
"Come on, little guy," he thought to himself, "Accept my mercy."
Hawey sighed in relief as the Great Ball began its tussle with the Spinda. He enjoyed a good fight, but there was always the matter of fair leveling. Not to mention the fact that the only other Pokémon in Lucian's party would have overkilled the poor guy.

(For the record, egg word count's now up to date - 3630. I totally didn't forget to update the last time... >_>)The ball soared across the battlefield, making contact with its target and breaking open immediately after. Feeling the impact from the ball, Spinda's feet slipped across the snow as it lost its balance. Fortunately for the panda, before it could hit the floor it was scooped up by Ray's Great Ball. The blue orb dropped to the white floor, juddering wildly while its captive tried to break loose. It wriggled around once... Twice... And... Ping! With a light ringing sound, the ball ceased moving. Spinda was captured.

Another sigh of relief came from Lucian as the Spinda was quickly spared and captured. Of course, he remembered to thank Hawey for his assistance in the matter. "There's a good lad," he said, patting the Squirtle's lad, "Now let's see what other new friends we can make around here." Hawey nodded in agreement with Lucian and they continued on their merry journey. Hawey hoped the Spinda they just caught was a bit nicer than the Grimer recently won back at that auction thing. egg word count: 3729/6000 SpindaName: Xioriel Gender: Female Level: 3 Moves: Tackle Ability: Tangled Feet Nature/Personality: Gentle/before meeting Lucian, Xioriel was the mother of two cubs. With Spinda safely stored away, Lucian and his team could continue on their search for yet more partners. The skies had cleared up nicely since the beginning of their last encounter, with not a cloud in sight now. The spring sunshine bared down on the Sinnoh Elite as he and his Squirtle wandered across Route 29 once more. Of course, the local Pokémon would have noticed the break in the weather too, and it was quite evident at a glance. The wildlife had come out in force now, plaguing the Route with their combined presence. Pidgey and Spearow flew overhead in flocks upon flocks, while a herd (if that's even the right collective noun) of Rattata was just about visible through some nearby foliage. They appeared to be searching for some food, whiskers standing on end as they sniffed around the bushes. As Lucian passed by, though, the Normal types backed off a little. Well, all but one. One of the frontmost rats seemed to have found something interesting and burst on forward. Teeth piercing a small Oran Berry, the Rattata careered forward and straight out of the cover of the plantlife before smacking straight into Lucian's heel. The spherical object burst apart on contact with the Psychic specialist, exploding and leaving a large helping of Oran juice on his trousers. Rattata shook off the initial shock, cursing itself for misjudging its speed, and looked straight up at the obstacle it had unfortunately crashed into. Its heart sank as it realised what it had just done. There was nothing for it though. Seeing a human meant battle was inevitable. Besides, it had that nice Oran B- wait. Rattata realised that its delicious fruit was missing. It took a moment to process what had happened; its face so focused that Lucian could almost hear the cogs working in its brain. In little time, the rodent recalled the fate that had befallen its snack. Well. The Normal type quickly grew visibly frustrated. It really was quite hungry. Of course, it wouldn't have been if it wasn't for that human. And its leg. Crushing Rattata's berry. Rattata gave as menacing a bark as it could (which wasn't all that 'menacing' in reality), glaring up at Lucian. This homo sapiens would pay for its insolence. How dare it be in the wrong place at the wrong time!

Suddenly, Lucian felt a wetness hit the left leg of his trousers. Turning around, he saw a Rattata with the shattered remains of an Oran Berry.
"What a pity," Lucian thought, "let's see if we can fix this."
Summoning Spinda from her new pokeball, Lucian gave her an Enigma Berry. Pointing at the Rattata to signal who the berry was for, Spinda looked worriedly at Lucian but still approached the little rodent with the peace offering. Whether or not this was a good idea was up for debate.
