Side Quest: Ilex Forest
Important: Please note that while travelling through Ilex Forest, your Pokémon will not be automatically healed after each battle so stock up on Potions! If all Pokémon faint in your party, forest spirits will teleport you back to the Azalea Pokécenter.
The Ilex Forest Side Quest consists of two parts; one compulsory and one optional.
Mandatory: Wild Goose Chase
Sylvester is having grave difficulty controlling his father's Farfetch'd. When asked to chop down trees for wood, the unruly pair disappear off into the forest, leaving Sylvester helplessly alone. Without any Pokémon, he is unable to stray too far into the forest, which locals say is haunted by hostile spirits. How can he return to his father in disgrace and how can he ever aspire to be a trainer without the trust and respect of his Pokémon?
Talk to Sylvester and receive a clue about the Pokémon's whereabouts. Find and bring back the two Farfetch'd fugitives in return for HM01 Cut. Don't forget that you must post in each thread/scene that you come across at least once to show that you've passed that area.

Upon completion of this part of the quest you must then teach Cut to an eligible Pokémon and chop down a cuttable tree in order to progress through Ilex Forest. From here, it is not required that you complete the second half of the quest and you may make your way to the exit.
Note: When searching for Farfetch'd in a particular location, the Farfetch'd will appear as the first Pokémon encounter. Otherwise a different Pokémon will appear. The Farfetch'd are not restricted to the same regions and can roam (usually on a fortnightly basis).
Optional: Forest's Blessing
Restrictions: Party Maximum LV 29
An old folk tale recounts the day that a young girl from a pioneer family in Azalea ran away from home on the eve of her fourteenth birthday. Flora was her name and many believed that she had been haunted by the wanton destruction of Ilex Forest and could no longer live with her family of lumberjacks.
As the years passed by, the destruction of Ilex Forest seemed inevitable as the forest trees yielded a commodity prized by the whole of Johto. However, rumours of the forest being alive with spirits slowly began to spread amongst the locals as fatal accidents started to happen to those who sought to exploit the forest for profit. Some lucky enough to survive these misfortunes tell of a ghostly manifestation of Flora and the guardian Pokémon of the forest patrolling the woods, vanquishing corrupted souls. Slowly, the number of loggers dwindled and the forest grew back in abundance. In fact, so successful was this rejuvenation that the forest canopy transformed into a thick, impenetrable veil and thick fog pervaded among the forest trunks as though the tortured souls of wicked men continue to linger in the place which brought upon their demise.
The spirit of Flora drifts restlessly along the shores of Lake Ilex, troubled by the appearance of a strange Grass Pokémon not native to the forest. The Pokémon is suffering from a deadly poison that does not seem curable by traditional means and appears to be on the brink of succumbing to the unknown toxin.
The only hope for this Pokémon is a trainer with enough courage to brave the perils of the forest and enough nous to find the hidden forest shrine, rumoured to be the sanctum of the forest guardian. This mysterious guardian has the sole power to heal the Pokémon of its poison.
However, the spirits of evil men still haunt the forest and can sense the pain and suffering of an injured soul. Beware of their attacks. There will be many twists and turns along the way and finding the guardian spirit may not be as straightforward as it first appears.
Note: When travelling through the forest during the quest, any wandering spirits must be battled. However, if the ghost in the area has been vanquished, they will not attack again.
