After Tyler completed his most recent mission he knew he had to hide for a while as even if the officer he defeated kept his mouth shut that Mr. Dig would probably rat him out. Sure Team Rocket might be able to force him to make TM's for them but as Tyler was only a recruit they would not do much to protect him if the man was able to provide a sketch to try and catch him. As he was tired of the Dark Cave Tyler decided to make a quick pit stop to the Pokemon center to swap out Glock for Poltergeist as he was looking for the right moment to raise the young Gastly and his current plan might be the perfect time to give it a chance to show what it could do.
After making the switch he made his way to the Ruins of Alph hearing a number of odd Pokemon lived there and that it might be a good place to escape any search the police might try as few trainers would hide in such a popular tourist spot. He knew from a brochure he once read that there were multiple chambers but in particular he was interested in the first one as it was the one believed to house the biggest collection of odd Pokemon. As he stepped inside he could see walls covered in symbols that looked like Unown a Pokemon he had only heard about but never seen. In the back of the room however there was an inscription that looked like it contained a word of some kind and Tyler studied it for a moment.
" I think these Unown symbols are a clue to something, I only have the images I saw in the brochure to go by but each one looks similar to a letter in the Alphabet so it should not be too hard to figure out." After slowly working out each of the letters he thought he knew what he had to do next. " I bet if I use an Escape Rope I can go down this hole next to the inscription." As he slid down the rope he landed in a small tunnel with a dim light at one end. Not seeing any other way out he followed the light and came upon a clearing with a lot of tall grass. If the rumors of odd Pokemon living here were true this area had to be where they lived. Even as the moon barely shined through the clouds Tyler was not going to let the reduced line of sight get in his way of encountering the odd Pokemon.
As he waited he decided to finally use his TM for Flamethrower on Flint so the lizard Pokemon would be able to pack even more of a punch.
OOC: Using the Escape Rope to enter the secret area and waiting for an encounter while activating Bicycle mode. Swapped out Glock the Bronzor for Poltergeist the Gastly. I updated Tyler's party and PC. Also using TM35 Flamethrower on Flint as he forgets Ember to learn Flamethrower. Finally setting this during the night so Tyler's Dusk Ball's will be more useful.

Tyler clambered through the secret passage way and into the clearing which was dimly lit by moonlight poking through thick cloud cover overheard. Something fast fluttered in front of him, its movements so quick it appeared to teleport back and forth. It finally settled long enough on the ruined altar in the middle of the clearing for Tyler to make out what it was; a wild Natu! A Wild Natu appeared (level 9)! Shiny Check:d2N2EjEM1-421-42

Tyler was not entirely sure exactly sure what he should make of Natu as it certainly looked weird enough that it could be one of the strange Pokemon rumored to live in the secret grass patch. " Well that certainly is the weirdest looking bird Pokemon I have ever seen, I bet it would not even serve as an appitizer for Mania but Poltergeist might just be able to prove his usefulness here." He did get the feeling that there was more than met the eye so Tyler was going to try and be sneaky as well. He was not going to let the bird escape if he had any say in the matter.
" Poltergeist I want you to act as bait for me here so I can try and get my idea to work. The Dusk Balls I have will be far more effective at night and you are a pretty inviting target for that Natu but I do not need you to harm it in any way." Poltergeist had no real idea what he was doing as he had never seen life outside of the daycare and barely knew what a Pokeball was. Even do the specter Pokemon obeyed Tyler's orders and floated towards Natu wondering exactly why it needed to get close when it felt far safer closer to Tyler.
Once he was in position Tyler grabbed one of his Dusk Balls and got ready to toss it at the avian Pokemon while it focused on Poltergeist. " Good job acting as bait Poltergeist, just stay there a bit longer and then it will hopefully all be over without you getting hurt yet. I do not need you getting messed up too badly before you grow stronger first so you will be more useful." Tyler then tossed a Dusk Ball as Mania popped out of her Pokeball and snarled at the thought of capturing another weak Pokemon but there was not any better iption to try and raise Poltergeist at his current level during their search.
The rest of Tyler's Pokemon were indifferent about capturing Natu though Flint wanted to try out his Flamethrower attack. It was way more powerful than Ember was but he understood it would be some time before he would get that chance. As the ball closed in on its target Tyler cracked his knuckles and looked at Poltergeist ready to torture the young spirit if he waivered in any way until he was finished with his task.
OOC: Poltergeist is sent out. Tyler tosses a Dusk Ball. I am updating myself. Bicycle mode is still on.

The Dusk Ball caught the wild Natu by surprise as it was obscured by the darkness of the night. The tiny bird was sucked inside where it struggled to escape. Despite the greater than eighty percent chance of capture under these conditions, the Natu somehow found a way to break free from the confines of the ball! Once free it took one look at Poltergeist the Gastly and was terrified. The wild Natu teleported away! Natu teleporting away did not thrill Tyler but as it was a cowardly act he was sort of glad to not have to put up with it. He knew he would get the chance to capture a braver one at one point but for the time being he was hoping he would encounter a different Pokemon that could not run away while it was still dark so his dusk balls would be at their prime usefulness. " Our luck may have been rotten this time but sooner or later we will get lucky again, for now lets see what other Pokemon live here. We need to snag some useful ones so we can sell them for big bucks."
The strange area just had to be hiding some useful Pokemon for him to sell and Tyler would not miss out on a big payday. As they waited for another Pokemon to come out a small gust of wind made all of the surrounding grass sway and Tyler hoped the wind shaking the grass would draw out another Pokemon as he grabbed another Dusk Ball. He had not brought as many as he probably should have but he was going to make do with what he brought to try and earn as much money as he could. As he found a Dusk Ball and held it in his hand the cries of more Pokemon could be heard in the grass and Tyler wasted no time in looking for the source.
" Let's keep looking in the grass for another target, with any luck we can find a good one we can breed or sell for big bucks so I can get better gear until I get promoted by headquarters. Poltergeist be ready for whatever we encounter but hold your fire until we know what it is first." He snarled as the young Gastly prayed to Arceus that bad luck would not strike twice.
OOC: Waiting for another encounter.

The grass rustled near Tyler and his Gastly with the added assumption that another wild Pokemon may be the one they were both just looking for. As the footsteps grew louder and louder, a head would poke out from the blades of the grass itself which resembled a beagle. Perhaps it was just a stroke for both Tyler and his Gastly that this bipedal beagle-like Pokemon showed itself to the duo as it would come out to meet them. "Smeargle?" The wild Pokemon seemed to be highly curious at first, but that curiosity turned to annoyance as its quiet painting time was interrupted by those two. Smeargle's tail would swish back and forth as it carried its own canvas made out of cardboard, green paint was oozing from it. The wild Pokemon set down the canvas it was painting on before loudly declaring its own annoyance. "Smeargle! Smeargle!" From its Pokemon speech, it was highly aggravated by this turn of events. Overall, it would prepare itself for battle as it held its own tail which still had paint dripping from the tip. A wild Smeargle (Level 10) has appeared! Shiny Check: LAQomO2B1-421-42

The odd looking Pokemon that appeared intrigued Tyler quite a lot as it was not quite like any of the other Pokemon he had seen up to this point. It was apparently addicted to painting and not a fan of his intrusion but Tyler was not about to let it be as a creative Pokemon such as itself might just be worth a good amount of money if he could capture it. As Poltergeist was about to face the Pokemon Blitz suddenly busted out of its ball and started to study the new Pokemon quite curious as to what it was and why it liked to paint so much.
Tyler got an idea as a result of this as he did not want to knock out the strange Pokemon and Blitz had the perfect combo it could pull off to make it as easy as possible to capture while the night was still young. " Blitz for once your timing is fantastic, I want you to weaken our new friend here so that I can capture it and I believe we have a great combo we can try to do just that." He began to chuckle as the magnet Pokemon waited for its orders as his plan was both sneaky and rather cruel for a younger Pokemon to endure.
" I want you to use Thunder Wave followed by Sonicboom so that this Smeargle will offer as little resistance as possible. If my plan works we can try and capture it shortly afterwards." Blitz then started up the first of the two attacks praying nothing would go wrong for its sake.
OOC: Blitz uses Thunder Wave then Sonicboom. Running Shoes are now exhausted for this battle.

As the Magnemite carried out the first order with little hesitation, a wave of electricity successfully made its mark, and the wild Smeargle became paralyzed. While it was still watching the Magnemite, the iron magnetic Pokemon unleashed gray sound waves towards the wild Pokemon, thankfully it had little chance of missing its target. The Smeragle fell back on its butt as the sound waves made it crash near the grassy patch it came from with ease in which cracks of electricity still accompanied the afflicted Pokemon. An an artist, it valued with trying to paint a canvas of artistic attacks, so it was able to beat the odds of paralysis as it used its own white canvas to sketch the same move Blitz had used last time. It was in a weakened state though, so its painting ability was somewhat shaky as it narrowed its eyes at the opposition in front of him. Tyler was thrilled as his combo he thought up not only worked as planned but it worked a little too well. As the Smeargle did not get a chance to copy Blitz's first move the artist Pokemon did not get to cause any damage. The one thing that was not great was that Smeargle now could use Sonicboom against any of his Pokemon now and Tyler did not want to risk having Blitz knocked out while trying to capture Smeargle. Just then another great idea popped into his head as he realized he could turn the awkward situation in his favor by switching out Blitz for Poltergeist.
" Good job Blitz, you proved you are useful from time to time, now return so I can let Poltergeist serve as bait for SMeargle." As he swapped out Blitz for Poltergeist he knew the spirit would be safe as SMeargle could not hit him with Sonicboom thanks to his immunity to normal type attacks. It was not his bravest plan but it was a smart one and with no risk to his Pokemon Tyler could focus on trying to capture the Smeargle with no real risk. He grabbed a dusk ball from his backpack and got ready to toss it.
" Go Dusk Ball, capture that Smeargle" He yelled as he watched the ball fly towards the normal type.
OOC: Swapping out Blitz for Poltergeist as he will be immune to Sonicboom. Tyler tosses as Dusk Ball. Updating the ball myself.

The magnemite evaporated back into its ball, and Poltergeist the Gastly was swapped in. Just as predicted, the smeargle swiped its tail rapidly in the air, the paint almost hanging in the air for a second before exploding in a loud "BOOM!" as the sonic boom burst forward. The gastly floated in the air, completely unaffected. Tyler threw the dusk ball, and it flew through the air towards the Smeargle who it attempted to swat away the ball with its tail.... to no avail. As the ball made contact with the smeargle's tail, popped open, and sucked the painter pokémon into it. The ball fell to the ground, gently rocking in place. The loud boom of the sonic boom a stark contrast to the current silence, where you could simply hear the sound of the dusk ball softly rocking in place. Twitch .... Twitch .... Click! Smeargle was caught!Poltergeist gained 3 levels and is now level 10! Would you like to replace a move with Mean Look? Blitz gained 250 experience points! They now have 1149/2269 XP.

After seeing the dusk ball come to a stop Tyler was beyond pleased with the result. He had never even encountered a Smeargle before now and he was going to put it to good use to produce eggs he could sell. " Excellent, breeding this Smeargle will be a very profitable venture indeed. This cannot be the only useful Pokemon here but it was a great first haul. Good job acting as bait Poltergeist, you were quite useful for once." He then popped the knuckles in his hand as he started to search for something else he could capture. As happy as he was after capturing the odd Pokemon it was not enough to satisfy his cravings and he was going to keep trying his luck until he ran out of Pokeballs. With the night still young he had plenty of time to try and make use of his final Dusk Ball if he encountered something useful before the end of the night. " Lets keep looking for more Pokemon to capture, we need to make up for the money I spent buying that Escape Rope to get here." He snarled before looking through the grass hoping for any sign he could find of another Pokemon. OOC: Looking for another encounter. For a while the quiet of the night was uninterrupted. In the distance you could hear running water, and a breeze was rustling with the leaves in the old trees growing out and up of the ruins. From the nearest tree something skittered about suddenly that didn't sound like leaves in the wind at all, and something red and round hopped down low to the ground. Another Natu had been overcome by curiosity at the unusual commotion tonight, and was having a look and Tyler. Wild Encounter Weather: Clear? Tyler was not as thrilled by the next encounter as he was by the previous one. As the last Natu had escaped from him he was still peeved by the species but at the same time it did not seem to be very rare and Tyler questioned whether or not it was worth the effort to capture it. " Another one of these blasted birds? I only have a single Dusk Ball left before I will have to rely on my Great Balls to capture anything else I can find but I guess you will be worth the risk if only because you look somewhat cool."
Poltergeist did get stronger since his last encounter with a Natu and Tyler felt he would make the perfect distraction for the bird as he tried to capture it. Having learned of their teleportation abilities in the last battle he could not afford to weaken the bird before tossing a ball but Poltergeist could still gain some experience if he could get a lucky single turn capture. " Poltergeist you are up again, you did not do too badly last time as a punching bag and you are perfect to play that roll yet again for this Natu."
The ghostly Pokemon could only sigh as it got into position still not able to show off what it could do in a real battle. Though the situation was not ideal for the specter it was going to keep doing everything it could to please Tyler as he got ready to toss his last Dusk Ball. " Poltergeist are you ready? The moon is shining above giving this Dusk Ball a boost in power which should help us out but I still need you to distract that bird. Scare the living daylights out of it with your charming face and maybe we will get lucky."
Poltergeist suddenly summoned a Cheshire grin on his face trying to unnerve the bird as Tyler flung the ball mere seconds after the disturbing sight. As soon as the ball was close to the bird Poltergeist finally returned his face to normal and looked back at Tyler hoping he would receive praise for his efforts but Tyler was too concentrated on the ball to give the ghost any credit at all. Poltergeist was hardly surprised by his trainer continuing to be rude but by now he knew it was something that would happen far more frequently than he would like. He hoped that if the capture was successful that Tyler might be a bit kinder for all his effort.
OOC: Poltergeist is sent out. Tyler uses a Dusk Ball. It is still night time so the capture bonus will take effect.

The bird blinked by Tyler's exclaim, it seemed like it understood what he was saying, or at least understood his mood. Perhaps it knew about the other natu teleporting away? Its eyes glazed over a moment as it looked closer at Tyler and when it blinked and became aware of its surroundings it seemed like it knew something new. It became unnatural calm for it species who was quick to get spooked and flee, and while it did look nervous when Poltergeist appeared, and flinched when he grinned wickedly, it did not move from its place on the ground. It watched resignedly as the dusk ball flew through the air towards it, and it sighed just before it slammed hard into its side and sucked it in. It wiggled once.. It wiggled twice.. Poltergeist was beyond relieved to hear the Dusk Ball click shut. He did not want to face Tyler's wrath by letting another Natu escape and he was spared this time at least. Tyler did not even say a word as he was far too busy debating whether or not to leave as so far neither of the Pokemon he had encountered were that special but he could feel it in his bones that a few more Pokemon had to live here given how remote it was so for now he decided to stick around and hope for something a bit more interesting to show up. " With that Natu captured were are one step closer to completing the Pokedex but more importantly we should be absl to sell it's eggs for a small profit. Still there must be something better around here and we are not leaving until we find it." The night was still young and Tyler still had a single Dusk Ball to take advantage of if he found anything else good and Poltergeist had gotten stronger as well so the trip was not a waste so far even if it had been underwhelming. As Tyler searched the tall grass for another Pokemon Poltergeist started to feel a bit odd before firing two dark beams into the grass from his eyes causing Tyler to pause for a moment. " Oh good it looks like you learned Night Shade, that will help if we run into anything else useful as it is a move that only causes a set amount of damage. With my usual luck we need to rig the dice as much as we can in my favor and that will be a very useful way to do so." Just then a patch of grass started to rustle nearby and Tyler got ready to battle yet again hoping for a decent Pokemon yo come out. " Poltergeist get ready to act as the decoy again, we do not want to knock out whatever is coming just in case it is a Pokemon we have not encountered yet." As he stood by ready to give the attack order he anxiously awaited whatever was about to jump out. Poltergeist on the other hand just hoped it would be another easy battle so he would not have to face much of a beating from either it or Tyler but only time would tell if he would get lucky again or not.
