The spring day started off with a warm touch. It had a hidden touch of heat that krept up on you, making things feels just slightly uncomfortable after an extended period within its presence. Thankfully, a gentle breeze played lazily across New Bark Town, lulling about. When it would slip up with a quick puff it might actually feel relaxing, but mostly it went by unnoticed. Cirroculumus lacunosus clouds dotted the open skies on the horizon in a patchwork of wispy puffs.
Zaiden stepped out of the Pokemon lab, holding his newfound Pokemon teammate in his hands. His dark chocolate irises stared at the red and white Pokeball and studied the small black ring that wrapped around its center. A small white button sat in the middle, staring back at the mousy brown haired boy as he quietly observed the device. A new journey was unfolding before his eyes. The lithe and lanky trainer stood still as he remained lost in thought, contemplating releasing the Charmander and keeping it confined within it's spherical home.
Wha....what will I call you? He wondered to himself as he studied the Pokeball intensively. He titled his head to the side. Zaiden allowed a heavied puff of air to escape his lips as he huffed and sighed. His bottom lip lingered for a second, leaving his mouth open and agape. His eyebrows furrowed in frustration as his hands trembled. Zaiden's mind was abuzz with thoughts and with them, several undetermined emotions played out underneath the layers.
Charred....No. Charred, the Charmander? Cinder? Ugh! His feet rhythmically started to move. Zaiden's eyes remained fixated on the Pokeball trapped between the palm of his tawny beige hands as he ambled in no particular direction. Flame?...No! Ember? Flare? Fire?! TORCH!? He glanced up for a second and redirected his steps towards the west end of New Bark Town, so that he could at least head in the direction of the forest. What do I call you? He thought. Sadness darkened his expressions as his lips softened in a halfway frown and his eyes dimmed.
Zaiden pushed his way into the entrance of Route 29. Bundles of thick tall grasses dotted the land on Route 29. Tall ledges seem to block certain paths. They directed the young traveler's steps by requiring him to go around their stretches or to try and climb over them. Zaiden shook his head as he stared at the first ledge bordered by a dense patch of trees. He turned on his heels south, to a thick patch of grass, and pressed his luck as he pushed through the tall green leaves as they tickled his legs. I wonder what me and little Charmander will see first....Kirin? Nah. Karol? Charcoal?

Despite the new season being only a few days old, the recent stretch of balmy weather had rejuvenated the countryside along Route 29. Where once matted yellow stalks stood covered in piles of snow, the grass had now exploded into thick green bundles reaching desperately towards the sun. Blushes of colour dotted these vibrant fields marking the presence of tight flower buds on the verge of blooming. A Pidgey and Kricketot chirped a dissonant duet nearby and the world seemed peaceful and new again.
As Zaiden waded through the sea of green agonising over the name of his new traveling companion, a face suddenly bobbed up above the turf. It was a furry brown creature with small beady black eyes and tall ears which swayed in rhythm to the blades of grass, its movements orchestrated by the gentle breeze. The Pokemon squeaked quite loudly upon seeing the human and behind it the grass rustled energetically as a pair of critters seemed to dash away. However, the scout stared at Zaiden frozen in fear, anxiously surveying the trainer for signs of hostility.
A wild Sentret (level 3) has appeared!
(( OOC: Please note, for our new players we have a Bicycle Mode. You may request to turn this off/on at any time. By default we consider it on but it means you can get some quick replies in. Good for training especially early on! ))
The young lad's mind burdened itself with name suggestions. One after the other, Zadien would reject each suggestion as soon as they blossomed. Most of the suggestions seemed too plain or ordinary, and several more were simply unoriginal. A Charmander named Cinder? One named Burned or Singed? Who hasn't already named their Charmander that?! Plus, Zaiden had to consider a name that still suited the bipedal orange lizard Pokemon once it fully evolved into the large and impressive, winged dragon like Pokemon, Charizard. Flare the Charmander is cute, but Flare the Charizard? Would you even take him seriously? He wondered to himself, as he muddled over different internal suggestions.
The mousy brown haired boy's ears picked up the shuffling of grass and leaves on the route's floor. Zaiden refocused his eyes on the route ahead of him, redirecting his mind off of the all-encompassing thoughts of exactly what he would name his Charmander. Something dashed off into the wilderness as soon as the boy had neared the area. Were they Pokemon, too? Perhaps something as intriguing as a Salandit? Or as cool as an Onix? The latter seemed implausible, given the overall size of the darting forms. Zaiden assumed the unknown critters to be rather small - but what did he really know? Enough?
One lone Pokemon remained, frozen by anticipation and fear. Zaiden observed the short, cycloidal rabbit like Pokemon with long dark brown ears and a bushy brown striped tail that stood rigid in its spot. His mouth dropped into a small 'o' shape as his eyes softened. Zaiden's hands reached for his Charmander's Pokeball. Trembling, he paused with his hand wrapped securely around the spherical device, unable to pull it from his bag for a brief second. Inside of his bag, the red-and-white Pokeball enlargened and released the hidden lizard with a flaming tail. A burst of red light shot forth between the Sentret and the trainer and took the unmistakable shape of Charmander.
Alright, now it's time to battle! Wait...what type is this Pokemon? He wondered, his head swimming in a muddled jumble of incoherent thoughts and anxieties. Something dawned on him, and in an instance, Zaiden would fish out the red Pokedex that the Professor's assistant had given him. He opened the Pokedex up and pointed it at the Sentret. Now what? He wondered, before the device lit up and seemed to practically read his mind.
"Charr!" The orange lizard pouted, puffing out her chest and waving her arms up and down impatiently as she turned around to her trainer. The orange lizard Pokemon tried to communicate her frustrations to Zaiden. "Sentret, the Scout Pokemon. It stands on its tail so it can see a long way. If it spots an enemy, it cries loudly to warn its kind." As soon as Zaiden held up his hand with all but his index finger rolled into a fist instructing the Charmander to give him a second, the Pokedex caught him off-guard by supplying the young boy with the information he sought.
Charmander shook her head. "Charmander char char mander char!" She huffed as she turned back to the Sentret. "Charrrr mander Char!" She growled as loud as she could. Although Charmander's growls often sounded cute and endearing to some of its more avid fans, she meant for it to be scary and imposing. She still awaited an official instruction from her trainer, who seemed rather distracted in the weird red talking device. Humans!"CHARRRMANDDEERRR!"
Zaiden's Charmander started off with intimidating the poor brown mousy Pokemon with menancing growls, and it might've worked a bit too well. The wild Sentret shivered from fright, presumably it was losing the will to fight for a bit. "Sentret!" It voiced its attempt at being brave for a moment despite the setback. Perhaps it too was trying to shake off whatever fright it was experiencing for the moment. Its tiny, beady eyes gazed at the Charmander, seemingly with the fires of determination in its eyes.
With that, the Sentret wasn't going to be scared anymore. It decided to overcome its shortcomings, and dashed forward at the fiery lizard Pokemon before it. It used its paws for a clean scratch across the Charmander's face. It certainly had every bit of confidence in itself, more often than not.

The orange two-legged lizard Pokemon was starting to lose most of her patience waiting on her trainer. The tawny beige boy stood perplexed by the box, his eyebrows knitted close to each other in curiosity and wonderment. How did he activate it, and how would her operate the red Pokedex to gather all of the information he wanted? An image popped up on the red device's screen, portraying the wild Pokemon before him with its large dark brown ears. It listed the same information that the device had previously called out to Zaiden, along with other informational facts. A Normal type, huh? Is Fire useful against that?
The furry brown Pokemon rushed in for an attack, and managed to scratch Charmander across her face. Small claw marks on the fire Pokemon's right cheek bore the mark of the Sentret's attack. Anger welled up inside of the pit of Charmander's heart, along with a twinge of resentment. "Char! MANDER CHAR!" That hurt!, but it seemed to hurt her more that she didn't have a very cooperative trainer on her side! She glanced back, as if praying that Zaiden would come to his senses one way or another. "CHARMANDER?!"Either way, she was going to take this little bugger out, that's for sure! You don't scratch Charmander and get away with it!
Zaiden would stick out his hand as his Charmander turned around to give him an almost begging look. What, girl? Claw! Use your nail! She demonstrated what he meant in the air, raking at nothing with his nails. What was the move called again? Whatever it was, he just meant for the little orange Pokemon to return the favor back to the Sentret. Charmander huffed. "Charr...." She mumbled underneath her breath. The flame on her tail enlarged just a tad as the anger sparked her drive. Now she was playing charades with the mousy brown haired boy. No doubt, the Charmander most likely felt like this way a tiring, and rather ridiculous game.
Facing her opponent within a second's beat, she prepared herself for the attack. "Charm! Charmander Char!" Alright, so her trainer use his hands in the air. Did that also connect to the Charmander's claws? The bipedal Pokemon rubbed her cheek momentarily where she had been scratched, then rushed in for an attack. Whatever the gesture was, the lizard Pokemon knew what move she was going to do. Exposing her sharp claws on her paws, the Charmander would rush in to rake her opponent with her nails. An eye for an eye, as they always say. She would scratch her opponent back just as she had been scratched.
Zaiden watched, one hand still waving in the air with its fake scratch attack, and one hand wrapped up in tufts of his short hair. The fingers would glide easily through them as they were almost too short to really hold. Anxiety bundled up underneath his chest as the lad watched the fierce Pokemon fight play out before his eyes. Poor Charmander. She's tough. And it seemed to dawn on him in the heat of the moment. "Kogasu." A word that meant to scorch, much like the fiery determination and pride of the Charmander. It also referenced to the Pokemon's fire typing, as well. But it felt right.
As the charmander charged forward, fear shot through the Sentret. The sentret was young, and this was its first time seeing a human, let alone this strange orange creature who fire seemed to follow, but not to burn. It quickly retreated back into the tall grass, but it was too slow as the charmander quickly raked its sharp claws across its face. The sentret let out a loud squeal as it tumbled backwards into the tall grass and out of sight. A moment later, its ears popped up above the tall grass, then its eyes. It gazed out of the bushes, the scratch marks clearly matching those which the charmander had on its face. Its piercing gaze locked onto the lizard, and it let out a long tremolo noise, its pitch wavering at a strange squealing frequency, before ending the strange note in a loud squeak. A few seconds later, a distant squeak could be heard in response.

The Pokemon battle raged on. As Zaiden watched his partner in action, the young lad thought about his youth with his father. There were times in his backyard when Zaiden would often watch the winged fire-breathing Pokemon battling along with many of his father's own Pokemon. "Remember, son," Zaiden could recall his father's strong, booming voice as it echooed inside of the hallways of his mind, "each Pokemon takes a turn attacking the other." His father's Golduck shot a high-powered blast of water into the air after the flying Charizard, which dodged it gracefully and flew in for an attack. "Although, sometimes ya miss. Good work, Golduck!" He listened to his father calling out in enthusiasm.
Zaiden shook his head. He refocused his eyes back on the battle at hand. The furry rotund Sentret retreated back into the thick green foliage. As quickly as the Sentret could backpedal away from the Charmander, the fierce little orange Pokemon would hasten its pursuit and ducked into the grass after the Sentret. The squeaks and squeals of the scuffle indicated to the lad that someone was injured. Is it Kogasu? Is she ok? His voice trembled inside of his mind as he barely allowed himself to consider another alternative. Shortly after, Charmander stood proudly in triumph. "CHARR!" It boasted, holding up one of its paws similar to a 'thumbs up'. "Mander Charmander Charr!" It couldn't help but to cheer and clap in glee, proud that it had managed to strike its adversary.
Zaiden snapped his fingers together. The aim was to regain the attention of his newfound partner so that Kogasu would instead focus back on him. The little lizard Pokemon turned around curiously. Her large green eyes studied the lad carefully when she figured out that her trainer had made the sound. "Charr?" What would he want now? It wasn't like he was actually participating, or even helping, in this fight! But then, an unthinkable moment seemed to happen. Her trainer gave her a thumbs up in recognition, causing the little fire-breathing Pokemon to jump up and down in excitement. "Charrr! Char charmander charr! Mander charr charr charrmander charr!" She brimmed up, as she started jumping around in excitement.
Charmander started to celebrate way too soon, however. Zaiden lowered his hand to instead point towards the fuzzy brown rabbit like Pokemon. Charmander's eyes sharpened in understanding and determination. So, attack again. The little fireball could only assume that her trainer would want her to rush in for another lethal strike of her claws, right? "Char! Charmander!" Would he say that? Go, Kogasu. Scratch your opponent once more! Zaiden thought as he demonstrated the attack with his own hand in the air, scratching at nothing at all. Charmander nodded, only slightly confused and hoping she understood correctly, as she ran in for the attack.
Once again the charmander launched itself at the sentret, her claws extended and slicing at the sentret's fur. The small brown pokemon squealed in pain. Despite its brief moment of determination earlier, it truly was not prepared for this fight and felt completely overwhelmed by this firey creature's sharp attacks. But as the sentret began to panic and the pain it was in became unbearable, its natural fight or flight intincts kicked in. Adrenaline coursed through the little sentret with each scratch it took from Kogasu and without thinking about it, the sentret it fought back with its own claws. Fiercely, the sentret kicked Kogasu's soft belly with its hind claws, which allowed it to escape the charmander's relentless swipes. The sentret distanced itself from the charmander once more, but instead of fleeing, it remained on alert and readied itself for the charmander's next move. Its long ears poked out from the tall grass with nervous attention, it panted heavily. It was clear that despite that burst of adrenaline, it wasn't going to be able to fight much longer.

The orange bipedal lizard Pokemon's sharp claws made contact with the bouncy furry brown rodent Pokemon as Kogasu scratched her opponent. She could the furry yet tough hide of the Sentret for the brief second that her sharp talons made contact, and the Charmander heard the loud squeal of pain that the Sentret released. Kogasu huffed, jumping back but refusing to turn away from her opponent, as she prepared herself for another assault. Charrr!" She was a little tired herself, and the Charmander could feel her breaths starting to deepen, but Kogasu could tell that she wasn't the one suffering the most from the fight.
One more strike.
Kogasu would only need one more scratch to completely take her wilder adversary out for good. A victorious smile crept across her face. "Alright, Kogasu. Stand down." The shock that her trainer actually spoke when the only other thing he ever mentioned was that strange word froze the lizard Pokemon on the spot. "Charmander char?" She squealed in shock and surprise, as Kogasu twisted her head to peer at the teenage boy standing just behind her. What was a Kogasu? Did he think that the ugly round Sentret was that?! Why on earth would a wild Pokemon listen?Char charmander char! Charmander. Char mander char!." She piped up, trying to reassure her trainer that she was more than capable at handling the situation.
Zaiden was informing his partner Pokemon to back off so that he could try to catch the Pokemon. He trembled on the red-and-white Pokeball in hi bag, his hands shaking in both nervousness and excitement. Would he actually catch the Sentret on the first try? How would he know when the Pokeball successfully captured the wild Pokemon? How much did they struggle inside of the spherical devices, before they ultimately gave in and allowed themselves to be captured? What would happen if he failed? Zaiden pulled the red-and-white Pokeball out of his bag as his hands noticeably shook.
With a click of the button on the Pokeball and a flick of his wrist, Zaiden would throw the ball at the wild Sentret. This is actually really exciting! He thought silently to himself, as he watched the Pokeball in action. He could only hope that his Charmander had weakened the wild Sentret enough that the Pokeball would successfully catch the Pokemon. His Charmander would cross her arms after she witnessed her trainer fling a Pokeball at a random Pokemon. "Charr!" Why on earth did he want the thing that attacked HER?!
The sentret watched the charmander nervously, its wounds definitely starting to get the better of it. As it poked its head out of the top of the tall grass, it once again gave a loud squeak, though this time the response definitely sounded much closer than it had before, though it was evident it was still a ways off. The sentret had gotten itself in over its head with this fight, and sure it had just wanted to protect the others and cover for them as they escaped, but it looked like the end was drawing near for it. It focused on the charmander before it, preparing itself for its next attack, leaning back slightly on its tail and raising its claw.
Zaiden threw the red and white sphere. The ball spiraled through the air, in a curve that would make a baseball player proud, as it gently 'bapped' the sentret in the head. Completely caught off guard, the sentret looked at what had just struck it, then saw the ball as it split open and fired a red beam straight at it. Engulfed in the red light, the Sentret dissapeared from sight, the ball falling to the ground in the tall grass. The pokéball landed on the ground, then started shaking. Every few seconds, it would roll slightly in a random direction, evidence the pokémon was struggling to escape.
The ball stopped rolling with that final click. The battle was over, and the sentret was captured.
Please fill out the following code for your new sentret! (Feel free to change the image of the sentret to any sprite you prefer, with the exception of a shiny sprite, otherwise this one will be displayed in your profile!)
Zaiden watched the Pokeball fall to the ground in anticipation. As the ball rocked back and forth, showing evidence of the Sentret struggling on the inside to break free of its imprisonment, Zaiden's faith rocked back and forth. Fear slowly crept inside of his head, leaking like poison with each shake of the red-and-white ball. What would happen if he didn't catch this little Pokemon? Would it run on its heels with the taste of freedom, or fight back in rage and anger? Would he risk another Pokeball, and possibly end up with the same problem?
Then, with a click, the Pokeball stopped moving. Excitement and fear battled for their spot inside of his head, and held him captive to the spot. The orange lizard Kogasu moved first, walking over to the Pokeball and prodding it with one of her claws. She surely wanted the little furry Sentret back out of the ball so that she could finish the fight they started. However, now confusion washed over the starter Pokemon's face. Why did the fight end so soon? Why was the Sentret now trapped in a Pokeball as well? Soon, Zaiden would walk up behind the Charmander, and give a bit of a spook as he retreived the Pokeball from the earthen ground.
Carefully, he would wipe off the specks of dirt and dust that the Pokeball picked up from the ground. After cleaning the Pokeball off, he would slip it into its rightful spot on his belt and turn to his little Charmander. The fire lizard Pokemon jumped back and away from Zaiden as he reached for the Pokeball, and gathered herself once more as she realized whose hand had reached for Sentret's ball. "Charr! Charr charr manderrr!" She seemed to complain about the spook she had endured. She glanced towards the waning sunlight. Surely night would fall soon. Would their journey also come to its end, at least for the day?

Baunsu is a fairly shy and timid sort of fellow. He's able to find the courage and strength to fight and defend the Pokemon that he cares about and loves, but usually runs and hides when it comes to protecting himself. Baunsu also loves berries. This gets him in trouble sometimes, as he will often try to talk other Pokemon into outright giving him their berries. Once you get to know him, you learn that Baunsu is a super sweet and overly caring Pokemon, who would do anything to make sure those he love are always safe and sound.

Flying overhead, the scolding chirps of a familiar lizard reached the ears of a not-so-friendly bird. The high pitched calls irked the sharp beaked pokémon. Memories of previous encounters flicked through Spearow's mind as it slowed and moved into a circling pattern. The airborne predator glared down at the flickering fire before glancing to the sliver of sunlight still hanging over the horizon. It was tired. Irritable. It wanted to just reach its nest and move on from this day but... How could it possibly get to sleep knowing they were there?
Spearow let a caw pierce the air before dive bombing the trainer. It's golden feathers a gleaming beacon of fire in the orange light.
Kogasu bounced upon the ground in her spot. With indignation, the little Charmander would hop about. "CHAARR!" She huffed and pouted angrily. Flames spouted from the orange lizards mouth in short bursts. It was obvious that the Charmander was upset by what her trainer had done. What's more? Zaiden seemed to completely ignore the Charmander's wants and desires entirely. Instead, he focused on himself internally. CHARMANDERR! CHARR CHARR!" She huffed and puffed, stomping her feet on the earthen ground.
Zaiden stopped for a second and shot her a very stern, serious glare. Although his mind raced with harsh words, the young lad would bite back most of his words. Kogasu, you must learn to calm down. His eyes narrowed with a sharp look and his lips curled in a disapproving frown. Zaiden crossed his arms over his chest, and lifted one hand up to wag a pointed finger in Kogasu's direction. He started to reach down to grip the little Charmander underneath her armpits, when something striked him from the air.
As soon as the beak of a wild Pokemon stabbed Zaiden on his head, the boy immediately jumped up. Zaiden tossed his tawny beige arms up into the air, waving them wildly to shoo the aggressor off and away from him. Charmander bit her bottom lip, building flames inside of her mouth. She would lean and rock back and forth on her legs, trying to get a good shot. "CHARR! CHARMANDER! CHARR!" She gulped them back and roared out at the incompetent young boy. Why on earth was she paired with this trainer, of all trainers?! "CHARRR!" Now, if only he would stand still...!
As soon as a window of opportunity opened up, the Charmander fired a small shot of flames at the opposing Spearow. She wanted to burn her opponent and hopefully get it to leave her trainer alone. Zaiden, meanwhile, was trying to simply shoo off and dodge the bird altogether. He shuffled his feet across the ground, quickly scurrying a couple of feet away in an attempt to escape the golden feathered aggressor. What on earth did I do to you?! Confusion mixed with pain as Zaiden tried to figure out just what happened.

The sunset gilded every blade of grass, every leaf and every branch with an amber glow, providing the perfect backdrop for orange lizard and golden bird to duel. Indignant at her trainer for not allowing her to finish the last battle, it appeared that this new feeling was nothing more than a healthy part of her development. Frustration and burning desire to prove herself kindled the ardent flames in her mouth but while the determination was there, it would be difficult to try and aim the ball of fire at an incoming target, especially for the first time.
Blinded by anger, the golden bird's moves however were quite predictable as it continued to swoop at Zaiden time and time again. This allowed Kogasu to time her attack to perfection, knocking the Spearow from the sky with the fireball just inches away from Zaiden's head. The heat scorched the bird's feathers, now tainted by char marks. It appeared that some of Zaiden's hair had been singed by the attack as well. Kogasu glanced guiltily at her trainer lowering her eyes to the ground. She was only trying to protect him after all.
Attention focused on her trainer to see that he was alright, Kogasu was completely oblivious to the counter attack that the Spearow was about the launch. Camouflaged into the setting sun, the bird appeared to ride the golden rays as it dived on Kogasu's position pecking her furiously on the back of the head with its sharp beak. The Charmander rubbed her head where the shiny Pokemon had struck, wincing from the pain.
Even as Zaiden tried to step away and shoo the bird off, the golden feathered Pokemon kept after the lad. Pain radiated throughout his head, heating up his scalp with a burning sensation. As he reached up to rub his head, Zaiden could feel n almost wet touch to the top of his skull and worried that he might actually be bleeding from the bird's vicious pecks. Why is this Pokemon attacking me?! Where did it come from? Zaiden questioned, as he tried quickly shuffle in an erratic, zigzagging motion away from the Spearow. In an unfortunate series of miscalculations, Zaiden lost his footing and slipped. The first instance he would catch himself, stumbling to stand upright only to slip again and fall, face first onto the grassy earthen floor.
But hope lay on the horizon, as his partner struck the bird Pokemon out of the skies. A blast of fire shot past the side of Zaiden's face, barely gracing by and singeing his short mousy brown hair. The touch of heat from the embers burned the side of Zaiden's cheek, not quite enough to leave a constant reminder but enough to leave a notice. He rubbed the side of his face as he struggled to push himself up. "Charrr. Charmanderrr. Charrr...." Kogasu's voice was low, full of anguish and guilt. She wasn't supposed to be partnered with a human companion to hurt him. What happened and why did she end up burning him, when all she wanted to do was defeat the stupid Spearow that had attacked her trainer. CHARR!"
The words cried out in pain, anger, and anguish. The emotions swirled inside of Charmander's voice as the shiny Spearow shot back into the skies, only to dive right back down on the orange lizard Pokemon with swift, furious pecks. Pain now shot through the Charmander's head, pounding against the sides of her skull as if it might split completely apart. She shook her head and started swinging her arms wildly up in the air with the first wave of attack. "Charmander! Char!" Her voice boomed, sounding as though she had tossed out a heavy insult in the bird's direction. Zaiden, after gathering himself, stared at the bird somewhat in awe and out of fear, as he watched the Pokemon battle each other.
The Pokedex slipped out of his bag. As it landed on the ground and opened, he quickly plucked it off of the ground with his hands and pointed it towards the golden feathered bird. As Charmander swung her arms wildly at the flying Pokemon, she was desperately trying to scratch her opponent. She would scratch every last feather off of the bird Pokemon if she could help it, and leave it a featherless mess of itself. How dare it com out of no where. And not only that, it didn't JUST attack Zaiden, it attacked HER as well AND caused Kogasu to accidentally burn her trainer! Surely there was no room on her team for something so...vicious and heartless! "Spearow, the Tiny Bird Pokemon. It is very wild and will sometimes attack other Pokémon and humans." The Pokedex responded as soon as Zaiden pointed it in the Spearow's direction.
Now, wasn't that the truth? Somehow, though, this Spearow looked a bit...different than the one displayed in the Pokedex...What odd colorations it had...
