Couldn't find a thread on this but what do people think of Meltan and Melmetal? I haven't played the last couple of Generations of the games but releasing the Pokemon on its own seemed like a novel approach. No idea of how strong it is compared to other Pokemon but its move set appear pretty decent. Also just realised there were "Mythical Pokemon" now as distinct from "Legendaries" haha.

Well, I like pokemon that looks like animal mostly, and have always needed to learn to "love" dislike less the ones who looks like object. So from pure visible design I don't like meltan nor its evolution. It is the same with most of the ultra beast and things like voltorb. I'll catch them but probably not use them and wont really be excited about them either. I have a quest for it in pokemon go, and I will get to it eventually but I'm much more excited for the raikou I met or the mew that I think I will get from the other quest

I finally got a free night to do some things and first up I wanted to get to this thread. Meltan is easily the oddest mythical Pokemon ever released as unlike the others with 1 per game or event Meltan does not have a cap to capture amounts in Pokemon GO but rather only can spawn when the mystery box is active making it a very strange acquisition method. How it evolves into Melmetal is also odd as you need 400 Meltan candies to evolve a Meltan into Melmetal at a usual total of 3 per capture and 1 bonus for turning it in to the professor though you can get as many as 12 candies during events but even then it takes a while.
To say the least it was a great way to promote the Let's Go games and Melmetal is a fantastic physical attacking steel type when facing just the original 151, Meltan and itself. How it will fare in Sword and Shield is anyone's guess but I do believe it has quite a bit of potential. How it will evolve in the new games will be interesting but I do look forward to using both to see if they can make a good partner for either Salamence or Rayquaza on my team.
