It was getting on into the early evening when Bishop finally arrived in Violet City. He wasn't particularly tired because adrenaline was carrying him now. The young trainer was so excited about the prospect of taking on Falkner and winning his first gym badge that he was still bouncing a bit even after walking for the entire day.
Beside him his Torchic Jolyne hopped along trying to keep up with his longer strides. She too was excited and seemed to love to spend time outside her pokeball walking with him. As she was fairly new to the team and they were in the process of forging their own special bond like he had with others in the team Bishop decided to let her do so. It was a lot of fun actually to watch her antics. She had a lot of spirit and endless curiosity...making her a lot like him in a way.
As they passed by the Sprout Tower the sounds of a battle within caught their attention. Both human and pokemon turned that way with a surprised expression. Then, almost in unison they ran towards the sound of the fight. Who could be fighting at this hour they wondered. And wasn't the tower supposed to be a simple place of meditation for monks? Why would anyone be fighting there?
Entering the tower in a hurry they pulled up short seeing the scene in front of them. Two against one? That didn't seem exactly sporting.
"Hey now! What did he do to you two that you want to beat him up like that?"
Just as a matter of course Bishop couldn't abide bullies or unfair fights. These two monks had some explaining to do or he would just be forced to join in and help the Cyndaquil. Besides, he had a soft spot for fire types anyway. Maybe he could make friends with this lone pokemon once everything was sorted out.

Entering the scene out of nowhere and not knowing the contest, it did in fact look like the two monks present were ganging up on a lone Cyndaquil with their Bellsprouts. The Cyndaquil was whining furiously being kept in a tight grip by one Bellsprout's vines, while the other occasionally lashed out, when the Cyndaquil trashed too much against the hold. It also looked to have gone on for a while as Cyndaquil and Bellsprouts both looked somewhat battered, the Bellsprouts bearing singed marks, and the Cyndaquil breathing heavily. Even the monks were sweating. "Oh, dear," one of them began at Bishop's question. "I know this looks bad, but we're really just trying to teach the poor creature some manners." He dried off his forehead and continued apologetic. "I'm terrible sorry we can't greet you properly, honoured guest. My name is Jin, and my colleague is Chow. Oh, Bell, watch out! It's trying again!" The Cyndaquil had been still a moment. Now it tried to pull free of the vines and made a jumping move towards the stairs behind the monks. The other monk, Chow, took up the explanation, while Jin focused on the fighters. "You see, it hasn't learned anything from all it's other visits here, so it has been decided to keep it out, until it changes its ways. Unfortunately, it's too stubborn to listen to reason." There was a pause as both focused on the Cyndaquil's struggle a moment, then Jin implored directly to the Cyndaquil. "Please listen to us for once. You can't face our Elder until you see the truth of teamwork. Why won't you understand?"Two monks Weather: Indoor [attr="class","qkt-bkgd"] [attr="class","qkt-wild-pkmn"] [attr="class","qkt-clip"]Chow's Bellsprout LV 9 HP 100% [30/30] [attr="class","qkt-wild-pkmn2"] [attr="class","qkt-clip"]Jin's Bellsprout LV 9 HP 100% [30/30] [attr="class","qkt-wild-imgbox"] [attr="class","qkt-pkmn-img"] [attr="class","qkt-wild-imgbox"] [attr="class","qkt-pkmn-img"] [attr="class","qkt-trainer-pkmn2-1"] [attr="class","qkt-clip"]Wild Cyndaquil LV 10 HP 100% [30/30] [attr="class","qkt-trainer-pkmn2-2"] [attr="class","qkt-clip"]Bishop's Jolyne LV 15 HP 100% [43/43] [attr="class","qkt-trainer-imgbox"] [attr="class","qkt-pkmn-img"] [attr="class","qkt-trainer-imgbox"] [attr="class","qkt-pkmn-img"] Jin's Bellsprout [Chlorophyll]: Normal (spd 14) Chow's Bellsprout [Chlorophyll]: Normal (spd 14) Wild Cyndaquil [Blaze]: Normal (spd 21) Bishop's Jolyne [Blaze]: Normal (spd 23) <Jin and Chow have tried to explain the situation. Bishop paused there for a moment, blinking in surprise at the sage's comments. They wanted Cyndaquil to learn the truth of teamwork? When it was here by itself? He knew sages had a tendency to talk in riddles but that made very little sense to him. Unless one considered they wanted this little fellow to find a friend and understand that he couldn't do everything by himself. That was when a wickedly fun idea struck the young trainer.
"Maybe they are right Buddy," he said, both addressing the Cyndaquil and giving it a nickname in the spur of the moment. "Maybe you can't do it alone. But what if you have a friend to help you out?"
With that he gave the Cyndaquil a little wink to show he was here to help if the fire type would accept the aid.
"Jolyne, use your Ember attack. Let us show the Sages a bit of teamwork in action!"
It was a spur of the moment thing but it felt right to Bishop. He didn't expect the grass types to fare very well against two fire types though.

The monks looked surprised when Bishop offered his assistance to the cyndaquil, Chow even nodded encouragingly to Bishop while Lin spoke dorectly to Cyndaquil once again. "Please Cyndaquil, listen to him and try to learn, you don't have to do this on your own," Lin pleaded but the cyndaquil snorted and looked too stubborn to think they wanted to help it. It glanced at Bishop when he spoke but didn't acknowledge it or look thankful at all at the offer of help, and instead returned to struggle against its captor. It wasn't going to discourage Bishop or Jolyne though and Cyndaquil blinked surprised when the bellsprout that didn't held it collapsed on the ground in a smoking heap. The small plants clearly was no match for the torchic's flames. Cyndaquil was quick to take advantage of it, or perhaps it wanted to show it was as skillful as Jolyne, with no other bellsprout to keep it in check it was free to use its Embers. Which it did, straight at the one remaining bellsprout that fought to hold it back. The flames forced the grass type to release its hold on Cyndaquil and it instantly jumped towards the stairs only to be sent back again by the same bellsprout's whipping vines. The fire type frustrated stomped with a paw. "Well done Bell, keep it up!" Jin encouraged his battered bellsprout. Chow calmly recalled his bellsprout and looked at Bishop. "I do really hope you can help it learn, it has been 5 years since it first time arrived here and lost to Elder Li's magnificent bellsprout. It has kept coming back ever since and has started fires more than once, never trying to learn from its mistakes or try a new approach," Chow explained while watching Bishop intently. Bishop glanced towards the sage and nodded. He still wasn't entirely sure what was going on here but was getting a pretty good idea. The two men hoped to help Cyndaquil learn a lesson it seemed and he was more than willing to help in that regard. It was the job of trainers after all to teach pokemon things.
He had noticed that his Torchic was just a hair faster than the Cyndaquil and that both of them were quicker than the Bellsprouts. Jolyne should therefore be able to clear the wounded plant type off the stairs and give their new friend a chance to advance. What it might think of the assistance he didn't know but Bishop supposed they would find out together.
"Jolyne, use Ember on the other Bellsprout," he ordered, already starting towards the stairs himself. In his mind there was no way she would fail in this considering how weakened the opponent already was.
"Cyndaquil, we have your back. Go on ahead and we'll be right behind you."
He spared a glance towards their new friend to see how he would take that and if it would in some way resist the offer of help.

Jolyne was truly the fastest, and as Cyndaquil stomped its feet in annoyance at the remaining Bellsprout still keeping it away from the stairs, her embers filled the air and made short work of it. Jin recalled the flower before it hit the floor and bowed his head in acceptance of the loss towards Bishop. He gave the boy a wink at the same time, though the Cyndaquil still refused to acknowledge his help. As soon the Bellsprouts were out of its way it ran to the stairs with an almost arrogant huff, not even grazing Bishop and Jolyne with a thanks. Jin looked after it with sorrow in his eyes. "I hope you manage to reach it, before you make it to the top. If it doesn't willingly accept your help for the final battle, it won't have learned anything." He approached Bishop with a couple notes in his hand, the obligatory prize for winning the battle. The other monk nodded at Jin's word, and moved to allow Bishop passage to the stairs. "May your passion shine through and reach its heart. We'll pray for your success." They each bowed again, as Bishop passed them on his way. Bishop thanked the sage and turned to give chase to the Cyndaquil. Poor stubborn thing had already bolted for the stairs leaving the young trainer to curse quietly to himself. Well, the chances of him getting very far on his own were pretty slim...which as it turned out was a good thing.
"Jolyne! Your evolving!" he said, eyes wide with wonder. Bishop had seen this happen once before with Ember his Charmander, well, Charmeleon now. It would never fail to evoke a sense of wonder in him. Here was proof positive that their hard work and training paid off. He watched in awed silence as she went through the change and then let the fire type let out a battle cry. Same old Jolyne he thought with a grin; new form but still spoiling for a chance to prove herself.
"Alright then, lets go help our new friend!"
The newly evoloved Combusken set out to catch up to the Cyndaquil on the stairs. It appeared that it had stopped to face the next advesary. Now Bishop and Jolyne had to double time to catch up and try to get the stubborn pokemon to accept their help.

It was a short run up the stairs and Bishop and Jolyne got met by rain. Wait, rain? Inside? The cyndaquil was facing yet another bellsprout and clearly didn't like the indoor weather. The Bellsprout looked fine and determined and its trainer, another sage, was standing at the wall beside a handle with a somber expression. The handle was clearly connected with the sprinklers in the ceilling that spread the misty water in the whole room. He lightened up when Bishop appeared and looked questioningly between him and the cyndaquil. "Are you here to help?" The sage asked and pointed at cyndaquil. The said fire type leaped forward but the water did weaken it a lot and made it wooden floor slippery. It was easy for the bellsprout to stop it and push it back. "My name is Neal, and I'm the last bump in the road for this stubborn cyndaquil, the times where it managed to get past my brothers down below," Sage Neal presented himself to Bishop and then turned to look at the cyndaquil. "You cannot get past me on your own, you know that. You have failed enough times already even though you refuses to give up. If you cannot get past me, you don't have a chance against Elder Li and the Master Bellsprout," he told it calmly and it stomped frustrated with a foot. It had gotten this far, for the first time in ages and it really didn't fancy having to turn around again and fail. "How did you get past the others down stairs?" Sage Neal asked innocently and the cyndaquil narrowed its eyes at him, before glancing hesitantly back at Bishop and Jolyne. It looked torn and fidgeted while the sage just waited. "A little help, please?" It finally mumbled quietly and looked like it was a very, very hard thing for it to say. While it didn't look at Bishop or Jolyne it did have its head turned in their direction. The bellsprout seemed to relax and looked back to give the sage a little nod, Neal beamed. Sage Neal is blocking the way with his bellsprout [lvl 10] And he has turned on the sprinklers! Weather: RainJolyne can learn Double Kick as it is her lvl up move, do you want her to forget another move for that?

Bishop acknowledged the Sage with a nod.
"I'm here to help if Cyndaquil will accept it," he said, sparing a glance towards the stubborn pokemon. His expression was kind though, making it clear with his smile that he intended to do everything he could for his new friend if the other would only allow it. When the little fire type relented and asked for the aid Bishop gave him a big smile.
"Alright then, let's do this."
He tossed Cyndaquil the Sitrus berry from his pack to hold. The poor fellow had been nicked up a little in the first fight.
"You hold that and then join on in the fight when you can. Jolyne, fire isn't going to get us past this challenge. Use your Peck attack on the Bellsprout!"
That should give the grass type something to think about and give Cyndaquil an opening to get in an attack of his own.
(Yes please. Let Jolyne forget Scratch and learn Double Kick)

The cyndaquil looked surprised when Bishop threw a berry to it. First it jumped back in suspicion until it realized what it was, then it crept back hesitantly to claim it while keeping a good eye on Bishop to make sure it was not a trap. Nothing happened as it took the berry and withdrew to a safe distance once again from where it watched the battle. It had noticed that Bishop had told it to hold on to it and join later, but it was unsure what he meant with that. Did he meant this battle or the next one if Jolyne beat the bellsprout? It looked longingly at the stairs on the other side of the room. This bellsprout didn't mean anything to it, but the one on the next floor, the Sacred Bellsprout, the one it wanted a rematch with so it could proble its worth, that was its goal and what was happening here couldn't end fast enough in its opinion. Sage Neal turned serious when he learned who their opponent was going to be. "This isn't going to be easy Bellsprout," he commented and didn't get to utter another word before Jolyne was over it and sent it sprawling to the floor with her beak. "Oh! Are you alright Bellsprout?!" Sage Neal exclaimed and the bruised bellsprout dragged itself back on its feet. "We need to avoid that, Double Team, make it hard to find you!" Sage Neal ordered and the bellsprout nodded and then looked like it split into more until 3 stood in front of Jolyne. Cyndaquil lifted its head to see better, what would they do about this? It had lost due to that annoying trick many times as it had no idea who to get through to the right one. "You can do this Jolyne," Bishop called out in an encouraging tone. "Use your Peck attack again. You'll hit it eventually!"
He wasn't sure how much the Double Team would throw off her aim but the Bellsprout was badly hurt from the first attack. It would only take a little more to finish it off so they could advance. As Jolyne sized up their opponent and prepared to attack he turned his attention to the Cyndaquil.
"It will take us both working together to get up the stairs and fight the elder," he said with a nod. "I'm willing to help if your willing to allow it. Lets work together. You don't have to do it alone. Things are always easier with some friends to help out."
While he didn't know if the pokemon would consider it or not Bishop was willing to try if Cyndaquil was.

There was little Jolyne could do to distinguish the bellsprout from its copies, unless she had an attack that could hot multiple opponents or in some other way was so fast that she could take more than one down before it got to move. As it was now, there was little she could do other than hope for the best. She raced forward towards the bellsprout to the far right, and hit it! The sage looked rather desperate but there was little he could do. His bellsprout didn't get to its feet again. He was quiet as he recalled the pokemon and trotted over to hand Bishop his winnings, he looked like wanted to say something. Cyndaquil had been listened to what Bishop told it, although it was hard to read its expression and what it thought about it all. Its attention snapped to the battle the moment the bellsprout collapsed on the floor, and its eyes widened as it understood what it meant. The path was clear! Cyndaquil raced to the stairs and up, but paused near the top to look back and see if Bishop followed. The moment he did, it continued. It was finally time! It was going to get a rematch with the Sacred Bellsprout and this time, this time for sure, it was going to beat it! "No! Wait, you can't!" Sage Neal exclaimed horrified and Bishop would never learn what it was the sage might have wanted to tell him before. ~~ When Bishop reached the top he saw Cyndaquil facing a hoothoot, a regal looking bellsprout behind it, a sage that had to be Elder Li, and about 20 sages who were looking rather resentful. When Bishop took a closer look around it would be clear that the sages had been in the middle of a ceremony, which cyndaquil, and now also him had interrupted. Cyndaquil looked like it didn't bother it at all, or perhaps it just didn't know it was a problem. It looked expectantly back at Bishop when he appeared and gestured towards the Sacred Bellsprout. Bishop was going to help it with the battle right? Now it had finally reached the top and was ready to settle the score, all it waited for was Bishop's next move. "Young man," the oldest sage said with a thing voice, "this is a sacred time and very important for us, and you are interrupting." There was no doubt this was Elder Li, and that he wanted Bishop to turn around. "Leave, the tower is not open for the public at this time, you are tresspassing," Elder Li informed and pointed at the door, "and take the cyndaquil with you, it has been a bother for years and refuses to learn anything new.""Beeel-sprout!" the Sacred Bellsprout ordered and the hoothoot began to attempt to herd Cyndaquil back out the door. The remaining sages waited and shifted around a bit impatiently, most of them was standing with incenses and other relics and they looked like they wanted to to continue as soon as possible "Cyn, cyn!" the cyndaquil protested as it failed to dart around the hoothoot, and it looked pleadingly back at Bishop for help. Jolyne found the right one and plucked it! She gains +1 level, making her lvl 17, and +1 happiness too (now +4). Sage Neal hands over £336 to Bishop for winning. ~~~ Cyndaquil races to the top and interrupts a ceremony, and expects Bishop to help it with the battle right here and now. Elder Li doesn't look pleased. Sacred Sprout [lvl 12] orders Hoothoot [lvl 11] to escort Cyndaquil and its helpers out. What will Bishop do?note: Cyndaquil is holding a Sitrus berry, which it has been given by Bishop.
