It was so... pink. An array of bright girlish pastels assaulted his eyes as he entered through the doors of Goldenrod City's gym. He needed a moment to adjust to the palette, pausing in the entryway to stare at the walls and flooring. The ceiling seemed like it was a light-year away, and from the looks there were staircases to the crest of the half-walls snaking their way around the room. It was like someone taking a warehouse and setting up dividers to create 'rooms'. That part was at least something familiar. Back home there was a farmers market with a seating area built on a constructed '2nd level' that allowed everyone to overlook the stalls while they rested.
"Huh..." This was not at all what he was expecting. Though, in hindsight with Whitney supposedly being a famous model he really shouldn't have been. Even the laziest research would bring up that much about the opponent he was planning to face today. "Guess I gotta find her then," he spoke to no one in particular, looking at his path options before he began wandering along the passages to try and find Whitney.
It was well decorated, he would give her that. Once he was accustomed to the motley of patterns he found the break up of pink with the greenery was actually pretty nice. The Violet City gym in comparison was so bland; empty. Just a pile of wood and glass whereas this was expertly designed with the idea of comfort top priority. Well. Maybe cutesy was put before it, but it was still rather calming to be surrounded by.
Eventually he found a pleasant nook outfitted for the comforts of the gym's residents and to his relief it wasn't empty. There was a girl with dark hair lounging with a magazine. It wasn't Whitney, he was pretty sure. Unless all those covers he'd seen of her had her wearing a wig. The ranger shivered at the though, shaking his head and approaching the lass.
"Uh, excuse me?" he began, raising a hand to give a little wave at the girl as he paused. She was pretty. Much more down-to-earth regular sort of pretty. "Hey, my name's Damien. Do... do you know where Whitney is by any chance? I've been wandering about with no luck."

The short-haired lass eyes clung to every word and image inside of the magazine. It happened to be the newest copy of “Cutest Pokemon Monthly”, a monthly newsletter of the cutest Pokemon within Johto and a detailed synopsis of what made them so cute! The young lass always expected to see Whitney and her Clefairy somewhere in the rankings. In the past, they had ranked as the supreme cutest Pokemon in the region, though recent postings had taken them down a peg or two. But this time, she wasn’t scanning for Whitney. Where were they…. where….no not number 3……darn, not number 6 either? There, finally, near the end of the list, smackdab between an advertisement for the Mall and an up-and-coming theatre, she saw her Snubbull nestled with an image of it wearing the cutest litt- Oh? Someone wanted her attention. This caused the girl to grip the edges of the magazine a little roughly, before she relaxed her hands. The brown-haired Carrie gently closed the Magazine and placed it on her seat as she stood up. She would take only a second to smooth out the edges of her black dress, which fell just above her knees, as she switched her gaze to the young ranger clad in a red hat. “You’re looking for Whitney, you say?” She lifted a finger to the edge of her chin and tapped it a few times playfully. Her other hand would reach into the pocket sown into the side of her dress and pull out a small red-and-white spherical device. “I’ll take you straight to her…” She humored, then gave a quick wink as she pressed the button on the Pokeball and released her small pink puffball of a Pokemon. The Jigglypuff teetered back and forth on its feet, bubbling out soft, “Jigg….ggglyyypufff….jiiggg,” almost rhythmically. “If you can defeat me in a battle!” She threw her hand out in the classic ‘peace sign’ demonstration as she nodded towards her super-cute round balloon Pokemon. She glanced down as the Jigglypuff rocked on its feet, standing up on the ball of its feet in intervals before rolling the arches of its feet back onto the ground, then repeating the motion as it rocked. “You…are here for a Gym battle, correct?” She asked, just to be sure she hadn’t second-guessed the lad’s intentions. Usually when you came strolling into the large pink Gym and demanded for Whitney, you were here for a Pokemon battle. They always always forgot about Carrie, though! Defender of Whitney’s throne! Lass Carrie challenges you to a battle first! She’s sending out her [Level 18] Jigglypuff! What will Damien do?

"Yeah," he confirmed whilst the girl considered his request. He wasn't sure what else to say so just stood there dumbly awaiting the lass to continue the conversation. So distracted he didn't notice her hand go for a pokéball at first. Instead his attention clung to her words.
"You will?" he responded instantly with hope-filled joy. He hated asking other people for directions, especially inside of a building. Her wink put him off-guard before he could follow up with a premature thank you. His eyes watched the ball raise and click. A pokémon forming in-between them. The young lad didn't pick up on it very quick. Lucky for him his finely dressed company made her intentions very clear as she voiced her conditions.
Of course. He was in a gym after all. No doubt the girl was an understudy of sorts. A bit of color burned in his cheeks as his mind thought about how slow he was being in front of the lass. So slow she had to confirm that he was a trainer here for battling and not some delivery boy or something. "Uh y-yes!" he finally replied, a sprinkle of embarrassment as he hurriedly moved his hands to the full party at his disposal. Without putting much thought into it he grabbed his second one, figuring the familiar pink puff would be an easy match for his luxio. He pressed the button and released the electric type.
The air crackled the moment Andromeda set eyes upon the cutesy challenger. Her fur stood on end and she tensed, a rising tingle etching through her being as she locked onto the other female pokémon. "Is it okay to fight right here?" he inquired, gesturing to the human comforts around the young girl. But Damien wasn't going to get a say in where this fight happened, nor when it began. Andromeda screeched viciously, using the hard 'x' in her name to hiss at Carrie's jigglypuff. Her sleek black coat sparked to life and she charged full speed ahead.

A little smile hid in the corner of Carrie's mouth when Damien blushed a bit. She might not be Whitney but she still had some skills and it was nice to see that they worked after the little disappointment of that cutest competition which just meant the judges hadn't really seen her dear snubbull. She played a bit with her hair and tilted her head while looking cutely at Damien, if he couldn't handle the cuteness or let his guard down due to it, he was not worthy of challenging Whitney, then he'd just be a waste of time. Beside in war and love all tricks apply, and Whitney had perfected messing people up be making them believe she was doing both. "Aw, what a cutie!" Carrie swooned when Andromeda appeared and her jigglypuff puffed offended and blew herself up to double the size. The pink pokemon glared back at the luxio and knew very well of the feelings the electric type had, other females were often a pain in the butt, but this was her territory. "Oh, nononono, we have a nice place just over here.." Carrie started with a giggle and pointed towards a battle arena visible through a pair of doors, but Andromeda didn't wait for that. The air cackled and Carrie screamed as Andromeda barely avoided hitting her as she raced passed and sent the jigglypuff flying into the table with magazines into the air. "SUGARPUFF?!" Carrie then screamed horrified as her pink pokemon lay groaning on the ground, then Carrie spun around and pointed an accusing finger at Damien. "You! What are you doing?! I didn't start the battle yet!" She shrieked and then pulled her head as she looked at the mess and broken furniture, the lamp hadn't survive the shock of electricity either. Carrie whined and pulled her hair, "Oh no, what am I going to do!" "Sugerpuff! My sweet one, please I need your help, you need to calm this, this beast down, now!" Carrie begged her pokemon who took a couple of deep breaths and then began to sing quietly. It sounded like a really sad song and it could pull your heartstrings if you weren't used to it, but it was also very soothing. Andromeda would fight to keep her fury up but the song wiggled its way past her defenses and she exhaled and felt her whole body relax. There was no need to fight now, the song weaved around and filled the air with peacefulness and soon the luxio was slumbering on the floor. The song had also managed to calm Carrie a bit and she took a few breaths. "Well done my sugarpie, you are the best!" She whispered with tears in her eyes and then turned to look sternly at Damien, hands on her hips. "We only have a bit of time and the battle will continue in there or not at all, do you understand? Either make sure of that or I will throw you out," she said and shuffled over to check up on her pink pokemon who had gotten upright by now. Andromeda was twitching, she would wake up soon. It had all happened so fast. The young ranger tried to grab and chase before his luxio could get too far but the sparkle of electricity dancing along her fur snapped at his fingers and caused a flight reflex. Standing in the aftermath of the sudden attack he felt a wave of embarrassment.
"I-I-I..." his tongue was twisted. Words catching in his throat as he tried to apologize to Carrie. Mind racing, heart pounding, Andromeda snarling. What was wrong with her? It was just like when they met Ferra. "A-Andromeda, heel!" It was his best attempt in the flurry but the electric pokémon ignored him. Her ears flattened and she just became even more agitated. Luckily for them Carrie had a solution.
The moment the jigglypuff began her sweet song Damien moved to plug his ears. He could still hear the muffled melody, and with his distance from his disobedient feline it probably was unnecessary, but Sugerpuff's song helped calm him down as well. He watched Andromeda struggle to stay awake before succumbing to the music then sighed himself, feeling a wash of relief come over him. The ranger rushed over to his pokémon but it was mostly to inspect the mess she was slumbering amidst. He hurriedly picked up the magazines nearby and piled them messily on the shoved table. It was a good thing jigglypuffs were light as air, or he may have been charged with buying the gym a new one.
Carrie's stern voice caught his attention, causing the young lad to stand and spin around to face like a drill sergeant. He nodded and responded reflexively, "Yes ma'am." As she tended to her pink puff Damien sighed deeply then crouched down to look at his. "What sets you off?" he mumbled, puzzled. Sugerpuff and Ferra didn't really look alike save for being light colored and being roughly on the same end of the color spectrum. Damien pulled the luxio's pokéball from his belt with intent to just recall her now and continue with another of his team... but then another possible idea hit him. He hmmm'd and put the ball away, scooping the electric pokémon up in his arms to carry her into the dedicated arena. She was restless, twitching and growling in her sleep.
Damien set her down at one end of the battle space, careful to not jar her awake in fear of getting a panicked lashing. "One more try," he spoke under his breath, backing away a little ways. "Please behave yourself... Stay calm..." he continued muttering whilst staring intently at his pokémon. He waited patiently for his opponent to be ready before making any attempt to rouse the spark pokémon by calling her name. The boy was still too embarrassed to get any words out to Carrie.

Carrie pouted and stomped a foot while she impatiently waited for Damien to finish picking up his sleeping luxio. She scowled when he decided to continue using the reckless electric type, whom he clearly had no control off, but this was an official gym challenge and as long as the battle was kept inside the assigned areas and the damage to a minimum she couldn't order him to not use it. She picked up and cradled her poor jigglypuff as she followed Damien into the proper arena, her pokemon taking all advantages it could from the little break it gave it. "You really need to work on your control, that could have been dangerous. In here we're all experienced so we can handle such accidents but you can't have a pokemon you don't know if it goes off any moment, what if it attacks a child? Or an little cute hatchling?" Carrie said sternly but changed to look really sad at the last part, both babies and newly hatched pokemon was so cute, it would be horrible if those poor defenseless ones got attacked by a ferocious pokemon like Andromeda. Carrie placed Sugerpuff on one end of the battlefield and if Damien hadn't already taken his spot in the other end, she would direct him to it. "We need to put an end to that, Sugerpuff use Disable," Carrie said thoughtful, at least that would take the brunt of Andromeda's force from her for a bit, buying Carrie and her pokemon some time. It was just in time as Andromeda stirred, and then reacted as Damien called her name. Her eyes locked on Sugarpuff, who blev herself up in an attempt to get airborne and some distance to the crazy luxio. It was of no use though as Andromeda leaped more or less from where she was and buried her teeth deep into the pink ballon, who in turn screamed from pain, before she disappeared in a flash of red. Carrie had recalled her. The Lass had tears in her eyes, how dared Damien set something like that loose on her precious pokemon?! She wanted to scream but didn't say anything, instead she let out another cat pokemon a Meowth whose pelt shone like a diamond. "Careful Penny, this one is a heartless one," Carried choked to her pokemon who narrowed her eyes at Andromeda. "She's really not usually like this..." Damien defended, finding the words to answer Carrie once they were both setup in the appropriate battle grounds of the gym. "She's usually almost shy, and hasn't ever acted up around any of my pokémon." He paused a moment to finally make eye contact with Carrie. "The only other time this has ever happened was against Ferra, a zangoose I caught not too long ago. I thought it was just a one-time thing. Some kind of territory spat where Andromeda felt threatened maybe?"
It wouldn't matter what Damien said. What mattered was just as she had pointed out: control. Not knowing what set off his electric pokémon wasn't any excuse for letting her go off like that. He knew it.
When she first rouse Andromeda blinked, calmly looking at her new surroundings as she regained her bearings. There was something heavy weighing on her. Some kind of debilitation that felt like it had locked away her static charge. Damien's hope that the luxio had settled and was going to behave all went out the door though when the feline pokémon spotted the pink puff in the ring. Her fur stood on end and she instantly changed demeanor to a raging bull. "Andromeda..." the ranger spoke in a warning tone, attempting to keep control of the luxio as she got to her feet growling. But it was no use. With a hiss she was leaping for the fairy pokémon and digging her teeth in.
Poor Sugerpuff hadn't stood a chance. Andromeda stood over the fallen jigglypuff with her head held high. The feline was almost smirking at her victory. Her fur softened and she ceased all aggressive displays. "Come here girl," came the boy's voice. Her ears flicked back and she immediately responded, trotting back to stand at his feet. Her tail swayed happily behind her and she seemed to be expecting some kind of congratulatory attention for the victory she secured in battle. Instead, Damien put a fist to his forehead trying to understand what was flipping her switch. There had to be something about the jigglypuff specifically that she didn't like.
Looking back to Carrie for a moment he noticed the tearful expression. He felt so guilty, a pit forming in his stomach. This was a pokémon battle of course. One of them had to lose. But he felt like a villain with the way Andromeda had gone so viciously about it.
Then it started up again. The appearance of Carrie's second pokémon, a meowth with a brilliant coat, brought Andromeda's attention onto the new opponent. Her eyes narrowed, fur bristling once again before she hunched and began growling. This time the ranger acted fast. "No! You're done." The young lad snatched up her pokéball from his belt and withdrew her before she could begin rampaging again. She had already taken her first few steps in charge toward Penny.
He sighed, "I'm very sorry about Sugarpuff." He wanted to say more, but what? He'd never made someone cry before let alone a pretty girl. All Damien's brain could muster was to grab another of his party and send them out. This time a pokémon he knew he could trust to be at his best behavior: Booker; the ranger needed to show Carrie he could control his pokémon. The herdier stepped onto the field with tail wagging and a much more friendly outlook on Carrie and Penny.
"Ready boy? You're picking up where Andromeda left off so brace yourself." Booker barked affirmatively and buckled down awaiting the meowth's move. "I want you to take down Penny, just like we practiced," the young ranger added.

Carrie didn't look impressed with Damien's excuse which more or less only told that he didn't had control of his pokemon. That Andromeda had acted so aggressively and out of control the moment she woke up hadn't put an ease to Carrie at all. "It's your job as a trainer to figure out such things and handle them, it's your responsibility!" She declared tearfully with her arms folded in front of her chest. She didn't like the look of how smugly and relaxed the luxio looked after what she had just done, it was like she was a completely different pokemon. "Defending territory is usually when they are on their home ground, not when they are out somewhere new, she might have felt threatened although I wouldn't say she looked scared at all," Carrie added with a sniffle, "I think she just has you tied around her finger and is tricking you."Carrie really hoped that Penny could withstand the twofaced luxio, which turned back to her demonic self the moment she laid her eyes on her beautiful meowth. Penny took a few steps backwards, surprised at Andromeda's expression and confused to why she was the reason of it. Carrie was relieved to see Damien took charge of the situation and recalled the horrible pokemon, she was tempted to go to Whitney and suggest a rule that would ban horrible pokemon like that. They should only allow cute pokemon, they were at least sweet most of the time and knew how to behave! Carrie waved a hand dismissively, she had said what she wanted and nothing Damien said could make it better. "You can control your pokemon, Whitney will not look lightly on such behavior in her gym," she warned. She had a feeling already it was limited what she could do against this trainer, although that was why she was here, to make sure only the strongest continued so they did'n't waste Whitney's time. Penny began hissing the moment Booker appeared and Carrie looked skeptically at the happy dog, who knew when it would turn into a monster. Carrie thought for a bit but then decided that Damien probably had more pokemon to switch with. "Time for a cat fight, you know what to aim for!" Carrie ordered and Penny spluttered as she leaped forward and let her claws scratch deep marks into the unprepared Booker's face. Scars would lower your beauty and while Damien and Booker probably wasn't going to participate in beauty contest Carrie felt it wasn't so bad with a dirty trick after what Andromeda had done to them. Booker didn't like it and raced after Penny, who was nimble and dodged him several times but in the end he managed to corner her and crashed her into the wall in a full body tackle. Booker was panting when he finally stood up after that, Penny stayed still and Carrie recalled her with a stone face. For a moment Carrie looked hesitant but then let out her prized pokemon Beau and hoped she wouldn't regret it. Things weren't going very well for Carrie. If it wasn't for Andromeda's outbursts Damien probably wouldn't have felt any guilt towards the success of his own team over the girls' own, so when Booker padded back the ranger wasn't quite as forthcoming with praise as he normally would be. The boy had glanced to his opponent and saw just how cold and annoyed she had gotten. A stark contrast the the cheery girl he'd met in the adjacent room.
"Good job boy." The good words came at a near whisper only after he had knelt down to give the herdier a quick pet. If it was possible to not agitate Carrie any further Damien was going to do what he could to achieve that, but he wasn't going to make his well behaved pokémon pay for it. Booker accepted the brief interaction happily. His mustache wriggled as he moved his head into the motions.
She certainly liked pink. Damien ceased the petting and adjusted his hat as he observed the odd looking hound that was sent out as Carrie's third pokémon. For a brief instant he considered switching to another of his team, someone more fresh perhaps. But he still had Whitney to consider after all this and... well... "I have trained my pokémon well," he spoke up, responding to her comment from a few minutes ago at this point. How could he prove otherwise if he just switched out every round? He was feeling a little less intimidated by the girl the more she bashed the behavior of his team. He noticed the way she looked at Booker and felt he needed to defend the pup. The herdier was exceptional in Damien's opinion and didn't deserve to be the object of anyone's scorn.
"Booker, shake." The dark-haired boy held out a hand and his herdier did as instructed, lifting a paw into his trainer's palm for a demonstrated 'hand shake'. Damien smiled and let his dog's paw go then nodded toward Carrie and Beau. Booker stood from his haunches and went back into battle mode. He eyed the grumpy pink bulldog and couldn't help but feel a little unnerved.
"It wasn't the greatest first impression... " he tried to assure her, standing from his crouched position. The young lad kept a few fingers on his head wear to fidget slightly as he addressed the girl. He could still feel embarrassment burning lightly in his cheeks. "... but I promise the rest of my visit to this gym won't resemble that." Damien took a deep breath and passed the lass a friendly smile before putting his attention onto the pokémon.
"Booker, crunch."

Carrie’s eyes narrowed upon the shaggy, short-limbed quadrupedal black-and-brown furred canine that stood adjacent to her Pokemon. Her cute pink bulldog with her short brachycephalic snout lifted her black button nose up towards the air and started to sniff about enthusiastically. “Not now, Beau. Treats are for doing a good job, remember?” She promised, slipping her hand into the too-short pockets of her short black dress and ruffling something that made a very low rustling noise. Damien may have missed it entirely, but Carrie’s pink Snubbull with the striking blue polka-dot markings and blue ruffled neck fur would not – as her nose did not betray her. Snubbull crossed her short, thick arms tightly across her chest and grumbled underneath her voice before she would give a firm nod of her head. “You may have them performing parlour tricks…” Carrie gestured with her arms dramatically towards the young black-haired lad’s display of a proper ‘shake’, “But that doesn’t necessarily translate to having them trained in the ways of a proper battle.” She retorted. Then she pointed a singular finger towards the Herdier with a snap. “Beau, care to demonstrate whose fangs are better? Show us what a Fire Fang looks like, will ya?’ Why this boy chose to keep dangerous Pokemon around was beyond her. Luckily, he seemed to have that monstrous beast contained for now. However, Carrie wasn’t above disqualifying a trainer from a match if they couldn’t control their Pokemon properly – and she was positive that Whitney wouldn’t hesitate to do just that, either. Huff! All this nonsense had really ruffled her feathers dress! What a waste of an introduction and a good start. Would she take fault in giving the wrong misconception from the beginning through her high-strung personality? Oh course not. Still, Booker’s nails clacked across the hard tiled floor of the open GYM’s battleground as he rushed forward. Beau did the same. Both Pokemon seemed just as excited and eager to meet each other, with Beau’s interested sparked at winning Carrie’s affection and some of her hidden stash of treats! The shaggy normal brown-and-black dog seemed almost twice as fast as the bipedal pink-and-blue fairy dog, however. The Herdier’s jaws parted to show the rows of sharp canine teeth, and in a flash Booker buried his fangs into the side of Beau. Beau yelped out in pain and pulled back, trying to break free in an instance. Beau’s growls were loud and threatening, a warning as a flaming-hot coat of fire enveloped the Snubbull’s long sharp fangs. Beau would immediately bite Booker back, twisting around her opponent just so to catch Booker on his shoulder at the base where his shoulder blades met with his back. The air was full of noises in the moment – noises of two canines fiercely growling and then howling between their threats and bouts of pain as they battled fiercely. “At least you seem to have a better handle on them, now.” She admitted, a little reluctantly. Let’s ensure you keep it that way. She kept the last piece to herself. The young ranger was left speechless with Carrie's continued disbelief. Her words repeated in his mind as the pair of pokémon battled it out: 'parlor tricks'. If Booker's behavior and obedience thus far hadn't dissuaded her from assuming all his pokémon were like the luxio there was likely little he could do. Even as she justified that prowess in battle was the true test Damien didn't think she actually believed that. It was just an excuse. There was no winning on that front.
"You okay boy?" he looked down to his faithful hound, trying to gauge his injuries. The herdier waggled his furry mustache and let out a gruff bark. His tail wagged for just for a second afterward, otherwise his attention stayed focused on Carrie's snubbull. Of who let out a somewhat less negative comment regarding his control over his team. The remark made the boy smile just a little. Perhaps it wasn't a lost cause.
"Beau's definitely got some good chompers on him," Damien began, praising the pink hound in the hopes the atmosphere continued to improve. "I think in that competition he'd probably win." The ranger let out a soft laugh, albeit slightly awkwardly as he was unsure how she'd react. Truth be told Booker had a similar move in his repertoire, of which Damien had been planning to use, but now... Perhaps not.
In the boy's effort to leave with a better impression than he began with, Damien changed plans. "Alright, that was a good hustle Booker. We best not get in a bite fight, so switch up to do a take down," he instructed. Booker let out a stifled bark then hunched down in preparation to charge.

Beau howled and cried as he rushed back to Carrie’s side. She leaned down and placed one of her knees on the ground and bounces on the ball of her other foot as she perched and studied her Pokemon. The adorable pink fairy dog’s fur was wrangled and in disarray. Globs of saliva coated the top of the fur, and small patches of the pink fur had been removed. She frowned as she lifted herself up and immediately crossed her hands over her chest. “Oh, Beau!” Carrie commented in a fit of rage she stomped the heel of her shoe against the gym floor with a loud clack! “All that work to reach Number 9 of Cutest Pokemon Monthly, and your fur is ALL RUINED!”Carrie spun on her feet and turned to face her opponents. She wanted to be mad. Carried wanted to throw herself on the ground – or at her opponents – and whine and pout. This just wasn’t fair for beau’s sake! But this was a GYM battle, and it was even less fair for her to make a whole display, especially before the battle was over. “Your Booker has done a number on my Beau, too.” She gave a sort of off-handed compliment as she waved her hands towards her most prized Pokemon. “It’s going to take me a whole week to get him back into performance-ready style!” She sort of whined. Carried then added with a nod to Beau, “If he’s switchin’ up, let’s do the same. Go for a Headbutt. Ram ‘em with that thick skull of yours, Beau!”Damien’s shaggy black-and-brown Herdier would be much faster than Beau, and with such a strong gust of force that it would completely overwhelm his opponent. Booker’s feet kicked off across the tiled gymnasium floor, his claws echoing short off-key notes. He was swift as the wind itself and managed to turn and twist himself around in near circles around Beau’s speed. In the blink of an eye, Booker rammed himself full force into Beau, toppling over the other canine as they seemed to spin across the ground. After the dust settled from the attack, Booker would remain standing beside a passed-out Beau. “What!” Words of bewilderment and shock escaped Carrie’s lips. She raised her hands to either side of her face, as her mouth fell wide open in an ‘O’ shape. How could they come in and just sweep her sweet, sweet puppy right off his feet?! How dare they simply knock Beau out so effortlessly?! Who did they even think they were?! “No! Oh Beau….my…MY sweet BEAU!” She summoned him back inside of his Pokemon as she tried to stuff her emotions back down inside of her chest. She stomped her way over to Damien with a half-smile, half angry frown expression on her face. It also seemed like her emotions were caught between two entirely different worlds of emotions, and neither wanted to give way to the other. “A deal’s a deal. I’ll get Whitney for you now.” Carried used the sides of her arms to wipe away small wet stains from the corners of her eyes. She was supposed to be better than this! Better at controlling her emotions – at least, by now! “Um…hmph….Good work out there…” She muttered as she gestured to where the Pokemon had fought, then turned to retrieve Whitney. Shortly after Carrie disappeared, she returned walking alongside a slightly taller female with medium-long pink hair. The new woman focused on Carrie as they chattered away. Carrie was profusely wiping her eyes though, and the more Whitney spoke to her with large gestures of her arms, the harder it became for Carrie to control her emotions. “I…I understand..I’m working on it, Whitney, I…I promise!” She added at the butt end of their conversation, though the rest had been just out of ear shot. Whitney turned to Damien and extended her hand. The other hand pulled out a small red-and-white Pokeball. “Hello there, I hear you’re here for a battle, sir? Carrie’s told me you’ve managed to defeat her already. She’s been training with me at my GYM for some time now.” Whitney explained with a smile. With a small click of the button, the pink haired GYM leader released a small pink Pokemon with large brown-tipped ears. “I am Whitney, GYM Leader of the Goldenrod City GYM. I specialize in Normal Types. Are you ready for an official Pokemon GYM match with me?” She asked Damien and waited patiently for his reply. Should he need just a second, Whitney would patiently wait while Damien prepared for the match. It was a relief to hear Carrie return to more friendly banter and return a compliment; even if it wasn't wholly positive. If the rest of the battle was going to remain her being mad at him he wasn't sure how he was going to deal with it. It wasn't often he was on the bad side of someone, let alone an important model under the wing of a gym leader. He could apologize again, and almost did, but instead just let out a quiet uncomfortable chuckle and rubbed the back of his neck. She probably wasn't going to like what Booker was about to do to finish the snubbull off, so saving any 'sorry's for a few moments from now would probably be best.
Once the herdier was the last canine standing Damien held his tongue, watching the girl opposing him with great anticipation. Was she going to scream at him? Begin crying again? He had zero idea what to expect and so watched her like a firecracker gone off target. She made her way toward him and still he had no clue how to react. He resisted taking any steps back. He could feel the hound brush up against his leg, comforting the young lad just a little. The boy half expected to get slapped in the face with the conflicting signals Carrie was broadcasting in her approach, but once she was within arms reach she just stopped. "Uh, great," he replied in as positive a tone as he could muster through the mild fear. When she raised a hand the boy tensed, thinking that this was it, but the girl's hand went to her own face. The ranger was left bewildered. With some nice parting words she made to leave the arena and fetch the woman Damien had initially come here to challenge. He let out a deep sigh of relief.
Booker barked. The air lightening, the loyal herdier began wagging his tail and seeking his trainer's attention. "Great job boy." With a smile the young ranger knelt down and ruffed his pokémon's fur around the neck for a bit before running a hand down the canine's back to smooth it all back out. "That was just perfect. You're getting really good at those take downs. And it seems the food helps too ey?" The herdier barked happily, hopping into the boy's hand at the beginning of each stroke. "You sit back and rest now alright?" Damien withdrew Booker and picked himself back up to await Whitney.
Luckily he didn't have to wait too long, but the state Carrie returned in didn't exactly sooth his conscience. She was crying! Another wash of guilt came over him as he struggled to think of anything he could possibly do to make her feel better. Who knew Andromeda would have such an effect on someone like this. The boy made a mental note to do a lot more disciplinary sessions with the luxio, barely pulling himself back together enough to regard Whitney as she addressed him. At least she didn't seem upset.
"That's right," he confirmed after shaking the woman's hand. He followed her other hand to see the Clefairy materialize beside them. Another pink pokémon. Was she sure she didn't specialize in a color instead of a typing?
"Pleasure to meet you, I'm Damien. Hope I can at least be a challenge," he introduced with a smile, trying not to look at Carrie. With a nod he stepped back and sent out a fresh party member: his snover. The frost tree pokémon blinked into the arena then raised her bushy arms to the ceiling in a long stretch. In one of her hands was a icy gem, which she promptly tucked away upon realizing where she was.
"Nap's over Bear," the ranger's voice instructed. She trilled cheerily, shaking her body and beginning to dance a little. The air began getting quite cold. "Right..." muttered Damien. He hadn't used Bearithusa in so long he'd forgotten her habit of turning the climate into something more reminiscent of her frosty mountain home. Within moments Whitney's gym would be freezing and a cloud rolled along the ceiling heaving with moisture. Shortly after it would began hailing down on them.
It was too late to go back now, he'd just roll with his decision. "Hop to, Bear. Razor Leaf!"

Whitney beamed at Damien’s response and imitated rolling up her already short sleeves as she reached one head to pet her star-shaped winged pixie Pokemon on the head. Her fairy Pokemon twitched its brown tipped, large triangular shaped ears and tilted its head up so that it could star up at Whitney with it’s beay blue-hued eyes with a bright smile. “Cle.” It chirped, sputtering syllables softly as the Gym trainer ruffled her Pokemon’s fur lightly with her fingers. “That’s great! Ya ready, Fae?” She beamed a smile down to her Clefairy, then back to the boy. Whitney would then gesture to the GYM’s large battlefield that she assumed Damien and Carrie had been using previously, as Carrie wondered off to the side. The younger trainer dropped down onto one of the nearby spectator’s benches and crossed her arms, sulking and stifling back her tears. She would spend forever fixing up poor Beau’s roughed up fur! Whitney, however, took up her normal confident posture on the other side of the field as the star-shaped pink Pokemon hopped-skipped over onto the field. Damien summoned a large tree with long, thick club-like limns. The bottom half of the Snover’s body was a brown trunk with white hues reminiscent of snow on the upper half of its body. It’s arms held a bundle of thick green club-like leafy arms, and a short, thick green tail. “Oh, that is an interesting Pokemon! Where did you two meet?” Whitney called out, asking Damien before flashing a ‘know-it-all’ smile to her Clefairy. “Fae use Metronome! Let’s see what fate has in store, shall we?!”Bearithusa’s snow warning caused a strange, almost cloud-like formations to hover up against the roof of the gym. The temperature fell dramatically, causing Whitney and Carrie to both hug themselves and shiver violently. She definitely didn’t plan for snow and ice! It was supposed to be summer, the season for wearing all of your cute outfits! Brrr! Whitney’s teeth chattered noisily from the other side of the room as she began to rub both sides of her arms vigorously to try and create heat. Thick clumps of frozen water started falling to the gym floor from the roof as it hailed down on Bearithusa and Fae. “Faaairrryyy! Clefaaaaiirrryyy!” Fae cried out, chattering and freezing as well! It was evident that even Whitney’s Pokemon didn’t like the cold all that much. Its wings flapped rapidly and the small pink Pokemon tried to jump and dodge the hurling balls of thick ice that fell from the roof above. Bearithusa swung her arms back and forth and shot out large sharp leaves that spun around and hit Fae at odd angles, slashing and cutting the other Pokemon. “Be strong, Fae! Remember how strong we are!” Whitney called out to her Pokemon, cupping her hands around either sides of her mouth. The Clefairy nodded. She started chanting repeatedly, “Clefairy. Clefairy. Clefairy.” Fae held out her hands and she rocked them back and forth as the tips of her clawed fingers began to glow a bright pink as she chanted over and over. Soon, that strange glow enveloped the Pokemon entirely as it began to use Metronome. In the next moment, Fae jumped at Snover and kicked one of its short pink clawed feet at Snover, slamming her foot in a low kick into Bearithusa’s lower legs and knocking the other Pokemon over. The hailstorm struck, hitting Fae against the top of her head and her sides. “You’re doing good, Fae! Th-th-that ability o-of your Pokemon sure is chilly!” Whitney praised Fae and commented on Bearithusa. "Hm? Oh... hah." Damien's mouth began making noise in response to Whitney's inquiry before he had even formed proper thoughts to do so. The oncoming cold was doing well as a distraction too. "Well she was actually burgling me in the night," the ranger laughed. Bearithusa trilled happily in agreement, flashing the ice gem buried in the bush of her hands as she went about whipping up her hailstorm. "Woke up and there she was taking my items. She just loves holding things," he added as he recalled the memory. It felt like so long ago. As the first moments of battle ensued the ranger couldn't help but wonder if the delay in his trek toward the mountains had affected her at all. She'd been in the PC for quite a while, but so far Bear seemed to be just as he remembered: loud, cheery, and loving the cold.
Much like the girls in the room Damien found himself soon tucking in his bare arms to keep the cold from seeping in. Seeing Whitney, and glancing Carrie, shivering in her short shorts and short sleeves he felt just a tiny pang of guilt for letting the snover go about making the battle field more comfortable for the frost tree. Exhaling a stream of warm breath into the air he reminded himself that at least it would be temporary. The battle would help keep them all busy.
The ranger watched as the fairy type did an alien technique. He couldn't believe it when the little pink pokémon suddenly shot forward and delivered an expertly formed kick. "What the..." he mumbled under his breath, quizzically watching the energy dissipate around Fae. He was not expecting Whitney to have any fighting moves prepared. "You okay Bear?" he called out, the snover sitting herself up with an arm over her pointed head. "Snow?!" she chirped, dramatically spinning her noggin before putting her feet back under her.
"Heh, yeah," Damien responded to the gym leader's comment with a laugh, "Sorry about that." Bearithusa crossed her arms and grunted, clearly not sorry about it. "Just gotta keep the blood flowing."
Hail bounced off of the frost tree pokémon, each pellet a comfort. She hugged herself happily for a second before returning her attention to her opponent. She lifted her hand and pushed the gem into view again, half turning to her trainer in question. Damien shook his head, "Not yet, another Razor Leaf girl." She puttered, rustling the object back into her bushy arms.
