It was early, and the weather could certainly be better, but Vitra had risen with the sun, ate and fed her team in the shelter of the trees to keep the dust from bothering them too much while they ate. As they finished, she recalled them back into their pokeballs, cleaning up the camp and setting off. She was on her way to Violet City, but she knew that in passing through, she was going to have to skirt her parents' farm. She couldn't risk any of her family spotting her or she'd never be free of them again. Maybe that would be better to do at night.
With a shake of her head, vitra pushed those thoughts away. She'd worry about that when she came to it; for now, she had her own plans. She would make her way through Cherrygrove and make her way to Violet City, where she'd face Falkner at his Gym and, with any luck, win the battle against him that would earn her her very first badge. She wouldn't be the first trainer to do so, but it would still mean a lot to her in regards to her journey.

As Vitra made her way through the streets of Cherrygrove City the usually quiet town was quickly turned into a rather noisy one as two Pokemon came into view. An Ekans and a Taillow were having quite a heated Pokemon battle with neither willing to give an inch to the other. The Ekans at first had the upper hand as it went to deliver a Poison Sting but it underestimated just how quickly Taillow could move as the bird spread its wings as far apart as it could before it unleashed a Quick Attack sending the snake into the side of a building. The snake slid down the side of the building knocked out cold by the attack and Taillow was just about to fly away from the site of the battle when it saw Vitra. Not wanting to pass up the chance to grow even stronger though before it could battle it needed to heal itself which luckily one of the stores had left a bowl of Fresh Water lying about allowing it to do just that. After the bird Pokemon quenched its thirst it hopped towards Vitra spreading out its wings looking for a battle. It was not the most intimidating sight but Taillow certainly thought that it was as the trick had helped it in a number of battles before. The ongoing dust storm wasn't going to help the bird out in any way but if it could hold its own in such terrible weather then few things would give it any trouble when the weather was more favorable. As Taillow waited for Vitra to select a Pokemon the small bird could already feel the sting of the blowing sand striking it's feathers and legs which Taillow knew meant it could get into a lot of trouble if this battle became a prolonged slugfest. A Taillow (Level 9) appeared. Please select a Pokemon.

Vitra hadn't really intended to stop; she was keeping close to the walls of the buildings she passed, darting from one to the other to keep out of the worst of the dust blown about by the strong wind. The sight of the squabble between Taillow and Ekans, however, paused her in her tracks and she watched, uncertain about getting involved but unable to move on just yet. It didn't take long for the Taillow to come out best, knocking its opponent unconscious and turning, as if to leave.
it had spread its wings to take off before its eyes landed on Vitra, and a moment later it was hopping toward her, calling out and fluffing the feathers on its back and wings in a clear display. Immediately willing, Vitra tugged two pokeballs from her waist. The first one she sent out just for a moment: the yellow electric-type blinked at the Taillow, head tipping to the side as its ears flapped in the wind. "Pichu?"
"Come back, Denki!" Vitra called, watching as the small mouse scurried to her side, and tossing the second to reveal Kai. The Rattata eyed the enemy with gleaming red irises, claws digging in and eyes squinted against the wind. She waited for the Taillow to make its move, more than ready to make her own in return as soon as Vitra gave her direction.

For the first second the wild swallow reconsidered its challenge as the trainer sent forth not one but two of her pokémon to face it. But the following second made it well with overconfident pride. Of course she would need to send out two of her own to defeat it. It was the strongest bird on the block. Taillow chirped proudly once the pichu and rattata materialized before it, puffing its chest out even further. She must be a keen trainer to recognize its potential, especially so when the wild pokémon noticed the static cling of the little yellow one. An electric type? Taillow didn't balk in the presence of the pichu. Instead it adjusted the angle of its wings and hopped into the air, hovering as best it could in the flurry of sandy prickles flying through the air with it. Before it could stabilize itself Vitra recalled the young mouse to her side. The bird clucked. Everything was turning up taillow! With a predatory shriek, cut short by a harsh reminder of sand chipping at the back of its throat, the bird flew toward the rattata remaining on the designated battle field. Fighting back a cough the tiny swallow made it to the air above Kai and dipped down for one clean peck at the rodent's back. Following that the wild pokémon made a half circle before landing so that it could cover its face with a wing as it coughed its regret for opening its mouth so much in the sandstorm. Stupid storm, Vitra muttered to herself as she lifted an arm to shield her face, watching Kai and the Taillow face off. The bird-type took the first move, darting in to aim a pack at Kai, who curled her head down to protect her eyes. She peeked one open to see the Taillow flit back around to land, and she wasted no time in making her own attack. "Use Quick Attack, Kai!"The Rattata hurled herself forward, eyes closed to slits against the stinging grains of sand billowing about her. She wasn't about to let that stop her, however, continuing her charge regardless, straight toward the Taillow. Most of Cherrygrove’s residents were sheltering in place within their homes. Of the shops that chose to open during the sandstorm, many of them kept their doors closed. No one liked a dust storm, so no one wanted to be caught within its snares. The Taillow buffed up, stretching out its blue and white wings in a daring and valiant display. This trainer was a perfect match and an easy target. The young child may have had a small yellow electric mouse that normally would have caused the flitty bird trouble, but nothing was a match for the Taillow. The dust storm spiraled around with an angry howl as the winds whipped through the open streets of Cherrygrove. Many of the wooden and metallic signs swooshes and swayed in the violent breeze. Street lights danced and bobbed as though they might be yanked off and tossed to the ground within a second’s notice. The purple and cream furred rodent moved swiftly across the ground. Thought Tatakai needed to narrow her vision to try and circumvent any of the dancing debris from rubbing their way into her eyes. She was quick. The eerily quiet streets echoed with the clacking scratch-like noise of the Rattata’s sharp claws as they clicked against the pavement. The Taillow was normally the faster adversary, but the Rattata was now a blur. The Taillow fluttered about from spot to spot, hovering just above. It as anyone’s guess as the bird’s large dark eyes circled and followed the purple blur. When she hovered too close, Tatakai kicked off and launched herself up into the air. The furry purple mouse curled up on impact and came crashing like a baseball into Taillow’s right side against its ribcage. The small blue and white feathered avian with a bright red marking on its face and chest fell instantly to the ground with a quick thud. The Taillow chirped out loudly, a catcall to the Rattata and a daring accusation of how pathetic they were. The wild avian made a declaration then and there, it would win no matter what. With a couple of test flaps of its wings, the Taillow would check itself over then lift off and soar in a speedy hurry to land beside the purple rodent. It used it’s thick, short, sharp yellow beak to peck the Rattata repeatedly on its shoulders and its backside. A take this! and a take that! kind of indignation as the speed and accuracy of Tatakai’s last move. The grit and sand of the raging storm encircled the two Pokemon and would cut them, rubbing small pebbles of rough debris into their open wounds. The weather howled their emotions – a fierce battle cry from Mother Nature herself that seemed unwilling to ease up. This Taillow was tough! Vitra looked on as Kai's attack landed, the Rattata knocking her opponent out of the sky- only for the bird to regain its wings and lash out in return, a volley of pecks falling on the rat's back and shoulders. Kai took it as best she could, her fur spiking in distaste for the tri-colored bird and the storm that raged around the combatants.
"Stop picking on her!" Vitra yelled, jabbing a finger out as the other recalled Kai back into her pokeball. "You're not gonna win this one! I'm going to show you how strong we are. Shiro!" She threw the pokeball containing the scout pokemon.
"Sentret!" Shiro squeaked as he emerged, little arms raised; he staggered as a strong gust pummeled him, getting his balance back after a step or two and staring over at the Taillow.
"Quick Attack!" Vitra called, watching as Shiro dropped to all fours and charged toward the Taillow, long ears flopping around his head from the gusting wind. She wasn't going to back down now; she wanted this bird. She couldn't help but admire its tenacious nature, and a pokemon like that could only do her good if she could catch it. Especially considering her plan to take on the Violet Gym, who also had bird pokemon.

Taillow smirked confidently, it was clear to it who was going to be the winner of this battle. Tatakai was going to bite the dust, even more than what was already in the air and stung ears and eyes, and the bird was certain a single peck from its powerful beak would be all that was needed. A few flap with its wings, narrowing its eyes to spot its target through the sandstorm and then it dived at the dark silhouette. A few flashes and Taillow's target changed form a bit but such tricks would not be enough to avoid the final, the bird didn't hesitate one bit as it rushed towards... a sentret?! Taillows eyes widened in shock when it realized its target had somehow changed to a completely different pokemon, it wasn't enough to get it to stop its attack, this taillow never hesitated. Shiro was met with a peck in the head on top of the piercing sand and staggered a bit backwards from the force, and taillow flapped away to assess the situation. As the human shouted her order it all became clear to it, the human had sent another pokemon out instead and a rush of pride filled it. It was so strong they needed to send yet another one out to face it! Shiro raced towards it in a blurring speed, two could play that game and the taillow spun around and dived in even greater speed straight at the incoming attacker. The two collided and was sent flailing to the ground. Taillow slowly rolled around and got to its feet, it had fluffed out its feathers as protection against the sand and had turned its head away from it to reduce what it got in the face. It knew it was winning this, but it would have preferred a battle in a nicer weather, this was just annoying. It glanced at Shiro to see how the sentret was doing. The Taillow's double attacks left Shiro near collapse, pluckily pushing himself back to his paws after the joint Quick Attack, his fur ruffled by the storm; he hunched, glaring at the Taillow until he, too, was recalled. Vitra stared at the stubborn little bird a moment more before deciding her next move. She didn't want to use Robak- the Wurmple was strong enough in its own right, but it was weaker against bird-types and sending her out just to attempt wearing down the Taillow's health, with no guarantee it would work, felt cruel. So she settled for the last of her team capable.
"You're in trouble now!" she called, tossing the pokeball and watching as the grass-type emerged. "Midori! Tackle that Taillow!" Hands curled into fists as she watched- grass-types were weaker against flying too, but Midori had to be able to stand up to it, and she just needed one more good attack to be able to catch it- wtihout risking losing a pokeball if it was strong enough to resist.

As Vitra swapped out Shiro for Midori Taillow really started to wonder just how much longer it could hold on. The relentless sandstorm and numerous attacks had sapped most of it's health and with no way to recover from any of the damage it had to knock out Midori very quickly or this battle would certainly be lost. The young bird rushed towards Midori before the grass type could even take a single step and delivered a powerful Peck dead center on her forehead. Even doing super effective damage Taillow did not come close to knocking out its opponent. To make matters worse the snadstorm sapped even more of it's health and with it's one free turn over Taillow knew it was now or never. As Midori started to charge towards Taillow the bird rushed ahead again and delivered another Peck right into Midori's forehead right before she scored a direct hit with Tackle sending the bird skidding across the ground before it stopped mere inches from a light post. The bird was out cold and had no way to resist any attempt at capture should Vitra decide to capture the bird or let it go free. In either case Taillow had certainly learned a harsh lesson about picking a fight with a stronger opponent having clearly bitten off more than it could chew. Midori gained 2 levels. She is now level 15. Shiro gained 1 level. He is now level 10. Denki gained 1 level. He is now level 4. Tatakai gained 1 level and is now level 8. As per the new trainer rule Taillow can be captured. Midori took the two pecks with closed eyes and a grumble, and then made her own attack- the last needed before the Taillow dropped limply to the ground, sand already coating its feathers. Vitra hurried to it, picking up the tough little bird and pulled a pokeball from her bag at the same time. "He fought well, didn't he?" she mused aloud as she called her newest into his pokeball before stowing it away again. "Saur," Midori replied, rubbing the sore spot on her forhead with a broad paw, while the rest looked on. Calling them back into their pokeballs, Vitra shouldered her pack again, intending to go on to the pokemon center to wait out the rest of the storm- and to have her team looked after; her gaze drifted back toward the place the Ekans had been lying, wondering if it was still there or if it had regained consciousness during the battle and made its quiet exit. The ekans was no where in sight, it probably had taken advantage of the distraction to get out of the way as soon as possible. Who knew what had started their dispute, but there was no uncertainty of the outcome and the ekans was clever enough to not try its luck against the ones who had beaten the taillow. The Pokemon Center was packed, all the trainers who usually were out and training had had the same idea as Vitra and was waiting inside for the annoying sandstorm to pass. Some took it in stride and were chatting and enjoying their time, while others were pacing impatiently and wanted to get going as soon as possible. A red headed boy got his pokemon from the Nurse, and looked scornfully at the waiting trainers before he walked past Vitra out the door again, not sparing her a single glance. A young adult with a kid in tow were walking from trainer to trainer and asked them for help but got refused everytime. The young kid pulled the adult's sleeve. "Nada, why don't they want to help us?" she asked and Nada smiled sadly to her. "I'm afraid it's a bad time today," she answered but didn't give up yet and went to a bird trainer sitting near a window. "Excuse me, my little sister here is looking to get a pokemon, would you be able to help her catch a proper one?" Nada asked the trainer who looked at her like she had grown a second head. "I'm not taking my birds out in this weather, so no," he said dismissively and turned away, Nada sighed and lead her sister away. "Does that mean I don't get a pokemon today? I'm the only one in my class who don't hve one and you said you only had today," the kid said quietly and Nada pulled her into a hug. "I know Layla, I really hope we can find someone who can help you find a good pokemon today, but this sandstorm is a really bad timing," she said and looked around to try figure out if there were any of the trainers she hadn't asked yet, and who would be willing to brave the storm. Big Sister Nada and Little Sister Layla needs help to get the latter a proper pokemon. Will Vitra help?

It was a relief to be out of the wind, and as the doors closed behind her Vitra took a moment to brush herself off, shaking grains of sand from her hair and clothes. She moved to join the line of trainers waiting to see the nurse behind the desk, idly toying with the ends of her hair as she waited. Her eyes drifted to the two, the older sister and the younger one, as they made their way around the building. When they paused close by, she managed to hear what they said, and she watched them for a moment, briefly uncertain.
In the end she decided to help. To try to help, anyway. Stepping toward the two, she gave a wave to greet them before speaking up. "I hope you don't mind my overhearing, but you said you were looking for help catching a pokemon? I can help, if you'd want. We can go now, catch something, and be back in an hour. What do you say?" She grinned, taking a step back toward the doors- waiting to see if they'd agree but unable to comprehend why they wouldn't. She was offering her help and that was what they were looking for, right? Plus- helping the young girl catch a pokemon? No way she was turning that down.

"Really? Oh thank you so much, you have saved the day!" The big sister said and the child beamed. "I'm getting a pokemon! I'm getting a pokemon!" The kid chanted as she danced around, while her big sister did her best to get her to come along so that they didn't get left behind. "My name is Nada, and this is Layla, what can I call you?" Nada introduced them and Layla added excitedly "I have my own pokemon to catch it with!"They didn't need to go far from the pokemon center before the first wild pokemon appeared. One was a spearow who looked like it was ready to cry. It was sitting with its back to the wind on a fence and clearly didn't like this weather. A skitty was sneaking up on it along the fence and looked like an experienced hunter. "Those are cute! Can I get both?" Layla asked eagerly and Nada shook her head. "One pokemon is more than enough," Nada looked uncertain and asked Vitra, "which one do you think will be best for a child?" Spearow [lvl 6] is looking miserably. Skitty [lvl 9] is stalking the spearow. Shiny: LLziad0p1-42 1-421-42·1-42

"My name's Vitra. It's nice to meet you both," the young trainer replied as they headed back out, smiling at Layla's excitement. It reminded her of her own, when she'd first gotten Midori, and she was happy to help this girl with catching her own. It wasn't too long before they'd spotted a pair- a Spearow sitting hunched over on a fence, and the Skitty sneaking up on it. Whatever it was thinking couldn't be good for that Spearow, and Vitra had turned to point them out when Layla piped up, showing she'd seen them too.
Vitra flashed a glance at Nada, back to the two pokemon, and then at Layla. "How about you take the Spearow? I bet you could catch it, and it's a tough bird. Good for a trainer starting out, don't you think?" And she could take the Skitty. She was releasing Midori a second later, the stout grass-type setting her gaze on the pink feline still stalking toward the Spearow. "Aim for the Skitty, Midori, and give it a Leech Seed!" Vitra called, giving Layla another grin and waiting to see which pokemon she would use to battle the Spearow.
